I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I bought a 2-pack of USB-C to HDMI adapters (Amazon item B07JH8DM12) to connect a third monitor to the machine. They did not work. Is there a known inexpensive item to allow a third monitor output through the USB-C port?

Hi All, I have a M920s that has 2 display ports and 1 VGA. I am trying to utilise up to 3 displays on this but it seems as though it only supports 1 screen which seems absurd given it has the ports. In Windows it just see's one of the display ports screens plugged in. I checked the BIOS, and cannot see 'multiple display support'. It has the latest BIOS. any ideas? thanks in advance!

I have an M920s purchased in March 2019 and it came installed with some DVD drive software (Power 2 Go and PowerDVD).  I want to reset the system (reinstall Windows and remove all existing files), but want to reinstall the factory software included.  I have been unable to find a clear answer to this question.  Does anyone know how I get the installers for the factory preinstalled software? Thank you

 I recieved my new ThinkCentre M920s and noticed two defects shown above in the photos:- 1. The headphone jack appears pushed to the side with a sharp copper wire sticking out of the hole 2. The vent to the right appears bent and misshapen My question is, am I being too picky about build quality or are these legitimate issues? Are they even issues at all actually or is there a legitimate reason that a sharp copper wire should be to the side of the headphone jack? Is the vent to the right bent and misshapen or is it supposed to be "curved" or something? I spent over 1250 ($1630 American) on just the tower alone, so I expected a premium product. Thoughts appreciated!

Just received the new M910s SFF machine I purchased a few weeks back from Allstarshop.com (because Lenovo was "sold out" and not even accepting orders for them at that time). I had also bought some extra "add-on" hardware parts from online retailers, expecting no problem at all installing them.  Note that I checked again today, and Lenovo is once again accepting orders for the M910s SFF machines.  So that problem is behind us.
 
Well... surprise. I had unexpected problems and trouble with 2 out of the 3 add-on hardware items I bought for the M910s, so I wanted to share my experience to give others who might have a similar project in the works a heads-up.
 
(1) The 10MK000QUS Kaby Lake i5-7500 machine was factory configured with 1x8GB of DDR4-2400 memory, Win10 x64 Pro, 1TB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA3 HDD, and optical CD/DVD drive.
 
(2) I added an additional 1x8GB of matching DDR4-2400 memory purchased from Crucial.  No problem.  Works perfectly, and the machine is now 2x8GB=16GB operating in dual-channel mode as expected.
 
(3) I had purchased a Gigabyte low-profile GTX-1050ti graphics card for use in the new machine, not expecting any problems. Well, it turns out there IS a problem, because this card at a length of 6.57" (167mm) is just bit too long.  The swing-up drive bay assembly inside the SFF case doesn't quite have the needed <167mm clearance in order to close properly with the graphics card installed.  It needs maybe just a... Remarkably, the "local express" delivery from Newegg got here about noon!  Amazing.
 
But sadly, the Zotac 1050ti card which was 160mm (6.3") in length is STILL TOO LONG.
 
So, much to my disappointment, it appears Lenovo has reduced the internal space in these new SFF cases, making it just about impossible to use almost all graphics cards.  I have installed Sapphire R7-250 low-profile / HD7750 cards in multiple M93p SFF and M800 SFF machines, and had no problem whatsoever, even though that card is 170mm (6.7").
 
Obviously the previous generation of SFF cases simply was larger.  The SFF cases now being used for the M910s are just too small.  If I'd known this I probably would have gone with the tower machine, if only to be able to use my intended GTX 1050ti graphics card (which could have been full-size in the tower).
 
Anyway, I've now ordered a lesser graphics card than I'd intended, the MSI version of the low-profile GTX 750ti. because it's length is only 5.75" (146mm), which absolutely will fit.  But this card only has DVI and HDMI connections, thus lacking a DisplayPort connector.  It's also only 2GB of DDR5 memory instead of 4GB as in the 1050ti, and with a slower core clock speed.  Bandwidth is 86GB/s vs. 112GB/s for the 1050ti.  Thankfully, there is at least one of these relatively modern DDR5 cards which is short enough to fit even if it's not the 1050ti.

I was finally able to find a proper card that fits the M910 SFF.

This is the only card currently on the market the supports the latest HTPC 4K/8K specification (H feature set: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_PureVideo) and its size is small and short enough to be installed inside M910 SFF.
It is also only 30W TDP, which is just a bit more than the original Nvidia GT 730 that was pre-installed.
Quite happy with this awesome system.

Mod:  since the M710s uses the same case, this particular Gigabyte GT 1030 will also fit it (other GT 1030 models, at this time, are too long.)  Topic also applies to the M720s and M920s as they use the same case.

I would recommend that you'd best prepare yourself to be disappointed with your "coming soon" M910s SFF machine, in that I am at least reasonably skeptical that there is sufficient "clearance" for almost any "modern" decent add-on graphics card which can fit inside the newly narrowed (i.e. the SFF case is now shortened front-to-rear by almost 4" from all previous SFF cases) SFF case.  The 4" reduction essentially reduces the interior expansion card clearance by 4", i.e. similarly reducing the new maximum size card length that can be used in the M910s.
 
You should read this thread of mine which I posted a few months back regarding these very issues with an M910s SFF I'd ordered and three different graphics cards I tried to install, but all of which would not fit.  I believe the new maximum size expansion card is only around 5.75", whereas with all previous SFF cases you could install a card that was probably up to 6.8" without an issue.  Most graphics cards are 6.25" - 6.75" and as long as they are low-profile they can all be used.
 
No longer.  I think the maximum length card is now about 5.75".  And your GT1030 is 5.9" long and 2.7" tall.  Doesn't sound like much of a difference, but it just might be the straw that broke the camel's back.
 
The problem is the swing-up/down drive bay assembly inside the SFF case, which in its full "snapped down/closed/locked" position has to clear the end of the expansion graphics card.  With... Read more

i currently have a dell Inspiron 5558 laptop for over an year now but the screen stop working over 6 months ago, i looked up the warranty information at the time of screen stopped working and was re-assured that it showed February 18, 2017 therefore i did not consider that it is very urgent to call tech support since i have other laptops. today when i call the support service, i was informed that product was not registered and i have to pay $233 to replace the LCD screen, they still argued that dell warranty website showed the correct information but when i looked it up, the website still displays the same.  did anyone else encounter this issue??

I keep receiving calls from fake MICROSOFT Tech support with various telephone numbers. Strange, they do not show up in my phone on line logs. They wanted me to go to FASTSUPPORT\763721586 ( do not use  these numbers). It is a company  called FASTSUPPORT.com. they also give you a complaint department where you can enter the number that you feel is causing you problems, the number of the LOGMEINRESCUE type remote access code. of course it is clear to them that you are suspicious and they will get rid of the  phone operator who didn't succeed. So do not bother to leave any complaint.

I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning  Thinkpad.  I have had 8 thinkpad  series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's.  Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now.  I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem. 
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.  
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP

I paid for 3 years of support and accidental damage in home support. Together, it cost around $400 on my new XPS laptop. Afew months after I bought XPS 15 9560, I pulled out the charging cord, and a round piece of plastic that was inside the port came out too.
I called technical support at 5 pm EST, and received someone in Southern India. I gave them my information, and they confirmed that I had service. They then fought with me for 15 minutes, telling me I could NOT have any in home service. The representative, who kept calling me by my first name (no respect)  said I had to send my laptop to a depot in Texas for them to identify the issue. Finally, after I insisted, the representative, S. Sirya Kiran, FINALLY allowed me to get in home support IF I sent him photos of the damage. I did. Finally, I received an email telling me to select a date for service, which I did, 12/18/17 between 9 am and 1:00 pm .
I took time off and waited. No one came by 11:30, or called. So I contacted World Wide Tech Services. They then told me they didn't have enough techs to handle my area, so they were NOT coming. I asked why no one gave me the courtesy of a phone call and they had no answer. They said a new company, Unisys, would contact me. (I doubt they ever will.)
Is this what Dell gives people for their money as far as support and accidental damage in home service for $400? This is an outrage.

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

This is a General question regarding the end of support for XP. I realise at the end date the computer should be backed up in case you have to format the disc at any time after the end of the support period.

My question is does the built in Windows back up in XP when backing up the system include the installed updates? Or is it best to use third party software to do this.

I believe Windows just backs up your personal files and won't do the entire OS. You'll need a 3rd party program to do the entire HDD.

Also you really should think about upgrading to Windows 7. Staying on XP after the end support date is not recommended as you will lose security updates from Microsoft as well as patches.

When I installed Win8 on one computer I need a H.P. printer driver. So I went to H.P. support/download did not find the needed driver so I called their Tech. support. A friendly support guy looked at my system and told me my copy of Microsoft Win8 bought at Best Buy was not a legit copy, also my system had been infected and they needed to remove my Win8 clean my system and reinstall Win8. made me a deal of a reduced price of $250US I knew this was not right so I begged them good buy went to Best Buy where I have good friends in the Geek Squad. they got the needed driver and printer works fine.
Today my Netgear routher died, called Netgear to get my lifetime warranty. This also was a support in India guy said it would cost $39US to make sure it was the router I said thanks but no thanks. Took my old Netgear router back to Best Bye where I bought it three years ago and they gave me a new Netgear router. I needed setup help so called Netger as new user also in India guy was friendly looked at my system and helped me get it setup. Then he informed me my computer was under attack and my files were being read he could fix my system and protect my files for the small sum of just $85US. Well I was using a small backup H.P. computer on the Net. hardwired and it was almost never used. So I knew it was a India Tech. support scam again.

Some how my old friend managed to upgrade my PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 with that chipset driver CD I gave him. I don't know how he did it. I would ask him but he moved to Germany. Anyway I've heard you can run the setup with Windwos Vista compatiblity mode but I don't know if it is safe. Anyone know?

Download the drivers from the manufacturers website. The driver CD is likely outdated anyway.

I have a Thinkpad T450s and it is just over a year old. It still has 3 more years of warranty. Recently the lenovo solution center gave an critical error for the HDD (Read test failure) and I submitted an online request reporting it. Without even sending me an email or contacting me, they sent me a new part and gave me zero information about it. Apparently every other person can replace a HDD now! I have created 3 more cases calling their tech support to send the laptop for a depo repair. Everytime the request is rejected 'at the vendor' according to the customer care. Neither the customer care people or tech support can tell me why. Every time they create a new case, tell me I will receive a depo bag nect day, and I dont receive anything, have to call depo customer care and on hold for minimum 40 minutes, only to hear that the case has been rejected they dont know why.One tech support told me now I have to send the new part back before creating a new case, otherwise it will be rejected again. but he does not know how I can send the new part back. The return label sent to me was for the faulty HDD.Can anyone help? What is the point of paying for warranty if I receive this type of service?

My PC Dell Aurora R4 won't update properly due to it not being on the list of windows 10  creator supported drivers PC from dell. Does anyone one know if dell is going to correct this matter.
This is urgent as this leaves me as a customer vulnerable, due to the W10 System of queuing downloads and there is a security one that is waiting.
I have checked directly with Microsoft Technicians and they confirm this is the issue "No Driver support for Aurora R4 Listed, W10  Creators edition. Can dell Update an then inform us a the machines cost a pretty penny and are meant to be future proofed with drivers even without a warranty. Thank you. hello to everyone!!

im working as a tech support agent for one of the biggest ISP in the US.. its a good paying job and also very challenging.. i use to troubleshoot internet connection issues for residential accounts (1 pc only) and for all other issues that i get, i browse for similar issues on the forums of this site.. well, most of them came pretty handy (esp for the security forums).. now, i got transferred to the networking department and im in a total loss!! i can do simple troubleshooting and install assists for new networking users but i really need help in issues like:
1. remote access/ port forwarding
2. invalid IP addresses on the wireless devices
3. file and printer sharing
i was browsing through all the topics but i cant find any.. if there is someone out there who can help me with this issue and give me some pointers on how i am going to do this in an easier way.. i would really appreciate any assistance..

I think the revamped Support Assistant is brilliant - especially for drivers where it checks your PC, rather than give you a list of driver updates for your model, as the old website-based Driver Update checker did. It has an "Add a device" facility but it doesn't find my HP DCP_J315W printer, connected via wireless. Does Support Assistant support printers? edited 08:07: typo

Dell Support "Assist" just ran without giving me an option to stop, pause, or control in anyway.  It was using nearly all computer resources (I could barely save the word document I had open at the time).  This isn't "assist" more like computer take over.

How can I control the S. "Assist"?  How can I adjust the time between it's runs (currently it looks like monthly)?  After finishing it's scan or whatever it finally closed (cuz it wouldn't close the 20 times or so I clicked the "X").  I then opened it, looking for some results of the scan, and found none.  How can I view results?

Right now, seems like worthless bloatware.

Also, there is not a [New Post] button on the Laptop Forum (at least for me).

After having been in touch with Dell support for nearly three months, I decided to recount my experiences here, mainly to provide insights for future Dell customers as to what their rights are, and to provide tips on how to effectively contact tech support.
I hope this guide can be of use for people struggling with their purchase as much as I did (and in fact, continue to).

So I purchased a new T470s in December. After a few months, started having intermitent wi-fi, keyboard, and WWAN issues. Created support ticket was relatively easy. Spent an hour on the phone and got the RMA. Thought to myself that was easy. Next day box showed up to ship laptop back. Told me I'd have it back in 7 days.  Seven days later I go online and see it's listed as "Waiting on Customer". No big deal I thought, I'll call and straighten it out. After spending a total of 6 hours over the next 7 days trying to get in touch with someone at the Depot (an impossible task so I quickly learned), finally spoke a person. He asked me some more questions, and released the laptop from hold. A few days later I see that it is now in parts hold. Ok, I'm still patient, after several more days, we are now a long way off from seven days I originally was told. I'm still optimistic and wait it out. Finally on May 2nd my laptop showed up. It said it had a new keyboard, main board, and wifi module. I was thankful it was fixed, or so I've thought. Jump to two days later, and my wi-fi and WWAN are still intermittent at best. Running continuous pings to google and my wifi AP I have one time out from every four pings, which is enough to throughly anger Google Chrome and dramitcally kills any download speeds. So now I am torn, do I invest another month, and 10 plus hours of phone time for another repair, or do I bite the bullet and buy a new HP and count the Lenovo as a lesson learn...
