autounattend.xml will not load from USB HDD

Q: autounattend.xml will not load from USB HDD

I have been trying to figure this one for few days now, but I'm still stuck...I have created Win7 Pro image and want to deploy it using external usb drive(s) in upcoming laptop deployment at my company. All went well with creating the answer file, no errors
at all and it does exactly what I need/want.
My issue is that when I copy the autounattand file onto the root of usb drive that contains all the setup folders/files, setup does not seem to detect the file and stalls at the very first choice of install language, however...when I take the very same answer
file and copy it onto smaller pendrive and start the same test laptop up with both external usb drives connected, configuration picks up and setup goes along without any issues. What gives? Tell me what I'm missing, please.
Thank you.

Preferred Solution: autounattend.xml will not load from USB HDD

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
The autounattend.xml file must be to the root of a UBS flash drive or a DVD.

Hi, all just want some help on why the Autounattend.xml file that I have attached is not working.
It is designed to simply generate a random computer name and join the computer to the relevant 2008-R2 active directory domain specified during the OOBE setup process.
I have placed it in the root of OS drive (Aka C:\) and specified it as follows:

sysprep.exe /oobe /shutdown /quiet /unattend:C:\Autounattend.xml
When I start the computer back up, it is neither on the domain nor is the computer name changed and randomnized. The domain user account specified in the Autounattend.xml has permissions to create and delete computer objects.
What is wrong with what I am doing?

UBER EDIT: Starting over from scratch as it just got too complicated.

Hi, just built a new rig and have been utterly unsuccessful at installing windows on it. My rig has a razer deathadder mouse and deathstalker keyboard so during the windows install process the are not recognized and useless. I found out that I can use the "unattended install" method to circumvent this handicap. However I am running into problem after problem.

Im using the Official Install DVD and a USB with the autounattend.xml at the root. I created the autounattend.xml using RT Seven Lite. When I start it up asks for language and keyboard preference at the collecting information part. Here is my xml:

So I've been asked to research Win7 images and the best way to create and deploy them. We don't have MDT 2010 up yet, so I'm stuck using a custom install.wim along w/ the unattend.xml file.

Question #1

How can you stop Win7 OOBE welcome screen from making you create a local user account? After Win7 finishes its text based setup, I want it to boot into Windows as Admin bypassing the welcome screen (create user/change PC name). This way desktop support can -

1. Change the PC name
2. Join the domain, reboot, and be done
3. End user logs in, process complete

There is no need for them to do a Audit mode w/ reboot. The domain accounts already exist. I don't want local users being created.

In Win XP you could edit the sysprep.inf so that you had -

[GuiUnattended]
AutoLogon=Yes
AutoLogonCount=1

Which would allow you to log in as admin the first time after sysprep, join the domain, etc. How do you do this w/ Win7? I can only get it to log in as admin in systemAudit mode, I want to do it in OOBE.

Hopefully I just missed something. Like I said, I'm new to automating Win7 setup.

A:Windows 7 AutoUnattend.xml - User & PC Name

I was able to successfully solve this exact problem by looking at this website:

Sysprep a Windows 7 Machine

With the unattend.xml file that I have, it prompts for a PC name first thing, then creates the local administrator account and automatically logs in one time, joins to the domain via my JOINDOMAIN.VBS script, installs our AntiVirus program, installs out network management agent, and activates windows automatically with KMS. Then it ends by initiating a system reboot with a 10 minute timeout clock. That way if an admin has to leave the machine during the imaging process, it won't stay logged in to the local admin account. So what you are asking about is definitely possible. Just make sure your unattend.xml file is built correctly.

I created that XML using WSIM. However, if I leave the size field blank (partition: 4), I encounter an error during installation, claiming DiskConfiguration to be incorrect. Is there any way to do this, and how?
Also, after I fixed this, I got a message telling me drivers for HDD/SSD were missing. Since this doesn't seem to happen with the regular installer disks, how and which drivers I need to integrate?

Hi!
I'm about to prepare some OEM computers and have made a simple unattend.xml-file with help from the answering file sample from WAIK, but I can't get it to work properly.

I have copied the file to the root directory of an USB drive and it seemes like the installation program is reading the file (e.g. I don't have to specify an computer name when finalizing the installation) but it's not as automated that I would like it to be. I have to choose wich Windows version to install (basic, HP etc.), the disk partitions listed in the xml-file is not automated (I have to choose wich drive to use for installation), I need to confirm the license agreement, choose date and time options.

What can be wrong? I would like a clean, working autounattend.xml-file that automatically installs and also temporarily activates the administrator account so I can install updates, drivers and such and then seal everything up with sysprep.

Can anyone help me with this?
Here's my autounattend.xml file (I've deleted the OEM info):

Hey,
I have created a autounattend.xml file using the Windows System Image Manager. When validating, everything comes back clean. However, when deploying it ends up failing with the message in the second set
I am deploying using this method to an Intel Compute Stick:
Use Rufus to "install" Windows iso to a Bootable USB drive.Drop autounattend.xml into the root of the USB driveBoot USB device, let the software do it's thing.
What actually happens:
Use Rufus to "install" Windows iso to a Bootable USB drive.Drop autounattend.xml into the root of the USB driveAfter a few minutes, Windows Setup complains: "Windows could not collect information for [OSImage] since the specified image file [D:\Sources\] does not exist

A few things about this:
I never specify D:\Sources anywhere in my autounattend.xmlAuto

I was not planning on doing this with Sysprep, I was planning on dropping the autounattend.xml file directly on to the root of the USB drive and let it install the image automatically rather than booting through WDS or something similar.

I have been reading Windows 10 Image - Customize in Audit Mode with Sysprep - Windows 10 Forums in case sysprep is the absolutely best way though.

Hi,
I've been trying to create my own Autounattend.xml file so that my Win 7 installations goes 100% automatic.
However after couple of days without success I would like to ask for some help.
The autounattend does work as far as to the DiskConfiguration where it fails, it doesn't wipe the disk nor create the partitions that I ask it to do. I've been searching on the forum and I see that there's a lot of people having the same issue however I
can't get mine to work..
If it matters or not, anyway when I come to the disk configuration screen I try to press Next and it just says "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate and existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."
Can anyone out there go through my code to see if there is anything that has to be added/removed/changed?

I have created an automatted installation for Windows 7 via AIK and I am setting the UserLocale, UILangauge and Inputlocale for specific regions. I then saw this aritcle furthest below (see: "Apply regional and language settings to reserved accounts") and was
wondering if there are other autounattend.xml paramters that also need to be set to ensure these "reservered accounts" are set for the proper regions.
Please note: I want to keep the base language for Windows and the SQL Collation set to en-US, just the default users regional settings (UserLocale?), UI (UILanguage?) and keyboard (InputLocale?) settings need to be country specific.
In my Autounatted.xml file I have all the Locale settings set for en-US in the 1 windowsPE section. I believe these only apply for the actual installation process and not the final Windows deployed image. Is that correct?
I believe I need to set the locale setting in either the 4 specialized or 7 oodesystem pass to affect the installed system.
So to achieve, my desired resule, OS & SQL using a base en_US language and the default User, UI, and keyboard langauge being country specific, I would set the Microsoft-Windows-Internationas-Core_neutral settings as follows:
InputLocale to the specific country such as da-DK (Denmark)
SystemLocale is set to en_US
UILangauge is set to da-DK
Userlocale woud also be set to da_DK

I have a scenario where system can have more than one storage controllers. The first storage controller has x amount of disks and is unfortunately enumerated before the controller that has the disk I want to install to. So,
the install disk number is never fixed nor is it ever guaranteed to be zero, unless I take the controller and/or disks offline during the install. This workaround is really not desirable and I am wondering if anyone has a way of installing to a specific disk.
Not being able to install to any disk sort of defeats the purpose of having this field at all. Without someway to dynamically fetch the disk number, it looks like this will only works if the DiskId is guaranteed to be zero such
as on a system with one disk.

I have seen an example from many years ago where it was possible to get the DiskId by running a vbs script like getDiskId.vbs then the autounattend.xml would look like something along those lines. But, it wasn't clear whether
that's still applicable and whether anyone has gotten that to work.

Our users have IE 7 and 8. We keep them locked into place by pointing IE to our firewall product (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings), so that only approved sites are the ones that our people can access. In the last few days, several of them report issues with specific websites loading very slowly - load times of over an hour just to get the log-in screen to appear.Troubleshooting Steps:1.) Unchecked the "use proxy server for your LAN" under the IE menus---> Site resolves instantly, as it should---> This pointed me to the direction that perhaps the site wasn't configured for our firewall2.) Re-checked the "use proxy server" box, and specifically configured the site in our firewall---> Site continues to resolve slowly, with the same load times as before performing step 1That would normally indicate that the problem is on the vendor's end. Something may be wrong with their site. And that's the line of thought I was pursuing until I was reported back to that the users are having the same problem on other websites. These new websites they're having problems with are, and have been for a long time, configured properly in the firewall.I'm not sure what my next step is to pursue. What am I looking for now? Greetings gurus. Internet trouble. As the title says, my mail will not load in any browser. Page load is very slow and most things time out at least once. AT&T ran line tests on DSL and everything was clean. Not sure how this could be. Speedtest was run many times and no probs. I even did some gaming which strains everything with no problems. I'm open to the possibility of a virus. Ran Avira and MBAM but haven't gone further. Strangely the wife's Facebook games are a no-go. Also, wireless devices work fine. Heeeeelp!

I have always worked in Chrome. My work page won't load anymore, as of last week. I tried it in Internet Explorer, and then tried FireFox. Chrome and Internet Explorer both say the problem is with the site, not with my computer or my firewall. FireFox says the site may be busy and can't be contacted. Every other employee, including my husband's computer in the next room, can load this site.
I have tweaked my proxy settings to allow automatic connections. I have disabled Kaspersky and Ad Mucher. I have done three progressively early system restores, to times when I was able to load the web page. I have turned the computer on and off after each new fix I tried. Nothing has worked.
Any suggestions?

I dont know if this is posted in the right area but I'm so desperate to get my laptop working its unreal.
First it started off with my laptop crashing, I had totally forgot it needed to do a windows update and turned off my laptop in hopes that it would work properly.
After that my laptop has not been working. The machine turns on and gives me two options. Start windows normally or do a repair. Upon starting windows normally, it loads so far before sending me back to the two options of start windows normally or repair. On the second time I clicked repair. My laptop then goes so far before presenting me with a blue screen that is usually the screen where my accounts are. The cursor still moves but it loads no further even after leaving it an hour. I decided to make a repair disk, hoping that the problem was because of windows. the disk loads, gives me a choice on the keyboard language then does nothing. I honestly have no idea what to do, I want to keep all the files safe on my computer as I havent backed them up and I have worked so hard on the projects. someone please help

A:windows 7 refuses to load and system repair wont load

Do a hardware/software reset with your BIOS:Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

After doing those steps, clear your CMOS by entering the BIOS (see your system manual for steps to enter the BIOS), going to the EXIT screen, and loading setup/optimized defaults.

Internet access is very slow. It takes up to 3 minutes to get a page to load, and I have to hit 'Reload' 2-3 times before a site finally loads. When it does, Firefox still shows the site as loading. This problem appeared after one of three events. On the same day, I downloaded Babylon and FoxLingo. I have uninstalled both, and removed and remaining registry entries. I also received an email from my fan site on Ning (I am an author) requesting approval for a blog post. The link took me to my fan site, but there was no blog posted. I discovered it was the usual spam for male enhancement drugs, but perhaps it was hiding a more malicious virus. I cleaned up my Ning site and notified them. I have had the problem since. I ran AdAware and AVG, and only came up with minor cookies. I also ran SDFix, including catchme, and got 0 hits. I ran Malwarebytes, which only showed the SDFix files and 2 low-level threats. I also ran HiJackThis, but the log showed nothing that should not be present. All that leads me here. I have followed the procedure in the Prep Guide. FYI-I had to run GMER 3 times. It caused my system to freeze the first two times it finished scanning, which took over 10 hours. Outside of the Internet, my computer runs other software smoothly. I have a brand new ASUS MB, 500GBHD, AMD chip and 4GB DD2 memory-less than 3 months old. Hi,

Laptop is a Samsung R510 running Vista.

When it is switched on, it gets stuck on the Samsung BIOS load screen. The F2 (Setup) and F4 (Recovery) buttons don't work unless they are pressed straight away. But when they are pressed it says 'Please Wait', but nothing happens.

I have changed the CMOS battery, but it hasn't helped.

I have also taken the hard drive out and turned it on, still the same.  Each RAM stick has been tried on its own, and it is still the same.

Can anyone help?

Looking for help.
I've recently completed a new build and can only get WinXP to boot, but not Win 7. First, my components:

ASUS P8Z68-V Pro MB
Intel i7 2600K
Kingston HyperX Ram, 16 GB (KHX1600C9C3K4/16GX)
GeForce 9500GT (used from prior system)
Seagate Barracuda 250 GB (from prior)
Maxtor 500 GB (from prior)
PS is 630W, not sure of brand off hand

My hard drives were previously partitioned as follows. The Seagate had a primary 100 GB boot partition with Windows 7 and the remainder as a backup partition. The Maxtor has a small 20 GB partition with Win XP (as a back up in case of primary drive failure) with the remainder of the drive used as my main data partition.

Assembly seemed to go fine but on first boot simply went to a black screen after post. I flash updated to most recent Bios and disconnected the Maxtor drive. At this point could get to the boot screen. But, no matter what option I chose (normal startup, safe mode, repair, last known working configuration), it would go to black screen with "Starting Windows," and would either hang here, or sometimes the loading animations with the colored flags would just begin to start and then I'd get a blue screen. When attempting safe mode, I would get a blue screen amidst loading drivers. At this point I put in the Win7 installation disk. Whether I select repair or new installation, it will say loading files then go to blue screen after the "Starting Windows" displayed.

At this point, I stripped ... Read more

A:Solved: Browsers will not load microsoft website but will load FB, Google etc etc

Either it's a problem server side for them, which would be an issue with your IP,
or a process/service altered some of your core system settings on your end which blocks the microsoft website for some reason....., you can try a different IP address just to make sure it's not server side for them, and then if that doesn't work I am not sure what to tell you other than reinstalling all browsers, and eventually refromatting if reinstalling browsers does not work.

IF it is an IP issue it could be something with your network, if a network admin blocked the microsoft website, or even theoretically your ISP if there was a strange issue with them, however that would be rare.

About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that my yahoo mail was not loading correctly.
Since then I have discovered that several websites will not load at all.

My wife's laptop with xp has no issues with the same sites.

Yahoo sites load partially displaying only text and text links.
While searching for remedies, I found yahoo answers that appeared like there might be useful information but could not get them to load either.

Two other example sites that do not load at all:
www.irs.gov
www.buzzfeed.com/daves4/the-world-isnt-such-a-bad-place

Firefox reports that they failed to load, Chrome reports that there was no data received.

I have Avast AV running, have tried clearing any and all rootkits. Tried Malware bytes, tried flushing the DNS cache. And as far as I can tell I am virus free yet nothing has helped.

I even tried looking up the IP address of irs.gov using nslookup and could not get any of the returned IP addresses to load.

I thought it may be a DNS issue, but I appear to be using reliable DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Any ideas as to what may be causing my system to refuse to download specific web sites?

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

Details:
- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Alec

I am trying to solve this problem on a friend's laptop. It is a Sony Vaio with Windows 7 64bit, using Chrome. Bought within the last year. I can play videos from sites like youtube, hulu, and sports sites, but when I try to play a video from putlocker, gorillavid, or other streaming sites typically used for videos like anime or tv shows the video either doesn't load (just spins) or takes a REALLY long time to load, almost like it is downloading the full video before it plays.

I borrowed another laptop from the library which also has Windows 7 and Chrome and all the videos play fine on it using the same internet connection, so it is definitely something local to this machine.

I have searched the net for three days trying to find a solution, but to no avail. I have the latest versions of flash, java, etc. I have tried older versions of flash. I've disabled the antivirus and firewall. Disabled the built-in flash plugin for chrome. I really am not sure what else to do. If anyone has any suggestions I would readily welcome them. I have tried other browsers as well and had similar issues.

I have to do a manual refresh from the browser to see the latest version. Not a problem for me, but other viewers of the page may not realize they aren't seeing the latest information.

Is there an HTML tag or some such that can be included in the page that will force a refresh and override any old version that the viewer may still have in their browser cache?

A:Doesn't Always Connect And Pages Don't Always Load Or Load Right

Hello,

Sorry for the delay, this forum is very busy right now.

There is a program from a company called SearchHelp, Inc. on this computer. Sentry at Home or Sentry Remote. From the information I can gather on the Internet, this is a legitimate application aimed at allowing parents control over their children's web surfing habits. Judging by some of the lines in this log it uses a proxy server and several other techniques to filter internet content. This might explain why you have trouble connecting to some web sites.

If you are the owner of this computer and installed this program, I would suggest disabling it temporarily to see whether your problems persist.

Whether they do or not, post a fresh HijackThis log along with the results of this test.

I've just started having this problem and its killing me.

I have 2 computers. My server is running windows 2000 server, and the secondary computer is running xp Pro.

The internet was working fine on my secondary computer, and then one day, it just started becoming slow, and it would not load pages (images wouldn't fully load, some pages wouldn't load at all). If i type in a url in the address bar for IE it would load the page quickly (probably from cache), but then proceeding to click links would cause "Page not found" or "timed out" errors.

I know that i can reach these sites, i ping them and get normal responses. It seems that IE is just not displaying them properly or something. The internet on my server computer works perfectly fine.

I have 2 nic cards in the server computer, 1 recieving the cable modem, and one receiving a LAN cable from my Hub.

Anybody have any ideas? Like i said, it worked on my secondary cmputer before. Also, i hooked up another computer to my hub and the internet was working fine, and then i installed Service Pack 3 and it started crapping out like mentioned above.

This is driving me NUTS!! ahhh. please help.

Thanks
