Windows Media Player /error messages

Q: Windows Media Player /error messages

Bought a new Compaq with Vista Home Basic installed. Cable modem. AOL browser.
Audio: After working well for weeks, suddenly I cannot stream radio stations past the word READY.
Video: I get this message:
Windows MediaPlayer cannot play files because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed an Url in the Open Url dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example,"http")

Of course I had typed nothing; just clicked Stream on the webpage, which always worked before. I do not understand a word of that message.
Any suggestions would be very welcome.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong area, I am quite new to this. Every time I start up my system, after the main windows screen, I am getting this same error message:

ArcCon.ac - Application error
"The application failed to initilize properley(0xc0000005).click on ok to terminate the application"

also if I try to use windows media player I come to the inital stage of installing windows media player 10, when I click on finish I get another error explaining that WMP is not installed properly, asking if I want to install from the Microsoft web site.

I choose yes, folow the steps and get the same error message except the box heading is :

WMPAU.exe - Application error
With the same text as in quotes above.

I am really not knowledgeable about computers and I have tried a few things that forum pages have offered and none have been a fix.

Please offer me something that might actually work at fixiing this.....

Hi,

We are having a problem on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine running Windows media player 10. It says "this version of media player is incompatible" when you try and open it. We have tried removing version 10, and putting on 9 but you get the same problem. This happens if you download the install file from the website or install WMP from the WindowsUpdate site. Has anyone come across this before, or got any ideas on how to get WMP to work?

Thanks a lot,

I did a repair of windows XP and ever since then, Media Player won't play an MKV movie file. It also won't play an M-peg 4. Error message says about a wrong codec or something. I d/l'd K-lite codec pack and had the Community Codec pack which I was told to uninstall since K-lite codec pack doesn't need it. I am so confused because it all worked fine until I reinstalled windows. I was told all my files would remain intact but a lot of things quit working. What's a girl to do? Help if you can and thanks!

Allright this is the error I get whenever I try to open up Windows Media Player

The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 8.0.0.4477 where 10.0.0.3802 was expected.
Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.
Do you want to install the player from the Microsoft website?

I've looked all over the web to find a solution but I can't find anything with my specific problem, and I don't know what to do. The only thing I can do as an alternative is type mplayer2.exe in Run Dialog Box. It opens up Windows Media Player 6.4.09.1120 and allows me to use it with no problems. It works but is an inconvenience, and I just want to solve the problem with the other so if anyone can give any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

My Windows Media Player recently stopped working. When trying to play video or audio I would receive the error message "%1 is not a valid Win32 application." Please check this against your installation diskette." This error was displayed 16 times and each time I would click "OK". Eventually the installation was completed but when trying to play a video or listen to music in Windows Media Player 10 I again received an error message that read "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have a problem with playback of some videos using Windows Media Player 11...

The video (.avi) is compressed using the DivX Codec...I already have the latest version of DivX 6.80 installed in my computer...Whenever I try to play it on WMP 11, there will be an error message saying "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file"...I went to Web Help but it either says that I have a sound problem or that I do not have the correct codec installed. My sound works perfectly, and whenever I play the video, the sound is still able to play in the background, but no video appears. (the error message will appear of course)

I tried using GSpot to double check, but the codec (used to compress the video) is DivX too.

I realised something though...The codec of videos I couldn't play on Windows Media Player 11 was the DIV3 codec (Name: DivX 3 Low-Motion). Other videos compressed using Xvid and DivX worked perfectly on WMP 11.

I tried uninstalling the DivX bundle and reinstalling DivX 6.8 again, but it didn't work. Also, the DIV3 videos are still playable on players like VLC Player, so I doubt it's a codec problem.

Could it be that my WMP 11 is malfunctioning? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it too, but it didn't work as well.

And I hope that I've stated adequate information about the problem...So can anyone help me out?

Thanks a million! (;

Hi,
I keep getting an error message when I use Windows Media Player which says...

"The request could not be understood by the server"

Now then, here are some pertinent facts.
1. It doesn't happen with all streaming video, just seems to happen on this specific website http://www.oabs.org
2. My machine (WindowsME)receives this error message, but my secretary's (Windows98) which is networked with mine receives the streaming video just fine.
3. In the past, I could receive the video from this site, now I cannot.
4. I've talked with Microsoft techs twice and they couldn't help me.

Could someone out there give me any help?
Could you check and see if you have trouble with the site as well?

Go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall Windows Media Player. this will roll WiMP back to the previous version. (ex) if you have WiMP 11 it will roll back to 10. Restart and try it again. If this fails, then uninstall with Revo Uninstaller. Be sure to do the Advanced Method and remove related files in the Registry. Restart the computer. Now you can download the latest version of WiMP for XP.

I have a very peculiar problem. I am using Windows XP Pro with SP2 and Windows Media Player 9. I am able to watch DVD Movies from the DVD ROM, but the if the same file (.vob) is saved on the hard Disk, it does not play... Which Codecs do I need to download to play vob files saved on the hard disk through Windows Media Player??? Please Help.

A:Windows Media Player Error

are you trying to copy the movie on the hard disk for backup?

if you are trying to copy a dvd movie, that is illegal and this website cannot help with that.

play the .mpg files, not .vob

My cousin has been having problems installing Windows Media Player for the past 5 months or so, but he's just ignored it. Now he is fed up and came to me for help, but I could do nothing.
Anytime he tries to install Windows Media Player onto his computer he gets an error that reads: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150004)". He's running a legitimate version of Windows XP Home edition. He has completely removed Windows but the folders keep coming back (not the program...just the Media Player folder). Anyone out there that can help?

Have a Dell 4600/ XP 5.1 /SP-2 /Windows Media Player 10When I try to open Windows Media Player, the following error message appears:?An internal application error has occurred.?It has something to do with: ?Reregister Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll,? According to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831430#appliesto , - but these instructions are too vague.Anyway, I usually try to avoid editing the registry manually - I would prefer to have a safe application do it.

A:Windows Media Player Error

You can tryStart>Run>cmd>sfc /scannowThis will require you XP CD. It may detect the files mising and replace them.

I go on BMG music.com and listen to songs, all of a sudden, when I hit one to listen to, I get this error:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").

Not sure why this is happening, any ideas?
