Q: Filtering address list in Publisher 2000

Filtering the address list in Pub 2000 does not seem to work. I can enter a text (word) for filtering but when I print the list the filtered items are there. My process is, e.g., select filter TAB in Filtering and Sorting, select Title under Field, select is equal to under Comparison, and enter Mister in Compare to window. Then click OK. Mister is entered in the Title area of addresses to be Filtered. But, when the addresses are printed out the Filtered addresses are printed out too. What is my problem and solution?

Just recently upgraded from Ex5.5 to Ex2000.

Is there a way to change the format of the Global Address List from (First Name - Last Name) to (Last Name, First Name) other than using a utility from Ex2000 resource kit?

The AD on the W2k server was initially set with the FN - LN format. We have changed the format when adding new users, but have not been able to globally change existing users.

I have had AT&T Uverse that came with a 2Wire 3800HGV-B Gateway for about a year now. I enabled MAC Filtering and entered all my home computer's MAC Addresses. About six months ago my brother tried to connect his work laptop to my wireless network but it would not connect until I added its MAC Address. For this past Christmas, I bought a new HP laptop running Windows 7 (64-bit). To my surprise before I had registered its MAC Address, I was able to connect to my wireless network and surf the Internet. I checked and MAC Filtering was enabled. I diabled and re-enabled. I rebooted the wireless gateway several times and still I was able to connect with this new laptop even though its MAC Address had not been registered. I removed an existing registered MAC Address and again to my surprise I was able to connect to my wireless network and surf the Internet despite its MAC Address had been removed completely or moved to the Block area. I showed this to my work Sr. Network Admin and he found nothing wrong. I have asked AT&T Support but so far no response. I doubt it is a hardware issue. I think it is the firmware. I am at the latest version of the firmware. I think I may need to re-flash the firmware. Since I do not techically own this gateway device, I am reluctant to do anything without AT&T approval. I did try contacting the gateway manufacturer 2Wire but they refuse to help me and directed me to contact AT&T. I am using WPA2-PSK with AES. Anyone have any sugge... Read more

I need assistance in converting a few Publisher 2003 documents to Publisher 2000 format. I was sent these document by someone to use on a webpage but cannot see them because I only have Publisher 2000. Unforunately, I have been unable to contact this person to get them converted. Is anyone, preferably a Moderator, able to assist me by converting these files and sending them back to me.

Given the above example using Excel, I created a drop down list using Data Validation in A1 where you can select X, Y or Z. Is there a way that when I select "X" from the list only the cells that are "X" show up (In the above example it would be only A2 & A5 show up). Also is it possible to do this with multiple columns? If I select X from the list and then decide I want to see all X on Saturday, could that be possible?

Hi defscarlett,
If I understand your description correctly, you should be able to do this with filtering - no drop down validation necessary.

You don't say what version of Excel you're using, but if you're using 2007 or later, on the Home tab there's a button for Sort and Filter on the far right. If you choose filters, you'll get little arrows next to all of your columns. You can drop those down to select the criteria you want, and you can do it for multiple columns.

The (originally unix) tool sed will make quick work of your text file, but its syntax is not exactly user friendly. You can download sed for windows from here. The link also includes links to various tutorials.

I am a relative beginner with Excel.
Latest problem:
I have a list of over 50,000 phone no's with other data.
Phone no's are in one column, but up to 10% are invalid because they have fewer than the required no of dogits.
In this case, for mobile ph. no's (beginning with leading zero), the 10 digits are usually formatted:
(example) 0412 369 852.
I could easily change the format to eliminate the spaces:
How do I "filter out" the invalid no's with less than 10 digits?

I first would probably find and replace all the spaces in that column. Find the spaces and basically leave the replace section blank. I then would add another column to your excel spreadsheet which will have the LEN() function in it. This will check the number of characters in the other column. You can then sort the new column and weed out the numbers that are wrong. If you want to restrict the format they type the phone numbers in then I might recommend you convert this over to an MS Access database and use the input mask to restrict formatting.

I have a Belkin Wireless Router with modem (product = ADSL+2 modem with wireless G router F5D7632-4). I have 4 computers connected to it. 2 wirelessly and 2 hardwired.

I want to turn on MAC Address filtering as part of increasing security of the network. The router will does not appear to give the choice of what MAC Addresses are filtered - it's all or none. However one of the hardwired computers does not display a MAC address or anything else when connected to the router even though it is able to connect to the internet. When I turn on MAC filtering it is no longer able to connect. Any idea's on

a) why it's not appearing in DHCP client list or the MAC filtering page
b) what I should do about it.

There should be an option to manually enter your PC's MAC addresses in to allow them to connect securely.
Try statically assigning a PC an IP address through the DHCP scope. Perhaps that might help your PC identify the PC via it's MAC address.

I have family members who arent very computer savvy but somehow get to the sites they shouldnt have, like to click on links they dont even understand (thus gets infected with viruses etc).
I set up a limited windows 7 account for them, browser of choice is IE9, and I need software where I can make list of safe sites they can visit. all other sites should be blocked until added to that list.
As I said before they arent very computer savvy so I dont need something that is hack proof or anything.

there is microsoft Family Safety in windows live essentials is that any good for this purpose?
is there any alternatives? free or relatively cheap.

There's a nice little app called Qustodio that is free but is a complete parental control app and has features that beat the paid apps hands down. You will be able to block the sites automatically as also watch what they download or install. It also has a reporting feature using which you will be able to view the data for the past 30 days.

good morning everyone, i am new here and searching for some assistance,
i have a small network (fortigate 50B, server, dlink switch)
its not me who installed this network, and seems that the one who did, made mac address filtering, he blocked internet and only allowed outlook use, except some users who can use the internet normally, everything is working fine using network cables,
i added a linksys WAG320n and i disabled its DHCP, now and user that connect to it can only get outlook, no internet, and that's normal, but the issue is that users who had access to internet before, when they connect to the linksys they cant use internet and also cant use outlook, if i put back on network cable everything work fine,
can anyone help me with this issue !!!

HII have a Toshiba laptop with windows Vista and have just bought an HP Photosmart B110 wireless scanner printer. Cannot set up the wireless connection, keep going round in circles, getting an error saying MAC address filtering is enabled and preventing the connection. I cannot find out how to get around it . Hi:  Look at your printer documentation. There should be a setting in your wireless menu that will give you the wireless printer's MAC address. It will be a 12 character string separated by colons.  For example 0B:14:0E:23:FB:2C. Then once you have those 12 alpha-numeric characters, you log into your router's wireless configuration menu. There will be a menu tab enabled Wireless MAC Filtering. Go into that menu and add those 12 characters into the list of MAC addresses already in there and save it. Exit your router setup menu, and you should be good to go. Paul

There are several questions in the area of mine, but not quite. I have developed an application for archiving contract documents. This will many network users and I would like them to be able to work completely from within the user form. I have created three buttons for them to locate specific documents:

1. Search - with the action command of Filter by Form
2. Apply Search - with the Apply Filter command
3. RESET - with the Remove Filter command

Search and RESET work fine. However, but I click Search button the form properly goes into the Filter by Form mode and disables all the buttons on the form so that after selection the filter parameters I cannot use the Apply Search button and must use the Funnel button in the toolbar to complete the search sequence. Any suggestions? Thanks.

OK. This is driving me crazy. Using Active Directory I created a Global Security group. I also tried Global Distribution group. Neither of them are showing in my Global Address book. What am I missing?

In the design of your query you will need to use "or" in order to receive mutliple dates. For example if you would like to see calls made on June 23 and calls made on June 5 and calls made between May 15 and May31 the criteria would state #06/23/03# OR #06/05/03# OR >#05/15/03 AND<#05/31/03#.

I tried to send an attachment with an example of the query in design view but it wouldn't send for some reason. Anyway, hope this helps!

Is there a way to open a Publisher 2000 file with another version of Publisher 2000? I created a file and try to open it with Publisher 2000 (apparently, another version) and I get a message stating that it cannot be opened from another Publisher version.
Any help is appreciated.

I'm not questioning you, really I'm not, but . . .

Are you SURE that you created it in one version, and trying to open it in the same version??

You would get this message if you created a publisher file in 2000 and tried to open it in 98. Or created it in 2003 and tried to open it in 2000.

Normally, in 2000 or 2003 versions, I would suggest opening the file in the most recent Publisher, and then Save As an earlier version.

I have some Publisher files that I created in the mid-90s with whatever version of Publisher I had at the time. I have recently been able to open these files in Win98 using Publisher 2000, with no problem. Last week I installed XP and when I go to open some of the Publisher files in Publisher 2000, I get a message saying that some of the fonts are no longer available. This is nothing new, as it happened in Win98, but then the file would open with a default font in place of the ones that were not available. However, in XP, when I open a file that has the font dialogue box, it will not open the file and the program wants to shut down. It does not do this on files I open where there is no issue with the fonts... any ideas?

I am using MS publisher to put together a web page. There are a couple of links on the pages. When I upload the pages to the server, the links have been changed to tie back to the files on my computer as opposed to the files on a distant server. I have looked at the help in MS, and I can not find any reference to this problem. XP SP2 Home 2002 Edition virus and malware free computer.

Just finished reinstalling Microsoft Office 2000 after having vbscript and jscript.dll issues that the people here were so kind to help with (jscript.dll still won't register, but that's still in the other thread).

Now, after a seemingly successful reinstallation of Microsoft Office 2000, Publisher (which I use for work all the time) won't work without the cd. The Installer wants to install it. I tried reinstalling and repairing to no avail. Everytime I click on the Publisher icon, the Installer starts and Windows asks for the Small Business Tools CD 2. Again and again!

Is this one of the problems Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 (v2) addresses?

Or am I ready for Office 2003 (My husband is threatening Vista and Microsoft Office 2007. He has legal copies of both and isn't afraid to use them)

Each time I try to change a font in Publisher 2000 I get a message that says there's been an error, and I can either ignore it or close...the ignore button never works, so I hit close. When I close, I get another error box that says, "mspub has caused an error in GDI.EXE". What's that? Thanks for your help.

GDI.exe is the program that is the interface between Windows and your display hardware (video card and printer).
I would start troubleshooting by shutting down any other programs to see if it is a low resource problem.
Next, download the latest drive for your video card.
You might also try changing the Hardware Acceleration setting under Display Settings, Advanced, Performance.

This problem has never happened before, only recently, but i'm not too sure when it started...nothing's changed on the computer...it's been like this for a few months now...
When Publisher is opened and the catalog appears, i click on "Open Existing Files", the Publisher Open dialog box should appear - instead i get an "Open" folder that's looking in the GroupWise directory (Inbox, Outbox, etc...).
What causes this?
I've found 2 ways to get around it and get the original Publisher Open box to appear.
1. Close GroupWise altogether
2. Click on the button in the GroupWise open box that says, "Use Application Dialog"
Why is it defaulting to using GroupWise to open everything?

The school district I work for is having the same issue. You need to disable Integrations in Groupwise. To do this, follow these steps:

In GroupWise, select Tools > Options, then double click on Documents. Within the documents dialog, click on the Integrations tab, then uncheck the Enable Integrations check box. This should take care of the problem.

Trying to install MS Publisher 2K on machine running WIN98 + Office 97. Keep getting a dialog box with a header reading: "Microsoft Publisher 2000 Installation: Fatal Error".

Within the dialog box is a message that states "Installation ended prematurely because of an error".

I checked Microsoft's website and followed the only relevant directions I could find (for corrupted ODBC DLL files) but no success. I have also reloaded WIN 98 but also no success.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem.

I am using the calendar wizard in Publisher 2000 to create a 12-month calendar. When I make some formatting changes in one month, the changes are made for all the months. For example, if I change March 5th to font color red, other days in other months also change color or if I change the font size in different days, the changes are made to other dates. I think it’s because of the auto formatting of the tables. But I have tried to remove auto formatting but it hasn’t worked. I want to be able to modify any date (font style, font size, font color, fill color) without it affecting other dates in the calendar.

I just had to reinstall Windows XP, and in doing so, had to reinstall all my programs. I installed Microsoft Office 2000, (Front Page, Word, Excel and Publisher). When I double click on all of them except Publisher, they all open into the program. But Publisher wants the CD to open the program.
It opened before, I never had to put CD #2 in to run the program. How can I get this to open when I double click the icon.

My Windows 98 system has developed a new problem with MS Publisher 2000, having worked flawlessly in the past.

Whenever I now select "Clipart", I receive an "Illegal Operation" message which specifies, "MSPUB caused an invalid page fault in module RPCRT4.DLL".

The MS Knowledge Base does not address this specific failure message.

The "Clipart" function worked just fine previously, and continues to work OK in MS Word.

Any suggestions?

I wrote a huge document in publisher, and I want to print it. The issue is the printer that I'm working with is a commercial printer, and it can only print images. I need, therefore, to save this as an image, but it doesn't give me that option. What can I do?

You'll be able to get it by running Repair on your installation. That is one of the files that is installed with Publisher.

You'll need your Cd, though.
I have attached the file in this post though. I renamed it to pubole9.txt. When you download it, rename it to pubole9.dll and make sure it goes in your C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office folder.

Used it for first time since downloading SP2. I can open it , use it etc but if I go to anything at top, file, edit, save, print etc it freezes up and the only way to get out is alt ctl dtlete,. I can not use the ctl s , stl p etc either. I was working on a card, put the card all together and as soon as I tried to get it to save, print etc FREEZE time. Now, is it me or the system ?
My other half, she that must be obeyed, runs Windows 98SE. Installed on it is Microsoft Publisher 2000. Fair enough you would think............How on earth do you totally uninstall it ?I have gone through the contol panel / settings add or remove programs, that hasn't worked. I have even tried CCleaner, uninstall programs, thats hasn't worked. Can anyone assist please.

Hi Bonneville.Is this the standalone version or the version bundled with Office 2000?I'm not absolutely positive (because I hate it too) but I believe it came both ways.If you've done the Add\Remove thing, you should be able to use the MS windows installer cleanup utility to finish off the leftovers. Be careful with it though. If it's the Office bundled version you may remove something that another office program needs. To fix it, you would need to reinstall that particular part of the office suite again.

I recently downloaded a .tif photo I purchased to use for the cover of an upcoming CD; & couldn't open it Publisher 2000, so I loaded that particular converter (.tif) from the Publisher CD. I still couldn't open the file. I then opened it in Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7 (without a hitch) & saved a copy as a .jpg. Publisher wouldn't open the .jpg file either. Is anyone aware of any .tif characteristics that would prevent that file type from opening in certain apps, or that would foil a conversion to another file type? Shouldn't Publisher be able to at least open the .jpg? Thanks.

I have a computer with Win98 and Office2000 (disk 1) loaded on the computer. When I attempt to load (disk 2 w/ Publisher2000) I get an error message " Installer ended Prematurely because of an error." I have taken the disk to other computers and it will load correctly onto a machine that has Windows2000 but I always get the same error on any machine with Win98.

I found a Microsoft article that describes the problem I am having ( Article ID: Q235662) but it did not help. I have verified that the files exist that the article says are required...

I have looked into the log that is created each time I load the disk (Office 2000 CD2 Setup).

I found a MS article saying that this was caused by my 'IE5' directory not being in the correct location. I am using Explorer 5.0 but the directory is not called 'IE5'. I have tried renaming the directory but nothing seems to help......

Does anyone have any ideas?

I recently upgraded from Publisher 97 to Publisher 2000. I have a single template that I copy and specialize with different pictures and text. In Publisher 97, when I clicked on the large picture frame and change the picture and insert a new picture file, it asks me whether I want to change the picture to fit the frame or vice versa. In Publisher 2000, however, it automatically resizes the picture frame to match the picture (it shrinks one dimension to match the picture file's dimensions). How do you select the "Change the picture" function to insert a picture file but have the picture file stretched to fit the frame, rather than the other way around?

I have a new computer and put my MS Publisher 2000 program on it. Works fine...but I have to use the disks to get pictures in my documents. On my other computer I didn't have to do that. Can I setup Publisher on this computer so that the art gallery works with out disks. If so please give me step by step instructions that are easy for a knuckle head like me to understand. Thanks.
