I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This afternoon I left my Elitebook open and running on the table and when I returned half an hour later the screen was black. I figured it had gone to sleep but when I moved my mouse nothing happened. I pushed the power button, still no response. Even after holding the power button for an extended period of time nothing happened, aside from the power led blinking for a couple of seconds. I've already tried removing the battery etc, but it didn't work. All help is appreciated.

I was thinking of upgrading the RAM in my Elitebook 8650w. I know the type of memory I need (DDR3 PC-10600 1333 Mhz) but I was wondering how many strips are build in already?I got the quad core version so my laptop has 4 slots, from which 2 are under the keyboard and I dont want to take the laptop apart. My laptop has 4 GB of RAM this moment. My question is, are there 2 strips of 2GB DDR3 RAM already installed or just 1 strip of 4 GB? Or is this something varying from factory to factory?

Yes, DDotDacherDash has a very good point to use the Support Assistant. Bur if you are like me, and you uninstalled all unnecessary software, you can also run the free Crucial memory scanner that will scan your PC and report the same info without installing any software. http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ Paul

I have a laptop that will not charge the battery with the AC Adapter. I have tried different combinations between two chargers and two batteries and I always have the same results. The only time it will charge is when I connect it to my docking station which is a Hewlett-Packard (HP) NZ222AA - HSTNN-I10X 120W Advanced Docking Station. The charger I have is an HP PA-1151-09HA TPC-LA52 Adapter. The second charger is from another laptop. That is also the charger used in the docking station. That is an HP PA-1231-66HJ. I have tried both of these chargers in my EliteBook 8570p and they were both able to charge that laptop.  The laptop will run with the charger, without the battery. The only message the battery icon displays is "No battery detected". If I then attach the battery with the laptop still on, the message will change to "xx% and not charging. It will then run on battery power until it dies. At that point, it will turn off. If I followed the same scenario but unplugged it after attaching the battery, the message with change to "xx% and in use".  If I try to plug it in after that, it will continue to say "xx% and in use". It will not change back to "xx% and not charging". If the laptop was started with the battery in and then I plug it in, it will always say "xx% and in use". If I start the laptop with a battery and the charger, it will say "xx% and in use". I have tried updating the bios to VERSION: F.28 because I found an article that w... Read more

Hello,i have problem with my EliteBook 8560w(With dual boot Windows 7 64bit and Linux Mint 17.3 if its important). When I plug it in AC charger it turns on by itself and after 2-3 sec. it shutsdown without warning. After shutting down the laptop can't be turned on using the power button. This occurs everytime I plug it in the charger. I get the same problem when I place the battery. I tryed the following: removing RAM, removing HDD, removing BIOS battery. Everytime the laptop turns on itself immediately when plugged in then shuts down after 2-3 sec. Its not heating problem either, because fan check is passing and I have recently replaced heatsink paste. When I plugged off the power button from the motherboard, the laptop stopped turning on when pluged in, but there is no way I can turn it on. Any suggestions what can be the cause of the problem and what solution can I try?Thank you in advance.

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me diagnose this problem with my 8560W:It randomly hard locks up - ie the mouse/keyboard input stop and music playback freezes - about 10 seconds later the machine turns right off.  I haven't noticed any pattern to when it does it - sometimes it'll go for a week with no problems, other times it'll freeze before the windows sign-in screen. I've tried a fresh windows install (but have also seen the lockups in safe mode) so I don't think it's a bad driver issue. There is nothing meaningful in event viewerI suspected it might be an SSD failing - so tried another and had the same issues. I've seen the lockups on battery, and with both the power adapters I have - also on AC with the battery removed.I've run the built-in efi extensive diagnosis a few times - all passing completely. I have cleaned out the heatsinks with compressed air - though they didn't look too bad.  Keeping an eye on CPU temperatures - it does lock up some times when the temperatures are relatively low. Something I've noticed (and I don't know if it's a red herring or not) is that the system fan tends to not spin as much as it used to - ie I don't notice hearing it.  I've tried to roll back my BIOS - but haven't been able to - in Windows it tells me I can't go back, and in 'bios' it tells me it can't find the signature. Any help at this point would be appreciated.  I'd hate to have to throw the system out - it is still a ve... Hi, I have had my Elitebook for almost 5 years now. It currently runs Windows 10 Pro 64-bit with 16 GB of RAM. I'm still running on the installed Hitachi 500 GB HDD, but it's getting a little slow for my taste and I'm worried it might fail at any time. I've been hoping to replace the 500 GB HDD with a 500 GB SSD from Samsung by cloning it, then wipe the old HDD completely, and THEN replace the optical bay with a new 2nd HDD of some unspecified capacity. My problem now: I have about 300 GB's worth of data (went to an engineering school). I spoke to an HP rep on a live chat who told me that the largest supported capacity for an SSD (that can only be in the primary slot) is 256 GB and the largest supported capacity for an HDD in the replacement bay is 500 GB. Rather than move and link my entire USER's folder to the 2nd HDD (which is possible but still confusing for me at this point), I'd like to get a second opinion from someone in the HP community. Is the capacity limitation a matter of drive height? BIOS limitation? Is it still possible to get a 500 GB SSD instead? I've seen in various forums that the user had a larger drive than suggested. Thanks.

Dear EliteBook users,Did anyone try - and succeed - adding some memory module to the primary memory slot underneath the keyboard of an EliteBook 8560w?I needed some extra memory and successfully added two modules to the slots below the bottom cover. But I needed more, and had to add it to the remaining slot just below the keybord. For that I had to remove the keyboard, but that turned out to be an impossible task. The user-guide ("Getting Started", p.45 and on) tells you how to do that, but that is definitely not correct. For instance, there is no "keyboard release cut-out", as indicated in p.46. Also the force you have to exert on the keyboard back-side is dangerouly hight (dangerous for the keyboard and for your fingers). Googling for that did not help. In fact, a bit surprisingly, I have found other two user-guides for the same model, all of them with different technics to remove the keyboard, and all of them inapropriate. To make things worse, HP support in the Netherlands said they could do nothing for me, except sending me the same manuals I already have. And there is absolutelly no available channel to complain with HP about that!I'd be grateful for any information on that.Regards.G.Oliveira.?

Hello.I own an elitebook 8560w since 2012.I had never ever used its battery, because actually i never needed to (I used it pretty much as a desktop). Yesterday,i bought a genuine hp-battery specific for my computer. And here is the problem that occured:While my computer is ON with the battery disconnected, when i connect the battery, the power switches from ac to battery like it should, but the battery is NOT charging. Moreover,i dont have the "plugged in,not charging" problem like most of other people in forum discussions, but right after the moment i insert the battery, the charger connected to my laptop is totally ignored!Like its not connected at all! As a result,if i disconnect the battery, the laptop power doesnt switch back to the charger, but shuts down ,as it doesnt "see" any power supply. Not only that, but even if it shuts down it will not start up,until i disconnect and re-connect the charger (maybe because it is still waiting to get power from battery which was disconnected and is not switching to the charger supply). Finally,i ran a battery test in hp connection manager and result was that battery is "OK". I have my laptop on dual boot (Windows-7-64 / Kali-linux ) and all these problems above apply to Kali as well, which leads me to the conclusion that it isnt a software problem. Also,i have to mention something important: After the original charger i had bought the laptop with, stopped working 3 years ago,i didnt buy the genuine, but a universal... I know in the past it was noted that you could not install these cards in a whitelist enabled BIOS, but has HP changed or updated the ability to install these cards on these specific older computers? If not, PLEASE HP, help your existing users. A:Intel wireless-ac 7260 with Elitebook 8560w

You still have the whitelist. It is not present in computers having an Intel Core 4th gen and higher CPU, but yours is second gen so the whitelist is still a problem for you. People have been asking for "de-whitelisted" BIOS for these machines for years and it has never happened so I can't hold out any hope it ever will.  These two devices will work: Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 802.11 3x3 a/g/n WiFi Adapter 572511-001Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205, 2x2 a/b/g/n WiFi Adapter 631954-001 The 6300 takes 3 antenna and the 6205 only two. Both are 2.4 and 5 ghz compatible devices and are pretty good wireless cards, just not 802.11ac.  https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-n-6300AGN-Wirless-THINKPAD-572511-001/dp/B01EDT6I2C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UT... https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-631954-001-Intel-PCI-express-Wireless/dp/B00TI8CMX8/ref=sr_1_1?ie... The above are very strong wireless cards, particularly the 6300 with 3 antennae if your laptop has 3 antennae. I am sure it has at least 2. I wish I could link you to a workable 802.11ac card but I cannot and these are the best you can get.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

In order to turn it on, I have to remove battery and unplug the charger, press the power button once, return the battery and press the Quick Web button. Only by doing so, the lapton turns on normally.   Couple of other things to notice as well. First, when the Laptop enters the energy-saving mode, it shuts down completely. Second, the Windows 7 welcome sound comes late (roughly 5-6 min. after boot-up) I know that these symptoms might be caused by different concurrent issues, but I would appreciate it, if you can help me out with this case.  Thank you in advance

A:removed network adapter in windows 98

Hi,
You may simply need to set the CDROM drive as the first priority for booting...this is done in the system's BIOS settings, also known as the Setup....this area is reached by pressing a special key or couple of keys at once when you first see text on the screen, and MOST screens will tell you what to hit "To enter Setup, press DEL" is a very common key to enter BIOS....
Look for a message when you start up about hitting a key or something like F10....F2.....etc.
What brand of computer do you have....some of them do NOT display the message to enter the BIOS, but we can help you find out what keys to hit quickly.
The MAKE and MODEL are important, so post that info if you need to go that route...
Need to clear something up...do you mean you physically removed the Network card from the inside of computer, or do you mean from something like the Device Manager list? Or, from the Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs...OR> the Network part of the Control Panel?

You may have an added in card, Network Adapter OR a permanent, soldered on chip network device...and you may have removed the drivers for that, which could I suppose throw the system out of whack, please explain what you mean by "removed network adapter" OK?
There are also things like Dial Up networking adapters...
that would mess up the Internet use...is that the problem? It is very easy to reinstall DialUp adapter or all of DialUpNetworking...let me know, OK/

My computer's been running fine for several months without me changing or even touching any piece of hardware except dusting off fans.

A few weeks ago I, for some unknown reason (still hadn't touched anything), could no longer recover from standby. Instead, my computer, apart from the flashing (and later, just plain green) power indicator, had shut completely off, and I had to turn it on again instead of just retuning to the login screen as usual. Note: I hadn't toyed with the standby-button configuration either.

Okay, I can live without standby, but now the real problem: Often, not always, after my comp.'s been shut down, my mother board shuts off as well (the light indicator turns off without me touching the I/O button) and the only way I can bring power back to it, so I can turn on the comp., is by flipping the I/O switch x number of times. It's on but it flashes a little, but becomes stable once I hit the power button.

Again, I haven't touched a single piece of hardware, wire or anything, so I have a really hard time seeing, what could be causing this. The only thing I can think of is a bugged power supply.

I'll appreciate any input. Thank you.

A:Poweroff after shutdown

This is just my own observation and please don't run out and buy a new motherboard just on my ststement; but, my experience has been that, although it is sometimes the power supply, it seems to me to more often be a failing main board. But, before I replace a main board, I always run a test of individual components--hard disk, memory, etc.

You can get an inexpensive power supply tester at www.cyberguys.com.

The hard disk manufacturer usually has free testing tools available from their web site.

You can test memory with a free utility called MEMTEST86.

Well my HP a320n is screwin up again...
The current problem is when i select shutdown from shutdown menu and click turn off in XP, it does so, but not all the way. Windows will unload and the monitor will go black, it may not be halting either. The computer does not power off. Everything stays on, i can still open the cdrom drive and everything. For the time i have been just having to hold down the power button for awhile and that will power it off. I want it to go back to the way it used to (fully shutdown). Don't know what made it do this but i'm sure someone here will know how to fix it.

Thanx in advance.

Shutdown but no Poweroff

Since I bought this computer every Shutdown had a Poweroff, till the last 2 days. If I push the button on the computer I get a Poweroff instead of a Shutdown, Poweroff. I had made 3 Partitions with Partition Magic. 98SE on the first, XP on the second, and misc on the third. It worked fine. It does Automaticaly go in to sleep mode. Shutdown, Poweroff works in 98SE, but not in XP. Even in Safe Mode. I installed the KB826939 update, then uninstalled, with no change. I added another User Account, which I use. Removed all users except Administrater, and it did not help. Put back one user as Administer. Opened Device Manager, and Clicked the plus next to Computer. It shows 2.
1- Advanced Configuration And Power Interface (ACPI) PC.
2- Standard PC.
I only have 1 Computer. This not fatal, but I liked it the other way.

My laptop immediately shuts down when the AC adapter is removed, and there is a brand new battery in the laptop. The laptop hard drive was corrupted, so it was replaced with an SSD and a windows 10 OS. At first, I thought the battery was bad, so i bought an HP certified battery, and now it is telling me that it's plugged in and not charging. So now I believe I'm missing a driver. I tried running a test on the battery through the bios, and it got hung up on the battery test, so i performed an extensive test on the whole unit, and it said the battery wasn't installed. Then I tried to run a battery test through HP Support Assistant and then a Blue Screen Error apeared. The "stop code was: DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL.  What failed: ACPL.sys" And unfortunately, because of the new install of the hard drive, The HP Recovery manager is not installed because this application only comes with factory laptops and is not avaliable for download through the HP Website. What im looking to do, is to have the laptop be able to run on the battery.

A:Laptop Immediately shuts down when AC adapter is removed

Understood but a battery does not need a driver for simple operation. All that happens with pure hardware. The battery will work and charge if everything is good even without a hard drive in the system. You can prove that to yourself. Remove the hard drive if possible and try to charge the battery and run the system on it. If you still can't, then it is a problem with the motherboard and not with Windows.

Hello guys,

I'm using Windows XP in an embedded application. The power supply used does not support any control from the CPU or whatever.

That is why I need to desactivate the poweroff function when i shutdown the computer, and want to have the message 'it is safe to turn off your computer now'.

I tried to do some modifications (registry) like suggested on the web, but nothing worked until now. Do you have any suggestions??

Thanks
Julien

disable the APM (Advanced Power Management) in the display properties / Screen Saver / Power / APM. One thing! On some computer hardware this will produce a blue screen. If it dose just re-enable it.

It's kinda an odd problem, and also is on XP Media Center, not 7.
When booting up the computer, it till freeze on boot up when the Netgear WN121T is plugged in, when you remove it the computer boots fine.
I thought a BIOS update might help because it would freeze the bios start up, but now it freezes XP's boot up aswell.

Please go to this site: http://www.s3graphics.com/en/index.jspThen click on the link that says "Drivers", select your video card chipset and follow the directions to download and install them.As long as it was only the video/display adapter that was hosed, this should fix it right up for you.

A:biz coach virus removed now my network adapter keeps becoming disabled

Hello heavenseden -Can I ask how you know this is a biz coach virus ?Has the infection been identified by any particular program, or have you had it removed by anyone, or any program ?The "infection" you mention is quite hard to find by internet searches - Download Security Check by Screen317 from HERE* Save it to your Desktop.* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.Note: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.  Please download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop and run it.Close any Firefox browsers you may have openCheckmark ALL of the following boxes:•Flush DNS•Report IE Proxy Settings•Reset IE Proxy Settings•Report FF Proxy Settings•Reset FF Proxy Settings•List content of Hosts•List IP configuration•List last 10 Event Viewer log•List Installed Programs•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.•List Minidump Files Click Go and copy / paste the result (Result.txt).  Thank You -

Hello everyone,

I need some serious help. I am building my first computer and ran into a HUGE problem, the system cuts off at various times after starting. It usually doesn't make it to load the OS. I tried entering the BIOS, which only worked once and then it cut off. I have emailed tech support and am waiting for a response. I have online classes that will be starting soon and need this system running today.

If anybody is willing to help me here are the specs of my system:
Case: Aspire X-Navigator w/ 500W
MB: Giga-byte GA-81848P775-G
CPU: Intel P4 3.0 GHz w/ Zalman heatsink
Graphics: ATI Radeon 8????
SOund: Santa Cruz
HDD: 2, one w/40GB & one w/160GB
CD/DVD: 2

I also am unsure if I possibly incorrectly connected the Floppy drive (which is DELL, sucks!) because I don't know if the cable is connected the correct way and if that would cause the problem.

Anybody willing to help please do.

A:System irregular poweroff stages - NEED HELP!

ok afew things to check .

1. is the four pin power conncector plugged in? that would be the one close to the CPU that intel based chipsets require.

2. are the Optical drives properly jumpered? one set to master and the other to slave?

3. are the hard drive's jumpered properly? ( in reality here I would say ditch one of the drives for now and go with one drive to install widows on. you can add th eother drive later.

4. since you listed the power supply with the case I am assuming it came with the case? those are usually garbage and it could potentially be the source of your problem.

5. in the bios set the bios to "fail safe defaults" or what ever the default setting is for the bios.

6. for now just ditch the floppy and yes it being incorrectly installed can casue boot problems. ( in fact I would do this first to see if it solves the problem)
