Vista not closing properly/freezing - Malwarebytes/Avast freezing

Q: Vista not closing properly/freezing - Malwarebytes/Avast freezing

Hello - I could do with some advice, I think.

Some basics first:

Dell Inspiron 1525 with 3GB RAM, running Vista

Recently I've had problems where my laptop has frozen during normal operation - nothing fancy, just surfing etc. It sometimes doesn't shut down properly either.

I have been using the radialpoint safecare software that Virgin Media supply in the UK as part of their broadband package. For a few months now the anti spy and anti virus s/w have failed to load, so I have relied on MSE. As I say, some problems have started to appear.

MSE told me that on 15/11/2010 i had a trojandownloader which was removed.

Some pals advised I would be better trying Malwarebytes or Avast. I tried the former and on scanning it stuck while looking at wklnhst.dat (something to do wth MS Works I think). I had to power off and on. It did a chkdsk which came up with a number of actions that looked like it was trying to fix something (sorry). I rand MBAM again and it got further then froze while looking at msvcr80.dll.

Power off/on again.

OK, then I tried avast, which seemed to get about 38% through then froze.
Power off/on again.

SOmeone suggested rkill would kill any trojan processes that might be causing a problem - t did knock off a couple of things (one by sun and another by ms). Malwarebytes again - crashed as before.

Struggling now!

Welcome any advice at all.

Preferred Solution: Vista not closing properly/freezing - Malwarebytes/Avast freezing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can you try running MBAM in Safe Mode?

You can get to safe mode via hitting F8 just after the BIOS Post screen/Dell Splash Logo.

The problem seems to be that when I close the lid it will freeze while trying to hibernate. The system lights will all stay lit up, and the fan usually keeps spinning. Usually it completely shuts down by itself after a short time, and upon opening the lid it has to restart.

It doesn't always create a dump file, and the only thing I can guess is that I'm jostling the hard drive while setting it down on my desk after closing the lid, but the shutdown isn't consistent, and I'm not tossing it down.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

A:Freezing upon closing lid

Hi isakilla and welcome to SF!
I looked at your 26 dumps and they're all basically identical errors
. About 50% blames
SynTP.sys Thu Jul 15 20:01:32 2010 (4C3FA15C)
, which is your touch pad driver and the rest blames
NETw5s64.sys Mon May 31 15:05:02 2010 (4C04085E)
which is your Intel WiFi driver.

Basically the system complains about "having a rug pulled from under your feet" I'm not a laptop expert per se but I wonder how recent you are on your Windows updates?
For now I would recommend the following:

Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Remove Daemon Tools following this tut: DuplexSecure - FAQ
You can always replace it with one of the following programs which don't rely on a rootkit like driver

Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview
SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive
Gizmo Central -- Enliven your PC

Finally run this to make sure the system files are ok:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker (until it comes up clean that sometimes takes ~ 3 or 4 times)

If that all doesn't help you should enable Driver verifyer to flush out the real culprit:
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
and post the new jcgriff2 report

I would be very grateful in you could help me with a problem which has recently developed, I run an Acer Aspire 3692 laptop with XP Prof with SP3 and ie8,
the problem is that when you try to close off the page it just stay's there, the same when i have checked my emails it will not close off, i have to hold the power button down and switch it off and restart it, i am having to do this every 5min which is getting quite annoying, i have tried the system restore, but the programme operating the registry cleaner has only kept a recent back up which is still the same,
I noticed once! when it started to reboot up i just caught glimpse of something which disappeared as quick, which i thought said application incorrect (this was to do with skype) i haven't seen it since though also when it did close off the odd once or twice the internet explorer icon on the desktop stayed as if i had selected it even when i went to a blank part of the screen and click on nothing it stayed as if i had highlighted it. When i have finished writing this thread when i go to close it off it will just stay there until i power it off. A fortnight ago this was running ok. I can't afford a new computor or new programmes etc please can you help, I am disabled and off work long term and need to use the computor everyday. Hoping you can help me!

System: MicroSoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
RAM: 512 MB
Processing Speed: 1.53 GHz
Iexplore Version: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp.050928-1517

Sometimes, throughout the day, my computer will automatically restart (unless I have restart on system error turned off). After it finally boots up again, I get a System Error message. The only information it gives me is "Unknown Device Driver." I've tried updating every driver, but the problem still persists.

Although this is a minor problem, it gets quite frustrating. While I'm using my browser, (Iexplore or Mozilla) my window will just close, without warning. Any solutions to this would be much appreciated.

This occurs most frequently. Whilst anyone is doing anything on the computer, it will randomly freeze. I have confirmed it is not a video card error, as the whole computer freezes.

I've scanned for spyware and malware, as well as for viruses. No viruses were found, and all spyware/malware was deleted. I also cleared cookies, temporary internet files, and history, yet the problems still occur.

Any solutions are appreciated. If I need to post more information about a certain thing, tell me and I will do so.

Thank you very much!

How long since you took a can of air and blew the dust bunnies out of all fans, heatsink, power supply, etc.? That might be a good first step to see if that helps.

Then, download the SensorView program under my signature and post the temperatures, the fan speeds, and the voltages. Try the temps for both at-rest, and under-stress like playing a game.

Post back with questions/concerns.

Hello everyone,
As my title indicates, Avast keeps freezing while it scans. I've done a smart scan twice today and both times they freeze at 50%. It's frozen right now as I speak and I tried exiting it, even trying to use the Task Bar to do it, but it doesn't work. I'm using Avast Free Antivirus 2015. I also want to add that I'm having issues with my Google Chrome. Whenever I click on it, a window won't pop up, or it'll pop up much later. I've been having this problem since around the beginning of the week. My computer is a Dell Inspiron15 5000 Series that I got around July 2014.
What should I do?

A:My Avast keeps freezing

I would also like to add that a friend of mine told me that these issues might have been caused by malware. I'm not sure though.

I have a HP laptop model 15-af131dx and for a few days now I'm having some issues with it. When I open the browser everything's fine but as soon as I click on favorites my computer freezes and none of my favorites appear on the screen then after a few minutes the browser closes. When I reopen the browser I get the message "close all tabs and start fresh" and that's what I do but each time I have the same issue all over again. I can search and access websites but I can't use my favorites. I have another similar issue with the search box and after I start typing a few words it freezes and close. I ran various antivirus and malware programs "windows defender, Eset online scanner, Malwarebytes" and also the command "sfc/scannow" but I haven't found any virus... I don't what the issue is and I would really appreciate some help.

A:Browser freezing and closing windows 10

What browser are you using? Have you tried other browsers and get the same issues? Have you tried either resetting your browser or uninstslling and reinstalling? Does the freezing happen while doing anything else on the computer?

Hello! I've been having difficulty with my laptop for a few months now. It's running with Windows XP Media Center Edition.

For the past few months, its been very slow to load up when I turn it on, Firefox (or Explorer when I rarely use it) takes extraordinarily long to start up, and it frequently crashes. I have Photoshop 7.0, and I generally have to close Firefox before opening it, otherwise one or both will crash. In general, programs crash or freeze very often. Sometimes they'll just close with no warning. When I have folders open, they almost always close with no warning. My computer also isn't staying logged in to most sites, my banking website has even said it doesn't recognize this computer a few times, which worries me.

Selecting Restart inevitably takes forever before my computer actually restarts. Pulling my computer out of Standby or Hibernation also can take forever. Opening new programs is always an issue, though. If I dare to click anywhere after opening something new (Firefox, Photoshop, Explorer, etc. ), it will freeze and sometimes cause the whole computer to freeze as well.

I regularly run (and update) Ad-Aware 7.0, but if it finds anything it never seems to be much problem. I have AVG free and Windows Defender running in the background all the time. I had SpyBot, but read a lot of conflicting opinions on it, so I deleted it recently. I used to have LimeWire and uTorrent, but I hadn't used either in a long time, so I delete... Read more

Now the problem:

Everytime I open a game the game freezes for about 10-30 seconds, and then begins to load.. This also happens when closing takes about ten to thirty seconds, and then finally closes...
This happens with every single game I had.. This didn't happen in the beginning but started about three to four months ago.. I searched for other threads in different forums, but I couldn't find anything similar to my problem...

Please, don't hesitate to reply

Hello Andrew.

Are these high performance games or smaller ones? You don't have a ton of RAM, and your CPU is not extremely powerful. Does this happen with movies? Anything else?

You could also try a defrag and registry defrag.

Hey, These past few days my Computer has been acting strange. Every now and then my computer Freezes and the mouse can't move, which is sometimes followed by a restart. Also, when I'm playing a Game It will freeze or close and I'll have to restart the PC by holding the on/off button.

This might be because I installed some software that Makes XP look like Vista by changing the system files that make XP look how it is. I installed it in safe mode like It said, and I had gotten some diagonal lines across the sreen which is followed by a restart. I've uninstalled that Software, Done a System restore and I get those Problems (Freezing, Crashing)

I think it is linked to my Graphics Card, because I had to run Windows in safe mode, Uninstall the drivers, and install them again. It helps for a while then Windows does the same Freezing thing.

Mywebsearch had also been on the computer beforehand, and I had been in the process of getting rid of that. Now, I followed the instructions to get rid of the Vista Security virus, but when trying to do a full scan it would always freeze. I even tried doing a quick scan but the quick scan only picked up mywebsearch.

Yesterday, I started getting Just-in-time Debugging popups. I tried Avast, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, and Spybot to remove. Didn't work. I tried StopZilla late last night...that was a stupid move...I think it was loaded with bad files. When I tried Malwarebytes this morning, it found 600+ bad files for removal, 99% of them were connected to "Whitesmoke".

Question 1: Should I remove ALL the files?

Question 2: When I tried to remove some of the "pre-check" (by M'bytes) files (seven of them), Malwarebytes froze and went unresponsive. Now what do I do?

I've started it again; it's scanning. Any advice?

I'm trying NOT to take this to a tech/shop...but if that's the only option, so be it.

Seeking any help/knowledge possible. (Note: I'm using a different computer for this message, so access to logs is impossible at the moment.)

A:Malwarebytes freezing, and other problems

Hello and welcome...Yes remove them. The WhiteSmoke web site indicates it makes English grammar correction software, translation software, and other specialized English writing tools. However, many users have reported they did not know how WhiteSmoke was downloaded or installed. From our investigation and dealings with this software we are also finding many cases of it with a TDSS rootkit infection. So depending on the severity of system infection will determine how the disinfection process goes. The web site says the software can be removed through Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features if using Vista/Windows 7 so check there first, highlight anything with the name "Whitesmoke", select Remove and restart the computer normally. This appears to work in most cases with the Whitesmoke Toolbar but not with the Translator. Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.4.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How ... Hey There.

Would appreciate you help very much here.

My laptop always hang when I shut the web browser, freeze sumtimes when I shut the window browser. Also hangs when I try installing some .exe stuff (like HijackThis, Avast, ect.) and try to remove program.

The task manager is normal; low CPU usage, normal process, system idle 90+, avp.exe 80+

I manage to install HijackThis after I pause Kapersky

This is the countless time I restart my laptop since it freezes most of the time.

I've been unable to comply with all the steps listed in the, "Am I infected" section, before posting. There are some things I have been able complete and many that I've not been able to do. The computer freezes up at different points. Sometimes while trying to start windows. When this happens, I bring up the task manager as soon as I can and that seems to help...most of the time.

I'm running Windows xp home edition. HP Laptop. IE 7 (runonce has taken over) I tried steps to go in and change runonce, but that didn't work.
I do not have a boot disk and have been unable to make one

Many of the downloads will freeze my computer.
I ran avast. 0 found
I ran spybot search and destroy and it would not work.
I downloaded malwarebytes and that would not work, but...I tried spybot again and it worked. I cleared out the malware. ran again and cleared it again.
I uninstalled malware bytes and re-installed, still did not work. Presently, it is no longer on my computer.

Once again:
1. I've cleared temp files; cleared footprints; cleared Java about a week ago
2. ran Ccleaner
3. did a disc defrag
4. Downloaded Cobian 7. Recieved error...bad site by McAfee Site advisor and blocked site
Retried site and was okay per site advisor. Tried download again. but had error message and a fix at the same time? I'm not sure. I have copied the report though

Hi, I'm pretty sure I downloaded a bad file, and now I can't run malewarebytes (it freezes during the scanning process). I got a memory dump blue screen last night and was able to reboot in safe mode. From there I tried to scan with malwarebytes and had the same problem. I am able to do a quick scan which shows no results, but the full scan does not work. I've tried to back up my files (I have been able to get some) but again, everything just freezes. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!

As a note, when I ran hijack this I received a alert saying that it was denied access to the hosts files.

Been about a week since I posted this.

Hi there,
Been a follower for awhile and have always been able to fix my computer issues after using Combofix or Malwarebytes. Recently (after travelling and returning home), I downloaded BoxSync to test out this cloud service. I had this on my work computer and decided to see how well in would sync to my home laptop. All my woes started when I tried to install this program and the computer started freezing / rebooting and also on a few occasions, experienced BSOD. I then booted into safe mode, uninstalled the program and quickly tried to use Malwarebytes to see if my computer was infected. After around 5 minutes to 10 minutes scan, the computer would freeze. I rebooted and on the next attempt, it rebooted, then on the next attempt, BSOD would occur. This cycle of occurrence was constant (even in safe mode). I attempted to use Combofix and on one attempt, the computer froze and rebooted (also happened once during safe mode).
Using TDSSKiller the report showed that there was no root infection.
I am now unable to install any new software as it would freeze halfway or reboot the computer. This also occurs when programs are loaded. Surprisingly Chrome is not infected, but I cannot use live mail on my computer. I am using Windows home premium on an Acer Aspire s3 (M52346).
Any ideas why my computer is acting this way? Most virus scans that take more than 10 minutes would result in the computer crashing, rebooting or BSOD (in some cases, when the c... Read more

I've been real careful and somehow have managed to never get hit by serious malware, but they finally got me, I was able to do a "quick scan" using malwarebytes and remove a bunch of threats they all appeared to be browser plugins and hijacking type exploits.
But when I run a full scan it freezes on a file in the subdirectory of the standard "users" directory (if u know about malware you prob know what I mean by this) not sure what the filename because it was such a long filename I couldn't see end of it, it was is in a subdirectory named "registry_machine_security" (that was as far into the filename as I could see)
I booted to safemode again and it got past that file whatever it was (it goes by so quick there is no way to see the file but I ran it multiple times and even in safe mode it was scanning through that directory and the same file number (around 47000) and whatever it was didn't freeze it in safe mode.
however around file 120000 it froze again in the "c:\system volume information\_restore\{9D106EB}\RP462\SNAPSHOT\" directory or similar (I cut the 9d106EB dir down in lenght it was much longer I didn't write the entire actual directory namedown, I just wanted to be able to search for that directory in explorer, the other dirs should be acurate though)
I'm going to try getting malwarebytes to do whatever it can but I won't go any further till I hear from someone here.  I wont run combofix or anything I get that.  I'll wait I'll onl... Read more

please advise re this problem.

I submitted a post regarding a different problem over a week ago, this problem appears to have resolved itself, but I have received no reply to my post of 18/10 and I am not sure what to do as I have all these other issues.

Should I just wait till I get a reply or is a week too long?

The other issues are that my laptop is sometimes reluctant to get beyond the desktop stage on start up, so I have to reboot which usually does the trick.
Sometimes it will not shut down after saying 'computer is closing down' and I have to just press the open/close button to close it.
Google searches keep getting redirected, mozilla firefox doesnt seem to function correctly, and neither does Internet explorer, which also fails to open my emails due to 'java script error.

i have allowed someone in my house to use this laptop for the past year or so, and now they have gone I suspect that some of the sites they visited were of a dubious nature, which may account for some of these problems???

I need this laptop to earn a living so any help or advice would be very welcome.

thank you,

Hello,Please await a reply to your earlier topic. You can update them concerning your computer issues at that time. I know how frustrating it is when your computer isn't working properly. Let me assure you that your topic isn't lost, forgotten, or ignored. We work with hundreds of logs every day, so we have devised a means of seeing only those topics that don't have responses yet. At the moment, we have nearly 500 unanswered topics, the oldest dated Oct. 14, 2010 at 8:23 pm Eastern Daylight Savings time in the U.S.A. Your log topic is dated October 18, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. using the same time zone. Our volunteer MRT team members have various levels of expertise and training, so while we try to take the oldest DDS/HJT logs, it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us would want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.Please be patient. It may take several days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notificatio... Hello If someone can help with my retarded IBM thinkpad that would be lovely.

I have had sooooo many issues with my laptop, in the 4 years I have had it, it has completely crashed at least 10 times. The last time it crashed it kept on going to a blue screen and wouldn't load up at all, I took it to an acquaintance to get fixed he said my laptop is now old and its hard drive damaged and he managed to get it working again but he said for now I should just leave it on standby when I don't need it and I shouldn't actually close it. Meanwhile he recommended getting either a new hard drive or new computer.

The newest issues of my laptop are
- I get these annoying pop up screens that lead to a commercial or open a tab to porntube.com
- I sometimes have weird commercials begin playing and I can't find where the sound is eminating from
- Firefox crashes or freezes every so 10 minutes
- My CPU is being overloaded, 70%-100% is often being used

However I must say since I took followed the opening threads recommendations these issues have ceased for the most part but firefox is still not working as smoothly as it once did. The other issues are

- I can't remove avg, I uninstalled it but its still on my laptop
- I tried downloading avast but I kept on getting error, an unfinished downloaded avast is on my program file oddly, when I went to the control panel to completely remove it and try loading avast again, it wasn't in the progams listed.
- I tried downloading ad awa... Read more

For the past couple of weeks we have been gettting random pop-ups, our computer has started freezing, Browsers are closing down at random times and the whole system seems to be running really poorly.

I have Zone-Alarm on my computer, have been running Ad-aware, AVG and spybot but I don't seem to be able to fix the issue.

I've also attached a screen print of one of the pop-ups.

If someone could have a look at my log, it would be much appreciated, thanks

Hi I have a Dell Latitude D610,
It started to freeze up some times and run very slowly. Then it started to not recognise the intel wifi adaptor, but would find on a hardware search and reinstall (sometimes ) needing new drivers??
I got to a point where due to continued freezing up and only being able to close down the laptop by pressing the power button, i decided to re install windows.
I bought the Dell refurbed and didnt get a windows CD or dell drivers and utill CD.
having got a windows SP3 dell CD (not sure sp3 was what i had before??) I did a full format of drive and install of windows. that seemed fine.
I then (via pc) went on dell website and downloaded drivers for latitude d610.
put on a cd and via reboot from cd installed them as suggested on dell site.
I started getting the same wifi issues again and after 5 days of trying still have and the freezings back now!!!
ive run a memory check scan and uniblue to repair drivers, registry issues etc.
I am now a little lost at what to do next as all i want is my old lappy back.
Please help if anyone can.

Hello, and welcome to TSG forums.
If you go into device manager, is there a yellow or red mark beside the network drivers?
You might try right clicking on the Network adapter>click on properties>remove. Immediately reboot the computer and let Windows find and reinstall the drivers for it.
Post back and let us know how it goes.

As of this post I have only seen this problem arise when Mbam's upgrade is installed with a stand alone XP OS, and not with a Windows 7 - XP dual-boot system, but that is not to say it cannot happen.

There has already been one SevenForums member that has had problems, and that is what prompts me to post.

This is what happened to me:

It has been a little over three hours since I have been running Mbam, and MSE together, and I turned off MSE's Real-Time Protection.

What I noticed was every time I went to preview/edit one of my posts/replies or go to another web site the browser (IE8) would switch to the new site, but it hung until I clicked on an open part of the tab's window.
Then the title bar would flash quickly, and the new site would snap open.

I turned off MSE's Real-Time Protection, and left the Pro version of Mbam run. I watched as the performance of the browser slowly improved to, where now the response is instantaneous with my mouse clicks to move forward or back a page/tab/or site.

Without further research I can only surmise that Mbam has a learning curve.

To give you an idea of my XP machine:

Later today I will run a full scan with Mbam, and post the results.
Until then, it is getting late for me, and I am signing off for now....

Hello all,

First off, let me say after reading through these forums I can say I have learned a bunch. There are a bunch of insightful posts here, and it's always nice to be able to learn some new things you had no idea about before. Anyhow... lets see if some of you brilliant people can help me out with this problem I'm having! Hopefully you can.
*6/15 - Was watching a Youtube video, and out of no where my computer beeped and froze completely. After turning it back on, I guess I could just tell something was not right.

*6/16 - After playing around with it the following day, I noticed how slow it became, and how everything began to freeze and show a "Not Responding" note on browsers and other programs. This started to get incredibly frustrating, as I've tried to take every precaution to protect my computer from malware/viruses etc. So to go from a lightning fast cpu with 20 applications open to being able to do nothing definitely sucks.... especially when you work from home on your computer.. ha

* Anyway, this continued on and on until yesterday, where I decided to read everything I possibly could on the net associated with this matter. I was determined to get this fixed so I could get back to working on this cpu instead of reformatting or buying a new one.

First - I Uninstalled completely - Malwarebytes (which I have used for the past year with great success) / Avast ( also have used for the past year along with Malwarebytes) / Spybot Search an... Read more

I have just re-installed all software on my computer (clean install). Running XP-Pro with all updates and lots of software - a lot is work related stuff as I work for myself - CAD etc.
I have Office Pro 2007 installed. Outlook will not shut down properly and has to be forced to shut down. Even then I have to re-boot the computer to get it to open up again. If I minimise it I cannot open it from the task bar.
I have removed and re-installed Office several times, cleaned up the registery with Norton System Works to no avail.
Everything else is working OK.
Has anyone suffered the same problem or have any ideas?

A:Outlook freezing and not shutting down properly

Hmmm..I have Office 2007 standard on 2 machines, and havent had any issues with outlook.

Does it give any error at all?

Do you have any outlook add-on installed?

Under Help have you run the Office Diagnostic?

Just throwing some ideas out there

For months now my computer seems to be struggling with some slowness. By slowness I mean applications taking longer to launch, applications freezing, and Windows taking longer to shut down. It seemed like a computer that had become junked up with drivers over a long period of time. And my email client (Eudora) and browsers (Opera classic, Firefox, and IE) seemed to take longer to react to websites. But every time I do a test at Speedtest.net, there is no slowness.
I have Norton Internet Security which is always on. I did a full scan, and it found nothing except a few infected junk email attachments. I never click on these anyway, and just delete all attachments from time to time.
Then two weeks ago my computer slid off my lap down my leg and then fell to the floor. It didn't look like much of a bump, so I was surprised to see a blue screen telling me that Windows had an unusual event and had to shut down. It was also making an image of memory onto my hard disk. I was too flustered to write down the details. So after it was done copying, I restarted it and allowed it to start normally. Everything seemed fine.
Later that day I got a screen that appeared to be a Windows status screen. Not a blue screen. Not an error screen. A screen with wallpaper and nice font, just like the welcome screen. It said "Preparing Security Options." Then after about 5 seconds, it went back to normal. The Microsoft support area contained a question about this message, and the advice was to run sfc /s... I'm running Windows 7 32bit.

The last couple of days my computer has been going crazy slow even in Safe mode. I know my way around the computer but for some reason cannot fix this.
I noticed in the event log that there was a couple of problems.

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Hate to bug you guys for help, but i have a problem that has dumbfounded me.Windows XP home edition on an ACER eee netbook. Windows and anti malware programs all up to date.Scanned with spybot/avast/malwarebytes/MCSFT security essentials/Hijack This -- all to no avail as they find nothingAvast does now catch and stop google from redirecting sometimes, but scans (full and quick) come up empty.Besides the redirect issue, the computer is also freezing up constantly when browsers are open. The browser will quit responding then explorer will appear to quit working (the explorer bar at the bottom gets bigger and quits responding) and the entire computer freezes. Also when the computer is left without use the screen will go black and must be restarted to use again.Again I hate to take up anyones time, but this dang thing has exhausted my computer knowledge. Wish I had more info to pass on but all my scans come up empty. I have downloaded Combofix but don't trust myself to use it without advice.EDIT: Moved from XP to more appropriate Am I Infected forum ~ Hamluis.

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.Now click the Scan button. My computer (Sony Vaio VGN-FS790P running Windows XP) has been having issues when I browse the Internet. I currently use Firefox and it works fine most of the time, though every now and then the browser will freeze and it tends to lock up my entire system. When I go into the task manager to end the process, the computer often then tries to run dumprep.exe without it actually doing anything besides taking up memory, and I have to force quit the process to be able to do anything. Sometimes when I attempt to restart the computer afterward, XP will not bring up the menu options for turning it off/logging out/switching user, and I end up having to do a hard reset (holding down the power button until the computer shuts down). When I try to restart after such episodes, oftentimes the computer will turn on and then not make it to the login screen. Eventually I am able to get back on (often after being prompted by the system that the computer shut down unexpectedly and it asks if I would like to restart normally or in the last known good configuration or in a variety of safe modes). Sometimes the computer works fine for a few days and other times it won't work and I have to try to restart it again. I've noticed that if the computer goes into the screen saver the problems typically restart, but if I put it in Standby mode I can usually get back on again without much trouble.I ran HijackThis and below is my logfile.Any help is greatly appreciated!Thanks,- CaseyLogfile of Tre... Hey all. I'm new here but, I've had this problem for weeks now and I've decided enough is enough.

1. About several weeks ago, seemingly out of nowhere, my internet connection started behaving incorrectly. It was occasionally having small pockets where it'd drop out. A ping test to websites such as google would give both "Reply from" and "Reply failed."

2. Internet using applications such as MSN and AIM were unaffected but a game I was playing would drop out whenever this occurred, and internet pages would either partially load or time out.

3. This error gradually became worse and worse, the time outs more frequent, to the point where MSN and AIM were only barely working. I contact my ISP and the connection was fine, the modem is fine, etc.

4. Also - another thing that occurs while my desktop PC had errors - all other machines connected to the network experience similiar errors, the dropping out of the connection. It is only when my PC is switched off or the cable removed ; that they would perform normally again.

5. Every now and then the connection would suddenly return to it's normal state. In a state where it was not performing ANY internet functions (no applications, constant ping time out) I took it to a technician. They plugged it into their modem, it worked fine for an hour, so they let me take it home. It worked perfectly for about a day, until I woke up the next morning to discover the same errors starting again.

I have a Yoga 920 Glass that started freezing, last image on the screen. Hard freeze, the only thing possible is to hard re-boot the machine using the power button. It does it within 30s to 5 min. It freezes even in BIOS mode. Any ideas? Of course any attempt at recovery fails since the machine freezes early in the process.Currently going through LENOVO support to get it fixed. Couple of issues already:No email for Lenovo support. They messed up my tech order so five business days of my warranty was wasted on me waiting for a shipping box.I can't find a written privacy policy on LENOVO for protection of my user data located on my hard drive I'm about to send to their depot for repair. On hold now for 30 min, waiting for the phone tech, to fix LENOVO's mistake to send me a shipping box.Stay tuned for morep.s. What kind of high end laptop suffers such a malfunction within one year of purchase? I only use it for e-mail, and Netflix. Very disappointed in LENOVO so far.

Hi all,

Have been having some frustrating issues with my system recently. It all started when my system started freezing with strange patterns showing up on the monitor. I thought it must have been my video card and took it back to the computer shop to test it. They agreed the video card was faulty and sent it off for warranty. In the mean time I purchased a new low-end card and the system worked fine for about a week.

I then started to get the same issues again. I returned the system again and was told there was nothing wrong with this card. They spun some crap about the card not being powerful enough to run photoshop (which is where I spend most of my time) and convinced me to upgrade to a higher-end card, which I did.

Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem and I continued to have problems. I returned the system yet again for a week or so. They tested it (with their HD and fresh install of vista) and said they didnt have any problems.

I picked the system up and used it without problems for around a week or so when the problems started to occur yet again. At the moment the system is freezing, freezing with a strange pattern on the screen (see attached jpgs) (looping audio), restarting, blue-screening (ecache.sys, IRQL not less or equal to, etc). It freezes during vista loading but sometimes makes it to the main OS environment.

I've tried reinstalling vista on a different drive and get exactly the same problems. It freezes and restarts during vista setup so... Read more

I recently built my first PC three days ago...
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both... (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

any advice would be appreciated if not I will bring to a repair shop and have them sort it out.

Hello Skytri and welcome to Seven Forums. My usual disclaimer: I'm not at expert at anything.

I'm wondering if there isn't a RAM problem. Perhaps one of the sticks wasn't seated properly, etc. You could open Resource Monitor > Memory tab and make sure all RAM is being recognized. Make sure Installed = 16384MB and the Available + Cached + Hardware Reserved is the same amount. (You are using 16GB total, correct?)

Resource Monitor

If Memtest freezes you could try a quick check for a bad RAM module. Install one stick in Slot # 1 (or whichever slot the mobo manual says to use.) Run the computer to test for freezes. Test each of the remaining sticks one at a time. If all 4 sticks work you might want to go through these troubleshooting guides. They are time consuming but many people have been able to isolate their computer problems.
