SL510 battery not charging; battery light flickers

Q: SL510 battery not charging; battery light flickers

I have an older SL510 laptop, which has been working very well. But recently the battery power was continuing to diminish until recently, it stopped holding a charge altogether. At this stage, the orange battery indicator started to blink continuously at a rapid rate. I am still able to power up the laptop with my power cord connected. Purchased a new battery to replace the old and assumed light would go to green after charging. Unfortunately, after several hours connected to the charger, the battery light continues its constant orange blinking. Went through the process of uninstalling the ACPI file as noted in another post. Followed these steps:1. Disconnect AC2. Shut down3. Remove battery4. Connect AC5. Startup6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of Microsoft's ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Uninstall (note that it is all right if you only have one).7. Shutdown8. Disconnect AC9. Insert battery10. Connect AC11. Restart your computerAfter completed this process, battery light continues to blink rapidly and battery doesn't seem to want to charge, or provide any indication that battery is inserted in computer. This happens whether I'm using either of the 2-power adapters I have for this laptop.What can I do to get this fixed??? Thank you in advance for any assistence provided!!!

Slowly the battery started not charging, the day before it happened it was charging, but only after waiting a bit with it plugged in, or I'd have to turn it off and keep the adapter in to plug it back in. When its on, the indicator light isnt on to signify charging and it isnt charging. When the laptop is off, and I plug in the ac adapter, it goes from a blue light, to a red light, then off in the same pattern, not charging at all. I'm wondering if this is a problem with the battery, the solder, or just the motherboard itself. I tried a new power supply and took out the battery as well, when its plugged in without the battery, pressing the power button will turn it on for a second, but it wont fully turn on and the charge light will also turn off when the whole thing turns off, but immidiately go back to the solid blue when its completely off with the battery out.

First, I have checked the charging cord and done everything I can think of to see what's wrong. When you plugged it in, there is no light even coming on showing that it's connected...... I don't think it's just a battery issue. Both my laptops, came up with issues on the same day. The harddrive failed on my other one.....

Hi Shaban96,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Here is the status indicator for as per hardware manual (page30):

Try allowing the battery to fully drain expecting that it should be amber/orange when plugged in with the AC charger fast blinking. If the battery is still ok then it should progress to slow blinking amber/orange then slow blinking white.

If the same case, proceed in checking the battery pack (page 22).

Update us how it goes.

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

I am having an issue with HP Envy 15. It will work with the battery in, but no power light comes on (either white or amber). With battery removed, the laptop won't boot, and LED flashes three times white. Issue:When plugged in, battery in, Laptop will boot up, no lights on, PC works. Battery doesn't charge, but doesn't discharge eitherWhen plugged in, no battery, Laptop does not boot, and LED power indicator flash three times whiteWhen unplugged, battery in, Laptop runs, but battery discharges. I've searched the net and this forum extensively. Most "three flashes" occur when laptop won't boot. I don't have that issue when the battery is in. Only with the battery removed. I've tried the CMOS battery drain trick, no changes. I've tried a new battery, no changeI've check the power plug 'pin', it is straight. Anyone have an idea what might be going on?  I am good with this laptop until something happens that both batteries end up dead, then I am stuck with a laptop that is basically a high-priced door stop.Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a y50-70 that has been working pretty smoothly for the last two years. I am studying abroad in Italy and was told that my charger should have a built in power adapter, however when plugging into the outlet via an outlet adapter it immediately made a popping sound and started smoking. The charger was a replacement which had been working fine for about a year in the states, but I just assumed that this one didn't have the built in adapter and I drew too much power and fried it. I ordered a new charger specified for my model from amazon Italy (with European plugs) in hopes that it would work....but no luck, and he charger is making a consistent soft hissing sound when plugged in. I am also getting a blinking orange battery light when plugged into the charger, but this is the only form of response I'm getting from my computer.  After reading around my best bet is that I've blown a fuse or fried the battery but I wanted to see if anyone had a more confident diagnosis before I go shooting in the dark. Any thoughts?  Thanks,sam

Ok this might be easy..it might not (COMPAQ M2105)

I ended up replacing my motherboard for a model with more features (SD readers blah blah).

I took it all apart and put it all back with the new board in...now when i go into windows (and even before while booting)...the orange lights would come on for a second...then beging to flicker

while in windows...it just will either not charge the battery..or flicker from AC to battery

i CAN power the unit on with the battery alone, and i CAN power the unit with the cord alone...

lastly, my old motherboard (which had a HD connector problem)...still WILL charge the battery...so i'm sure its not the battery...i don't think...

i also dont' think its the AC adapter since it is the same piece I used on both motherboards.....

what to do................

A:compaq M2105 laptop - battery will not charge, flickers from AC/battery

Hopefully you are experienced in working on and repairing laptops/notebooks... and you carefully handeled the replacement motherboard and didn't damage it. Repairing laptops takes considerable skill and caution.

It does sound like the "new" motherboard is bad unfortunately. How did you handle the "old" operating system restore to the "new" motherboard?

I have a Mini-Notebook, NB500-108, running Windows 7, and it never had battery issues until now.
For some reason, battery stopped charging at 99%, then at 98% and now at 97%.
Tray icon says "plugged in, charging" but it never reaches 100%.

Besides that, the led light never changes from orange to green, like it used to do before.
That is annoying because I can't see if battery is totally charged when the machine is turned off.

I've already tried a lot of suggestions in order to recalibrate battery:
1. Flashing BIOS;
2. Uninstall/disable Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method in Device Manager;
3. Full discharge/full charge;
4. Half discharge/full charge;
5. Removed the battery and pressed power button for 10, 20, 30 seconds...;
6. System restore;
7. Same beahaviour with a Linux live pen.

None of this worked. Any comments on this, Toshiba Support?
Thank you in advance.

hello, all... it is in yet another time of need that i turn to you ...my notebook (dell inspiron 1525, about 1 year old) started showing signs that its battery might be warn out - when it was not plugged in with its adapter, within a few minutes it would without warning go into sleep mode and upon trying to turn on, warn me that the battery was at a critical low...

now, today it had been on for a while in a summer-hot room and it was only when i tried to put it to sleep to ~reduce~ the burden on it, the battery light started flashing orange (the warning that your battery is in trouble, 4 times quick, 1 blue flash) and nothing - not turning it off, letting it cool, would make it stop
...it does come back on but i don't foolishly think it's going to last! the battery meter also says, instead of 100%, now 99% and will not go up... (my father's notebook battery meter is always stuck on ***74%*** even if allowed to charge, and it's been this way since turning it on for the first time... so i'm not sure what is causing that...)
the only time the orange light did go out was when i UNplugged the adapter but as soon as i plug it back in, that happens again ...and if i leave it unplugged for too long, the system will go to that critical low situation again and this time it won't be able to re-charge either. based on your experience and expertise, do you think the problem is most likely the battery (and/or the adapter cable? or the a/c connector port?) ne... The battery light on my Latitude 7370 started to flash in orange and the laptop is not using the battery. It does not start when the AC is not plugged, and shuts down immediately after the AC is unplugged. However, the Dell online diagnostic test for battery passes it as working OK (the test for motherboards also passes). In BIOS, I can see the battery as 100% charged; however it also says "Health: Communication Error". A week ago the battery still had enough charge for up to 5 hours of office work. I have tried to unplug the battery, start the laptop without it, and then plug the battery back. I have also tried unplugging and plugging back the CMOS battery. Neither of these helped at all. I have been using the laptop with WD15. The behavior persists on 2 different WD15 units as well as on the default AC charger.

Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

Hello.  I would be grateful if someone can help me with solving the following battery issue.
My XPS13 9343 (with Windows 10, 2015 model) recently stopped charging when connected.  I have conducted BIOS test, stress test, system test, battery test recommended on Dell forum, but could not find any issues.
Then ran device manager and checked & updated drivers, tested for virus, scanned the system, but could not detect any issues.
Lights on AC adopter is on (static) , and the front light under the touch pad turn on white briefly when connected then turn off immediately when plugged in (when disconnected, orange light comes on).
It seems charging is disabled...I might have touched keys without realizing (I checked whether there were hot key to enable/disable charging, but could not find one).
Since it is an ultrabook, and the battery has no issues, I have not opened the back to take out the battery.
I brew into the connecting hole, but it did not solve the issue.
Please help!

A:Battery Meter shows CMOS battery not charging

The battery you have replaced is solely there to maintain the clock and other BIOS settings (if you have changed them from their defaults). It will not prevent you from booting your system if it is dead/missing; all it means is that you will have to enter the BIOS each time and make the correct settings and time. This battery is not rechargeable.

Do you still have to enter the correct time, or is the BIOS maintaining this now you've changed the battery?

For a few months now, at some point my battery would indicate nn% (plugged in, not charging) and would maintain that charge as long as it was plugged in. Running on the battery, the charge would eventually diminish and in order to get the battery to charge again, I have gone through to process of uninstalling the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager. Usually within 24 hours, things would revert back to plugged in, not charging. However, that is no longer remedying the problem. (When this was an issue the indicator light next to where the AC Adaptor plugs in would flash blue. Also, I upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10 a few weeks ago, but this issue has been occurring for a few months now). Now the battery reads 2% (plugged in, not charging) and when I use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery, I get the message ?HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery?. I have performed a hard reset, reset the BIOS, and updated the BIOS, all to no avail. If I unplug the adaptor, the computer shuts off. Any suggestions for additional fixes? I have seen one additional suggestion to do a system recovery but I have not yet made a recovery disk for win 10 (I do have one for the win 8.1), and would it make any difference anyway since the plugged in, not charging problem was occurring under win 8.1?

Hi, I have read many people have similar issues for other models other than my Thinkpad x240 20AL but removing the battery won't solve my problem. It is plugged in, it says plugged in but battery is not charging (none of the two batteries this laptop has). I have gone to Driver Manager and uninstalled the 3 Microsoft drivers under battery section. After restarting or scanning for new hardware these drivers appear again and the problem is not solved. I have restarted de computer. Problem not solved I have removed the batter and put it back. Problem not solved. After one night, I switched on the laptop and one of the battery has charged. Right now it says plugged in, charging and it shows already 100% although it keeps charging. The other battery still shows 98% not charging.. I believe this must be a software issue, some power management that prevents the laptop from charging the battery. But where is that software and how to configure it or remove it? I have looked for Lenovo Power Management and similar and it is not installed on my laptop. Anybody knows what I am talking about?

A:x240 - battery - plugged battery not charging

I have a very similar problem, how was yours fixed in the end?Someone please help, very frustrating!

I know that a battery not holding a charge can sometimes be a motherboard problem, I don't want to spend the extra $50 on a new battery if it is the motherboard. Is there any way to decipher which one is the culprit.

A:Motherboard not charging battery or battery dead

Batteries are consumables... They should always be changed first if a charging problem appears

I was notified of the battery recall and removed the battery to get its serial number.  After putting the battery back in it will no longer charge.  The light next to the power cord plug in also is no longer lit even with the power cord in.  I ensured the powere cord was properly pluged in.  Everything was fine pior to removing it and putting it back in.  Very strange.  Is there something that has to be done once a battery is taken out and put back it?

Hi! i have an Hp eliteBook 8560p and when the battery is plug it shows me this thing Battery #1:1% available(plugged in,not charging) Battery #2:Not present what are my to do to resolve this?please help

A:Battery #1:1% available(plugged in,not charging) Battery #2:...

How old is the battery? You do not have a Battery #2 more than likely. That would be the optional modular battery not the regular main battery.

I have a Dell inspiron 15 M5010 and i recently bought a new battery. It's not a Dell battery but a Ninja Battery. As i started charging it i noticed it doesn't charge. I thought it was a defective battery so the company sent me a new one. It didn't make a difference.
Is it my AC Adapter? or because i need a Dell battery? I tried everything except update the BIOS because it needs at least 10% battery to run. Sadly i have 5%. Please help.

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop had a very good battery life(>6 hours), but today morning it showed an error message saying  "Battery has experienced permanent failure and needs to be replaced." I updated the BIOS from A3 to A10, but it didn't help! The PC starts only if its plugged in and the battery charge is constant at 82%. What should I do?

A:Battery not charging, message says "Battery has experienced permanent failure"

Hello SHUBHAMSINGH.ARARIA,
It's quite possible your battery did suffer a failure; the Lithium-Ion chemical reaction may (which produces electricity) have finally broken down.
First thing to try is to run Dell's diagnostics. When you first power it on, press F2 to run the ePSA Diagnostics & see if any failures occurred.
Have you tried powering the laptop on with the power cord and battery, then once it's loaded removing the power cord to see if it stays on?
Another thing to try: remove the power cord & battery from the laptop, then hold the power button down for about 10 seconds. Then reconnect the power cord, power it on, then reconnect the battery.
From here, once it's on, you can try removing the battery again to see if it stays powered on or leave the cord connected to see if the battery begins charging.

Hope this helps!

I bought lenovo y500 two days ago in INDIA.  In the lenovo energy management system 8.0, I found a battery calibration option and decided to do it.  The steps mentioned there were as follows. 1. Full charge2. Full discharge  The process performed full charging followed by complete discharge of the battery which caused the laptop to shut down.   When I tried turning on my laptop, it could not start.  The battery charging indicator LED wasnt switched on even though the power cord was inserted into the laptop.  I could start the laptop only after removing the battery.   Once the laptop was on, I inserted the battery back in and it began to charge.  After about 50% of charging, I removed the power cord and inserted it again.  Now the battery couldnt resume charging.  I again had to shut down the laptop and repeat the above steps of inserting battery after switching on the laptop without battery.  Only then the battery would resume charging. After this, I decided to allow the battery to charge to 100%. But, the charging remained stuck at 99% and could not fully charge the battery.  When I removed and reinserted the power cord, the same problem persisted of battery not resuming charging. Please help me with this problem.  I read on few forums about uninstalling microsoft ACPI which supposedly solves this issue.  However, ACPI returns back after I restart my laptop.I also tried switch... A:LENOVO Y500 BATTERY NOT CHARGING AFTER USING LENOVO'S BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION

ADMIN Edit - While the original post below is marked as the solution, because service will be required if the battery will no longer charge after performing a battery reset, I am adding a Lenovo update here to confirm.   Normal operation will allow the battery to relearn its capacity characteristics when using the battery reset function.  Typically this is not needed in normal use..   Batteries are equipped with a safety feature that will permanently disconnect them (like a fuse) if cell imbalance or an internal short is detected.   This tends to be statistically infrequent, but also normal, and would require a battery replacement.  (Batteries have a 1 year warranty).   This battery feature can also  produce similar results to what is being discussed in the thread, so it should first be considered by service.   This particular  forum discussion also involves a situation that could affect a limited number of systems, and could lead service to replace the system board during warranty.

If your system experiences these symptoms, please contact service during the warranty period.
