Driver Power State Failure Blue Screens on Windows 7 Home Premium eMachine Laptop

Q: Driver Power State Failure Blue Screens on Windows 7 Home Premium eMachine Laptop

I recently have been getting blue shutdown screens on my laptop. I will give you plenty of information about my computer. I put all the information about the Blue screen dump files and my System Information file in an attachment. I hope this helps. I recently found out you could save the System Information file as a text and also as an .exe. This should help diagnose the problem! This is how it happens, I will be using my computer and then the computer will become very slow and unresponsive. It is not completely unresponsive but it will be so slow that I cannot use it, then after about 3 minutes of this slow unresponsiveness the blue screen will show up and say driver power state failure and shutdown. I recently formatted the computer because it had been doing this before so I restored it back to factory defaults about one month ago.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Okay it seems this problem is fairly common, but what isn't, is a simple solution that is easily understood, (for me, anyway). I get the blue screen, but my laptop shuts down too quickly for me to read all of what is going on and I don't know what to do.

What I do get is that Windows is shutting down to protect my system from damage. I also understand the evil "Driver_Power_State_Failure", which should come with its very own Mr Yuk Sticker.

The problem is sporadic, but happens often enough to be annoying. The reboot is so slow it has whiskers on it by the time I make it back to the desktop, and this seems to happen after my PC has been hibernating or sleeping, (but not immediately), which I take to be another commonality. I keep seeing that this may be a driver problem, but since it IS sporadic, I cannot pinpoint when it began, thereby trying to deduce WHICH program driver may be the culprit.

I use an G60 Series HP laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2.

Please help?

Thanks much,

Donna

I recently purchased a Western Digital My Book Premium Edition external hard drive and installed it on my new HP A6157C computer. I felt I needed it because I wanted to protect my media files which are extensive. I am running Vista Home Premium.

I have had a problem with the power button on the external drive. It will not shut it down. I call for support to WD and was told to unplug the drive if I wanted to power it down. Did not make sense at all to me. The documentation says that all you have to do is hit the power button once and it will turn the device off.

Every time I power up MyBook, at some point, I have been getting a Driver Power State Failure and the computer shuts down. On the box of MyBook, it says it works with Windows Vista but all of the documentation online (help manuals, etc) on talk about Windows XP and older editions of Windows.

I am wondering if the driver power state failure is related to MyBook? I am contemplating removing the My Book - trying to figure out how to reformat it since I have information on it.

Any advice? It is possible that it is not compatible with Windows Vista?

Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

It looks like there may be a documented reason >>

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=929762&sd=RMVP

And it looks like it might fit the bill, since your device appears to use that type of connection > http://tech.yahoo.com/ps/western-digital-my-book-premium-edition-wdg1c5000/1993706733

And your computer does have a firewire port I believe.

Try the update suggested.

Or are you connecting it through USB? If you have it connected to the firewire port, and the update does not help -- switch to USB

If all else fails, do the following >>

We might be able to tell this from the dump files that are created when you get a "blue screen":

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to %systemroot%\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder.%systemroot% is normally c:\windows. They are numbered by date. You can paste that address in address bar to get there.
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a 3rd party driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

The operating system is 64 bit OEM. The computer is about nine months old (I got it at the end of June). I have not re-installed the operating system nor made any significant changes. Attached is the output from the "BSOD dump and system file collection" executable. I added the system health report to the same folder as the rest of the stuff, under the name "performanceanalysis.html". Let me know if you need any information that is absent from those files.

The BSOD usually occurs when the computer hibernates, restarts, or turns off. The computer will take an exceptionally long amount of time on the "turning off" screen, then the fan will start running loudly and the BSOD appears.

Thanks a lot!

I've attached the SF diagnostic files that have the blue screen. 90% of them are for driver power state failure with ntoskrnl.exe being the culprit. I'm not really concerned with the others. There's going to be BSOD, I just want to stop the majority of them.

This is almost always caused by having the computer sleep. User can close the lip on their laptop or just walk away so it auto-sleeps and it will have crashed when they come back to use it. I've gone through the forum and see that a lot of the BSOD are related to sleep/awake crashes.

Thanks everyone. This forum is great

The Vista Toshiba Satellite A215-S4757 AMD Turion Dual Core 32bit will not startup - has dead keyboard as well although it seems to light up. Tried putting in restore disc but nothing. I considered dead and bought a new laptop - HP Windows 7. Didn't like Vista anyway! Want to know if there is any hope for repair (without costing a fortune!). I was downloading new BIOS when received a message indicating that I needed to be running as administrator (which I was). The download had not reached backup yet so old BIOS should have been untouched at that point. I could not continue so tried to back out. Then received above error and blue screen. I was hoping to fix keyboard problems and message on your site or a similiar site said new BIOS would fix problem. I took the problem laptop to the Geek Squad to copy files from the hard drive and it was in good condition.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your storage controller (iastor) is causing memory corruption.

You should update its driver and download and run memtestx86, run it for 5 passes to test your memory

Hi Safyz and welcome to TSF.

Could you give us your full system specs so we can see what we are working with. If you are unsure what your specs are, download and run Speccy, then when it's generated the information (about 10 seconds) go File>Save Snapshot, and attach that .speccy file as well. (You will need to zip it to attach it here: Right click on it and select 'Send To'>'Compressed (zipped) Folder'.

Could you also tell us what PSU (Powers Supply Unit) you have and what wattage it is. To find this out, turn off the computer and open it up and look for a label on it. It should tell you the make and wattage there.

Also, next time you boot the machine can you:

Window Key+R and type msconfig and hit OK.
Under 'Services tab', tick 'Hide all Microsoft Services' and then uncheck the remaining programs and 'Apply'
Then under 'Startup tab' - Uncheck anything not Microsoft related then 'Apply' and OK

Could you also let me know if you have recently installed any new programs or hardware. What anti-virus are you running?

Hello!

I just bought a new Toshiba laptop on Saturday and I'm already having a bit of a problem. I've searched this out on Google already and it seems most people have this occur in a different situation than I do.

Twice now, I've gotten this blue screen that says "Power Driver State Failure."

It's happened while I was online or today just while I was writing an essay for my college class.

I've made sure everything is updated but I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be having problems so soon.

Can anyone help me out?

Any suggestions would be really really appreciated.

The tuner is actually a YUAN DVB-T/Analog Hybried TV Tuner, but TOSHIBA OEM. And, Toshiba does not have any driver for that device that can work with Windows 7. Have a look here: Support :: Toshiba :: Computers, Laptops/Notebooks, Tablets, Televisions, DVD and Blu-Ray Players, Camcorders, Storage, Accessories, and more

In this situation, it will be the best for you to disable the device.

Hi darnapkin,

You should have a look at the BSOD posting instructions, and run the applications listed there and get back to us with all that information.

Meanwhile I've looked through this specific one, error code is:

Code:

The driver you're using:

Code:
asmtxhci.sys Wed Dec 08 10:14:06 2010 (4CFF5A6E)
Driver belongs to an USB hub, please update the drivers for this one at the manufactures website here.

Also please update this driver:

Code:
lirsgt.sys Sat Mar 06 19:53:01 2004 (404A2C1D)
Driver belongs to a CopyProtect application, manufacturers site found here. It's dated to 2004 which is way before Windows 7 was created. This shouldn't be used. Either uninstall it or update it.

As I said, if you need more information; I need you to run the applications from the BSOD posting instructions thread.

But you're welcome to try the other things I mentioned first.

A:Driver power state failure - Blue Screen

Hi jlampila,

We can try few troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue between hardware/software:

To check if it is related to hardware, run the built-in diagnostics provided by the manufacturer on the computer to check if the hardware is working fine.

If diagnostics passes then it could be related to a driver problem.

You can configure the windows to ensure that minidump files are created, please follow the steps mentioned in the link: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD - Windows 7 Forums

With this information we can help: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Please post the results.

EDIT 20/01/13: Okay so I have left it a while to see if I still ran into problems and unfortunately I am.

I THINK it must have something to do with my wifi driver or something as this is how it goes:
- Connected to internet
- Suddenly lose connection
-Computer tells e no networks are available, nothing i do changes this
-Restart computer
-Sticks on restart loading circle
-Blue screen

For the last two days when restarting my laptop (Aspire V3-571G) it hangs on the restarting spinning circle and then crashes to a blue screen saying to search online for DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE for more info.

On successful boot I am greeted with a message asking if I want to send the info to microsoft troubleshoot and that a .dmp file hasbeen created in my mindump folder.

I have honestly no idea what could be causing this.

Can anyone offer me any help? I would really appreciate it.

I have ran the tool provided and hopefully the .zip file will help shed some light on my problem.

Things to note, this never happened during the bootup process nor login screen. But right after I typed my login name and password it would happen. Otherwise it during general usage.

Third symptom-Twice during a crashes it said the NVIDIA driver had recovered from kernel mode or something like that and it fixed the screen.

Fourth symptom- I got a blue screen of death stating "Driver Power State Failure 0x0000009f" The screen was also fuzzed on the blue screen. I woke up this morning to it.

Based on the symptoms I believe it's either a problem with the power supply or the graphics card. I've tried totally... Read more

So about a month and a half ago I bought myself a new MSI Laptop, and in the past 3 weeks I've had 5 Driver Power State Failure (DPSF) BSOD's. I've searched around but I'm not confident enough when it comes to BSOD's to actually do anything without first getting some advice for my particular problem. All I have really been able to tell from this is that the error always occurs at the same location, ntoskrnl.exe (+7cc40), which, being a critical part of the OS, I assume is a very bad thing. A:Driver Power State Failure - New MSI Laptop

I would try...downloading (from MSI website)...chipset and wireless drivers for your system...then removing the current drivers via Device Manager, followed by installation of the new ones.

Or...if you have drivers CD with your system, you can use that, rather than downloading drivers from MSI website.

Hi.

Please update this card reader driver to alleviate your issues:

Code:

Also good to do:

I also noticed many older drivers. Please visit ATI's website to get the latest video card driver.

From day one when I opened up this laptop it was crashing. I've had the RAM replaced, the SSD (twice), factory reset, MOBO replaced, and still the same intermittent crashing. The company I bought this from "tried" to fix it but couldn't ever get anywhere. This has been a 2 year P.I.T.A. for me and I'm finally coming to you guys because the company I bought this from has informed me that my warranty is up and I will have to start paying for their "help". I thought that was comical. Nonetheless. Here I am. I need help. Not sure where to start because I've never been able to pinpoint the cause. Most of the time the BSOD reads "Driver State Power Failure". I've personally updated all of my drivers, chipset, BIOS, graphics card, etc. The vendor has also done the same. To no avail.

Let me know what I can do to help someone diagnose this for me.

It sounds like you have an ASUS ROG G551JW laptop which originally came with Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
You say you bought it new and had problems with it the very first day of use, so I'm surprised you didn't return it for another one instead of having hardware replaced in it for the past 2 years.

There are several links here that you can read about "driver power state failure" in Windows 10.

Dear forummers,

Recently, I've been heving some BSOD'S wen putting my GE70-i550M287FD to sleep mode or hibernation. The NB just stays just active with a black screen for a while, only to end up in a BSOD eventually.
It gives me always the same BSOD, so I figured it would be caused by a single error. However, I haven't been able to detect and fix it up until now. I hoped that some of you might have dealt with it before or know how to deal with it.

The only hardware I've got plugged is the mouse. I have't been able to test if I got the same error without the mouse plugged. Also, this BSOD ONLY occures when going into hibernation/sleep mode.

This is a photo from the BSOD I keep getting once a week/2 weeks or so.

Thank you in advance!

This error has been happening for 80% of the time when my laptop is shutting down or restarting. It started few days ago when I removed everything and reinstalled windows. I then refreshed my laptop couple of times but the problem is still persisted. I updated windows and all devices are up to date. Restarts are also slow when it does restart properly.

When I tried updating to windows 8.1, it would stop at "setting up 82%" and had to hold the power button to turn off the laptop couple times.

Hi,

I'm getting frequent random BSOD Power_Driver_State_Failure on my ASUS G551JM Laptop (https://asus.com/support/Download/3/...RbVetG02i5/41/) It happens while plugged in and running off battery but more frequently on battery power. It usually happens within 30 minutes of powering on the laptop or waking it up from sleep/hibernate. It primarily happens after logging into windows but on rare occasion will blue screen prior.

I've updated drivers from Asus and chipset manufacturers websites: intel rapid storage driver, Intel MEI driver, Intel INF driver, Intel wifi and bluetooth drivers, clean installed nvidia gtx 860m drivers. I tried to update intel HD graphics drivers but got this error message:
Computer Manufacturer Graphics Driver Detected. Your computer manufacturer customizes the drivers that run Intel components on your machine. You might lose functions and cause other technical issues by installing the Intel drivers.
Windows updates are up-to-date and no virus or malware.

Please help,
Thank You.

All of the memory dumps blame your Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) drivers. Please update the drivers from the Lenovo website. If a more updated version isn't available from Lenovo, then download/install the latest version from Intel here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics. Let us know the results and we can move on from there.

Hi guys, my name is Filippo.
I am experiencing a severe problem with my laptop, a pretty new ASUS S550CB. It started two weeks ago and I really cannot figure out what is the cause. The problem is that the laptop is no longer unable to wake up from sleep or hybernation modes. If it goes to sleep, after it wakes up it is able to show the login screen (sometimes) but when you're typing the password it freezes and after a while, a blue screen saying that the computer stopped working due to a Driver Power State Failure is shown. A minidump is saved and the computer is restarted. The whole operation takes a looong time. I also notice that boot times are much longer even when waking up from power off state.

Hey ya'll im having a on-board networking problem. hoping anybody can help!

so, i went out of town Friday morning and got back yesterday. my computer was off all weekend. I have a linksys router and have 3 computers(including mine) connected to it through out my house. I turned my computer on for the first time last night and started up just fine, but no internet nor did the other computer in my house. i rebooted the router and modem and got the other computers connected. by this point my computer still has no access to the internet. so i try a few little things aside from reinstalling the chipset drivers. no success. so as a last resort I reinstall the driver and proceeded to get it to work. again no success.

computer specs are:
Asus P5N-e SLI nforce 650li
C2D e4600 @2.6 -- OC'd to 3.21
4gigs OCZ ram OC'd
8800GT OC'd
Windows 7 RC1 7100 64bit(1st problem i had using this RC. OS)
750 psu
4 Western Digital hard drives(500 sata,160 sata,160 IDE,120 sata) no RAID
xf-i pci sound card

this is what happening now. after the reinstall it hangs on shutdown or rebooting the OS. my network controller appear and disappears in the Network Connections menu. re- and un- installed it in safe mode a few times. all and all no success.

here the Windbg report i have on the BOSD minidump i got.

I think I big issue is that my motherboard does not have any Windows 8 drivers (big mistake on my part upgrading), but there could also be other reasons.

A:Windows 8 Driver State Power Failure

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions). I strongly suspect that this hold true for Win8 systems also.

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): [S] DuplexSecure - FAQ [/S] Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012

Ok so when shutting down my computer it seems to hang at shutting down for ages (time changes) and then I get a BSOD and it says DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE. It also does this randomly when not shutting down.

I have a Dell XPS, Core i7 (8x 2.67ghz), 8Gigs of RAm, running a legal copy of Windows 7 Home Edition (64bit).

Its fully updated and have previously done a reinstall.

Cant really think what else to do. Oh and when listen to music (most noticable) the sound cuts out and makes horible noises for a half second then plays fine and then does it again later. It seems to only do this after the computer has been on a while though.

I have attached minidumps bellow.

Anything would be helpfull.

Hi,

Obvious cause - nvm62x64.sys is mentioned in all the dumps.

Code:
nvm62x64.sys Sat Oct 18 10:01:06 2008 (48F8FD12)
And it is out of date.

It is the NVidia Networking driver - part of the nForce chipset driver package.

Update it from here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us (you may have to find out what exact chipset your motherboard uses)

Regards,
Reventon
