Lost Recycle Bin

Q: Lost Recycle Bin

I use Win XP Home Edition. My Recycle Bin is gone and I don' t know how to get it back.

Preferred Solution: Lost Recycle Bin

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I've been backing up data on my computer only to open up recycle bin the other day and find most of the files missing. I was very confused. Then i realised i had recently deleted 2 or 3 large files in size of 2 or more gb and that the recycle bins capacity is 4gb Has recycle bin deleted my older items because there wasn't enough space? I need to find or restore the old files. Im guessing the recycle bin dir in c: has now been modified showing the current status. Can i recover any older recycle bin dir or any files which list the files that were in recycle bin before is was modified and deleted old files? I have tried free undelete programs but they all only show the current recycle bin contents, i need to find the old contents. I also mucked around with some security settings of recycle bin and corrupted it. I had to empty it. Does this mean a new recycle bin file has been made? How can i restore the old contents.

A:Lost recycle bin items

Things shouldn't go in the trash unless you want to get rid of them. Chances are that the files have been partially or totally overwritten and unrecoverable. Any chance at recovery was lost when you kept using the machine. When files are lost, you should shut down immediately so they won't get overwritten and then move the drive to another machine for recovery.

If the recovery apps can't find anything, they are probably gone for good.

The icon to the recycle bin has been deleted from my desktop and the original recycle folder has been renamed $recycle.bin. When I open the $recycle.bin, it says the folder is empty. However, with Sniffer, I can see the deleted files are intact in this folder.

How can I recover the data and put it in a default recycle.bin?

There's a couple of things you can do. Perhaps the quickest might be to D/L Tweak UI and look within the left pane at the list. One is titled Desktop. Click it and there's another list comes up in the right side. Put a check in Recycle Bin. See if that helps.

Im using Toshiba Satellite laptop with vista home premium,

After encountering a low virus I deleted the .exe file the virus installed and some other files, however; I didn't delete anything in my registry so i'm not sure when this occured. I notice my recycle bin icon missing so I right clicked my desktop and restored the icon, but now when I lick on it, the computer window where the original recycle bin icon is..opens up each time I click on the recycle bin icon. Am I missing a drive? Should I use my system recovery disk I made when I first purchased the laptop?

I really would like to use the recycle bin the way it was originally.

I am wondering if anyone else has had the issue of when restoring multiple large files from recycle bin some of them are restored and some are lost or deleted?

has happened when i tried to restore 15 avi files of about 700mb from the recycle bin

if i remember correctly i think this happened to me once with vista as well

A:Lost files when restored from recycle bin

When you delete a file, and it goes into the Recycle Bin, the data on the hard drive is not wiped clean or moved. The sectors of the hard drive the data resides on are simply marked as "free for new data".

Now, if you did not do anything with your computer that writes to the hard drive, then all of the original data would still be intact, and if you restored those files from the recycle bin they would be whole, uncorrupted, and ready to use.

But if you wait too long, and there are writes of new data to the hard drive, those sectors with the old data could be wholly or partially over-written, and now when you go to restore the files from the Recycle Bin they would be corrupted and therefore cannot be restored.

Hi all I'm Kate and I'd be grateful if someone could help me out with a sticky problem.

I'm using Windows Vista. Version 6 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1).

A month or so ago I had some problems with the fake Windows Security virus ( calling itself Vista Security 2010 I think ) on my system, I was able to find some advice online and managed to remove it. Then 2 days ago I performed a System Restore as I was having problems with my wireless router ( turns out it was a faulty wire connection) but I think it's possible I have re-infected with this virus although it is not behaving in the same manner.

So far the things I have noticed that are not working correctly:

Recycle Bin-the icon doesn't change to 'full' when I send things to it and when I click to empty it, it displays this message, " Are you sure you want to permanently delete all of these items?" It would usually state the number of items. If I open the bin after filling it, it shows 0 objects.

Taskbar-I am unable to unlock it.

Start Menu- Switches itself back to Windows Vista view although I have selected Classic.

Windows Defender does not show in sys tray even though when opened it says it's working. After I removed the fake Security Virus, Defender would pop up in sys tray saying it had blocked some start up programs, it hasn't done this since I Restored.

Desktop- 2 Control Panel icons have appeared there and I can not delete them.

I got a external hard drive, it means it has a individual Recycle Bin in F: Drive, separate it with the Recycle Bin of the computer in C: Drive.

But my computer was installed with Windows 7 again after a reparation, and now has a new unique identifier called Security ID or SID. for example: S-1-5-21-3225745820-1949245524-1067675123-1000

When I plugin the external drive the Recycle Bin looks empty, but the hard drive has the same space in megas used in the disk.

And now the Recycle Bin folder located in the external hard drive which is linked to my previous SID number of Windows 7, is hidden. In "Folder Options" I unhide the protected files and i found the previous Recycle Bin folder with the SID number
in it, but the names of the files has changed like $I0UFUJO, $I0U9PNS, $I1I2OMR, etc. and the original path file when was erased has dissapear.

Please, let me know how to recover my previous Recycle Bin files with their original names and path location before was deleted, because I need to get some of those files and in their original location and delete the others to free space from the disk. I am
using a Virtual Machine for doing that, just in case. Thanks.

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this.

Good afternoon,
Hopefully someone has experienced this and can offer advice.

A user is deleting files, but they are not appearing in the recycle bin

- user is deleting from her computer, and not a network location, or flash drive
- computer is not partitioned - only has a "C" drive
- computer is W7 32-bit
- user is not a local admin
- Use has 6 different recycle bins (right-click on RB desktop icon > properties > recycle bin location); some of the locations are "My Pictures", "My Videos" etc.... We are not able to manage the size of
these locations.
- all of the RB locations are set to "Custom Size"
- have tried:
a. deleting everything out of the RB
b. (running as admin) RD /S /Q C:\$Recycle.bin
c. set to view hidden & system files/folders, gone to "C" and deleted the $RECYCLE.BIN folder. clicked yest at all the prompts, including: Do this for all current items

** after both b & c, rebooted the computer

So far, nothing has worked. Might anyone have any other suggestions?

I had a problem deleting an older version of Firefox. The Firefox Setup .exe file was stuck in the Recycle Bin, it wouldn't delete and it wouldn't restore. Believing that the Recycle Bin was corrupt, I used this method from the DOS prompt:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

I refreshed my Desktop and when I clicked on the Recycle Bin. While the file appeared to be missing, the Recycle Bin would not load properly so I restarted my computer.

Now when I click on the Recycle Bin icon, it points to my entire computer (exactly the same as clicking on "Computer" off the Start Menu) instead of the Recycle Bin folder.

How can I restore the Recycle Bin icon so that it shows only the contents of the Recycle Bin?

when this issue start happen? for first bet try to perform system restore using restore point
try to login using local admin PC, check if this issue also persist there
turn of antivirus and security software to check, or you can perform clean boot
try to run system file checker to fix registry issue
try to login at safe mode with networking, and check
is this issue not persist at safemode with networking, maybe 3rd party software caused this issue
is there any important data on the D drive? please backup if any. Try to reformat this drive and check
the other workaround is try to re-create user profile. Maybe you need local administrator here

I'm trying to resolve an issue involving a bunch of "illegitimate" Windows Live streams (discovered in a Stream Armor scan).

In trying to resolve the issue, I've deleted several leftover Windows Live files and registry entries (after making a backup) that weren't removed when I uninstalled Windows Live a few months ago.

For whatever reason, the files won't leave the recycle bin, and the streams are still active.

I looked inside $Recycle.Bin and found that there's a locked Recycle Bin inside it. Is this normal? Can I delete it? How?

Greetings group.
I have a 2 month old hard drive that failed on my desktop PC, taking My Documents with 7 years worth of data. I had just moved the folder to the new drive and hadn't gotten a chance to backup yet.
I'm trying to check Recycle bins on my External hard drives to see if I ever had even a partial Documents folder on one of them..
Problem: All 3 of my external hard drives have multiple recycle bins. All of the recycle bins show the same content as my local C Drive on my laptop. I am attaching 2 screenshots for your review. One shot is of the recycle bins on external drive, the other shot is a screenshot of the recycle bins on my C drive on laptop.
I'm logged in as Administrator because my normal login cannot access any of these recycle bins. And my normal login is in the Admin group. Using Windows Explorer as Administrator, I'm unable to see the Recycle bins. I can see them with my regular login. Very odd.

I'm so desperate for help. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

Click the Windows Orb in the left corner of the taskbar. Type "cmd" without the quotes. Right click the "cmd.exe" under "Programs" and select "Run as administrator".

Make sure you are at the root "C:\" and remove the folder (directory) the old fashioned way.

c:\$Recycle.Bin, Are you sure (Y/N)? y (hit enter)

Then reboot, Windows automatically makes a new empty recycle bin.

I can't even remember the program I downloaded. However, when I tried to retrieve my email, I noticed that my icon for Outlook Express had disappeared, and along with it, my email. Some of this mail seems to have been stored on Outlook, but I can't find the rest, which amounts to about 900 to 1000 pieces of important mail. And I can find any of my "sent" mail.

I sent into the control panel, and basically uninstalled Outlook Express 6,. However, my mail is still nowhere to be found.

Any suggested for getting back this important mail would be most appreciated.

Today i was trying to get rid of the login password to make easier my girlfriend's access to my pc.
I don't know what in hell i clicked but a computer nightmare began.
I think It has to do with me managing the netplwiz settings.
Suddenly i wasn't my computer's admin anymore and i was getting UAC prompts for everything, without being able to run any software. I don't know if i deleted my admin account or i just took away its admin privileges.
Of course i couldn't run elevated CMD prompt or nothing like that.

As you see the "yes button" was greyed out. So i tried to take care of that and rebooted in safe mode and logged in as admin and only the first time it worked, i mean i could login as admin. I opened an elevated CMD prompt and typed:

net user administrator /active:yes
to enable the built in Admin account

net user administrator password
to reset the admin account and make it empty.

Well, when i rebooted i find out that the built-in admin's password wasn't empty as i thought it would be i i have no idea about the password.
No only that, if i try again booting in safe mode the admin option is now password protected and i don't know the password.
I can only login with my microsoft account which doesn't have admin privileges.
The only difference is that now windows gives me the chance to enter the password everytime i want to do something, a password i don't know.

I have been infected with something for a few weeks now. When I was first infected one of those fake antispyware boxes popped up along with a hard drive failure icon. This virus has wiped out all of my pictures and files and redirects me everytime I search on the intenet. I have tried malwarebytes, avg scan, system restore, using the notepad and deleting host files then reseting my internet explorer settings ect... Nothing is working. I have attempted to read a few posts here and am obviously too computer illiterate to do anything further on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Edit: Moved topic from Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Hi All

I have a HP Touchsmart 300-1060a (Home Premium Windows 7 64 BIT) which I bought few years back. Now for the last 6 months or so I started getting issues with my machine was not displaying anything at all after turning it on. So I had to hard reset my power from the machine and then was able to see it started displaying again.

At first I suspected graphic card (NVIDIA GEFORCE) but then I did my diagnostic test and nothing was found.

One day, I started re-imaging my machine as a fresh and then after this it never came back ONLINE. I read all HP forums & even HP Online support was unable to help me to find the cause.

Because when I turn on my machine I can see the power light was on and could hear big fan noise but mo HDD activity at all.

So at this stage, I suspected either motherboard or BIOS but wasn?t 100% sure what could be the real cause because I was sure it was not due to graphic card.

So first I re-setted by my BIOS to see if it helps but it didn?t came up at all. So then I took my machine to a Computer repair shop (a friend of mine) and we detected it could be due to the regulator which supplies power to the CPU and motherboard.

So we replaced that part and now my HP Touchsmart is running fin since then.

But I have lost my HP Startup logo with options such as below:

Enter setup ? Press F10
To restore ? Press F11

Etc etc

Are you able to help me how get my original HP BIOS screen back please? ... Read more

I configured a wireless network in my house a few days ago. I am using a D-Link DIR-300 Wireless router.

Everything has been working perfectly for 2 days until just an hour ago.

Suddenly the wireless connection was lost (no internet and no connection to router possible anymore via wireless), then Vista automatically tries to reconnect --> with success. connection is there again --> everything working fine for a few minutes --> then connectin gets lost again --> reconnect and so on.

I have tried it with a different Notebook and the same problem is there also. When the connection gets lost, it is on the other notebook lost also.

What could the cause for this be?

I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I downloaded 64 Bit RC Windows 7 and did a clean install on another partition of my hard drive. Dual boot was working for about 4 days then all of a sudden it doesnt come up any more. The partition is still there with Windows 7 installed on it but its not booting under it. I go into MSConfig and Windows 7 isnt even being detected, checked the advanced system options in the control panel and it isnt there either.

Any idea how to recover windows 7? I did not install it from dvd, I installed from Daemon Tools and worked fine.

Do I need to Burn the image to a DVD and run it on startup if I want to run Windows 7?

Complete novice running Windows XP (don't know which Service Pack but Windows Update is automatic so up to date). Antivirus - AVAST free edition.

First symptom was being unable to access internet or anything via My Computer. Initial reaction was to do System Restore but this was not available either. Thought about Conficker but thought perhaps not as symptoms don't really tally. Could not run antivirus so decided to run removal tool to be on the safe side. Downloaded onto son's laptop and copied to pendrive, but poorly computer could not find drive.

After searching web, looked like problem could be explore.exe but not savvy enough to know what to do about it so followed instructions at
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;304449 How to start the System Restore tool by using the safe mode option with the Command prompt in Windows XP
Once it had restarted, I'd then lost taskbar. I've got wallpaper and screensaver and that's it
I've tried ctrl esc and the windows key but no luck

If anyone can help that would be great

Giving up for this evening before I hit the **** computer

Thank you !!!!

A:Lost explorer then lost taskbar after system restore

Try calling task manager by clicking Ctrl,Alt and Delete at the same time find explorer.exe and right click it and select end process then after the warning click yes now click file and new process and type explorer.exe if explorer.exe is not running then click file and new process and type explorer.exe in there.
