Preferred Solution: In internet explorer I want to auto launch ica file

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been having this problem for about a year now, and I just can't get it fixed. Whenever I try to open Internet Explorer it just flashes for less than a second, and then automatically closes. Also, I can't open Internet Options. I try to click on it from the Control Panel, but nothing happens. I try to enter inetcpl.cpl in Run, but nothing happens.

However, i've read on some other forums and threads here about looking for "inetcpl.cpl" in the System32 folder, and it is NOT there on my computer. I really don't know what to do now.
EDIT: After using Microsoft's Fix It program, inetcpl.cpl is back in the System32 folder, but nothing happens when I click on it. I tried to access it through the browsing fuction of Run, but it doesn't sure up there. Maybe that's normal, but I thought I should note it anyway.

NOTE: If this belows in a different section, please move it. I wasn't really sure.

Double click on the icon on the desktop or start menu and nothing happens. Firefox launches and acts normally. Computer running MSN proprietary browser. Tried removing it, but it didn't help. Tried to uninstall and re-install IE, but that didn't work either.

About a week ago, IE worked, but it took about 5 minutes to launch. Now it won't launch at all.

Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: Never mind, I managed to install Firefox.

I am trying to launch Internet Explorer on Windows 98. I know that my internet connection is already working fine because I can ping google through the MS-DOS prompt. However, my computer insists on launching the MSN Internet setup every time I try to launch Internet explorer, and if I try to exit the MSN Setup, internet explorer also exits. How do I remove or bypass the MSN setup?

A:launch internet explorer without msn

If you still want to know how to get around this just go to control panel and find internet options and go to the connections tab and click setup and set it up for a lan connection.

This is kind of driving me nuts (I say kind of, because I don't use IE all that much; I usually use Firefox)...the other day, I updated from IE9 to IE10 on the recommendation of my father, who usually doesn't like IE, either, but he said that 10 was much faster than previous versions (I have 52 word disease, if y'all hadn't noticed; takes me 52 words to say one lol ). So, I installed it, rebooted, and launched it...well, more like TRIED to launch it; all I get is a blank window with no title, and a Windows busy cursor until I click inside the window. Then the titlebar reads, "Windows Internet Explorer (Not Responding)". A few seconds later, it terminates. I've tried all the Msft Fix-Its, and the "Well, what you should do"s I could find on the 'net, to no avail. Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this problem on 7?

I have Vista home premium, 32 bit all current updates. I seem to be unable to launch the Windows Internet Browser. (I think it was IE8.) I think something happened to the registry when I launched firefox which I am now stuck with. I tried using a system restore to various earlier restore points. These efforts failed. I also could not re-load IE8 that I downloaded from the Vista page at Microsoft: I got the message that Vista found a more recent version. Indeed in the program files folder, there is a folder Internet Explorer. So I clicked on the .exe -- nothing. (The program circle whirled around then stopped.) What has happened? I suppose I'll get used to Firefox, but I don't trust the security of it. ( Of course I shouldn't trust the security of IE either should I ?)

I'm running W2000, SP4

Since yesterday I've been having problems with Internet Explorer. It won't launch. Also, if I double-click on any html file in my computer I get an alert asking me to verify that all libraries are ok. The strange thing is, if I open Windows Explorer and I type a URL in the location bar I can go to that web page, however if I then click on any link that opens a different browser window, it crashes.

The only strange thing I did before this happened was run SpyDoctor, and still it was running fine for a while after that.

Hope you can help me

Hi all, hope someone can help.
I have an Acer Aspire 5536 laptop that's run into a problem with Internet Explorer i.e. when I click on the icon to launch the application nothing happens but when I check running processes I can see iexplore.exe is running, the following is a list of things I've tried so far:

Removed IE8 and tried to launch IE7 but got the same result.
Removed all internet tool bars.
System restore to a point that I know IE8 was working, restore failed.
Scanned with Malwarebytes - 1 infection found / AdAware - 12 infections / Kaspersky - 2 infections / CCleaner - 958 / CCleaner Registry - 114.
Deleted cookies.
Disabled all Add ons.
Removed Norton 360.
Ran SFC /scannow.
Ran a full Check Disk.
Disabled all non Microsoft services in MSCONFIG.
Reinstalled IE8.

If anyone has come across this issue or can suggest what to do next I would very much like to hear from you.

Try flushing your dns cache

1. Click the Microsoft Vista Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen
2. Click All Programs

Hello. My client is running windows 2000 pro service pack 4. He recently downloaded some sort of malware causing IE 6 sp 1 to not launch. He would click on the IE icon and the hour glass would show but IE would not open to its browser. I took a look in the event viewer and got this error message:"The description for Event ID(1001) in source (Microsoft Internet Explorer) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message dlls to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: iexplorer 6.0, ole32.dll." This message occurs everytime he launches IE6. I tried reinstalling IE6 sp 1, running sfc /scannow and did a system repair. IE6 still would not launch. The main problem has to do with ole32.dll file. I was able to successfully register the file through the regsvr32.exe command. I am thinking certain registry settings were corrupted. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the cause of the problem? I also ran combofix and installed avira antivirus. The pc is now completely clean of any viruses and malware.

I am running Windows 7 - 64bit Premium edition.
I was having problems with a site loading as the default in the IE browser that was considered suspicious.

The Norton Antivirus agent helped to get rid of that issue, but in the meantime, something happened that messed up the launching of Internet Explorer (wasn't my default browser, so it wasn't an immediate issue).

I uninstalled Internet Explorer 11 and reinstalled, but that did not resolve the issue.

I have tried to run iexplorer.exe from the Command prompt and from the start menu, and I only see a flash on my screen like it is trying to run, but then nothing happens.

Currently, Internet Explorer is installed in Program Files/Internet Explorer.  Should it be installed in the Windows directory?

I looked at all the other similar questions on this topic in this forum, so I know I am not alone.  There were some fairly sophisticated responses, but I admit I didn't understand what was being suggested.  If there is a more novice to intermediate
user action I can try, I would appreciate that information.

Hello Guys,

I am wondering if anybody else has had this problem and found a solution for it.

Everytime I click on the Internet Explorer shortcut, there is about a 10 second delay before the Explorer is shown.

I have P3 755Mhz, 512mb mem, running Windows XP Pro.

The processor jumps to 100% during that time, then calms back down to it's usual level. I have checked all avenues, including various processes, virus checks and any other background task.

I have uninstalled and re-installed, all to no avail!

Please help. Cheers in advance. P

Dear Forum:

I'm running Windows Vista with Internet Explorer 9 32-bit. I installed Office 2010, but got a "side-by-side configuration" error because it conflicted with Vista. Found a forum. Fixed problem by downloading set of VC++ DLLs. However, before that fix, IE 9 stopped launching. I found it in Program Files and clicked on it, but won't launch. Won't launch from toolbar, or desktop shortcut. Tried to uninstall, but it won't appear on uninstall list. Tried to over-iwrite new copy, but message says I have latest version and won't download. I used Firefox to find VC++ DLLs, but when I clicked on links to download them, the Microsoft website automatically launched IE 9 and it worked fine. It's on my machine and works fine from MS website, but I can't launch it, delete it or over-write it. Any ideas on how to fix it so I can launch it? Much Thanks!

Hey y'all, I'm going crazy with this one!

Background: I'm using Windows XP (SP 2) and MS Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180. Tools like AdAware and SpyBot say my computer is clean. Email works fine, so the problem is not about my connection, its about something else in IE.

Problem: For the past few weeks, whenever I launch IE it fails every time with a typical message ( Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.) When I check into the failure data report, the ModName is always advapi32.dll.

Actions so far:
Googled around for advapi32.dll ...could find any info specifically related to IE crashing
Loaded IE 7 -- same problem, so I rolled back to IE 6.
Replaced advapi32.dll on my machine with an eariler version ...same problem
Changed my browesr to Mozilla Firefox ...same problem, but instead of *never* starting up (like IE), it *sometimes* starts up ( no pattern, but it Firefox will work OK within the first 8 or 9 tries...)

So as of now, I'm limping along with Firefox -- which mostly fails, but sometimes starts up OK...

Any ideas, O wise ones?

I'm running Windows XP (Home) on my laptop. Suddenly, I can't launch Internet Explorer (and even though I can sign onto AOL, as soon as I try to click on a link or anything else it freezes up). I'm suspecting this is residual damage from a virus because when I ran my virus program (Avast) it said it detected a worm (Win32ybac, which I searched for into on and found nothing) I was unable to save it to the chest (which I guess is quarantining it) so I deleted it. After running Norton (from another computer on my home network) and Avast (as well as McAfee) I haven't found any traces of virus. When I try to launch IE I get the box that says IE encountered a problem and needs to close. Send Report, etc. If I go to my Start menu and click on Update Windows, it launches IE and I can go anywhere I want. Of interest is: during the past week I've experienced my IE spontaneously closing on me a couple of times, my Avast won't connect to automatically update, and when starting my computer I've gotten the following message a few times: alg.exe - Application Error The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program.

I did see some things on-line suggesting that the alg.exe can be affected by viruses and worms, and the registry could be affected.

In the process of trying to solve this I have updated and run my Ad-Aware, Spybot, PC Bugdoctor, sy... Read more

My niece has come to me with a very interesting problem.

Internet explorer (7) won't run. I found that the IEXPLORER.exe is not in the directory. I have tried to install IE8 but it fails on configuring every time. Same happens when I try to install the cummulative IE7 updates (she's not good at installing updates).

Everytime I try any kind of install or update concerned with IE it fails at the configuration phase.

Other problems are that she can no longer use windows messenger. This connects but terminates in failure almost instantly.

I've ran a Norton Security scan which has found 144 tracking cookies but nothing more. The fix now button produces fail to lauch link which may well have something to do with the IE problem.

Google Chrome is installed and works OK.

I don't know what the last good restart point is.

I've tried going into the repair feature on windows live essentials through the programs and features in the control panel but I just get a fatal error 0x8007007

Can't even look at internet options in control panel. That won't open either.

Any idea's?

When I click on the quick launch internet explorer icon it opens two browsers. If I double click the icon on the desktop it will open just one browser. I deleted the quick launch icon, took the desktop icon and put it on the quick launch again, but it still has the same problem. Any ideas?

A:Quick Launch: Internet explorer opens twice.

I don't know why it's doing that, but..

See what happens when you right-click-drag IE on the desktop and create another shortcut. Does it still open two programs? If it doesn't, will it successfully move to the quicklaunch?

Are the other quicklaunch icons working fine?

What happens if you modify a working quicklaunch icon (if you have one) to point to IE instead? Or make one from scratch by right-clicking the desktop?

If it's only affecting IE, perhaps a reinstall would help?

I've recently rebuilt my laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate, and installed the appropriate Update to install Internet Explorer 9.

After a couple of days (and with no tweaking of settings) Internet Explorer has decided that it no longer wants to launch some links that are embedded in websites such as Facebook and which would normally open in a new window or tab. So, when I click on a link that would open in the same window, it works but if its been set to open in a new window, the link doesn't work. Moreover, I don't get any sort of visual or audible notification - the link just doesn't work.

To try and resolve this, I've done the following:Turned off the pop-up blocker;
Uninstalled IE9 and therefore reverted back to IE8;
Reset IE8 back to its default settings;
I had this issue before, which was what prompted me to rebuild the laptop in the first place. Is there anything I can do to make IE8/9 launch links properly?

Okay, I am having a few problems here so I am going to post them in one combined message so I don't have to post a few messages. Here are my problems:

Quick Launch:

When I restart my computer my Quick Launch toolbar is disabled by default and I have to right click my taskbar and enable it every time. The icons are there and are working fine and I even tested it with new icons that I created recently. No good, it is still disabled. I read from another message suggesting to create a quick launch folder in the C:\Documents and Settings\*user name*\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer and there was already a folder there.

Internet Explorer:

My internet explorer stopped playing animated gif files and some pictures just won't load (Yes I looked in the Advanced tab under Internet Options Tab and Play Animations in Web Pages was checked) so I have been switching between Mozilla Firefox (I prefere Internet Explorer so this is annoying for me). When I try to save images every so often it will try to save them as 'untitled.bmp'. I have tried deleting my history, and deleting my temporary internet files and even cookies and I increased the amount cache space for it to store files. If anyone has any solutions to these problems please reply because this is getting VERY annoying.

I have Windows xp and a Broadband connection. I want to put IE 6 & OE 6 onto my Quick Launch Toolbar, so that they launch automatically rather then me having to click on them. When I drag the icons to the QL TB they do not stay there. What can I do, if anything?

A:Internet Explorer 6/OutlookExpress 6 onto Quick Launch Toolbar

Right click on the taskbar and uncheck "Lock The Taskbar" then drag them onto the QL bar.

However that won't launch them automatically, thats just so you can easily single click on them no matter what you're doing without using the desktop icons or Start Bar.

To have programs automatically start when you boot your computer you need to put them in the startup folder in the programs list. You can also just drag them into that folder. I personally wouldn't want them open everytime I started the computer though.

Hello! Hope all is well with you all at Bleeping Computer.

Yesterday, I happened to catch the Windows 7 repair virus, but following Bleeping Computer's directions I was able to stop it with MalwareBytes and get my icons back with Unhide. Unfortunately, not all was fixed and I still have a nasty redirect virus. When I try to go anywhere in Internet Explorer, I am redirected to affiliate spam sites, most notably with the word jump2 or findjittery in the url. Firefox and Chrome won't even launch anymore.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit. I have tried the following to find the redirect so far with no luck: MalwareBytes, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, TDSSKiller, SpywareBlaster, and avast. For your use, I followed the directions in your Preparation Guide sticky, ran Defogger, posted the DDS text below, and attached the Attach.txt. I also have HijackThis installed if you need that.

I appreciate your time and any help you can give, thanks!

I have searched G and cannot find any definitive answers so it seems as if the answer is "No, it can't" The main thing that keeps me questioning this matter is the fact that when I load a SD card and copy files to it, the directory does not refresh automatically. Therefore, there must be a way to turn off the Auto-Refresh for the HDD files.

Has anyone successfully achieved this or officially debunked the possibility?

Please read carefully as I am going to describe in detail the exact issue.

We use a website that all of our customers have different log ins and passwords for. As Customer Service we often need to be in multiple log-ins at once. Some of our computers work the way we want. A brand new browser would prompt you do use a different log in to get in and would therefore allow us to be signed in to multiple accouts at once with difference browsers open (not a different tab on the same browser).

Now, some of ours are currently set to automatically log in to the same account and wont allow us to have multiple open at once. You have to completely X every tab and browser out and open a complete new one to get into a different account. Even after Logging out. I think this has to do with cookies or privacy filters but i cant figure it out. The site requires cookies so I am not able to block that.
I am sure its a silly setting, I just cant find the right one. Help Would be great.

Hello & welcome to the Ten Forums

It looks like File Explorer has somehow been added to your Startup items. Have a look in Task Manager (right click on the taskbar or Start button to select this) and see if it appears in the Start-up tab.

This tutorial should help you solve the problem:

This started about a week ago. Everytime I fire up the computer, the internet explorer starts automatically, with http:/??????????? in the address field, (only 1 forward slash as shown in bold). I'm running IE7 on Windows XP.

I haven't been able to find out the problem. Maybe someone here might know.

Thank you.

G'Day TyLeon,

If IE 7 is performing alright apart from this hiccup; then, to me it sounds a bit suspicious, in that you might have a spyware/malware issue.

I suggest that you go to 'The 5 Steps', listed in my signature; then follow the instructions and post your HJT log in the HJT Forum, to allow one of the trained analysts there to help you with this issue.

Hi Guys,

Basically my problem is that I am looking for a piece of software/addon that will refresh the page every so often. But the problem is that I do not want it to refresh the whole page.

So I work for an IT company and we provide IT support to users, one of my jobs is to watch the ticket que, and watch for any new tickets that come in each ticket requires a 'first response' (we use a site called autotask if any of you are familiar with it.) The thing is when I refresh the page it will refresh the whole page which will take me out of the 'service desk' part of the page which means I then have to navigate back to the que again. The other way is if I keep reclicking the 'new tickets' que it will just refresh that part of the page. So what I was wondering is that is there any software that will refresh a certain part of the page or just a certain link it can click so that I can leave it refreshing the page and get on with other work, and just glance over to see if any new tickets have arrived.

Any help is appreciated

The first thing I do when I turn on my computer after it boots up is go straight to Internet Explorer. Is there any way for that to be part of the boot up process? To start IE8 as part of the boot up process? Thanks for any help.

I am having issues with the way file trees open and scroll in Windows Explorer.

I have explorer configured to resemble the classic Windows file manager look; drive and directory tree on the left, files displayed in a detailed list format on the right.

When I click a folder in the tree to expand its contents, depending on the amount of items in that folder, the left pane usually scrolls. The problem I am having is that there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to the scrolling method. Sometimes the folder I am working in jumps to the very top of the window, sometimes it jumps to the middle, sometimes it jumps all the way to the bottom. When it jumps to the bottom, I have to scroll both panes to see the contents.

Is there a way to mitigate this behavior? I'd rather the folder simply stay put, or maybe jump to the top of the window at the worst. Having it drop to the bottom of the window (which seems to be the case more than 70% of the time) gets annoying because I am constantly having to adjust and scroll to view the contents.

I got the beta of IE7, working fine except one feature is really annoying me. On my mouse if I scroll IE will periodically jump every two seconds, I prefer that It jumps the three lines (as set in mouse properties) per scroll not have it annoyingly jump every two seconds, and not stop unless you click the screen.

Does anyone know how to turn this off? I had a quick look through the options but there does not seem to be anything. If there is no way to turn this off I think I will downgrade as I use the mouse scroll feautre alot.

Thanks in Advance

Does anyone know of a way to auto delete the internet explorer history on browser shutdown?

I have had several patrons ask me about this.(I administer a Public Library network)

The patrons do not have the option of restarting the computer and pulling a new mandatory roaming profile. I really don't want to give them access to the internet options toolbar so they can mess around with the settings. Trying to use a batch file running from the command prompt does not work either due to the way the history is stored.

Setting the folder to read only partially works. You can still see the history if you use most visited. The other sortings are blank.
