Yoga 730 15IKB SSD Upgrade Driver issue

Q: Yoga 730 15IKB SSD Upgrade Driver issue

Hello Lenovo Community! I have upgraded my 256 GB ssd to a Samsung Evo Plus 1TB ssd. I cloned my old disk to the new one and it works without a problem.Only thing that i couldnt manage is the installation of the driver which is provided by Samsung. I guess it works with the Intel nvme driver rightnow but i want to update the driver. When i try to execute that exec. file that i downloaded from samsung website, i get 'NVME device is not connected' warning Device manager says new ssd has the latest driver, which is dated to 2006... =) I did some research and i saw that many people advising to configure BIOS advanced options, which is not possible in Lenovo setup (as far as i see) Does anybody has an idea about the solution? Many thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I want to upgrade my Windows to the latest update (October 2018). But upon reading the Lenovo support website, it seems that it's advisable to upgrade Intel Graphics Driver to version 24.20.100.6286 and newer which is available with Intel Audio Driver 10.25.0.10. I have tried updating my drivers through Lenovo Vantage, but that only installed the Nvidia VGA driver, not the Intel one. I also checked the available drivers on Lenovo support page but the Intel Graphics Driver version I need is not listed. Am I missing anything? Is there a timeline on when that driver is going to come out? Thanks.

Hello everyone, I have been having issue with USB, it is really annoying, that's why I would like to ask if someone has similiar issue with this laptop and whether someone knows how to fix this.  Laptop boots normally to the main OS on the SSD, everything seems to be working fine. However when I attach an USB device to the laptop, it acts little crazy. When I connect 1 or 2 devices on those USB ports on the laptop, they seems to be working most of the time (not always). However when I connect them to some hub (even self powered hub or Thunderbolt 3 enclourse with power supply) it acts ok, but sometimes it is having hiccups. For example, if i connect keyboard, the keyboard is typing fine but sometimes it randomly holds the key which was last pressed, but the keyboard is still being powered and is not bliking like it is loosing power. The main issue is with Windows To Go USB drive, which works on any other computer except this one. When I boot to the windows, it is good during idle, but when I try to intall something the drive goes to 100% activity time and 0 write 0 read and freezes. I have to replug the drive, but then it ussualy gets blue screen. Also if I'm coping something to or from any USB drive, which takes longer (also in the main OS) it freezes like this too.

Recently I found out that my lenovo yoga 710-15ikb laptop doesnt support digitizer active pen technology. Its hidden in online talks and also frustration when you buy a $70 wacom bamboo ink pen to find that it doesnt work. I understand that most active pens wont work with my computer because the screen (and maybe motherboard) dont have a digitizer. However, I have been looking online and some retailers appear to be selling digitizer lcd screens for my specific model. My question is whether or not these retailers are selling aftermarket screens and if they are will the digitizer work once one is installed? Also, I have a lot of experience doing repair work, mainly with digital cameras and building my desktop, so the task of replacing my laptops screen is not a problem Im just unsure as to whether or not buying a new digitizer lcd screen will work. I dont want to spend money that I dont have to if it turns out that I am just being misled.

Thanks!

Let me know if you need more clarification I'll be around for a while.

Hi, I have this problem, which I also had on a 710-15ISK before I replaced mine with this model due to cracked screen. Intermittently, while "computering", the keyboard will stop working as expected.Only a variety of keys will work, like some mode has been activated by an accidental key press.Like I said, this happened on my previous 710 as well. It's frustrating because I'm learning programming, and the issue doesn't resolve until I sleep the laptop and unsleep it, which makes me believe it isn't some key combination I'm hitting, but rather maybe a jam of the keyboard. The same keys stop working each time, and same for the keys that remain working. If I can if it happens again, I will write down each key working/not working, but until then, does anyone have some insight on this?

My Yoga 710-15ikb keyboard crapped out. The local repair guy says that Lenovo had issues with that unit, and I will have to use a USB keyboard. Has anyone ever heard of this? He tried to fix it once by intalling a new keyboard,  and all of the keys worked except a few. He said that even though there is an issue there is no recall. I am having a hard time believeing this is the case, and was wondering if anyone else has had heard anything. Thanks

Hello, A few days ago I bought lenovo yoga 730-15IKB, practically since the first charging I had a problem with a quick battery discharging -  yoga lasts only for 3-4 hours. I installed  latest drivers that I could find on the Internet - nothing changed.Yesterday I checked the battery tab in the program HWiNFO64 - it shows that the battery consumption level is 27%! and the battery only charges up to 37490 mWh. I tried to find instructions on how to perform a battery reset on the Internet - however in the lenovo vantage program I miss the option Battery gauge reset. I have uninstalled the lenovo vantage from the Microsoft store and tried to install several versions from the offline files - there is no battery gauge option, only a power saving mode, fast charging, active USB connections, the lenovo vantage toolbar and that's all! Has anyone had similar problems?

I have never had such a substandard power cord before from any other laptop brand.  Thanks.

I have a Yoga 720 15ikb laptop that has a horizontal black bar appearing on the top of the screen. I called Lenovo tech support and they said that it is a hardware issue and that the screen needs to be replaced. My laptop warranty ended in August 2018.  I just want help purchasing a new LCD screen that is guranteed to not share this well known defect. I am hoping that lenovo can respond with helping me buy this at cost.  I do not see why they should make money by selling me an aftermarket part (with that hefty aftermarket mark-up) since this is their fault. Can someone from Lenovo please message me with options? I would be willing to do the replacement myself.  Alternatively, has anyone had luck fixing this gasket? I noticed that if I close the lid, flip it upside down, the bar vanishes (falls back into place). Then it starts to appear within a few minutes of use with the screen right side up. Maybe there is a way to remove or fix this moving gasket?

Hello to everyone,Some months ago I have changed the internal HDD for an SSD (Drevo x1 pro) and put the old HDD in place of the DVD reader with an adapter. I have installed windows 10 on the ssd and used the HDD for storing file, programs etc and everything has worked fine. Some days ago I have to format everything and reinstalled windows 10 on the ssd but now the bios recognize the ssd as disk 2 and the HDD as disk 1 and I can't change this. (but the SSD is plugged in the mobo as disk1) if I install windows on the SSD the HDD don't let the sistem boot, if I remove the HDD the system boot. If I boot into windows and then plug the HDD windows dont' recognize it. If i remove the partition from the HDD windows boot from the SSD, if I initialize the HDD and create a new partition the problem reappears.THE POINT IS: I can no longer use one SSD with windows installed and an HDD for data...because now it mess up everything.Maybe the problem could be related to a bug of the BIOS? (the last update is from july 2019, and this is the version I have now, when I have installed the SSD the version was the previous). where I can find a link for the previous version of the bios? Someone could please help me?Thank you in advice Bye!

I am a very frustrated and angry customer at the moment as i keep running into Road Block and unacceptable answers.  This issue is enough to cause me to never buy another Lenovo laptop or any laptop at Best Buy!I bought my computer in July and in September i noticed a key had popped off-  the "< ," key next to the M key.  I have used the key board only when i was setting up-  now at my office and at customers i set it in downward dog mode ;-) and use a blue tooth key board.    So it is not from use that it broke.   I took the laptop into BEST BUY and was told that the key was missing a metal part on the back so they could not fix it onsite-  i would have to send it in and be without my laptop for a week to 10 days - unacceptable -  this was a month or more ago. I searched on the LENOVO website and could not find a way to purchase a single or the entire set of Keys!  I am self employed as a software consultant.   My life is pretty busy and i finally decided today to bite the bullet and ask for a call from Lenovo support.  Again i am told the only way to fix this is to send my laptop in for a repair.  I asked to just be able to buy a KEY - i am told that well they do not sell individual keys - they would replace the entire keyboard!  So sell me the keyboard and or send me one an i will take into best buy to have them replace it while i wait.  They cannot do that.   I live... The fans of my Yoga 720 are always running. When it shuts down, the fans go on max until it's done shutting down, then when it boots up, the fans go on max again. It calms down for the few seconds it takes me to open up Google Chrome. Then it goes on max again. It doesn't matter whether or not I'm running an intensive program or literally just having 1 tab open in Chome, the fans are always on.  I obviously expect it to be running at max speed when I'm playing games but not when there's 1 tab open in Google Chrome. Is anyone else having this issue? If so, how was it solved? I tried searching around and still didn't find a definitive answer so I really appreciated all the feedback that everyone has to give.

Does anyone else use this software and laptop comination and have the same issue? (Software like Photoshop and Mudbox and fine, but not 3DsMax). Regards..

I am using a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro 1370 running Windows 10. The touchscreen never fails to work but the touchpad however causes a lot of problems. It will randomly stop working when I am using it, often when opening my laptop or when right clicking, but often without any apparent cause as well. One temporary method I have found that somtimes fixes the issue is to go into the HIDs in Device Manager and disable/re-enable the 9CE1 I2C HID Device. Sometimes this option will have a yellow triangle indicating that the device will not start and display this message in the driver properties:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A request for the HID descriptor failed.

Other times however there is no acknowledgement of driver issues and attempting to enable the devie will cause the device manager to not respond, restarting my PC in recovery mode after a "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" message and wiping my recent files. I have tried everything from uninstalling/reinstalling the driver, updating the BIOS and disabling the driver to boot in safe mode. When updating the driver software through the device manager, it says the latest version is installed: The driver version is 10.0.10586.0, it says it is from 2006-06-21.

Has anyone else had this issue before with their Yoga? Anyone know a solution?

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Mod's Edit: Additional information added to Subject line for clarity of issue.

Dear friends,Since I have upgraded to windows 10, I have observed that my wifi signal is too weak. Therefore, I have been doing some research as well as installing and uninstalling different sets of drivers and my issue is not solved. Now, I seem to have found the problem. The problem is that the RTL8723BE chip is designed to be connected to two antenas. Some manufacturers, however, use only one antena with this chip, and our problem lies in this. Now on windows 8.1, the driver knows that in Yoga 2.13 we have only one WIFI antena and it uses the antena that exists. But on windows 10 (even if i retrieve to windows 8.1, it updates itself to windows 10 automatically), the driver is not configured correctly to work with one antena instead of the default two. Therefore, the signal is too weak. Now, I have contacted lenovo support in Germany, but they seem not to be willing to help with the driver issue. What should we do? Any ideas?

I have a 2 week old Yoga 910. I have recently allowed it to do a driver update through the 'Lenovo Companion' program. After restart I now find that I have continuous (>10mins) high CPU usage (>30%).  After investigating Windows Task Manager I note: "TODO: <File Description> (32 bit)" with subgroup "Qualcom Atheros WLAN Driver Service" is the culprit using >30% CPU.  As mentioned... this runs continuously. The problem driver is Liteon WLAN Driver - 10[64] V.12.0.0.278. I'm not sure why it shows under "TODO: <File Description> (32 bit)"... I have not seen this before... If someone could explain what "TODO: <File Description> (32 bit)" is that would be appreciated. Uninstalling this driver rectifies the problem.  Using repair mode on the installer package does not fix it.  Re-installing this driver causes the issue again.  This driver update appears to be broken.  Please rectify.

If I double-click on the entry, a message displays saying the device cannot start (error 10) and the process hosting the driver for this device has terminated. I have tried updating the driver to no avail. I have also downloaded the DPTF driver from the Lenovo website. However, when I try to install it a message displays saying the Realtek bluetooth device will not work on this version of Windows. For information, every chipset driver reports this message on installation.I would be grateful of some help to get the driver for DPTF Manager installed/working. The Trackpad is unusable on my Thinkpad Yoga 260. When I try to use it it doesn't respond most of the time. Strangly though when I use the very tip of my finger it does work. To me that sounds like the palm rejection is too harsh. Also the scrolling gesture doesn't work if I place my fingers vertically. It does work if I place them horizontally). The Trackpad is from Elantech. I tried changing the driver settings, re-installing it and nothing helped. The problem with the Trackpoint is that when I try to scroll vertically using the middle button the scrolling symbol often first shows up horizontally and I need to press the trackpoint hard to get it to scroll. This all on Windows 10. I am thinking that this is all a driver issue because I tried out Ubuntu and there it works without problems also uninstalling the driver gets the Touchpad to work but the gestures don't work then. But if this is a driver issue shouldn't everyone have this problem?

Hi everyone and hello to the forum.I have got a Lenovo Yoga 2 11 with Windows 10 that at some point stopped charging and ended up with a totally flat battery. Still runs fine on the mains though. As the battery was old and weak anyway I replaced it. New battery battery was pre-charged and worked well - unfortunately it didn't charge either. It is drained and the battery icon shows ( 3% plugged in ) and nothing happens. After a lot of searching and reading it is either your charger or your battery I came across the hint to uninstall the Microsoft AC Adapter as well as the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. Then unplugging it and removing the battery for a little while. As a result the battery charges for a few seconds upon restart then stops.Running a battery monitor show the system voltages increases slightly and some mA going in before it stops.Windows says the drivers are up to date. And I can't find a previous driver version from the Lenovo site or else.To me it looks like this is not a hardware issue.Anyone got some ideas what I can do?All input kindly appreciated.

Hi, I'm having trouble finding a USB-C hub for my Yoga 720-15IKB. I mainly need HDMI output and a SD-Card reader. Speed for the reader is not a major concern but I am using UHS-II cards so faster is always better. So far I've tried these two (both just no name china models) but I can't get them to output an HDMI signal AND read a card at the same time. At first I thought there's a problem with my USB-C port but it seems to be a somewhat known compatibility problem on the forums (anyone who can verify that?). I can also output HDMI just fine with a simple aliexpress adapter. So the question is which hub should I buy? A Lenovo one? I tried to search for compatibility lists but can't really come up with something. Thanks in advance!

Hello, i am thinking of getting the laptop above, but I have a few concerns. 1) is the wireless card in it already an intel 8265ac card? Is not, can it be upgraded with a FRU 01AX704? I'm not sure if it's compatible with the bios whitelist on this machine and my googling skills haven't come back with much! 2) what make is the SSD in this machine? Is it PCIE-NVME based? It only says 256gb. Can hard drives be replaced for any model or does it have to be in the whitelist like wireless cards? I'm hoping it's a Samsung pro 960 256gb! 3) I've also heard it's hard to install windows from scratch on these machines due to the controller for the hard drive being set to RAID rather than AHCI/NVME, which means windows doesn't detect it upon installation. I've heard there's a bios out there now which allows AHCI to be selected from the bios so it makes it straight forward enough (a lot of linux users wanted this!) but Lenovo have said it may cause issues with performance if installing windows through this way? Is this just Lenovo covering their backs or is this a genuine concern? any clarification on the bottom point would be great. thanks!
