Thinkpad T470 bottom cover tamper detection error

Q: Thinkpad T470 bottom cover tamper detection error

Hi, I'm having this annoying problem where each time I power on the computer, this tamper error message comes up, forcing me to hit escape so that i can boot to desktop.I've tried enabling and disabling this option in bios, resetting bios to default, setting and deleting supervisor passwords, none of that worked.I've also tried removing and putting the cover back on, checked for any visible spacing on the laptop case, no luck.I'm not that frustrated, but it still is kind of annoying.Anyone got any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I had to reset my drive for my Lenovo X1 Yoga 3rd gen laptop because I was getting a 2100 detection error. Unfortunately, now I'm faced with a bottom cover tamper detection error every time I open up my laptop. I even checked in bios and the detection is disabled but this is obviously not true. If anyone has any insight in such a frustrating issue I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I have a W540 I recently had open to inspect memory and SSD. I'm now getting the bottom cover tamper detection message on boot. How can I reset this but keep the tamper detection active? I have full BIOS access. I can disable it by fully disabling tamper detection in the BIOS or removing the Supervisor password. However when I reenable these the tamper message at boot comes back. I basically want to let the system know that the detected tamper was authorised but to keep detecting for future tampering.

A:Reset bottom cover tamper detection

I don't have a machine here with tamper detection enabled to test, but what I remember is that you just hit F9 to reset defaults (after making a note of any settings that need to be changed back).

Hello, we might found an issue with BIOS-Updates 2.48 and 2.49 for T440p.Our T440p has Supervisor-Password set and Bottom Cover Tamper Detection enabled. If we update to BIOS 2.48 or 2.49 the Bottom Cover Tamper Detection is trigged and Supervisor-Password is needed. Older BIOS-Versions/Updates are fine. This happends on 10/90 T440p. It is no option to enter Supervisor-Password for the other 80 devices. Is this a known issue? Is there hope that this will be fixed? Thank in advance

A:Thinkpad t450 says “ system security bottom cover tamper detected “

If it is password protected, there is no backdoor or master password.  You either need the password or you need to replace the motherboard

Well, after weeks of trouble with detection error on my brand new Yoga X1 3rd Gen. laptop and after a miraculously fix by chance by my local technician, I'm once again faced with an error before I can even boot up Windows. Are all Lenovo Thinkpads horrendously faulty or is just my device partially prone to errors? I checked the bio and this detection isn't even enabled so I'm puzzled as to why I must face this error everytime I attempt to boot up the device. Is there a way to fix this error or to reset it? Of course I've tampered the bottom to fix an error that was caused by loose screws. Now I have to deal with another obvious irritatable error without finding an explanation online. The few information even containing the tamper error on the manual for the device shows no hint in solving this issue. Lenovo support is testing my patience during an already hectic time in my life.

Hey P series forum techs and helpers! I have a p52 workstation laptop and recently I have changed my bios supervisor password so no one could power the laptop without permission- BUT FORGOT TO WRITE IT DOWN :'(, and after some troubleshooting I unplugged my internal battery for 24 hours, hoping it will reset the password but it didn't.. any help please? I really need this laptop to work, the sooner the better, I don't mind to format or anything if it will come as an option... Thank you in advance Community Team joseph.

A:"system security bottom cover tamper detected - press esc to continue" message

It sounds loke you had a power-on password and a supervisor password.  You unplugged the CMOS battery, which reset the power-on but not the supervisor password.  Now you need to supply the supervisor password to start  There is no master or backdoor password.  The only choices are to remember the password or replace the motherboard.

First off - warranty is out apparently.  Even though I remember checking the box for a 2 year extension, I am now being told I didn't and that I am SOL.  So that's one thing I'll deal with later...When trying to access the BIOS, I would only see a black screen.  I tried hooking an external monitor up to it, nothing, the monitor doesnt register until after the initial boot sequence. I then figured something must be up with the BIOS.  Went to Lenovo.com and found the updates, updated the BIOS along with everything else.  Still broken.    So I opened the bottom, disconnected the battery and the CMOS battery, held down the reset button on the motherboard for 10-15 seconds, did the same for the power button.  Put it all back together.  Hit the power button, see the Lenovo logo and then: System Security:  Bottom Cover Tamper DetectedSo now I am assuming it is asking for the password and the date, but the screen is blank.  I am now left with a completely bricked computer.  Whats even more awesome is that I noticed this when I was trying to fix the suddenly inoperable fingerprint scanner, tried updating the drivers/uninstalling/reinstalling/etc, then I was going into the BIOS to make sure it was setup properly in there....and thats when I noticied the BIOS only provided a black screen. The diagnostics screen did work before I opened the bottom cover, I ran a full diagnostic on everything anf found no... Hi Lenovo Community,  around April/May I bought a T470 and since then my Notebook is crashing from time to time out of nothing with the apparently famous "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" error.First this error screen shows up:     First error messageAnd it is shortly followed up by this one:Second error messageBefore starting this thread I had a look into the community and the older posts. This seems to be a problem which comes up often with all kind of Lenovo Notebooks (ThinkPads and also IdeaPads) however there was no thread for the T470 model yet and the suggested solutions (mostly only to update the drivers) didn't really solve my problem...!All my drivers are regularly updated via Lenovo Companion and yet the problem still comes out of nothing...Does anyone have an idea?Thank you.Best Regards,GT500M

I recently noticed a strange whiring noise directly related to fan speed, so seeing as the laptop was out of warranty (long story, but not really relevant) I opened her up and noticed the sticker on the fan was applied slightly offset and had bent inwards to lightly touch the cooling fan's blades. Repositioned the sticker cured the noise. Nice and simple.Upon re-assembly I noticed a broken clip belonging to the bottom cover. I've attached an image which highlights them, but they're screwed on to the cover plate, as opposed to being part of the moulding.Does anybody happen to know if these clips can be obtained seperately, if so, could you please let me know the part number? I've checked the parts website and it seems to only suggest an entire cover is available. For Lenovo to to have gone to the trouble of making the clips screw to the cover, it would seem that these are sacrificial sub-parts, it's a shame to spend almost 100 to get a rear cover, all for the sake of one replacement clip.Any help, gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Hi, last week I received my new T470; everything fine until yesterday when, after enabling virtualization support when running on battery, I received the infamous "2100: Detection error on HDD0". Power off and on again and the system booted correctly. After a couple of hours I left the pc for ten minutes or so and I wasn't able to wake it up: power light was on but tapping on keys or touchpad didn't wake the laptop up. Power off and a second "2100"; this time turning the pc off and on didn't do the trick... I thought the issue could be related to the virtualization settings I had enabled, so I entered the BIOS and disabled virtualization. Bingo, the pc booted! So, just to be sure that it was the root cause of the problem, I re-enabled it.. but everything went fine!  From then I'm not able to reproduce the issue anymore, but my OCD (and my colleagues, that kept saying I should have bought a Mac) is telling me that I have to fix this. Recently I was in the middle of using my laptop when it bluescreened and crashed. Now I'm not proud of this, but for some reason this is not an uncommon sight; I bought this off of eBay a couple months ago and it worked fine for a few days before randomly bluescreening often. Now I tried to change and install all the eight drivers, and while that solved most issues for awhile. But then I received a detection error 2100 main hdd0 on startup. Now I actually fixed it that time, and none of my files seemed to be damaged, which is strange given the nature of the error but I didn't question it. Now however the error is back seemingly inspired and I can't seen to get my laptop to simply boot. I ran the memory test and it passed and I don't even have an ssd so I don't know what the issue is or why it was fixed last time (I changed the SATA to compatability and then back to ahci and reset it). I think it might have to do with a faulty or corroded contact but I have not opened it to check. If it's anything like last time, I'm willing to bet that there is actually nothing wrong with my drive but something is again causing it not to be detected. I do have photos if that will help, but they need to be compressed so for now I hope this will be enough.

Hi, I bought my P50 like 4 months back and suddenly it has started to throw this error when the machine is starting up."2100: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)". I have run the tests in BIOS mode and all the tests got passed. I have faced the error 2 times now and after keeping the machine down for few minutes and switching back on resolved the issue. But I can't be sure it will solve the issue next time.Just bit of a background to the error. I have started my machine this morning, and from Windows login screen machine sudddenly restarted saying "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION". And on the restart I got the error. I do have a feeling that this not related to actual hardware, but firmware etc.  Any ideas would be highly appreciated. Thanks.Jaliya

Casually. In very random situations. I still find it very frustrating and I was hoping someone has any solution. Thanks and have a nice day

After about 18 months of use, I am repeadedly receiving the following errors on my Thinkpad Twist S230U (Model #3347CTO): 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)Press Esc to continue. (On Startup) or   Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you. (0% complete)If you'd like to know more you can search online later for this error: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (Windows 8 BSOD when I am in Windows) I am periodically able to login, so on my last login I did a complete refresh ran all the disk utility options, and did a complete refresh.  I just finished installing the 150 or so updates, did another run through the disk utility applications, and it is still doing it.   Any thoughts? I'm worried that it will get to the point where it won't startup again (and it is a huge pain when I am working and it goes BSOD on me).  There was nothing installed or any physical shock to the machine that would have led to this happening when it did.

Hi there guys! First of all, it's my first time to post something here. Just recently purchased a Thinkpad Twist. However, after a few days, all of a sudden, I always get the error 2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HD). I'm not sure what exactly is the problem though because after a few minutes, when I restart, it'll load Windows 8 back and eventually after a few browsing and use of computer, will force restart stating there's a problem encountered, etc. Once it restarts, it gives the same 2100 error again. Please help me guys as I'm really frustrated. I can't seem to use the computer normally without force restart due to error and loading windows 8 thereafter due to 2100 error.

I have had My Envy 17 for over a year now and from the last few weeks the bottom of the laptop is getting deatached from the laptop's body.I have never seen or experienced this kind of problem with any laptop. I take very good care of mine and I am surprise to see this happening to it. This is not the first problem I had with it. Just after I bought it the screen died and suport changed it for me cause the warranty was still on. I've seen posts of people having the same issue and it seems that this happens after the warranty is done. I think this should be a recall problem to be sloved by HP.If not at least some guidance should be given to us customers on how to fix it by ourselves. Everytime I open my laptop to use it I can see the gap becoming bigger, it can be fit back in place once the screen is closed, but is never 100% when the screen is open. I am worried about damage of the laptop components. Please help! Thanks

Hello everyone,
One fine evening while watching a movie, my laptop stopped responding and in frustration I switched off the laptop by holding the power button long enough to turn off. Next Morning it showed a blue screen and a message to recover my windows, which I failed to do and by the afternoon this message showed up. Detection Error on HDD0 (main HDD) and hence forth I've been unable to install windows from a USB drive since ( and I suppose) it is not able to read my HDD. I do not care about my data at all, I just want my laptop up and running. If I can have the data back it will be perfect otherwise I don't mind not getting my data back. I know for a fact that my Hard disk is fine because I went into command prompt, diskpart , and list disk, and saw the status of HDD as healthy, this is after the error (detection error on HDD). SO my question is: Why this error? IS there a problem in the motherboard? Why the error shows once and then doesn't show the next time and then comes up again.

A:2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD); Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga

The error might be bad sectors, but I'm not sure. if my guessing is correct, you might have to get a new drive to replace. also you need to reinstall OS

You just need to remove all the screws in the base, then wedge the cover off.

But you may want to get an ASP to do it since this may void the warranty, or something may break.

So far, so good.  But then an icon appears with a human and a lock, apparantly asking for a password. I have seen many versions of these icons, but this one I cannot identify.  Can anyone help me with recognizing this?I still have the worry that I don't have the password, but for now I just want to find out what password is expected. Thanks for the help.

Well I have been looking up online about this issue and I saw that another possibility for harddrive malfunction could be my motherboard, data controller or something else shorting the hard drive. So I don't want to buy another hard drive and have it be shorted again. I connected the LCD, memory, CMOSS battery, on/off button board, keyboard and DC charger. When I pressed the on/off button the led on the on/off board turned on, the CPU fan turned on, the HP logo on the back of the LCD turned on, the LCD screen stays black and the caps lock led start blinking once every 2 or 3 seconds.Because this Notebook was Windows 8 and use UEFI I decided to finish the assembling and try again. It responded the same as before.I can?t believe that the MB is bad; it was OK before replacing the bottom cover. Probably something to do with the UEFI/Windows 10 combination??????What I have tried?1-Hard Reset: no battery, no DC charger and pressing on/off button for 15 seconds.2-Disconected the CMOSS battery for several hours.3-Turning on and hitting the Esc, F12,F11,F10? button many times (all the F buttons).

Hi all,
Unfortunately in the process of adding more ram to my dell laptop I managed to break a couple of the hinges on the base cover and lose the metal cylinder which surrounds the single captive screw.
The bottom of my laptop practically threatens to fall off now and the screw is constantly falling out. No amount of twisting secures the screw, which also makes me fear that I may have damaged something.
Any suggestions?

A:Dell 7567 Gaming Bottom Cover and Screws

If the laptop is still functioning without the screw in place, I doubt you broke anything else. Replace the base cover. The part number is V71WR. Call Dell Spare Parts 1-800-357-3355 and ask for price and availability of the Dell part number. Or simply search the web for the part number.

Hey guys, I would like to know whether there are some screws hidden under the feet of the device. I want to open up the bottom cover to exchange the HDD with a SSD and do a RAM upgrade. I appreciate any answers!

My newly acquired T470p has suffered from unexpected reboots lately. Today I figured that moving it by holding it single handed triggers the reboot - I suspect the bottom cover is flexing, causing temporary shorts or disconnections. This is my first thinkpad without a rollcage: is this normal, or should I replace the laptop? This is my main machine, and I am working abroad (I bought the laptop in my home country) - what service level should I expect in the US?

My Hp has some problems with the bottom cover that pops open every time I open up my notebook. My Laptop has always been in a good condition, it never fell and I hardly travel with it. The reason why the cover opens is probably because of the screen that is to heavy for this kind of design. the problem occured  to me last month. I searched the forum, and found at least 20 pages of Hp-costumers with my same problem. link.I really what this problem to be fixed. It one of your most expensive notebooks. So Its realy sad for me that I bought an expensive product with a design-production flaw. I really hope you can help to solve this issue. I really need my laptop to continue working on it. The problem can only get worse. Please help me fast. Thanks in advance. Kind regards Dylan

I didn't really notice this problem until a few months after having this computer. I have been making bi-weekly payments on this wonderful laptop since fall of last year through a local Circuit World. I soon started to notice that even if I opened the laptop slowly or gently, there was this awful cracking noise coming from the computer. I had gotten used to it and assumed it was a minor thing, as I have experienced with other laptops in the past. It wasn't until I had run my hand over the left corner of the laptop that I noticed that the bottom cover had been starting to "pop out" or at least not connect itself correctly to the top cover as the right side did.  I have never once damaged this laptop via tossing, dropping or rough handling. This computer is very expensive and takes a lot from my budget, so I have made sure to take the most absolute delicate care of this computer, including handling and virus protection. Unfortunately, with this computer now being excessively harder to open than it should, and the damage that I'm afraid this left hinge is causing, it has become more than just a "little" problem to me, and I fear that it will only worsen over time. I've noticed that in another forum, a customer had their HP ENVY replaced, but I'm wary that I cannot recieve the same treatment because of my purchase throught Circuit World. I will talk to the employees at Circuit World about getting it fixed or getting a replacement if that applies to me, but for...
