I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What are the specifications of your Z710?How much Watts does your AC adapter have? You should have at least a 90W (dual core) or 135W (quad core) AC adapter.Maybe you need a new AC adapter if it's faulty.

Can this laptop be run from a 24V supply, too?Or is that voltage too high?(Two 12V batteries i series)

A:Power supply for IdeaPad Z710

The battery voltage and power supply voltage have nothing to do with each other. It has integrated voltage regulation modules that convert the voltage to the required voltages to power the device and simultaneously drive the battery. The voltage has to match with what the input is designed for, and that is 20V in the Z710. The amperage can basically be higher than required as the devices request an amperage and use how much they need (for the Z710 type 80AK, there were three power supplies: 20V on each, but with either 3.25, 4.5 or 6.75 Amps for 65, 90 or 130 Watts power output), but a differing voltage (unless your device is made for special fast charging types oder mostly USB Type-C, which most laptops aren't) will most likely fry your motherboard/batteries. By the way, the batteries in your Z710 run at either 14.4 or 14.8 Volts, not 12V.

I have a 20 pin motherboard but the power supply I have available has a 24 pin connector. I've read that you can simply plug them together by offsetting the 24 pin one but so far I don't see that working at all (and 'never the twain shall meet', so to speak). I've found adapters but they all say something akin to

'allows you to connect your existing 20 pin power supply to your new 24-pin compatible motherboard'

You can use it the other way around, correct?

thanks

A:20 to 24 pin power supply adapter

Some mainboard connectors are 20+4 pins where the 4 pins unsnap from the 20 pins for use with boards with a 20 pin connector. If your power supply doesn't have that feature you would use an adapter such as this.

I have just received this laptop. I followed the instructions out of the box, installing the battery, then connecting the power. The battery started charging that first time, but after that, any time I tried reconnecting the A/C power supply, the laptop would not recognize the adapter and I am not able to charge my battery.  I have tried the following steps: 1. Shutting down the computer, removing the battery, and starting the computer from the A/C power supply. The computer will not recognize the A/C power supply to turn on the computer. 2. Updating all the power management drivers. Everything was already installed properly. 3. Using the Lenovo Energy Management battery gauge. I must have the A/C power supply plugged in to use it, but the computer still won't recognize it. 4. Held down the power button for 30-40 seconds then reset the BIOS to default settings. No change 5. Tested my outlets and connections between my AC adapter cords.  Everything is working properly. There is one way that I can get the computer to recognize the AC adapter, and that involves all of these steps shown below, but when I unplug the AC adapter I am right back to the beginning, and I have to redo the whole process. I have just received this laptop and I am quite sure that you shouldn't have to go through this process every time you want to recharge the battery, or use your computer while only powered by the AC adapter. ... Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Doing charge cycles of full to empty can be hard on a laptop battery.  If you are going to have the laptop plugged in and you will be working on it for a extended period of time then why not take advantage of the Conservation Mode option that the Lenovo Settings app has to offer.  With the Conservation Mode enabled it will maintain your battery's charge in the 55 to 60% range rather than continually charging it to 100%.  This will help extend the overall life of the battery.  In the event you can foresee the need to go portable then switch the Conservation Mode Off and let it fully charge.

I have recently rescued a 15 inch viewsonic lcd monitor from being trashed at my work. I did not find the ac adapter for it and would like to use one of my old PSU's to run it. Since the power requirements for the monitor are 12.0V 3Amp, I assume I can just use the 12.0V rail on a standard PSU and attach a tip to it (which I have from a broken universal wall-wort). Will this work? Can't I use any power supply/ac adapter that is capable of supplying 3Amps or more of current as long as it is 12.0V? Thanks in advance.

BTW...I did try a duracell battery charger ac adapter that ran at 12.0V and 2.5A for a short period (as to not damage the ac adapter) and found that the monitor works fine (just has a little fraying on the VGA cable). So I know it is worth converting a supply for it.

A:Use a Comp Power Supply as an ac adapter?

A 12-volt supply capable of 3 amps or more is all you need. Just be sure the polarity is right.

I have a 12-port network switch in my shop that's been running off a 5-volt leg of an old computer power supply for several years. At the time, the manufacturer wanted as much for the power supply as I paid for the entire switch and power supply the year before. Old computer power supplies are plentiful around here.

My internet setup is as follows:

Internet > wireless > 4G router > wireless > Main Router > PC (wired) and other devices (wireless)

As you can see the Main Router (which I connect all of my devices to, because it's faster in terms of internal network speeds and has a longer WI-FI range) connects to the 4G router (which is the access point to the Internet) wirelessly.

I want both routers to be wired. However, the 4G router has only a single Micro USB port which also acts as a power supply and the Main Router has no USB ports.

So what sort of (Micro) USB to Ethernet adapter should I buy (suggestions from experience welcome)?

Is it possible to transfer power from the Main Router through its Ethernet port?

If I use an adapter with a separate power supply, will it supply the 4G router through the Micro USB port?

Models:
Main Router: Tenda W308R
4G Router: Is an Infomark Biscuit Mini provided and customized by my ISP.

Hi

Am looking for an adapter that will fit a Sony pcv v1/g computer 18 pin motherboard PS connection to a 20 pin normal PS.

It seems difficult to find a replacement PS - Sony only supply registered repairers (any ideas?)

So I hope to use a normal PS, that could have an adapter from 20 pins down to 18 pins - would this work - or would I blow it up ?

Thanks

A:Ideapad Y510P fail to open with AC power supply

Hi Kaney510p,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can follow the "Power Checkout Guidelines" from the hardware manual here on page 21-22.

Without the battery and directly plugging the AC charger should allow you to power on the machine, else would indicate systemboard issue. Before jumping on probable motherboard replacement other parts may also be considered like DC in port, board and cable.

Otherwise, try to double check the AC charger integrity as described in the manual (Checking the AC adapter page 21) using a volt meter or better yet with a compatible charger like a universal charger.  Using the same charger on a different device can be done alternatively.

Use the laptop with only the battery until it is drained to 20%.
With the battery drained should show blinking amber on the battery indicator.
Connect the charger for 2-3 hours taking note of the battery indicator (without powering the laptop.
This should change from initial blinking amber to white as a normal operational charging.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi all. I'd like to use this Dell power supply I already ownhttps://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/accessories/apd/492-bbho With my X1 Carbon 6th gen. The Dell power supply output is rated 19.5V, while (afaik) USB-C charging uses 20V. I have no idea whether this could be a problem. Any suggestons? Can I trust it? Thanks.

I am writing this from my desktop. I just got a new HP Laptop (Pavilion) which came with a 45W power adapter. The power cord section (which plugs into the adapter) is shorter than the one on my older HP Laptop (G60-63OUS Notebook). I would like to have a longer power cord section or, in the alternative, could I/should I use an extension cord to reach the wall outlet I want to use. The older laptop has a 65w power adapter. I have 2 questions:

#1 - Can the power cord section from the 65w adapter be used in place of the one that came with the new laptop? I would, in effect, be mixing the two because the 65w adapter plug is too big for the hole on the laptop.

#2 - Can I get a higher power adapter for the new laptop or should I leave it alone?
Another question I have is regarding the use of cordless earphones to watch TV while working on the laptop. When the laptop is plugged in (to recharge the battery), I get static noise in my left ear. When on battery only, there is no noise. Is there a solution to this?

A:Laptop AC Power Supply Cord and Adapter

#1 Yes, if the older adapter's power cord fits into the new adapter you can use it.

#2 There's no need to get a more powerful adapter, the new laptop must not need as much power as the old one.

The situation: Dell Inspiron 600M. Laptop won't turn on, when I press the power button, no response (at all). I think it's either the power supply or the adapter. The only reason I think it is the adapter is because the green LED doesn't come on, but the user said it hadn't been coming on for some time before the laptop stopped working altogether. The user has already gotten a new computer and really only cares about the data. I'm trying to decide the best direction to go: Adapter or SATA/ATA to USB converter? I'm pretty set on the converter, but want to make sure I won't have to reformat the HD for it to work with the adapter. I think the laptop has a PATA HD connection. Will it work on most of the converters?
Another side note: I have had no success yet finding another adapter that worked. I did try an adapter for an Inspiron e1705 (90W) and when I plugged it in it reset the adapter. I thought the adapter for the 600M was also 90, but I guess not.

I bought my TravelMate 4260 in 2007, so almost 9 years old, but still working fine, except I have changed a screen and power supply adapter. Yesterday, the adapter went out of order again. Dear community, After 15 months of usage, my Ideapad 100s' batteries did the "balloon stunt". For now, I disposed of the swollen battery pack and consider whether I want repair/a new battery pack. In the meanwhile, it would be nice if I could use the notebook via the mains power only - but it won't turn on. Would anyone perchance know, whether the Ideapad 100s could - at least in principle - run in the absence of a battery pack via its (5V 4amp) external power supply, assuming that all other components are present and functional? Or does the Ideapad 100s run exclusively from the battery in any circumstance? (If it should be able to run from the mains, it might be worthwhile to look for a different power supply.) Thank you very much for your help! Best, Martin

Now what? Would you experts trust this drive with a new power supply? Or should I crack it open and put the actual drive into a new enclosure? i feel like a hard drive I can't trust is useless to me. Am I too paranoid? Your opinions here will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, My new laptop came with a faulty AC adapter (model ADLX65CDGE2A), and in order to get it replaced I'd have to send my laptop along the adapter, which I don't want to (if any are wondering, emag.ro is where I bought it from).Anyway, I've been looking to buy a replacement AC adapter but everything I got is 2.25A - the original says it's 3.25A, same voltage, 20V). More than that, almost (if not) all Lenovo AC adapters are 2.25A - talking about those in Romanian stores. Now, my question is: does anyone have this model with a 2.25A AC adapter? Eventually by default?I know it's a matter of charging time - I've got an iphone which I'm charging with the iPad AC adapter because it charges faster - but does it actually decrease battery life? That's all I'm worried about.Thank you in advance! Alex

For the last two weeks, every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E1705 while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message. "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation". I press the F1 Key and everything works fine. I've read about this on other websites and most say it's a design flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed. Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands become broken and cause this message. My computer is from June 2006 and shouldn't be having this issue so early...or ever. This seems like a flaw that should have created some type of manufacturers recall since so many people are having this issue. I'm of course out of warranty, will Dell replace this free of charge?

`

A:Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....."

You are correct, the failure is due toloss of the power supply ID signal. Sometimes this happens because of strain on the plug, which breaks the signal wire. Some even are so severe that the insulation breaks away from the plug; this is due to rough handling. The other cause is one or more of the power socket solder connections to the system board become broken. This also is related to severe handling. I have seen one case where all three power connections and three of four mechanical connections were disconnected. If the power supply is bad, a replacement will cure the problem. If not, then the socket is bad, and this will require a system board replacement. If you are experienced, you can try to resolder the connections. I am experienced and was not able to get my daughter's E6000 to work by resoldered. More recent Dells are using a replacable power connection board which is a much cheaper repair.

I tried to underclock CPU down to 2.4GHz but still reaches 85C and GPU still throttles as well. So I am thinking of two options:1) Buy a laptop cooling pad and put it under the exposed underside of the laptop and hope that it can cool it down.2)Replace the thermal paste of the CPU and GPU (boy oh boy how sketchy this one is, but exciting at the same time!) and hope for the best? I am looking for your advice on which of these I should choose or if there is anything I am missing? Thank you in advance!

Hi! When I start my laptop, I get this message "EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (54-BE-F7-53-1F-14) boot failed". The laptop is 4 months old. How would I get it to work again? pls!

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Z710 Laptop is not booting to Windows and displaying initial error, I suggest you to access the BIOS menu and change the first boot device to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and check if the issue persists. To access BIOS menu turn OFF the computer and then press the NOVO button which is located beside the power button and select BIOS utility, then under boot menu change the HDD to first boot device under boot order. Now click on F10 to save the changes.

Do post us back if the issue persists

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

I'm trying to Install Debian GNU/Linux on my Windows 8 Ideapad Z710, and I can't even get my laptop to boot from external media. From the InsydeH20 Setup Utility, I've so far disabled Secure Boot, set Boot Mode to UEFI, enabled USB Boot, enabled PXE Boot to LAN, and set my EFI boot order to 1) EFI Network 0 for IPv4, 2) EFI Network 0 for IPv6, then 3) Windows Boot Manager (no other options). I'm not actually trying to boot from a network, I just want to boot from the onboard DVD drive or my USB DVD drive. When I boot with these settings, I get the error: EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (...) boot failed, then a similar one for IPv6, then it boots to Windows. Why can't I boot from DVD or USB? Another thing I've tried is setting Boot Mode to Legacy Support and Boot Priority to Legacy First (with Secure Boot disabled) which results in my laptop booting to straight to Windows even when USB ODD is first in the boot order. Please tell me how to boot to a Linux DVD or USB on this machine! This was major purchase for me, and if I can't install Linux on it, this laptop is totally useless for me. Please respond.

Hi to evreyone! So recently I bought a brand new Lenovo Z710 (i7-4700mq, intel hd 4600 and nvidia gt745m). I then installed windows 8.1 (genuine) and all the drivers on the cd that came with the machine. But it seems there is a big problem with the graphics card. Nvidia gt745 seems like its not there. The Geforce Experience and nvidia control panel fail to recognize it, although it's there on Windows Driver Manager. When I try to load a game (WOW) it crashes on the loading screen. "Display driver has stopped responding..." bubble appears and a minute or so afterwards, there is a bsod. The game works on the integrated card (intel hd 4600) when nvidia is disabled or its driver is uninstalled.I tried reinstalling the drivers, downloading and installing the recent ones, removing all graphic drivers and reintalling them in different order, tried safe mode, changed some bios settings, but still nothing happened.Could this be any kind of driver compatibility issue or simply a windows thing, or is it a hardware problem? Could the nvidia be faulty or the laptop itself? I want to try anything before turning it back to where I bought it for a look... So your ideas will be vastly appreciated. Thanks!

My Lenovo ideapad Z710, after a year of use started telling me the battery was not the correct battery.  I thought the battery might have died.  I eventually bought a replacement battery.  The new battery gets the same message.  My wife has a different model but uses the same battery.  My OEM battery does not function in her machine but the new one does.  So it appears that my machine has a problem recognizing the proper battery.  Once I accept the message, the machine boots and runs fine plugged in.  The battery does not charge so I assume the machine is protecting itself from improper battery.  The new battery is a DR.BATTERY Notebook battery with a two year warranty.  When I was shopping for the battery, there were numerous suppliers and of course they all claimed to have only the highest quality that meets or exceeds the original battery specs. Does anyone know a solution?  Could it be a software problem?  I had assumed it was a hardware problem.  The computer works fine as desktop machine, but with no battery it is pretty worthless as a portable.

Hi everybody, I have the plan to connect a 4k Monitor to my current Z710 Ideapad. As the laptop comes with the GeForce GT745M, which supports resolutions up to 3840x2160 I don't see any bottle neck here. For your reference: Specs of the GT745Mhttps://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-745m/specifications But how about the HDMI socket? WIth what kind of HDMI Port comes the Z710? v1.0 or v1.4, v1,4a?That's very important to know and unfortantely I couldn't find anything about it in the manual of the Z710 Ideapad. Thanks in advance for your help, Kind regards,Michael
