Connecting W2K to router disconnects vista

Q: Connecting W2K to router disconnects vista

When I connect my W2K server to my linksys BEFSR41 router my wife's dell laptop with vista home basic loses connection to the router.

Seconds after the network cable for the W2K machine goes into the router her laptop loses connection. And when the W2K cable is removed her vista machine connects again.

What do you think is causing the problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a ZyXEL P-335U wireless router, which also has four normal LAN ports.
Currently I only use the normal LAN ports, and I have no wlan connections active.
The router is connected to the internet through an ethernet connection. (10/10Mbit)

Everything works great when I connect through the router with only one computer, but
if I plug in my 2nd computer, both connections will die after 10-60 minutes. All the lights
on the router keep blinking like usual, even after the connections die. It seems like some
outgoing traffic will still be possible after the connection crashes, but no incoming data.

I returned the router to have it fixed, but they found no problems and sent it back to me.

Hopefully someone here will have an idea of what could be the problem. Looking forward
to reading any ideas/comments/tips/help/whatever.

I am attempting to connect my Vista Basic Desktop to my Vista Home Premium Laptop via my Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I currently have all firewalls disabled and have my desktop connected to the router via ethernet cable and the laptop connected wirelessly...

My desktop and laptop are both recognizing eachother but when I attempt to connect to one another I am getting errors or password requests. I will break down the issues from each computer.

When I open the network I see my Laptop, when I double click to open the sharing folders I am prompted for a username and password... I entered my WPA username and password and was given an error that information was incorrect... I tried many variations of this and came up with the same error.

When I attempt to connect to the Desktop via the Laptop it attempts and gives me a error stating to \\DESKTOP could not be connected please check spelling...

I am at a loss for words... I have search high and low for a solution and am now posting here in a last attempt to determine my problem.

I am trying to connect to a home network with a vista computer, but it just will not work. I can connect no problem using the same ethernet cord and my windows 7 laptop. Is there a list of things I can try to get this thing connected?

The ethernet connects to a router and then to a modem. I've tried the usual unplugging and restarting, but nothings goes through.

I am trying to hook up my sons laptop to our home internet provider via wireless router.
He has an HP DV4T-1000 laptop with Vista home edition.

The router is an Netgear WGR614-V9.

His wireless G works at his college so the hardware and setup are good.

The setup program for the Netgear rotuer went through the laptops and loaded loaded, ran a self check, I was rtehn asked to swap teh cable swap the cables where the router then was verified throught laptop via the RJ-45 ethernet. They whole load cycle completed and everything appeared fine, no error messages.

When I plug the enet in the router all the lights cycle as expected including the flashing enet active light.

However the laptop does not auto detect the router and when I go into the Vista setup section (forgot the name) for network setup it shows as a choice the name I gave the "home network or router" but cannot it does not connect, somehtign like network not found.

I have never worked with Vista and dont have a clue where to start. Help!

I'm looking for some networking help for a problem I can't seem to solve. I can connect to the internet via Ethernet LAN and I can connect via mobile broadband dongle, but I can only connect to any wireless network as local only.
The problem seemed to start when i accessed the router and configured an encrypted connection. After this the router wouldn't talk to any of the laptops in the house, so I restored the router to default settings and the network then was recognised and connected to by every other PC except mine, which was the laptop I used to configure the router in the first place.

I have followed all the advice that google has pointed to on many forums and restarted routers, restarted laptop, restarted the DHCP client, checked in the registry that the DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle is at 1.
Under some more forum advice I have run cmd and ipconfig/all and here is the output.

I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit and have an older wireless router, a D-Link DI-714P+, to which I can also connect a network cable. I was not able to connect to this router wirelessly but was able to do so as soon as I plugged in the network cable. On another system, a laptop running Vista Business 32 bit, I am able to connect automatically my router wirelessly without my having to do anything.

What do I have to do to connect to my router wirelessly on Vista Ultimate 64 so I can unplug my network cable ?

I have 2 laptops. One Dell Lattitude/XP and HP Pavilion/Me (yah I still have Me). Both work fine with Wireless router DI-524. I can connect to internet without any problem.

Few days ago I bought a new laptop (HP/dv4t/Vista Home Premium). I configured it to work with DI-524 router. For the first few minutes it worked fine. Later on the connection started to drop. I had to do frequent connect/disconnect cycles to re-establish connection to internet. BUt it keeps on getting disconnected. On some occasions I see the icon with two computers and a globe in system tray indicating the successful connection. But I see following error message on Firefox

"Connection Interrupted
The Connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
Tnhe network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again." Refer to the attached document.

I reinstalled the drivers under network Adapters, it did not help. Talked to HP support. Support lady said it is problem with the router and it may not be compatible with Vista. But on Dlink web site I see DI-524 is listed under "Compatible with Windows Vista" http://www.dlink.com/products/vista-support/. I haven't talked to Dlink people yet.

Here are the details for the Router
Model: DI-524
h/w version: C1
F/W version: 3.02 (original in 2005). I had updated it to 3.23 (more than a year back)

Any thoughts on what's going on? Do I need to upgrade the firmware for the router? Or do I need to buy... Read more

Some things you can try here.
For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

Next, I'd give these changes a shot.

Changes that may help to increase the compatibility of Vista with older networking devices:

Disable the IP Helper service:

1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Scroll down to the IP Helper service, right click on it and select Properties
3. In the dropdown box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", set it to Disabled and then click on "Apply"
4. Then click on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the current session
5. Click OK to exit the dialog

Disable IPv6:

1. Hold the Windows key and type R, enter "ncpa.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
2. Right click on each network connection and select "Properties"
3. Remove the checkmark from the box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)

Hi. My girlfriend and I are trying to resolve a confounding situation-- her Gateway laptop, which is running Windows Vista, can't seem to connect properly. She connects to our Netgear wireless router, but can't access the internet. It must be something to do with her computer, because my Dell Inspiron running XP connects to the router and goes through to the internet with no problems.

What kind of info can I provide to help someone help us out with this?

A:Vista computer connecting to wireless router but not internet...

sounds like a PPP Authentication Challenge problem to me. try to check your routers support MSCHAP V.2 PPP Authentication or not. since VISTA only support PAP, CHAP and MSCHAP V.2. if your router not support MSCHAPV.2, then u should set the VISTA to support PAP and or CHAP too. by default VISTA only enable MSCHAP V.2

while XP support PAP, CHAP and MSCHAP V.1

I have 2 Dell notebooks running XP that connect to a Linksys WRT54GP2 wireless router with no problems. The security is set to WPA PSK with the WPA algorithm to TKIP.

I also have a new DELL notebook running on Vista that won't connect wirelessly to the router - it can see it, but when I try to connect, it comes up with an error message '802.11 authentication failed due to status code 13. Resonding station does not fit the specified authentication algorithm'

I tried connecting the DELL Vista notebook to the router via a cable - it works fine.

I also tried disabling security so there was none, and it also worked fine. So the problem seems to be with the security algorithm.

I have searched on the net and a lot of people seem to be having problems with the DELL-VISTA-Linksys combination, but i haven't found any answers.

Can you help??

I'm hoping to get help with this from someone...I'm working on a computer problem for someone who can't access anything online. I'm working with Windows 98, trying to connect to any isp, aol, netzero, etc. They uninstalled Mcafee Virus Scan Home edition, and then installed Norton Anti-Virus, and from that point cannot connect to any online service. I have completely uninstalled, reinstalled dialup networking, as well as tcp/ip protocols, dialup adapter, client for workgroups etc, and nothing fixes the problem. Any attempt to dial up either Netzero, or AOL the modem will dial out, attempt to connect, and upon connecting to any service, the dial up networking icon appears for less than a second, disconnects the modem, and will not allow it to stay connected. I thought it may be the USR 56k win int modem, but I just installed a zoom v92 pci modem and again, as soon I I attempt to run netzero or aol, it attempts to connect, the dialup networking icon flashes for a second, disconnects the modem and it will not stay connected. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do apart from reinstalling windows 98, please email me or post here. thanks in advance

Hello Guys,

I am having trouble with my wireless connection. It was working fine till a couple of days back and then started acting up. Let me explain the problem in detail.

System connects to the router. It shows full signal. After 10-15 seconds the wireless gets disconnected. After that the behaviour is quite varied. Sometimes the router itself is not recongnized. Sometimes the router is recognized but the system doesnt connect. If I force it to then it again says cannot connect to a hidden network. After a while maybe 4-5 mins later it recongnizes and tries connecting again sometimes it succeeds sometimes it doesnt.

My System Specifications are given below.

1. Samsung Ultrabook Series S - Model NP530U3C-A01UK
2. Processsor - Intel COre 5-3317U CPU @1.70 Ghz
3. Windows 7 Hope Premium - 64 Bit OS
4. Wireless Network Adaptor - Intel Centrino Advaced N-6235
5. ROuter - Thomson
6. 6GB RAM

A Little bit about my Home network
There are 5 devices connected usually. My Wife's PC which is a Dell Inspiron and runs on Windows 7 Home premium, My Ipad, 2 of our Smart Phones and My PC. Every other device currently works fine except mine. So looks like the problem is with my system rather than the router or network provider.

Remedies I have tried and failed
1. Updated the Network Driver by downloading and installing it from Intel Website
2. From the ROuter side manually changed the channel to see if that has an effect
3. FLushed my DNS, tried to release and ren... Read more

A:Connecting to Wireless Router keeps connecting and disconnecting

I hate to say it, but since you have done everything I would have done, its possible the wireless adapter is broken/not functioning correctly. Is the product still under warranty? Especially since you stated that other devices connect just fine.
So its probably not the router.
The only other thing I can think of to try would be to buy another wireless router and test it with that.
If you have no problems, something is amiss.
You could also set your router back to factory defaults and try again.

I'm trying to use a router to establish a wireless connection with a machine running XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2. I've connected successfully in the past with other machines (including now, as I write this), so it doesn't seem to be the router or the modem that's the problem. What's more, it's not XP, since there's another machine that can connect fine.

So, I'm stumped. I've contacted both my ISP and the manufacturer of the router, but not much help there.

Any thoughts? The machine sees the wireless connection fine, will attempt to connect and will actually say that it was successful in connection -- but there's no access to the internet and the status is actually limited or no connectivity.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

I bought this OfficeConnect Wireless SuperG Cable/DSL Router from 3Com. This piece was recommended by this swedish online store. Always bought stuff from them and nothing has been this bad. ;I

Anyway, if I put the network under some stress. Like downloading/uploading files or playing an online game, it disconnects me in 5-10 minutes.

So I have tried different settings with no luck at all. Another strange thing is that when I had the router at default settings and like 7-8 meters away, I could only get 11 Mbps. So I moved it only 1 meter closer and got 22 Mbps or something. I changed from "Mixed" to "Dynamic SuperG" and got almost 54 Mbps but very fluctuating. I moved the router only 4 meters from me and I got a contanst 54 Mbps. The router says it can work up to 122 meters indoor. ;I

There are no firmware upgrades either yet. There's so many settings that I don't have a clue about either. So I hope any of you people have the skill which I don't posess.

I bet there's something I have forgotten to tell you, so please just ask, I will check regulary.

I replaced a very old router recently with a brand new Linksys BEFSR41 version 4.3 with the latest firmware, version 2.00.4 Build 7. At first it was fine, but the modem got disconnected once and since then I've been getting random disconnects from Ventrilo and on online game (WoW). I would think that it's a WoW issue, except that the disconnects happen from Ventrilo as well. My fiance and I play from the same router.

- We play next to eachother and only one of us disconnects at a time.
- Disconnects are random, can stay in WoW but Ventrilo disconnects and vice versa.
- Seems to occur at any time, but might be more frequent in the evening.

I've tried power cycling or whatever (disconnected modem, router, and the computers from power and then later plugged them back in). I've tried resetting the router to factory defaults and checked for firmware updates, but it already has the latest on the Linksys site.

I'm know how to log into the router, but I don't really know what to change to try and fix this issue. Please help!

I have a Linksys EA6900 V1.1 Router. This router is probably 18 - 24 months old. I can't quite remember when I bought it, maybe it is even as old as 3 years, but I don't think so. The router will often drop connection and automatically begin to reconnect. This is intermittent, and sometimes the connection works for hours or days, and sometimes it will fail every 5 or 10 minutes for awhile.

This is a fairly new issue, at least with this frequency. We moved into a new home in June, and I started to get a very occasional drop, but it wasn't super frequent until the last couple of months probably.

This happens on wired and wireless connections both. (My desktop is hardwired) I have attached screenshots of the settings in my Linksys Smart Wi-Fi area. Guest Access, Parental Controls, and Media Prioritization are all turned off.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me out with a problem I've been having:

I recently set up a wireless router in order to share my internet connection with a friend of mine. Things work fine most of the time, but these days whenever I use the internet for a while I get disconnected, and I can't access the internet again until I restart my computer completely.

I used to think that it may be because we were both using the internet at the same time that it would disconnect me, but sometimes I am just surfing web pages and it will disconnect me.

I look at the lights on the router and see that it's in heavy use. The internet light and the LAN light (connecting the router to my computer) are flashing intensely. Yet, when I switch off my computer the lights don't flash which means my friend is not using the internet. It is as if my computer keep sending information to the router until it can't handle anymore and disconnects. I really don't know what's going on.

If you could give me any ideas, I'd appreciate it immensely, and if you need any extra information, I'll be happy to post what you need.

Just for reference, the router I'm using is a NETGEAR wiresless router MR814.

I have a Speedcom+ Broadband Router (RT514AD), connected to a Motorola cable modem and 2 computers (each running Win98SE). Everything works fine for about 1 hour, then my internet connection is lost, and I have to press the reset button on the router, which then sorts it out (but only until the next hour).

I've looked for a firmware upgrade, but can't find find technical support for this product anywhere (it was the cheapest after all!). Is there anything I can do to make the connection more stable?

I have an 8 port "wired" router from Linksys that I have been using in conjunction to a wireless access point which had been plugged into one of the open ports on the wired router. Lately I have been having connection issues with the WAP so I decided it may be time to upgrade. Not thinking about it, I picked up a new Linksys E1000 wiress router (as opposed to a WAP) and, after a lengthy support call with Linksys, got that up and running.

So I have operability for both wired and wireless devices, however I have noticed a substantial slow down on my wired devices. I also just upped the plan with my ISP to increase my bandwidth which I see on the wired PCs but not on the wireless which seem less. Would a WAP be faster than a wireless router by nature?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

A:Slow wireless after connecting Linkys wirless router to Linksys wired router

Have you made sure you have the latest firmware for the wireless router? If you updated the firmware be sure to reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

What speeds do you get with a test such as speedtest.net with a connection to the wired router? With an ethernet connection to the wireless router? With a wireless connection?

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I'm basically trying to push the wireless signal from my Verizon router in my basement, up to my wireless Netgear router which is recieving the signal on the main level so that I can plug my wired (non wireless) laptop into the ethernet port which is receiving wireless signal from the Verizon router in the basement in order to gain access to the internet.

Can this be done with the equipment listed above and or some additional firmware and configuration?

Thank you for all your assistance on this in advance.

I have Qwest/CenturyLink DSL, and recently replaced the Actiontec M1000 modem which crapped out after 5 years of service. Replaced it with a Netgear DM111PSP v2 router/modem. Now I cannot get either of my two routers, the Linksys WRT54G or WRT160N V2 to broadcast wireless internet. I've spent the most time on the WRT160N. It will broadcast a wireless signal, but devices that attempt to connect to the internet time out while "obtaining IP address". BTW, I just happen to have two wireless routers on hand, I only need one to work.

I can get internet through the hard wire connection. I have the Netgear modem hooked up to the "internet" port of the WRT160N router, and the computer is connected to one of the four ethernet ports on the back of the router. I can access both router and modem setup pages using this setup. The Netgear modem is set up for DHCP server, PPPoA encapsulation, and gets its DNS address dynamically from the ISP. The WRT160N is also set up for automatic DHCP configuration. These are the settings given by running each set up wizard, and this has set me up for some DHCP conflicts.

I think that setting up a dual modem/router in transparent bridging mode (PPPoE) in theory turns off the DHCP, allowing the WRT160N to handle DHCP, but I have no luck even getting my hard-wired internet connection to work if I switch from PPPoA to PPPoE mode. Even if I cut the WRT160N out of the loop and connect the computer direct to the DM111PSP. No internet,... Read more

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

I am connecting Netgear wireless router (wgr614 v5) to an already placed router on the network (Nortel Networks Router). I am having trouble with wireless router because the Nortel router is DHCP disabled. Please if someone could help me, I would greatly appreciate. Please, explain step by step how to configure the wireless router to work with Nortel router.

P.S. The Nortel router cannot be DHCP enabled...I have DSL coming to Nortel router. So, Nortel is the primary router. Nortel router can't be removed because it is required by my company that I use it to connect to their network over the internet.

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. [You will not need a cross-over cable if one of the "routers" is a computer.] Leave the WAN port unconnected!

This procedure bypasses the routing function (NA... Read more

I recently got qwest DSL and I configured my Wireless to work and accept my wireless MAC Address, but when I plug it into the WAN slot in the Linksys router it doesn't work. I went to linksys site and did their configuration which is changing the router LAN IP to, then power cycling, but this doesn't help. I cannot access the internet still. Both the modem/router and the router are operating DHCP, but if I disable the modem/router, I cannot access the wireless function, and if I disable the DHCP on my Linksys router, I cannot obtain an IP from the modem router via the linksys router.

This is frustrating lol.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

hello Im new to this forum and I have been having problems with my new router. I decided to purchase a new one after having our old smc one since we first got cable internet. There were no problems with the old one except holding back the actual cable speed.

The new router is a Dlink EBR-2310 model and isp is Comcast cable. The connection is hooked up to 2 computers and occasionally a gaming console. Xbox live runs great but the two computers disconnect and reconnect randomly anywhere from 5-10/12 times a day. It is off for about anywhere from 1-3/4min and then returns without me having to do anything

This is a WIRED connection. The firmware on the router is up to date. I tried setting up static ips and the same thing happens(even worse) I've tried replacing the router and the same problem still occurs. any help would be appreciated since it is an annoyance.

Other weird problems with new router: downloads from sites like rapidshare are unusually slow (10-20 k/bs) downloading torrent files often triggers a disconnect. thanks for any help

Problem: The internet connects fine, but every couple of minutes it will disconnect for a couple of seconds. It's not a big deal when browsing, but it's disastrous when downloading big files or playing online games.

What I've tried so far:
-Resetting the modem. No change.
-Reconnecting the modem/router completely. No change.
-Replacing the main splitter. Slight change, but problem came back eventually.
--Original problem came with the tech's 2 way 5-1002 mhz spliiter.
--I tried replacing it with a 3 way 5-1000 one. The modem on 7db and cable on 7db. It worked fine for a couple of days.
--Problem comes back today. Moving the modem to any of the 3 outputs doesn't fix anything. Moving it to 3.5db actually causes a short timeout every minute when I try to ping yahoo (as a test).
--I've also tried a 2 way 5-900 mhz splitter. It was the worse one of all.

Other info:
The internet went down to the entire block at the start of the year. No one knew this of back then so we made a call to comcast, and they scheduled for a tech. We get back online somehow the next day, which is also the same time the tech came. I have Comcast Digital Voice and Internet and am using an Arris TM502G cable modem with telephony. I am trying to connect it to my wireless router: Belkin f5d7230-4 version 6000.

I have had the router for several years, and it worked perfectly and consistently. Several months ago, I started using my Desktop computer without the router, connected directly to what I had at the time, a motorola standalone cable modem. Then I ordered Comcast Digital voice, and they replaced my motorola modem with the arris telephony modem. After a few weeks of using the arris directly connected to my desktop, I tried to set up the Belkin.

At first, the Belkin went for 1 or 2 days without needing a reset, but now it just loses the connection after a few minutes. However, I can use the Belkin router without it being connected to the modem, and all of my computers can see each other. I was even doing a lot of VNC over the Belkin, and it never once needed to be reset.

I have updated my router to the very latest firmware, version 8.01.21, and also reset to the default settings the router. Yet the problems persist. Is the WAN manager in the router broken, or is Comcast messing with me. I have cloned the WAN MAC address of the ethernet card in my desktop to the router.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Belkin Router Disconnects WAN after 2 minutes

You have already done all the standard things to try to get it working again. You could try the reset to factory default settings one more time, but it's time to be shopping for your next router.

I have a Linksys router that disconnects every 45min to 1hr & 15 min. Very annoying. Doesn't matter whether I'm using the computer or not. So I have to disconnect pwr. to the modem and router - wait a min. then connect pwr to modem and router and wait a min. and I'm back on line... what's going on...?? Without the router it never disconnects.
I have cable from Comcast an eMachine using XP home.

A:Linksys router disconnects about every hour.

You may be able to solve the problem by setting the router back to the default configuration. Somebody may have changed the settings on it which cause it do act in that way. Somewhere in the router's configuration, they should be an option to restore factory settings or something similar. Try doing this. If you don't know how, contact the retailer or consult the user manual.
If you do this and the problem persists, the problem may be your service provider (ISP). They could have problems due to a lack of servers or too many users. Try contacting them to resolve the issue.

Not sure whether this is gaming or connection problems, so feel free to move if it's in the wrong place.

Several times over the last couple of weeks both during the day and in the evening, I have been disconnected from the world of warcraft and ventrilo server. There are no latency issues in game, it just suddenly disconnects me requiring me to login again. The problems started when I switched to NTL and the 1mb connection (which should be more than enough) and had to use a router rather than connecting both PCs to the BT cable modem.

My partner has the same problems but the disconnects aren't simultaneous, they aren't timed and seem random (both from ventrilo and the server). Other programs such as teamspeak and msn messanger are unaffected.

Use the built in XP firewall, and a sitecom DC-202v5 router. I tried setting up port forwarding/static IPs and that didn't help. Playing without the router stopped the disconnects though. The cables were used when we had a BT modem and they were fine then. My network card is a TE100-PCBUSR 32-Bit Cardbus PC Card and that has also been fine before so the problem isn't there. Both PCs have Ethernet connections to the router. So today I tried a new router (without port forwarding), figuring that was the problem and the disconnects were worse

My router is often getting disconnected from the internet and it cannot connect again before I reboot it. It is an Encore ENTR-104-2 router and I set it to reconnect automatically - however when disconnected it does connect automatically (and neither manually if I try) and I have to reboot it to be able to connect again. I bought this router a few months ago and did not have any problems until the past few weeks, when it has started getting disconnected every 3-5 days. I have tried downloading a new firmware from the Encore site, but did not find any for my exact model, and the nearest one I found was not accepted by my router.

I contacted my ISP who stated there is no problem at all with my connection.

A log of my router is reproduced below. It was taken when I found my router disconnected, and I even tried to reconnect manually, but to no avail. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
