I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I still have Office 2013 which I haven't even bothered to install yet let alone use, 2010 I use on occasion so I won't be taking an interest in 2016 for a while yet.

Microsoft Releases December 2016 Windows Virtual Machines

Microsoft has just released new Windows 10 virtual machines that are available right now on the Windows Dev Center either with an evaluation license or as licensed products.
The evaluation version of these virtual machines can be used until April 8, 2017, and include Windows 10 Enterprise version 1607, Visual Studio 2015 Community Update 3, Windows developer SDK and tools, Microsoft Azure SD for .Net, Windows Bridge for iOS and samples, as well as Bash on Ubuntu on Windows.

On the other hand, the licensed virtual machines come with Windows 10 Pro version 1607 (Anniversary Update), but you obviously need a license to use them. For everyone else, the evaluation version is just fine because it comes with the same tools without the need for a license. Nevertheless, they expire after a while.

The virtual machines are available in Hyper-V, Parallels, VirtualBox and VMWare versions, and are obviously shipped in very large packages since they contain all of the above. The VMWare enterprise evaluation version, for example, has 21.7 GB in size.

?Start coding sooner with a virtual machine prepped for Windows 10 development. It has the latest versions of Windows, the developer tools, SDKs, and samples ready to go,? Microsoft explains on the Dev Center.

The purpose here is to empower developers with the necessary tools to build Universal Windows Platform apps easily, so hopefully more of them would download these virtual... Read more

Hi  Newbie in UK here and need some pointers on this subject, MS Office Home & Business 2016  I'm in the process of buying a new laptop with Win 10 to replace my aging Dell on Vista (yes, its ancient!). I have found another Dell that I want to buy but adding the additional Office H&B 2016 significantly bumps up the price. So my query is: 1. Buying Office H&B 2016 from an external seller that I'd found on line is significantly cheaper than from Dell or from MS. How do I know the package is a genuine one and not an imitation/fake from the external seller? 2. Okay back the end of November I downloaded a trial of the new Office. According to Microsoft it would not interfere with my Office XP and that when I had used the product x number of times it would no longer work and basically uninstall itself if I did not buy it.

Everything was fine until the trial ran out and I followed the uninstall directions. Now when I start my computer across my desktop runs a bunch of boxes before it finally stops at one that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'Microsoft Office XP Small Business' disk and click OK."

Problem for me is that disk is with everything else I own in a storage unit almost 1,800 miles away!(long story) Is there any way I can fix this computer software problem without having to buy new?

Can you explain how something like this happened because Microsoft has no answer.

Thank you

Microsoft has already announced a ton of exciting stuff this week, but the company isn't done yet. Today, it announced that the next version of its fully-featured Office suite of desktop PC applications will be called Office 2016.

Microsoft has been testing the new version of Office internally with a handful of its key partners. Images that leaked last year suggest the new release won't rock the boat too much in terms of design, although customers can expect to see a range of new features and improvements.

The company said today that it "will have more to share on Office 2016 in the coming months", confirming its earlier promise of releasing the new applications "in the second half of 2015" ? perhaps coinciding with the launch of Windows 10, which is expected around the same time.

Although Microsoft did not publicly show its new Office 2016 desktop applications this week, it did unveil its new suite of touch-friendly Office apps for Windows. As with the touch-optimized Office apps on Android and iOS, they lack the complete feature set of the desktop applications, but they still offer many of the features that users need most often for creating, editing and sharing documents.

As Universal Windows apps, they'll be available not just on Windows 10 PCs, notebooks, and tablets, but also on smartphones. Microsoft shared a few images of the Office touch apps for Windows 10 today, showing how they'll look on handsets and devices with l... Read more

The mouse snap-to feature I am referring to is this: "When enabled, this setting causes the mouse pointer to snap-to the default button of the active application window."

I have a Windows 7 desktop that I used Microsoft Office 2007 on for a number of years. The mouse snap-to feature worked with Office 2007 as well most (probably all) other applications. Last year I upgraded the Windows 7 desktop to Microsoft Office 2016 only to find the mouse snap-to feature does not function with the newer office suite.

Late last year I bought a new Windows 10 desktop computer and installed Microsoft Office 2016 on it. The mouse snap-to feature works on most (probably all) of the applications on this newer computer except . . . you guessed it . . . Microsoft Office 2016.

Is there a way to enable/disable the mouse snap-to function in Microsoft Office 2016? Is there a way to activate it in Office? Does the mouse snap-to function work for other users in Microsoft Office 2016?

Thanks.

That depends on how you plan on reinstalling Windows 10.

Do it this way and you lose everything, including all your data files and Office 2016 completely, including updates. You will have to reinstall everything:
Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums

Do it this way, and you only refresh Windows 10 itself and nothing else should be affected, including Office 2016:

You have to have the right version. I can't remember which one(s) will do it, I don't think retail or oem versions will. I think they have to be volume license version. To check if your version will, put the disk in the drive, and go to a command prompt. Change to your cd drive, and type setup /a. This will start the administrative setup if it's available. You can type in the product key once, and it will enter it for each pc you install it on from that location. Works quite well.

Key findings from the Webroot 2016 Threat Brief include:

Malware and potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) have become overwhelmingly polymorphic, with 97% of malware morphing to become unique to a specific endpoint device. By changing attributes to evade detection, polymorphic threats pose a major problem for traditional, signature-based security approaches, which often fail to discover singular variants.
Approximately 50 percent of Webroot users experienced a first contact with a zero-day phishing site, as compared to approximately 30 percent in 2014. This data indicates that zero-day phishing attacks are becoming the hacker?s choice for stealing identities.
Technology companies, including Google, Apple and Facebook, were targeted by more than twice as many phishing sites as financial institutions, such as PayPal, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America. These tech companies are targeted because the same login credentials are often used to access many other websites, resulting in multiple compromised accounts with each phishing victim.

maddie_z7 Some of the tech sites are reporting more failures than successes with this latest Update, which basically is the installation of a new version of the OS and migration of stuff from the old version to the new. I ran into problems like this on my desktop, and it's been running Win10 since the very early days of the Insider program -- all without any problems, including update after update. The consensus on the community forums is that this is a conflict with Windows Defender updates being delivered at the same time as the Anniversary Update. The solution (which I have used successfully) is the following: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help1) Use this link to download the Windows Media Creation Tool: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win102) Using that tool, create a USB stick or DVD of the version of Win10 that matches what you have installed3) Disconnect your PC from the Internet -- either by disconnecting the networking cable, or by disabling WiFi -- this is Important!4) Insert the Win10 media you created, find the "drive", right-click on the setup.exe program -- to start the Update5) Sit back and wait -- this can easily take a half hour or more6) Your PC will restart at least once during the UpdateThis is basically running something known as a Repair-Install -- which retains all your data and applications.Good Luck

My 13-A013CL laptop (8 gb memory, 500 GB SSD) refuses to upgrade to Windows Anniversary Edition.  All methods in posting have no effect:

Tried Media Creation with Windows Defender turned off, network off and also tried on-no luck.  Am part of the WIndows Insider Preview and will not upgrade past OS Build 10586.494.  No upgrades since 7/13. All other HP desktops upgraded fine including Surface 3.  Guess I'll just hang in there until a viable fix is released.

Also tried the above with the original SATA drive with no luck!!

According to all sources that I could find on-line, it appears that rules are part of pst file.

However, this does not happening in my case.

I use outlook 2016 (part of MS office 2016) and have several accounts linked with this ? From my ISP (POP), Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail. I have rules only for account from my ISP.

Recently I deleted my Hotmail account, removed it from my outlook, deleted associated ost file. Then I had second thought and re-activated this hotmal account the following day. Added this to my outlook. To my surprise all rules vanished. Not a single rule remained. I did NOT have any rules setup for Hotmail account. Even column details for message folders (part of setting) got changed.

I decided to check further. Copied my pst files to another computer which had same version of outlook installed and has exactly the same setup.

Now I added some rules on my 1st computer. Checked the 2nd computer. The same rule appeared there. That means pst file does not contain rules.

So, Where are they?

Hope someone can help me. I am lost!!
Thanks

I'm having a Skype job interview next. The guy interviewing me is using Skype for Business. I have Skype installed on my home computer but not the business kind, just regular Skype. The guy sent me an email link to click on which says "Join Skype Meeting" - I tried clicking on it just to see what happened -- even though it's not the day for the interview -- and I got these screen messages:

"How would you like to join your meeting? "Install and join with Skype meetings app (web)" -- "Join with Skype for Business (desktop")

I've never used Skype this way before -- I've always had someone Skype me in advance of the interview, ask to be added to my "contacts" list, then they Skyped me at the designated time and I had my Skype already open to receive.

What do I do? Do I click on his "Skype for Business (desktop) link? Do I first have to open my Skype program on my laptop or install something else?

This old Luddite is really worried about screwing my interview up. Any help is GREATLY appreciated?

Hi Geeks,

Greeting!!!

I tried finding addon of skype for business to the outlook, but it is very difficult to find the addon.

I found a skype plugin in that web named with the plugin for outlook, I installed that but somehow the outlook not <g class="gr_ gr_28 gr-alert gr_spell gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" data-gr-id="28" id="28">recognize</g>

now the addon is available.

Please explain why the addon is not involved in the outlook in late installation.
