Media Player 12 streaming, not all files show on my dlna device.

Q: Media Player 12 streaming, not all files show on my dlna device.

This is driving me nuts. On my office's windows 7 box, I turned on video streaming from windows media player 12, and my files (mkv, mpg, etc.) show up and can play fine on my sony dlna certified dvd player.
So... I then tried to install and do the same from my windows 2008 server that I have in my basement. After hours of searching, I discovered that it cannot be done from windows 2008 server. (a topic for other discussions, it simply can't be done)
So, no problem, I removed windows server 2008 from my basement computer, and installed windows 7 ultimate. I installed the exact same codecs that are on my office's windows 7 box. I turned on streaming from windows media player 12. Now,
some files show up, but all of my mkv's do not. Even the ones that that I tested with from my office's windows 7 computer. No, they are not on file shares, I know wmp 12 can't do that, so I made sure the files were local.
So, same operating system (windows 7), same codecs installed, same media files, media plays fine locally, file permissions are good, just the files do not show up on my dlna device from my basement computer! What step am I missing?

Preferred Solution: Media Player 12 streaming, not all files show on my dlna device.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

as weird as this sounds, try renaming a mkv file to extension wmv. Depending on
codecs installed, this may work. alot depends on the file formats supported by
both devices and what the receiving device is able to transcode. Windows does
not natively support mkv files. See the file formats at

Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of organising a playlist of music videos for my works Christmas Party. This year I want to do something really special in the form of streaming the music videos from one (host) computer to several (guest) computers using VLC Media Player.

Here is a link to the method that I am using to Stream music videos -

https://www.evernote.com/shard/s278...999ab741c93f/5e344d246d17fcd8415e999e4cb175b1

I have decided on the HTTP method of streaming because this appears to be relatively simple to setup, and effective for reaching multiple clients.

However immediately I have noticed a number of caveats -

1). Media doesn't always play at the same time on all clients. I would like all music videos to play in sync (ignoring potential network 'lag' issues)

2). VLC gets stuck with the Playlist of music videos that I have created; it plays the first music video on each of the clients, but once the first music video comes to an end VLC stops playing altogether.

* In some instances it just stops, and provides no on screen messages
** In other instances it pops up a box which I have come to believe is related to missing codecs (even though the 'server' and all 'clients' have exactly the same codec packs installed).

I am looking for some tips on the optimum way to stream music videos (in a variety of formats, e.g.: avi, flv, mpg, mpeg). Ideally I need to setup several hours of music videos and just hit the 'play button&... Read more

Apologies if this has been asked before, I did a search and didn't see it.

I have my Win7 networking configured to "stream my pictures, music and videos to all devices on my home network". With this setup I'm able to stream media from my computer to my Sony BluRay disc player which works as a DLNA client on my home network. My understanding is that Windows Media Player acts as the DLNA server, transcoding video file formats as necessary to stream them to the networked device.

Additionally, I have installed FLVSplitter.ax from SourceForge into my SysWOW64 folder and registered it to my Win7 registry, enabling playback of .flv files in Windows Media Player. I can confirm that WMP plays .flv files on my local machine fine now. However it doesn't seem to be transcoding those files so they can be streamed to my networked BD player. In fact my BD player doesn't even see the flv files at all, even though they're in my network share location along with all the other video filetypes it does see.

I don't need to stream /flv files to my network all that often (yet) so I'd rather not have to install a whole new DLNA server application to do it if that can be avoided. Is there any way to stream flv files to my network using Win7 and/or WMP's native sharing capabilities?

As an aside, I'd be interested in knowing why MS has decided not to support FLV files in Windows Media Player without jumping through all the hoops. It seems like quite an inconvenience considering how po... Read more

I'd love to stream flv files to my LGTV like I do to another TV through a WDTV box on my (wired) network.
I find windows media player too clunky to use even for the files it does support so short of buying another WD box is there any way to make my video files visible to the TV over my network? The LG will play them off a USB stick but can't see them over the network.
I think I made a mistake buying LG but the horrible WM Player isn't helping any. WD has its problems too as it can't handle the more compressed FLV formats.

There doesn't seem to be any way to stream AAC files in WMP...

I've tried using the Orban plug-in, but it breaks MP4 video playback (I only get sound on MP4 videos after installing it). Although Winamp will work, I hate using it because it eventually commandeers all A/V file extensions. It also likes to phone home (I get firewall outbound alerts).

Is there another way?

A:Can't play streaming AAC files in Windows Media Player

Any number of media players can be used by any user.

Generally...installing any player mimics the behavior of WMP when it comes to designating itself as the primary program to be used for opening all media files...but such only happens if the user allows it to do so with tacit approval.

In any case...programs which open a given file can be changed anytime by a user on an individual file type basis...by going to Explorer view of My Computer, then clicking Tools/Folder Options/File Types...and then scrolling the list to chqnge whatever program user desires to open a given file type.

I use WMP to open .mpgs, Real Player to open .flvs, Musicmatch to open .mp3s...and I have a few other players installed. Regardless of which player opens a file, they can play in just about any of the players I have installed.

You may want to try MediaMonkey and VLC.

So for some background I basically stream music, pictures and video content from my computer to an Xbox 360 in the lounge room for my family to enjoy. This has worked for quite a long time with Windows 7.

I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview today and got settled in with it and indexed my libraries with Windows Media player so this could resume. But to my dismay this doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.

I have each folder and hard drive shared on windows for network use, I have a little experience from LANs in this area. I have enabled all streaming options in WMP that I know of and the entirety of my library has been fully indexed. This is WMP 12 and everything I possibly know of is up to date.

I haven't got the Homegroup feature active as I never had to use this before.

The only other thing I have noticed that has changed is this. A little green icon that in windows 7 would appear on top of the xboxs, I'm assuming this means something.

On the Xbox end it used to display the Libraries such as 'Recorded TV', 'Music', 'TV Shows', 'Movies' and other things but now when I try to access video content it gives me a folder called 'Videos' which contains nothing.

Does anybody know of any solutions?

I recently purchased a DELL Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop computer.
Windows Media Player for Windows 10 will only play the audio portion of .MPG files. The video portion of the .MPG file will not play. (.MP4 files are working fine)
If I transfer the .MPG file to my (now) old DELL laptop which is running Windows 7, the .MPG files plays both audio and video...as one would expect.
This suggests to me the issue has something to do with the video card in my new DELL Inspiron 15 7000 laptop computer.
How can/do I go about resolving this issue so that I can play .MPG videos on my new DELL laptop?

A:How to set up media streaming on Windows Media Player via network

Hi Karsten,

I have my own radio station- currently down now, because of a problem I'm having with my two hard drives. I use Winamp to stream the music. This, I've found, is the easiest method out there, and is compatible with just about all other media players (i.e., Windows Media, iTunes, Musicmatch, and of course, Winamp can all tune in).

To use this setup, you will need Winamp player, SHOUTcast DNAS server, and the shoutcast winamp plugin. These are all free.

In order to serve from within a network, you'll have to set up port forwarding for port 8000 (or whatever port you choose to serve on).

This is everything you need to get started. If after downloading all of these, you find yourself unsure of what to do, post again and I'll walk you through it- I just don't have the time to write out a guide unless it's needed.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and this is for streaming audio. Video is much more complicated and time-consuming.

I am having difficulty finding a streaming device that supports the features I need and also has an output other than HDMI. I'm looking for something like Chromecast, where I can stream from a modern Android device, but the older TV does not have HDMI; it has component, RCA, and s-vid. I would like to avoid adapters if at all possible, and it's an usually large TV for its age, and I would rather not replace it if I can help it. So to summarize:

* Device must work with modern versions of Android against common devices like Galaxy 4 and up and Galaxy Tab 3 with updated operating systems
* Device must have an output other than HDMI

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my research indicates:

Roku is out (3+ has screen mirroring but only HDMI, 1 and 2 have component but no mirroring)
Chromecast is out (only HDMI)
AppleTV is out (except maybe version one? I'm not sure if the first gen can interface with Android using Apps or not)
FireTV is out (only HDMI)

Any others? Or am I wrong about any of these? Thanks for you help!

i took the defaults away from that kmplayer and gave them all back to windows media player but i just cant get the movies to stream, i dont want to clutter up my hard drive by saving everything we watch.

i imagine this is something very simple i just dont know what button to press. im using ie 8, vista home basic and i have no idea what version of media player or how to find out.

Hello.

I have had WMP11 on my PC for quite some time. My Xbox 360 needed repairs, and I was sent a refurbished console. When it came back, I needed to allow it to see my computers' music folders. I headed to WMP11 to do this.

However, every time I tried to go to Tools > Options > Library > Configure Sharing, it would lockup. I would have to manually close WMP11 each and every time. Frustrated, I tried to uninstall WMP11. It rolled back to WMP9, which was the original one on my computer. Now, everytime I try to go back up to WMP11, it fails during installation (around installing MSDelta?). However, it does install WMP11 again, because it's back on my PC.

Now, when I go to Tools > Options > Media Sharing, I get: "Media sharing has been turned off because a required Windows setting or component has changed. For additional assistance, click Web Help." I have checked the Web Help, and tried their tips, but it doesn't help me.

Does anybody have any clue as to what I should do? I also grabbed my WMP log file...pasted below.

Hello,

I don't know if this is the right sub forum, but here goes.

A while ago, I had an issue with WMP where it wouldn't load streams from msn music uk. I just cancelled my sub, thinking it was something there end.

One day, I needed to format, after reloading, i decided to see if my beloved music streaming service worked again. Voila! It did. So I assumed something dodgy may have been installed.

The other day, it randomly stopped working again. With the error message : There was a problem playing this stream. Please try another track.

I would sometimes get the good old network error message aswell, depending on which options i tried ticking/unticking in the network options.

Now I've tried pretty much every network setting. Basically the issue is, it just freezes for 10-15 seconds, then 'connecting to media' then times out.

I even tried formatting to solve this issue. Twice. And it's still there. Restarted my router.. no joy.

Any of you tech guys have any idea how to fix this?

I would like to enable the firewall and have DLNA streaming but don't know how to configure it. Could someone please assist?

Thank you

I have been having problems with Media Center, not downloading the guide.  I have been trying to follow all of Microsoft's recommendations for a fix.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  The advice told me to go into Services and find two files on the list and make sure they were both started:

Windows Media Center Receiver Service (was started), and
Windows Media Center Scheduler Service (wasn't started, I started it).
Then it told be to go to Show Processes from all Users.  And find six files on the list.  The instructions assumed the files would be there.  Only one of the files is.
How do I get the missing five files on the list?:
ehmsas.exe (missing)
ehrecvr.exe (on the list)
ehsched.exe (missing)
ehschell.exe (missing)
ehtray.exe (missing)
mcGlidHost.exe (missing)

Microsoft's directions assumed that these files would all be there.  It did not say what to do if any were missing.

Please HELP!!!

For perhaps a decade now I have watched video and listened to music from my computer's media collection (now grown to over 6 terabytes) using a wired ethernet connection over to my stereo/TV thru a media streaming device (currently an LG bluray player). First I was using WinXP and later Win7. I just set up the disk containing the media files as shareable using traditional windows networking (with permissions to "Everyone") and it talked to the streaming device right away. Many months back I upgraded to Win10, and after using it for a week (including networking) without problems I deleted the .old folder containing my old Win7 operating system (being the overconfident idiot that I am). It turns out that the one connection I forgot to check out was the one to the living room (bluray). It no longer works. The sharing was so seamless I had always assumed the bluray player was behaving just like any of my other networked windows computer. However it turns out it uses a different protocol, Samba, or CIFS (I'm not sure which) - although there is a way to enter a CIFS password on the bluray player (which I never needed with winXP or win7). It appears that Samba is not compatible with win10, at least out of the box. This is an important feature to me and I would have reverted to win7, but unfortunately I can no longer do that.

I've seen at least a dozen threads describing some success with samba and win10 (various registry hacks and other obscure windows and dos commands) b... Read more

Every time i go on to amazon and attempt to listen to streaming media files of songs real one player opens up and always gives this error message :
"A proxy has exceeded its maximum number of connections. Please try again later."
I tried again but it does it every time i followed directions to the help site and it did no good. I have norton firewall installed and i switched that off and it still does it. It used to work before on this computer and i have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times.
Any help would be appreciated.

A:Realone Player error on streaming media alone

That message is nothing to do with your computer. A sever has reached the limit of how many people can be connected to it at one time. Nothing you can do about it and nothing wrong with your machine

Media player 11 will not play streaming video

I recently purchased a new Emachine with Vista Home Basic
pre-installed.
The problem is that Media Player refuses to play some streaming
video. It simply pops open a new window with the message "page cannot be
displayed", or keeps on searching forever.

Yet files with .WVX, .WMV and .asf always seem to work

It is the .asx files that rarely works (or sometimes open an error in the player). With Windows XP, Media Player would open and play the file. Now, with Vista, it will not.
And some .htm links cannot be displayed now when the same links opened the Media Player on XP.

any ideas?

A:Media player will not play streaming video

Hello again

"Yet files with .WVX, .WMV and .asf always seem to work" is only true with some pages. On other they don't work at all and only display the "page cannot be displayed".

And the .htm links are links to WMA and other files that won't stream in the media Player on some pages.

Is this a proxy-related matter? I've been tampering with proxy-settings without results.

I am having a problem with streams on wmp10.

Here is what happens with streaming with WMP10:

I click on the stream, and it'll say Connecting to Stream, then Attempting to Reconnect, then Playing, but instead of playing, it goes dead and just says 'ready'. If you hit Play again same loop happens.

Anyone know if there is a solution to this?

Thanks.

I am trying to listen to a streaming radio station, www.plainsradio.com and they have streaming audio on their chat page. Windows Media Player shows up on the page, but it looks like classic WMP and when I click error details, it shows up "ran out of memory". I even copied the sites player code that I was given, to put it on my site to stream, but the same error shows up in error details...it works fine in Firefox though...I have Googled for an answer until my head hurts and no luck. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? below is a screenshot of the code I was sent

Windows Media Player 9 is not available for Windows XP, I'm wondering how it even installed without error.

Is WMP9 listed in Add/Remove Programs?

I have Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10

When I stream video off of places like break.com, it works, no problem. However, I bought a subscription to MiLB.tv to watch a baseball game, and it didn't work. When I went on the computer that directly accesses the internet (and routes the internet wirelessly) I could watch the game no problem. I assume this has something to do with port forwarding, but I have no idea which ports to open.

I have a Netgear WGT624 router.

Hello. Novice laptop user here. I'm trying to listen to music samples at the NPR.org website. When I click on the listen button, the preference window pops up, and I click on Windows Media Player because that's already loaded. When I click on it, the pop up closes and I'm back where I started without any activation of my media player that I can perceive. The NPR site help page says something about going to my pop-up blocker to allow NPR to activate the player. Yes? No? If your advice is yes, please tell me how to do that. I don't know how to find my pop-up blocker. I have not a clue. Merci beaucoup. J.

A:NPR streaming/can't access with Windows Media Player

What webrowser are you using? And yes, its okay to allow popups for sites that you know are harmless---NPR is one of them.
