problem with port forwarding. tcp port gets opened but udp remains closed.

Q: problem with port forwarding. tcp port gets opened but udp remains closed.

i have a router/modem, Thomson ST536 and a router, Netgear WNR 1000. i have a static ip address already and port forward for both router with instructions from portforward.com. yet, when i check if the ports are open using simple port forwarding, only the tcp port is opened. the udp port remains closes. is there something else i must do to open the udp port?

Preferred Solution: problem with port forwarding. tcp port gets opened but udp remains closed.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So according to some programs my ports are closed. I don't know when this happened but in the past it was fine. I have a modem that has DMZenabled to my router which I then configure which ports to open.

I did mess with the router and modem a few days back but it looks like it should work.

My router is TL-WR340G/TL-WR340GD and moem is 2Wire 2071-A Gateway.

I've used multiple computers to test this as well.

I hate computers!

I have forwarded all the correct ports on my routers, no firewalls/intrusive anti-virus programs are running, I have set up a static IP address outside the range of my DHCP server, the switch stemming from the router is configured correctly, etc, etc, all the basic stuff is accounted for.

I can't get an outside port scan to show that ports are open on my PC when they clearly should be, Magic Online refuses to load graphics or download new files, I can't host WC3 games, and torrents don't run at any reasonable speed because they can't connect to the ports I have set up for them. Every technical place I have contacted just tells me the basic stuff like going to portforward.com and following their directions (great).

NAT tests on the ports in question work fine (double-checked by NAT testing ports that should not work, and they most assuredly do not work, meaning the test program isn't bad). I know how to do something as "advanced" as forward ports to the correct system.

UPnP is disabled.

When I open the ports in question, I get "Connection refused" from websites like http://www.canyouseeme.org/, and when I test ports that should be blocked, I get "connection timed out." The case in the former situation is that the ports are closed, in the second, they are stealth. This means there is no problem with the router configuration, but instead, a problem with my system. I'm trying to open a few ports on my WIndows 8.1 system.
I have followed a few tutorials and have created inbound and outbound rules properly.
I'm using a modem connected to my WiFi router which provides my PC LAN access. I'm using my router to provide DHCP service.
Also, in my Netgear WGR614 router, I have enabled port forwarding. Now, when I go through THIS website, I don't see my ports opened. I have added a host on noip.com and I run it's DUC app and keep it connected.
Because I use DHCP from my router, my local ip in Command Prompt shows different and the one at whatismyip.com is different. I don't really know what are my options right now. Any help?

A:Port Forwarding isn't Showing Opened Ports Windows 8.1

Do you have a public IP? Compare your router's WAN IP assigned by your ISP vs whatismyip.com.
Usually people have a shared IP, so you might be behind multiple routers by your ISP provider.

Or you can use traceroute, which will show you, how you are connected, I am behind 5 routers. :P

Hey Guys,

I have been messing around with Apache from (XAMPP) on my Windows computer. I know that it is not secure, but I am just testing it for right now (for fun).

I am behind a Linksys WRT54g router. I can easily access the apache server from internally (locally), and in order for me to be able to access it externally (external IP in address bar), I have to port forward in my router.

So, I port forwarded port 80 and everything worked fine. I just had a question about this.

Since most internet (HTTP) traffic is served through 80, and I just port forwarded 80 to one computer, how do the other computers on my network still have access to the net. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome that this works, but I would just like to know how. Theoretically, wouldn't all the traffic that is coming through 80 be routed to that one computer?

Can someone explain this to me?

Also, when people use Apache to host sites, do they usually keep the apache ServerName (in httpd.conf) at localhost, or do they change it to a different IP? I would imagine they would keep it at localhost, so what would be the reason for changing that to a different IP?

I have been using an DSL Siemens speedstream 6520 router at home. I usually carry out some R&D by placing servers behind the router. I access the services on each of the servers from the ouside using port forwarding and it has been working fine for http, ftp, RDP, any user defined ports etc but in the case of port 25 SMTP its not working at all. I have checked the port on the local lan and I am able to telnet to that server but from the outside only on this port 25 I am not able to telnet. But If i were to change the SMTP port number from 25 to any other port like 24 or 26, I am able to telnet from the outide. Is there any way i can make SMTP port 25 to work and access the same from the outside.

A:SpeedStream 6520 DSL Router - Port forwarding for port 25

Is it possible that port 25 has been blocked by your ISP? This is a pretty common thing for ISP's to do as a SPAM prevention measure.

As you can see, there are quite a few ISP's blocking port 25 on this list.

I would Like to know if port forwarding in general is safe and if anyone knows if port forwarding 25565 for minecraft is safe,

A:Is port Forwarding safe (port 25565)

You only need to forward it if you are running a server. Opening up any port leaves you open to any exploits that may be out there in regards to unpatched and under secured servers.

I just got a new ISP. They are blocking port 80. This means I cannot access my websites being hosting on my server running out of my home network.

So if I go to www.mm-theory.com, which I used to be able to do with my previous provider, it tells me: the site cannot be reached. I'm trying to open port 5000 so that I can get to my site by typing www.mm-theory.com:5000, but that doesn't seem to be working either.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me troubleshoot the issue.

I have the domain mm-theory.com registered with register.com. When I log into my account with them, this is what I have set for the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses:

The IPv6 address is left blank because Telus (my current ISP) changes it on a daily basis. Technical support at register.com told me I could leave it blank and only have the IPv4 address, so I did that.

When I go to whatismyip.com, this is what I see:

When I go onto my Windows Server 2003, this is what I get when I type ipconfig /all:

...and I see this when I open the properties for mm-theory.com in IIS on my my server:

This is what I have set for port forwarding on my router:

Does anyone know what might be going wrong? Thanks.

EDIT: I am not able to get the screen captures to show up. You can see them here:

Correct me if im wrong but if the "Alcatel - Thomson Speedtouch 608" is your modem, to use that site you need to know which router you have and which program you are trying to open the port for. Some background:
I am currently using Thomson TG784 Gateway, and what Im trying to do is open ports 80, 443, 3659, 9988, 14000, 17502, 20000, 22990, 25200 and 42127. Reason for opening these is to help Battlefield 3 stay connected (I get the message ''You have lost connection to the session'' every 5 minutes)

I have made a static IP adress on ps3, and made the game/application for the ports.

But the problem is, when Im at the point where I add the game/application to the device, the Thomson Gateway wont allow me to set my PS3 as a device, it just rolls it back to my computer. I know that its the right device, I checked the MAC Address.

If you did not quite understand what I just said (Im really bad at explaining stuff), I can post some pictures.

Based on your other thread I assume that you have fixed wireless internet access. You (WAN section of your router) are probably assigned a private IP address, meaning that your ISP is essentially giving you service through a router, and the ports are blocked there.

While this is guesswork on my part, I suggest that you confirm or refute the accuracy.

Ok. I've had this problem for a long time. I tried to fix it but I really can't understand alot of the terms that the guide used.
I have a router that my ISP provided, a XAVi X7722r+. The first port on it is used for internet. The rest are where the TV things hook up at. Have no idea what terms to use. But we have two tv's hooked up to it.
But in the first port, where the internet is at, we have another router hooked up, because we have three things that use internet and only one port. Its a wireless router, a Linksys WRT54G.
We have this computer, and another hooked up to it, using wires. And then the Wii uses a wireless connection.
I got kinda far in the process, but then I dunno what happened. Nothing worked.
So if someone would help, I'd really appreciate it.
If you need more information, just ask. Please.

I have a very tricky problem when it comes to opening ports, I will write a short explanation of the weird things that i have figured out so far.

No ports seem to open up when they are supposed to be open according to the routers GUI.
When i use "port checker"-websites, they even say that port 80 is closed until i actively open it in the router, then it shows up as open. This however only applies to port 80, no other ports shows as open OR allow any traffic through.
The same thing happens when the router is in DMZ.

What I have done so far is google my butt off without any results, I have tried a new router, a new network card, formated, re-installed windows and made sure that my ISP is not blocking the ports that i have tried to open.

My purpose of opening a port is to run a mumble server, which I have run on a Hamachi VPN so far, and that has worked fine.

No one I have consulted so far has been able to figure it out so far, thats why I am asking you guys. Maybe I have missed something obvious, or someone here has an idea of what might be blocking the traffick?

I type in the name of teh app, typed in the range of ports that i needed to be open, then put in my static ip address then clicked enable. Well, that didn't work.

Any ideas? I even tried turning on DMZ and that didn't even work.

All right Tech Support Guy(s) & Girls, please be my hero and help me fix a seemingly simple enough problem that has been making gaming (among other things) more difficult for me than it should be for almost 2 years now, or at least help diagnose the cause.

The problem is simple enough; I can't get ports to forward.

I must be making some very elementary mistake as this should not be that difficult, and I had no problem doing it on my friend's PC.

I'm on a wireless network (Zyxel 2602H-61C -> Sitecom 300N Wireless Router). I should also mention that the modem is in full-time use as a VoIP phone line as well, which keeps me from bridging it.

Now, what I'm trying to do is simply enough forward ports so that I can host and join (more) games, or simply use utilities which require as such. I don't have a lot of experience but it should be simple enough. Anyway, I knew how to do it on my friend's PC, just forward the required ports to the PC's internal IP, which is what I tried doing at first, but failed. Then I tried forwarding from the modem to the router IP, and from the router to the PC's internal IP, which, too, failed. Now I'm not sure if I did something wrong or not (the IPs can get a little confusing..), but I don't know what else to do to fix this.

If any more information is needed to help diagnose the problem, do ask. Please help me out.

Hi ppl, first post here at TSG!

After having no replies at other forums, I looked for an active tech support community where I could get some help on this much too common issue - port forwarding! I hope this might be the place!

I'm trying to open ports on my home wireless network.

I have a Linksys AM200 modem ( "RFC 1483 Briged" to a D-Link DIR655 ( router and a PPoE DSL connection.

Some Linksys configurations:

- Multiplexing LLC
- DHCP enabled: DHCP address range: /
- UPnP enabled
- NAT enabled

D-Link configurations:

- does PPoE
- DHCP enabled: DHCP IP address range
- IP reservation to my laptop:

I think everything is OK with port forwarding in the D-Link. Relying on some information I've read at another forum, what I think I'm not doing right is forwarding the ports to the WAN IP of the D-Link router in the Linksys! What worked for the user in that post doesn't seem to be working for me, but I guess it is just a question of finding the right numbers!

So, in D-Link's configuration page, my WAN IP usually rounds 89.180.XXX.XXX. This WAN is dynamically assigned by my ISP, so this isn't it! In the Linksys port forwarding menu, only 192.168.1.XXX IPs are accepted.

So, should I change D-Links network to 192.168.1 (right now, all IPs in D-Link are 192.168.0.XXX)? If so, should I take off bridging, do PPoE at the modem, set a 192.168.1.XXX static addre... Read more

Hi all

I'm having a lot of trouble getting a test website on my local machine to be available on the net.
I've registered the domain and have pointed the DNS to my public IP. The Router is a BT VOyager 210 ADSL router. This then connects to a switch which has 2 machines running from it.
The Web server machine has been given a static IP and it's IP has been reserved on the routers DHCP.
I've added the port forwarding rule for port 80 but when I either goto the URL or the public ip I get the Router configuration screen. I've tried TELNET to the router on port 80 and it appears to connect but all I get is a load of HTTP code and at the end it says that you need to supply a valid user name and password.
all firewalls are off.
I'm now at a loss as to why the port forwarding is not working. Can anyone help?

many thanks

A:Problem with Port forwarding on BT Voyage 210 Router

I couldn't really find a User Guide/Manual in a quick google - if you got one with the device consult it for Remote Management; might be your problem.
Quite often the Remote Management page of the router itself is on port 80. Have you that facility and is it enabled?
If so you could disable it.
Or if you need/want to use it then move it off onto an obscure port and then continue to use port 80 for you web-server.

I go to the Router page and check to see if everything is still the way it was a few weeks ago. It was.
I have already created a static IP and entered in all the info.

I do a port forward check and it still says my Router is not open to any port.

The SDSL router is located on Again, its DHCP is turned off and so I cant set up a DMZ, all the forwarding has to be done manually. This router has no factory preset forwards. It won't forward anything, I have tried lots of ports. It worked for port 3389, but when I had to reset the router it wiped it, and now wont work.

The computer I am trying to forward to is, and it has a static IP.
Can anyone help? I have tried telneting in and cannot.... could it be somthing to do with the fact that the LAN = 10.0.0.* ADSL router= SDSL router= DHCP= Please help

A:Port Forwarding Problem..About to take a hammer to the routers :)

I am not sure what kind of routers these are.. DHCP and DMZ are totally different things and one cannot possibly affect the other. You having ended up with two extremely braindead routers seems unlikely too.

Are the subnet masks the same everywhere? Home routers often have fixed netmasks.

Software firewalls on the computers? Turn off the Windows firewall?

How are you testing the port forwarding? Often it is not possible (crappy routers) to make loopback connections to one's own WAN IP address. Use some system outside your network to test the port forwarding/DMZ.

Could it be that your ISP (or whatever entity is on the WAN side of routers) is blocking incoming connections?

I have a Dell router, it is a Wireless 2350. I would like to set up a port forwarding for my IP web cam but all possible port forwardings are taken. My router can only handle ten of them.
The thing is that I have not set up any of them my self, I'm 110% sure of that. Seven of them seems to be related to my IP-phone (which I have put in an DMZ so I don't think that it would need any other port forwarding?) and three of them is related to Skype. None of these is possible to delete. When i try to delete any one of them the web gui interface reloads but the port forwarding is still there.

Is it possible for my IP-phone box and Skype to automaticly configure my router in this way?

Can I get around it and delete the forwardings (or just one of them) in some way?

Sorry about my bad english, I'm swedish...

A:Dell router, problem with port forwarding

Can it be some kind of default values from Dell?
Is there anyone with a Dell Wireless 2350 router with firmware version 1.46.10 who can check if this is the same at your router?

Ever since ive upgraded to windows 7 when i run my crysis dedicated server it always shows up as having a N/A ping in the game server list which most likely means that the port "64100" or some others are being blocked but i have disabled everything that would be blocking them i.e.

Disabled Firewall.

Disabled Antivirus.

Opened all of the ports on my router.

My router is a D-Link DGL-4100 Gaming router

I am still getting no results. The weird thing is that if i take away my router and plug my computer directly into the modem then my server comes up as having a ping which means that all of the nescessary ports are open and that would instantly make you think that the router is blocking the ports. But this could not be the case, the ports were set the same as when i had vista and to make sure they were open i re did the port forwarding and also tried enabling DMZ mode for my pc which in theory should bypass the router's firewall and port settings and connect me straight to the internet with no port blocking but this still didn't fix the problem.

I have no idea at all what the problem is and i cannot think of any explanation of why it is happening. Im thinking its possibly just windows 7 and somehow it just blocks all of my ports when connected to a router which is weird. Or my router happened to magically break at exact same time as when i upgraded to windows 7.

Hi there, I am trying to make a tf2 server (hostport 27015) , i have a static i.p. (192.168.1.X)

I cannot seem to portforward. I have done this on the netgear site and my modem site, but when i use a PF checker tool it comes up as "we were able to ping your router" BUT "your port is not open or reachable". So when i tried connecting to my own server running on my computer through its public i.p. (found at ipv4.whatismyv6.com and in the server information) It comes up as not responding.

I have UPNP disabled, my DHCP starts from to

Under router status, my DNS server is and my i.p. listed there differs from the one at ipv4.whatismyv6.com

The one listed on that website is my modem's ip. Please help and reply soon!

I will provide any other information required.

Hey guys. I've looked at tutorials on how to do this, and I am almost 100% sure this is correct, but I still can't get connections through these ports. For the I.P. and I supposed to put my actual ip adress, or my local ip? I tried with my local, and my actual.
I'm trying to host a minecraft classic server. I love that game!

A:Dlink WBR-2310 Router Port Forwarding Problem

Ports are being forwarded from the router to your computer,
so use the local IP on that computer.
You will want to set a static IP on that computer so it doesn't change.
Also make sure those ports and that application are allowed in the
exceptions in the windows firewall or any other firewall you may
be using.

That router is really made by ZyXEL, here's a page describing port forwarding: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/ZyXEL/P-660R-D1/P-660R-D1index.htm
