I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows 7 Release Candidate due date is May 5?! Wow! I can't wait. I am gonna need a blank DVD to burn it to and use. I hope it is sturdy and doesn't crash or have too many bugs it it. What I don't know it how long that setup version on the hard drive will last. Will it last until the full and final thing is out?

Is Windows 7 likely, or very likely to come with their final version of the software this year or does it look more like 2010? I am hearing conflicting results all over the web. What's going on and when can we Windows users use Windows 7 RC as long as we want without having to get a license and upgrade or whatever.

I am kinda bored or Vista now. I want something new. I also need to try WMP12. I wonder how much hard drive space is needed to run Windows 7, beta, rc or otherwise...hmmm. Fo' shizzle!

A:Windows 7 Release Candidate due date is May 5

You don't have to burn Win7 on DVD to install, you can make it by mounting image to virtual drive and running installation from your current OS level. And this is not system update, just clean install. Installer copies files to hard drive, reboots and installs.

UPDATE: The Release Candidate is NOT LONGER available for download.Microsoft released the Windows 7 Release Candidate for testing yesterday. To get it visit this Website: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspxPlease Note: This is a TEST version of Windows 7. It should NOT be used on mission-critical systems, systems you do not personally own (like a work computer), or if you don't have a complete, recent, and reliable backup of your current system. Because this is a test version, there may be serious bugs which could damage or destroy existing data on your computer. Microsoft recommends that only experienced users should try out this test version and neither they nor Bleeping Computer are responsible for any damages you may suffer as a result of using this test version. Windows 7 Release Candidate 1. That's as close to fully baked as it gets, so we're finally comfortable pitting it against Vista for some good ol' fashion benchmarking. Windows 7 feels snappier. Is it?

We used 32-bit versions of both Vista and Windows 7 on the same machine for testing: 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM (but really 3GB available cause of the 32-bit issue), 256MB Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT. We tested 32-bit because that's the official RC1 disc we were sent. We'll be doing a follow up with 64-bit, don't worry.

The first series of tests are the "everyday" ones?stuff you'd run into sorta daily, where taking less time is more better. Vista punked 7 out twice here, shutting down a bit faster applying a filter to a 16.6MB (9764x3720 pixel) photo in Adobe Photoshop CS4 with more haste. When we played Left 4 Dead using the recommend settings, Vista also seemed to deliver ever-so-slightly better performance, more consistently keeping the frame rate near 30 frames per second, though you'd have to be watching the FPS numbers rise and fall to really tell the difference between the two in gameplay. But you should keep in mind Nvidia's Windows 7 drivers are still in beta, and haven't been updated since March, while fresh Vista drivers came out a couple weeks ago, and drivers make huge differences with gaming performance.

This second series is pulled from PCMark Vantage and 3DMark Vantage?more traditional benchmarks, designed for Windows Vista. Here, Windo... Read more

Did anyone try the Vista release candidate and if so which one?

Personally I tried RC1. RC2 was released much more discretely and went away quickly. I had trouble downloading RC1 though. After 2 or 3 failed attempts the server refused to allow me to download it again so I had to pay a few dollars for a DVD copy which came with both the 32 and 64 bit versions. Despite it being pre-lease I don't remember having any major issues with it.

Read online about Windows 7 RC. I assume that means release candidate. I wonder if I should try it when it comes out in May. I hate using skins for programs or programs that imitate an upcoming OS. It's not the same and you don't appreciate it as much. Whether it is transformation pack or WindowBlinds it feels fake. WindowBlinds have great skins that works for current OSs. That's cool. Hopefully Win 7, RC or whatever will come soon. If not I'll either use WindowBlinds - Vista version and skin or i'll stick with Vista now. And just wait!

A:Release Candidate in May

Skins can never give you what the new OS can, it's only skin deep (pun fully intended)
There are so many other changes under the hood in W7 that while it is built on the Vista kernel, there are enough differences (other than visual) that you should definitely try it. I'm surprised you haven't grabbed the Beta builds yet just to see what it's like.

To me using a skin to make an old OS LOOK like something else is like putting a Ferrari hood sticker on a Ford Pinto and thinking it's cool...

Opera Software has reached an important milestone with the development process of the next iteration of its proprietary browser. As of August 25th, 2009, users can now download and run the first Release Candidate of Opera 10.0. As you can see from the images included with this article, Opera Software has revamped the Opera icon, pointing out that the browser is close to finalization. In fact, RC Build 1733 of Opera 10.0 is considered stable enough for adopters to start test driving the release in their environments.

?Opera 10.0 has reached the release candidate stage,? noted a member of the Opera Desktop Team. ?What this means is that Opera 10.0 should be considered to be in a stable state code-wise, and that only selected fixes will be added if necessary. Apart from those (if any), the RC should be considered ready for release testing for Opera 10.0.?

As was the case with previous development snapshots, Opera 10.0 Release candidate (RC) Build 1733 is up for grabs for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux users. As you can see from the images included below, in Windows 7 RTM you can use the Ctrl plus Scroll on the desktop in order to grow or decrease the size of the Opera icon. If you insist long enough, you?ll be able to get the icon at the same size I did. This should of course also work on Windows Vista.

?Perhaps the most obvious change in this RC is the new application icon, designed by Oleg Melnychuk. The red O will continue to represent Opera, but it has received... Read more

HitmanPro.Alert 3 delivers comprehensive exploit protections and anti-espionage technologies to both home users and IT professionals. The software works in real-time and does not rely on signatures or the cloud.

During development we planned and released four versions of HitmanPro.Alert 3 as open beta to a limited group, a security software enthusiast community. With each of these Community Technology Preview (CTP) builds we introduced new features for directed and focused testing of the planned features.

CTP1, released in July 2014, was our first development release of HitmanPro.Alert 3 wherein we introduced our hardware-assisted exploit mitigations. A few weeks later, with CTP2, we added the ability for users to add and protect custom applications through an easy-to-use Running Applications interface. In CTP3 we enabled our network inspection driver and delivered Network Lockdown for Java applications, while we also expanded support to all Intel® Core? i3, i5 and i7 processors for our hardware-assisted exploit protection. With the fourth and last Community Technology Preview (CTP4), released in September 2014, we introduced Application Lockdown, Virtual Machine Simulation (part of Active Vaccination) and a second (default) Simplified User Interface. In addition we applied Network Lockdown not only to Java but also Office applications, while we improved compatibility with applications reported by the security community.

I have been using the Release Candidate since July for my daily work and have seldom if ever booted XP after getting the RC setup to my liking.
When the Retail version of Home Premium comes out I would like to do a clean install of it onto Partition 1 (XP) and be able to dual boot between the RC and the Retail Version until I get the Retail version set up the way I want it to be. Is this possible? I think Easy BCD might do it for me. If not, it is no big deal but it sure would be convenient.

Thank you.

The RC will time bomb out on 3/10 ... why would you want to hang onto it anyway??

Hey all,

I am interested in testing out the Windows 7 Release Candidate, my Windows Update detected it as a important update, I tried to install it through Windows Update twice, always failing with the error code "80073701". I have no idea why this is happening, and I haven't changed any important system settings.

Thanks for the help !

After some general market confusion and bad headline writing, Microsoft this morning detailed how it will roll out Windows 10 to testers, consumers, and large-scale customers.
First, scale: Microsoft said in its blog post this morning that there are now 5 million Windows Insiders, up from 3.7 million in May. The company also said that it has collected “millions” of “reservations” for Windows 10 from the public. Both numbers seem reasonable.
Microsoft will offer Windows 10 as a free upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8 and 8.1 users for a year. The company hopes to land the code on a billion devices in two to three years, a wide band, but also a large figure.

The Ten Immutable Laws of Security

Here at the Microsoft Security Response Center, we investigate thousands of security reports every year. In some cases, we find that a report describes a bona fide security vulnerability resulting from a flaw in one of our products; when this happens, we develop a patch as quickly as possible to correct the error. (See "A Tour of the Microsoft Security Response Center"). In other cases, the reported problems simply result from a mistake someone made in using the product. But many fall in between. They discuss real security problems, but the problems don't result from product flaws. Over the years, we've developed a list of issues like these, that we call the Ten Immutable Laws of Security.

When will Microsoft release the final, non-beta version of Windows 7? I'm planning to buy Windows 7 when it reaches SP1 (unless everyone gives a poitive review on it and no issues are discovered) but I'm just curious when.

A:When will Microsoft release Windows 7 Final (not Beta)?

Microsoft probably won't announce the release date until after the results from the RC are in (and it hasn't been released yet).
FWIW - I'm using it on my primary desktop and laptop and haven't experienced any show-stopping issues.

Microsoft to Release New Windows 10 Cumulative Updates Tomorrow

Microsoft will kick off this month?s Patch Tuesday rollout tomorrow, and in addition to security updates, the firm will also publish new cumulative updates specifically aimed at Windows 10 systems.

Cumulative updates are particularly important for Windows 10 users because they contain all available fixes, including here both security and non-security patches that are available for a specific version.

Tomorrow?s release will be focused on the security front, however, as Microsoft will patch the last known vulnerabilities in the operating system.

All supported versions of Windows 10 will get cumulative updates, and these include the new Creators Update that got the green light in April this year.

The last few cumulative updates for Windows 10 have worked pretty smoothly, with a smaller number of users reporting issues and complaining of failed installs. Furthermore, the updates that are aimed at the Creators Update also installed correctly, and there?s a good chance that the same will happen with tomorrow?s release as well.

Reboots will be needed
Cumulative updates are recommended to be installed as soon as possible, especially because they include fixes that could prevent attackers from compromising systems.

Living proof is the March cumulative updates that addressed the SMB vulnerability in Windows 10 and which protected users of the operating system against the WannaCry ransomware.
