W7 reinstalling headset on each reboot

Q: W7 reinstalling headset on each reboot

Hi all, using:
W7x64
Logitech G930
Asus G73JW-A1

Every time I reboot the computer with the headset transmitter plugged in Windows installs a new copy of the Logitech G930 Wireless Headset. Sometimes I have 20 copies of the headset in Control Panel / Devices, with each device decremented numerically. Also, this seems to mean that Windows resets the default sound device to the internal speakers, as the previously selected headset device has changed. I then have to reselect the headset as default otherwise Windows does not use the headset even though it's turned on.

Can someone please advise how to stop the OS reinstalling, apart from rebooting without the dongle plugged in?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi winaje,

Can you check you Device Manager for the headset
Right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'. In the Computer Management window, select 'Device Manager' on the left and look for the headset in question. Right click on it and select properties. Under the Driver tab, check to see who the Digital Signer is. It could be that it's an unsigned driver.

Also, you could try to remove the headset and reboot. When the system has rebooted, go in to Device Manager and uninstall the driver for the headset then reboot again. Then when rebooted, plug the headset in and re-install the driver. Reboot and see if that helps.

Hi Chris,
if it works on 75 percent of the clients I would do the following thing. Your clients are probably in a domain environment. I would copy the security descriptor (SID) from a properly working client with subinacl.exe (A command line tool which you can download
from MS download) and push it to a not working client and test if it solves the problem.
I thing this is the easiest method.
Subinacl is a the most powerfull tool ever !

Got an old computer the other day that the owner requested the hard drive reformatted before giving it to me. I did reformat the drive using the OEM Operating System cd. Says that the os was installed successfully and begins reboot but only pulls up the Gateway logo and loops over and over. Tried to boot into safe mode and last good configuration with no success. Will not boot from the OS disk and have no way to create the floppy disks for startup.

Does have two hard drives and for some reason loaded the os on both drives separately, one with NTFS and the other FAT32. Tried going to repair and formatted each again and installed the os only on the C drive. Didn't work either. Was running slow before this process started.

Any ideas on what to do? This has been the computer from hell as I have never had this problem before. Oh, the disc is in good condition with very light and minimal scratches. Does not give any error messages.

Thanks.

Sounds like the CD is damaged, no matter what the light scratches....Try cleaning it with a glass cleaner and paper towel carefully and then see if it will work..

Hello

So three days ago I wiped all of my drives and installed Windows 10. I have a Corsair Vengenace 2100 headset. I installed the realtek drivers from ASUS download section for my motherboard and then I installed the headset drivers.

The problem is that my headset does not record anything through the microphone if I set it to be the default device for audio output. If I have my other computer speakers as the default output device my microphone works just fine.

This goes for all the USBs in the back of the motherboard. The headset works just great if I plug in the wireless reciever in the front of the computer.

I have tried to reinstall the drivers multiple times and checked a bunch of different settings in the sound manager in windows but nothing seems to work.

Have also googled all kinds of things but nothing seems to relate to my problem.

I do not have any external sound card plugged into my computer.

Thanks for any help provided!

EDIT: Can be closed as I found the win 10 forum after I made the thread. Sorry!

Hey,

the topic pretty much says it. I bought myself a new headset(C-media headphone set or something) which uses a USB-port instead of an original sound-port-thing. The problem is, whenever I plug the headset in the USB-port pretty much nothing happens and I can't get the sound in the headset, it just stays in the speakers...

It used to be no problem when I used a headset with the sound-port on the motherboard to just change it. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do? :(

edit: forgot to say that it works just fine after rebooting the computer.

Thank you

Hi Foonksh,

Try going into the Control Panel and go into Sounds and Audio Devices. From there you can pick the default device for recording and for playback. In the playback section, set the headset as the default device instead of your speakers.

I can't figure out how to fix this. I noticed that, when I'm watching a video, my headset's mic will relay the audio coming into my headset. Disabling Stereo Mix doesn't fix it. The physical controller that's on my headset cable doesn't stop it from happening, as even if I turn the volume knob all the way down and flick the mute switch, it's still picking up the audio. Muting my headset from within the computer stops the mic from hearing it, as does switching to my speakers that are plugged into the front jack. My headset is a 3.5mm jack type plugged into the back of the computer, directly into the motherboard.

A:Installed new USB Headset NOW no speaker audio even if I unplug the headset

Yeah, my USB headset was a little weird at first as well.

Try going into your volume control (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control):
1. Click Options
2. Properties
3. Change the mixer device from the USB headset to your speakers.

Should work.

Also should note you can change the output settings in most audio software (for example: Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.) so if you can't hear anything from your speakers when using those programs, try fiddling with those settings as well. I know for Winamp it's Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > double-click the plug-in you use (mine is out_ds.dll) and again change it to your speakers using the drop down menu.

With my old headset i used to have a blast recording sounds/music coming out of my comptuer directly using wave out. Often for MSN voice clips and such.

I haven't changed anything, but now that i have this new headset, the only recording i seem to be able to do is voice recording in sound recorder, i can't seem to record wave out mix on sound recorder, and can't record anything whatsoever in msn voice clips.

I can hear voice clips sent to me though, strange thing is, when someone invited me to an audio conversation earlier, i got the annoying ringing noise alright , but i couldn't hear anything.

I checked my volume controls nothing is muted.
Any help would be fantastic! Thanks in advance

I have a almost broken headset, but the microphone still works fine, The microphone is connected on the wire right before the headset, Its not actually touching the headset itself.

Would this microphone still work if the headset was cut off?

Sorry but I can't manage to take a photo but

A:Will a Headset microphone still work if I cut it off the Headset?

Is the microphone actually supported by the headset, by that I mean when the set is on your head is the microphone carried close to your mouth so you have both hands free. If this is the case then cutting off the headset will mean the microphone will not have any way of being held near your mouth.
If you cut it off you will have to be very careful you don't cut the wires for the microphone & it's possible that there is a common return wire for the earpieces & the microphone in the form of a shielded cable, so it would be very difficult, but if you have skills in this area it could be done.

Hi Guys, I am having trouble with some Bose QC35 headphones. They have been working fine until a short time ago, nothing has changed as far as I can tell

Now I only have sound when the headset is connected as a headset, but not when it is connected headphones. This is a problem becuase the microphone turns on so I get feedback from surround sounds and the ANC on my headset turns off. When I go into the control panel and try testing the sound, the green bars move up and down for both headphone and headset, but I only actually hear sound from the headset.

I have tried updating firmwares, turning computer and headphones on and off, repairing the headphones, checked all the volume selection spots I know about and as far as I can tell, there should be sound coming from the headphones

Computer is a lenovo P50 running windows 7

Anyone got any suggestions?

I've searched around a lot about this topic, but after hours and days of searching, I've found nothing to fix my problem. I have a headset that has speakers and a microphone (3.5mm jacks) that work fine, except when I'm trying to talk to someone using the microphone, they can hear the sounds coming from my headset (youtube videos, game sounds etc). I've tried installing the Realtek HD Audio Codec but it disappears after it finishes installing and after I restart (although it still remains in the Programs and Features uninstall page), the program files for it is empty with the exception of RtlUpd64.exe which doesn't do anything when executed and a few other files.
In device manager, the things I have under sound, video and game controllers are Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus and the Intel Display Audio. I've updated everything to the latest. Also, I recently system restored my computer and before I did I had IDT High Definition Audio Drivers, but after updating they were changed.
I think the problem is that stereo mix is enabled somewhere or something to do with my drivers as when I tried plugging my headset into my brother's computer, it worked fine (he has the Gigabyte Realtek Audio Manager thing and was able to adjust the stereo mix settings).
If there's a program or workaround to this, or how to disable the stereo mix like through registry or something, please let me know.

A:Headset mic recording sounds through headset?

You are correct, that is the usual cause of this problem. And aside from being set in the drivers, it can sometimes be set in the application (used for the communication).

That model does appear to use the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio chipset. The problem is likely in the fact that you upgraded to Win10 and I don't see that HP supports nor supplies drivers for Win10 (I only see drivers for 7 and 8). Which means you are using generic drives supplied by Windows. The generic Windows drivers often work well enough to get hardware functional, but quite often don't support all hardware or all features of all hardware.

I have an odd situation I have been tracking for some time and I think I have it isolated to when it will occur and when it does not. I am posting
it just to see if anyone else has this issue and knows of a fix. My guess is most people just think their PC is stuck and power off and back on to reboot.
The issue was that when my Windows 7 pro laptop applied a Defender update  the laptop took roughly 45 minutes to reboot.
What I found was the issue happens in these situations:

The Defender patch was 400KB or largerA Windows Restart is used to apply the patchIf I applied the patch via a Windows update manually, then issues a Windows RestartIf I allow the patch to apply during a Windows Shutdown, the next power on boot is delayed
It does not happen in this situation:

I apply the patch via Windows Update, then do a shutdown to power off the unit, then power the laptop back
on, there is no issue.
In all instances the patch is applied successfully based on what the Windows update history shows. The patch itself applies very quickly in all situations
To me it seems like a Restart after a Defender update is causing Defender to run a scan before allowing the laptop to boot. The laptop will just
stay on the Starting Windows screen with the 4 colored window for 45 minutes then boot normally. Typically running a Defender scan on the laptop takes about 45 minutes which is why I think the Windows Update\Restart sequence is triggering a scan. Normally

I purchased my HP Compaq 8710p laptop from Purdue University in May of 2008. A little after that it was stolen from me. Thankfully I had it LoJack secured, and they were able to recover it in London. When I got my computer back, however, the Windows XP that it had come pre-installed with was replaced with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I never had an issue with it for two years until now.

It seems like my computer overheats more often then it should, especially if it is on my lap or the fan is covered at all. This may be normal but even more annoying than that is whenever it shuts down from an overheat or it goes in to sleep mode or I ever have to manually shut it down, it gets to the Windows loading screen where the colors come in from the sides, then freezes, flashes the BSOD and then reboots. When I try to run the Repair, it take about half an hour then says Repair couldn't fix the computer.

Anyone have any ideas?

This is quite possibly the strangest error sequence I've come across in all my years working with computers.

My system has issues. Unfortunately. Possibly more than one. But I do know that for about the last month, up until this morning, any attempt to turn on my system would require the user to boot into Windows, wait ~15 seconds for a hard, BSOD-inducing crash (with MEMORY_MANAGEMENT as the cause a majority of the time), wait for the system to reboot and reach the Windows boot animation, suffer yet another hard, BSOD-inducing crash (with no minidump this time, however, since it hadn't fully loaded Windows yet), and then finally reboot once more, after which the system would seem to function perfectly. My one change this morning? I removed one stick of my RAM.

Now, normally this would seem to be pretty cut and dried, but I had similar problems with this setup earlier in the year. I exchanged my RAM twice, then my motherboard, then my RAM again, which is leading me to believe that it might well be a CPU issue (note that my system is not currently being overclocked). But my Windbg skills aren't what they used to be, and I'm currently running on a spotty 3G internet connection, so my options for diagnosis are a tad limited.

1.I've had my computer for over a year and have it tweaked to my liking and so what would be the best way to be able to wipe out and re-install my computer just as it is today?

2. Same scenario except I would like to re-install Win7 only w/o a disk in hand, can I create a Win7 disk while my computer is running fine?

I need to reformat and reinstall Windows XP on my Dell Dimension 8200, which is about 5 year old. It is my understanding that first you reinstall XP and then you have to reinstall the drivers. I am not sure how to reinstall the drivers.

When I ordered my computer from Dell, it came with things like a monitor, printer, speakers, video card, and sound card.

The computer also came with a cd that is labeled "Drivers and Utilities". The cd is also labeled "Dell Dimension ResourceCD for Reinstalling Device Drivers and Using Diagnostics, Utilities, and Online Documentation".

Will this cd install all of the necessary drivers for all of the hardware that came with my computer? For instance, my video card is a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420. Will the cd have the drivers for this, or will it only have some sort of generic video drivers?

If the cd does have all the necessary drivers, how do I use it to actually install them? Do I just click some button and the cd will automatically install all the necessary drivers?

Last, is there some program I can use that will make copies of my already existing device drivers so that I can use them as a last resort.

But when laptop starts working again , the boot option 0 appears. I uploaded the images , you can see. Is my hard drive failing ? I have format and installed new windows but still nothing happened. Please help me fast . a help will be much appreciated. Waiting for you reply

Probably however you will not know for sure until you test the drive. Find out the mfg ie WD, Seagate, whatever and download the diagnostic. Note you need the boot or dos version NOT the windows version. Boot the system with the bootable media and test the drive. Do both the long and short tests.

You are trying to tell us that Windows 7 Pro installs FINE, but after updates gets hosed, then don't do the updates.

Mail setup, what are you talking about? I mean exactly what.... the web addresses, names of the software, etc.

Details details details, and you might was to proofread that post, it is typo ridden and very unclear.

Hi,I apologize in advance, for the long winded thread but I just couldn't explain it properly any other way.(computer specs at the bottom)First off, it's not my computer, so I'm going to go with owner's explanation of how problem started. It started a few months ago when computer needed to be restarted as it would freeze during video playback (not sure if it's related but I figured too much information is better than not enough)Then, on restart, computer would lose time and date (dead battery - I changed it)Problem solved ...so I thoughtRecently (a few weeks ago) owner started experiencing the same issues as stated above BUT combined with computer's unwillingness to reboot or even reset by pressing the On/Off or Reset buttons. After repeated pressing the start button it would occasionally restart but would also ask the owner to press F1 to continue or DEL to access BIOS (both Start and Reset buttons and connections are OK).Eventually owner was able to restart computer with no noticeable changes in computer functionality or behavior. (Apart from a few audio/video issue that would be resolved with a standard restart). (No issues on reboot in these cases) Then yesterday things started to get really bad.Owner would notice that computer would reboot repeatedly on its own (computer inactive, display turned off and no antivirus or Disk Defrags scheduled).Eventually it restarted on its own during the night. Then, this morning, I decided to do a few tests.Computer... Sounds to me like a piece of hardware is dying. I would do the following:How to Test your RAMGuide OverviewThe purpose of this guide is to teach you how to check whether your system's RAM (Ramdom Access Memory) is working properly. Bad RAM can lead to a whole host of problems, often which do not appear to have a single cause -- appearing as systemwide glitches, blue screens, and other system trouble. MemTest86+ provides a very good detection mechanism for failed RAM, and is about as good a test you get short of actually replacing the module itself.Tools NeededPlease perform these steps from a separate, working, machine.Download MemTest86+, and unzip it to your desktop.Burn the image file to a CD, as an image file. If you're unsure how to do this, see the How to Burn an ISO File tutorial.Perform these steps on the problem machine.Put your CD in the drive and configure your machine to boot to the CD. This is different on all machines, but it's usually by pressing F12 or F10 as your system boots, and selecting either "CDROM" or your cdrom drive. If you are unable to force a CDRom boot, reply with the make and model of your machine and I should be able to get you exact instructions. If you've done it correctly, MemTest86+ will start to run automaticly, as shown below:
If you want to be reasonably your RAM is OK, then allow MemTest to run until you see this message:

hi all, I'm looking for some help with a problem which has been driving me nuts for the last 3 or 4 days.

on my previous windows installation, I found that I could not install or uninstall any software without the OS rebooting part way through, so I thought, it's about time to reinstall anyway, why not !

on reinstalling XP, it turns out that after I've installed one or two programs this starts happening again.

on 2 occassions this has resulted in a blue screen stop and dump message (when I turned off auto-rebooting) which indicated some memory addresses.

I've looked into,

MSI package reinstallation (if someone can help me out on this that'd be great, I could only find info for win9X-win2k)

Viruses - there were 2 possibles, but both turned out not to be resident when using the symantec removal utilities for them.

Hardware - memory and HDD's turned out to be fine according to a couple of different test utils.

chkdsk - turned up no errors

swap file reconstruction - used a utility from tucows to reconstruct the swap file, still no luck, I'll probably try deleting the file outside the OS next and letting it recreate.

removing resident programs & useless startup programs - still happens.

has anyone even heard of this happening before ... I had great difficulty tracking down any information whatsoever.

help me tech support forums ... you're my only hope ... *bzzt*

I'm running windows 7 on my computer. I've got two users setup. One is for the family which when you reboot and/or just start the computer with the on switch it automatically loads this with out any password. But if I want to get into the Administrative side of the computer I have to let the family side load then click on shutdown and then click log off. Then the window will close and the screen will open up with the option to click on Family icon or the Administrative icon. If I click on Admin icon I have to login, all's working well. My question: While adding new programs from the administrative side and then it wants you to reboot, it will automatically load backup on the Family side. Is this OK for installing software, or is there a simple way in this instance to reboot and have it give me the option to load the Administrative side instead of going into Family side? Thanks

A:Trying to reboot in Administrative side with reboot

Hello Rick,

If the program needs to restart the PC, then it's usually only to apply and finish up the installation. It usually doesn't matter what account you log on to afterwards, but it would be best to log back on to the account you installed the program from to make sure.

If you like, you could turn off automatic logging on to an account at startup to be able to select what account you want to sign in to at start up instead. Log On Automatically at Startup
In addition, you could use "Switch User" or "Log Off" instead to log on to another account without shutting down the computer.

Hello----

I have Windows xp os. I have SpywareBlaster, SpyBot S&D, HJT and Kaspersky Pro. My problems all started when my Kaspersky files became corrupted (???). I was unable to download the newest updates automatically and have been spirialing out of control since. I have 4 separate users on this machine. I can get into Safe Mode and look around, did a compete scan with all my spyware and kaspersky stuff. Nothing major...still wont stay booted up. Is there anything I can do? I am obviously using another computer (at work) to try and resolve.

When it trys to boot it looks like it's looking for the disk (I get the hourglass and disc symbol). When I go to the "blue" screen (by F5) I selected "Hard Drive". That seemed to work and I got into each users profile albeit ever so slowly. I managed to get the latest updates in Kaspersky. As soon as I tried to turn off......reboot loop.

My next step this evening is to run the virus scan in safe mode. Any other suggestions?

thanks

Hi there,Here are the things I would try:1. "Disabling the ?restart on system failure? feature may permit the exact cause to be isolated: Right-click on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under ?Startup & Recovery,? click Settings. Under ?System Failure,? uncheck the box in front of ?Automatically restart.? "2. Disabling your audio drivers. Could cause problems during system shutdown if Windows exit audio file or audio driver is corrupt.3. If this continues to be a problem, see if shutting down while is safe mode causes the same symptom. If you are able to shutdown properly while in Safe Mode, rung MSCONFIG (from Run Command) and disable all startup items to see if this resolves. If it does, manually re-enable one startup item at a time until you determine which item maybe causing the isse.4. You can read more about your problem here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/h...el_02may13.mspxHope this helps! Good luck.Regards,Bill

This is my first ever post here on this forum so sorry if my info is less than you need.

So the problem is that every time i reboot my computer i get "reboot and select proper boot device. Or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" on the screen. I have been in the bios and check that the boot order is correct and it is but sometimes my HDD comes up as "??" device.

Usually it helps to reboot the device many times and / or reinsert the SATA cables but I wish i did not have to open my case every morning to fix the issues. But once it has booted into windows I have no problems until the next reboot.

I am an IT student on the final year so my experience tells me that there is a problem with the SATA cable or boot block of Bios but I would love to get someone else's opinion

My computer hard drive crashed a week ago and most of my back-ups went with the system. So, I got a new 500 GB drive and have been re-installing everything from scratch. I started with a clean install of Windows XP (service pack 2), which took forever to get all the up-dates done. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 and did the up-dates for that. I didn't make a recovery disk at this point because I wanted to get everything installed first.

Unfortunately, the last time I went to reboot it failed. When I power-up the computer it stalls out on the Dell BIOS screen. I can't get into Safe Mode, Setup, or the Boot Menu because my keyboard and mouses are not working. They are both USB and none of my USB ports are working. (Also, I have not PS/2 ports on my machine.).

Finally, I cannot get the machine to boot off the DVD drive; so, even if I wanted to, I could not start over with a fresh installation.

My machine is a Dell Inspiron 530.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows 7 won't reboot and cannot reboot from DVD

There's not a whole lot you can do for this as it sounds like your mobo might be going out. First, I would check all your usb ports and make sure there is no damage to them (metal bent, touching other contacts). If that doesn't work you can try resetting the cmos via the jumpers, or by disconnecting the power and removing the flat silver battery on the motherboard for about 15m.

Let us know if that does anything.

Scenario is like this. Use it almost all the time with external power. Leave it on at night because autoscan for anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware and backup are accomplished at night. Once a week I teach a class that requires me to use the notebook, therefore it's on battery during the class.

When I put it back on external power and turn it on it take a long time or never to boot up. The timing is like this ON switch.......BIOS and then offer to go into Safe Mode......30 sec. full up Safe Mode with Network..... another 90 sec. That's where I am now. The last attempt to boot to the "last known" good operating system results in afer the Welcome Screen the monitor goes black with only the mouse showing. I waite for about 15 minutes and it never did display anything but the mouse cursor, which I could move.
Any ideas?

Backstory:

I work at a helpdesk that supports about 200+ hotels around North America for internet connectivity. We primarily work with guests and troubleshoot their issues in getting connected. My position is a tier 2 support, which we remotely manage network devices on site, ranging from gateways down to access points. Our helpdesk use to be outsourced to a different company, until about October last year. Our training that we received was extremely limited and basically most of us have learned from doing it (awesome eh? [sarcasm]) A lot of the people that I work with come from past tech helpdesk, where as I was a manager of a pool... so IT was not my strong suit, but i learn fast. In any case, several other guys and myself have been placed in charge of a unofficial tier 2 position because we have taught ourselves about how most of the networking in the hotels works and learned from documentation at these properties that are way outdated (our resources are fairly limited and we often have to resort to trial and error...) As the time has gone on we have helped each other learn things here and there, and usually agree on how to handle networking issues that we run into... except for this issue (so far):

Question:

When referring to access points we normally work with BelAir 20's and Cisco Aironet 1100's.

When is it appropriate to consider rebooting the access points? I find that commonly we are concluding that it is an access point that needs to be rebooted to re... Read more

I'm actually not sure this is a hardware issue, but I could find no better place to post it:

Someone brought an old Dell laptop to me, with a Pentium M & WinXP. They told me they were getting the blue screen on bootup. They also told me the battery no longer worked; it needs to be plugged in.

I didn't get the blue screen, but I was initially confronted with the "no date & time" prompt. I went into setup and set it. It has since held for a few reboots. After the reset, when it is booted up, it gets past the Win splash screen and then flashes a dialog box quickly complaining of a lack of resources or system memory. The message changes, but essentially refers to a lack of resources each time. After the message flashes the machine reboots and returns to that point, cycling through another reboot.

I reseated the RAM for the heck of it, which made no difference. I'm not sure where I'd go from here. Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks,
