C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Opens Automatically at Startup

Q: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Opens Automatically at Startup

I replaced my hard drive a couple of months ago, and just got around to reinstalling Adobe CS2. Now, every time I boot my computer, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe opens automatically (contains AdobePatchFiles folder). Not sure why this is happening, or what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I downloaded Adobe Photoshop (Portable) and installed it. Then I wanted to change the location where it was saved. I tried to move it but it couldn?t be moved so I copied and pasted it into a new location. I know I should uninstall but since I just wanted 1 copy, I deleted one.

After that, most of the other Adobe programs were affected. When I opened some, they would say that some files are missing or my license has expired. Some started asking for serial number or to register.

When I opened Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 it said Photoshop Elements Help was missing and there were missing icons on the right side.

So I uninstalled and reinstalled the programs. I downloaded some but they can?t be installed. It always says some files are missing.

What is the cause of the problem?
How can I fix this?

A:Manually deleted Adobe program and now all Adobe programs are affected

Try downloading the entire app again and then reinstall!

On 9-June-2012 our Dell XPS 8300 started getting the BSOD when trying to open Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Contribute. From January 2012 through 9-June we have had no trouble with Adobe. We have not added any new software or hardware around the 9-June timeframe. The ONLY time we get the BSOD is when starting one of these two products. We never get the BSOD at other times. We DON'T get this error when we start Adobe Photoshop. On 14-June I installed the latest video driver, but that did not help. I have run chkdsk /r /f and memtest and I have tested the video memory.....all without errors.

I've attached all the files I believe you need.

Dear Forum,

I know I have to do either a clean install, or an in place upgrade install soon . However, I just would like to repair my CS5.0 Encore that started acting strange lately (no new programs/hardware installed). I uninstalled/reinstalled the whole suite several times (using Control Panel > Programs and Features, Adobe Clean Tool, and CCleaner64). I noticed that several Adobe folders remained (In Program Files, Program Files (x86), and in Common Files within those folders). I even had PrPro.exe with a dozen dll-s in one folder (which, of course, didn't work). I have two other Adobe programs (Adobe Media Player, and Adobe Reader X).

My question: What would happen if after a thorough uninstall of all three programs (maybe RevoPro, instead of Programs and Features?) and after having no Adobe product installed in the system, simply delete all folders/files that have anything "Adobe"? Would still be shared dll files that needed by other non-Adobe programs? Would the registry cleaner delete all the bad registry entries that created by simply deleting the Adobe files? If it works, I would do the in-place repair install of Win 7. Or I will be advised to try this just before I am ready for a clean install () in case, if this ruins the system.

I would greatly appreciate any helpful advice (and I understand that might not be an answer to these questions).

Regards,

Laci.

A:After Uninstalling Adobe CS5, Adobe Folders and Files Remain

Just delete the leftover files , then use ccleaner to work on the registry , defrag a few times and you should be fine. If you still have problems come back and we`ll gladly help you do a clean install.

Hello,

Gringo did a great job a couple of weeks ago in helping me resolve my computer conflicts. After everything seemed to be back to normal, I followed his suggestion and installed the three maintenance/anit-malware programs (Malwarebytes, MSE, and WinPatrol). Just yesterday I started to receive pop-ups from WinPatrol saying the following:

"A new auto Startup Program has been detected. Type: RunOnce; Often required for software updates and new installations. This program will only run once, the next time you restart your computer. Do you approve the addition of this program startup setting? Press Yes if this program is expected and acceptable. 'ADOBE FLASH PLAYER INSTALLER/UNINSTALLER' C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil32_11_3_300_257_ActiveX.exe -update activex"

I kept pressing no at first and the same pop-up would come appear about 3-4 times and then the WinPatrol website page would come up. I then decided to press 'yes' and restarted my computer, but the pop-ups still keep coming up. Very frustrating. Please help.

Thank you,

Michael

Greetings nyseman and Welcome back to the Forums,Adobe has certainly had it's share of vulnerabilities...and it seems the version you have installed may already be one that's been exploited. Maybe not, but quirky nonetheless. There are a few suggestions you can consider:This link will show you exactly which flash player version is currently installed. The latest version is 11.4.402.287, so once you click there look for your installed version next to the flashing red arrow. If it's less than the version listed above, then follow the instuctions there under the Solution section to download the uninstaller for flash player. When you finish, you can return to that web page to confirm that flash player has been removed. Next, install the latest version Here. I would suggest you remove the check from the option box to install McAfee Security Scan Plus before you click the download button. After the download completes, you must close the browser before installing the addon. Then...when you finish with it all, you should once again return to the web page listed above to confirm you indeed NOW have the latest version installed. One last suggestion. If...when you worked with Gringo, he advised you to install FileHippo's Update checker tool, then I suggest you use that often to look for updates to your installed software. If he hadn't made that suggestion, then please install This Free Utility and get into the habit of checking often to see if your software has been u... Read more

At a certain moment (cause unknown) ALL my program files (*.exe) were given the Adobe icon and starting them starts up Adobe Reader, with the error message 'This file doesnt have a program associated wiuth it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is alreadyt installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel'.
My only option was to uninstall Adobe Reader through the Control Panel. Then the *.exe files worked properly again.
I searched for a specific [64 bits] version of Adobe Reader, couldnt find it, found some messages saying the usual version works for 64 bits too, downloaded the newest version 9.3.1 [English] - but: same result, same problem.
Questions:
- any idea what could have triggered this very strange problem?
- why wasnt the problem there right from the beginning?
- does it have to do with my 64 bits version?
- as long as I have to keep Adobe Reader uninstalled, is there any (free) alternative to recommend, so that i can continue reading *.pdf's?

Hi Guys, I have an issue with my new clean install on XP. Every time I boot, C:\Program Files keps opening. Here is the stuff I have tried so far.
I looked in msconfig, the startup folder and in Startup on my programs list and it doesn't show up in any of these places. It isn't a new program, so it's not because I installed it recently.
Here is HiJackThis log for reference. I dont have clue what's to look in this. But may be it will help you. Similarly I have copy-pasted contents from autoexec.bat,win.ini and sys.ini for debugging.
You may notice that there is TaskMgr link in startup. But its just one of my app I need on startup in my taskbar. It startup as minimized and it has setting "Hide on Minimized" checked in TaskManager. So It remains in taskbar always.

I run windows xp home edition. When my computer starts up.
the Program files folder opens up and lists all the contents of my folder.
I have been cleared of malware etc. in the HJT forum.
Any suggestions please?

Also for a split second a small window that reads "dialog" on the top header will flash and go away.
Not really sure about that either.

Happy holidays

A:Program files folder opens up at startup:I Need a solution

Hi triggerhappy,

msconfig is a diagnostic feature of windows which allows you to narrow down what might be causing some things to happen at startup. For the small window with "dialog" in the header, I would suggest that you go to Start / Run and type in msconfig and then ok. (You will need to be in an administrator level account to do this.) In the box that opens up, check Diagnostic System Start and then click on the Startup tab. Leaving your antivirus and firewall activated, uncheck the other items and reboot. If the dialog box does not appear, then you can assume that it is something loading together with one of your startup programs. If so, go back into msconfig to the startup tab again and add in half the programs that you unchecked before and reboot. By rechecking all the tabs, you will be able to narrow down which program it might belong to.

If using msconfig did not get rid of the "dialog" window problem, go back into msconfig and check "Normal System Start". This will cause all those items you unchecked to be rechecked.

After you do the above, tell me if this took care of either, neither or both of the problems you mentioned.

Hello, first of all sorry if I posted in wrong place.
So, I have windows 7 and somehow, and I really don't know how (I wasn't at home at the time), my whole PC, which means any .EXE file, whether it's IE, firefix, a game or even basic system tools like paint or system restore, simply don't work. All the icons show the ADOBE icon.Everything "opens up" with the adobe but it simply says it cannot read the file. Basicly, I can do nothing. Is there any way to fix this?

A:Whole PC opens up with ADOBE

Hi, Sykotic this is no reflection on you, the .bat file is not the preferred way to rebuild IconCache it is a hidden file by default best to use:-

Code:
Go to Start all programs accessories and right click on command prompt select ?run as administrator?

At the prompt type:- taskkill /im explorer.exe /f press enter
(Your desktop will go blank)

Now type each line and press enter after each line.
Note the spaces.

CD %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local

attrib -h IconCache.db

del IconCache.db

Shutdown /r
Now importantly it will have NO effect on the problem. You have a file association problem, where ALL .exe are attempting to open with Adobe. Ink is also involved can be caused by malware.

This Zip file contains the default .exe associations in the registry Run it and double click on the returned reg file agree to merge into registry Restart to take effect.

Dear mates , hope anyone got a solution for this problem.

I got it for around 1 year ago and have tried to get rid of it alone but it doesn't work.

The problem is that every .exe file open in Adobe Reader 6.0, lets say i want to open Mozilla. I double click it and I get the message:
''Adobe Reader could not open Mozilla.exe because its either not a supported file type or the file has been corrupted''

To avoid this I have to right click , choose Open as.. and then declick ''Secure my computer from non permitted functions. Then it starts as normal.

So if anyone knows/got a clue about what is wrong I would be very satisfied.

Best regards!

PS. I'm using Windows xp Home edition

Hello,

I have designed a logo in Adobe Illustrator CS3, and saved it as both an ".AI" file and an ".EPS" file.

Now, when I open the ".EPS" file in Adobe Photoshop CS3, it appears that the bright cyan (it's a white logo with one of the characters in bright cyan) is duller than what it seemed to be in Adobe Illustrator CS3.

Does anyone know why this would be, and what I can do to stop it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have Windows Vista 32 bit and from the beginning I have problems opening pdf's from internetsites: my computer suggests that I install the recent version of Adobe what I did (succesfully as adobe says). I tried some of the suggestions I found on the internet: uninstall - install, execute as administrator, change the compatibility to Windows server pack 2, upgrated the internet explorer, but still it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot, Swaantje

Hey.

I’m having some problems on start-up with Windows XP and I wonder if anybody out there could give me some good advice.

When I start my computer, it begins to load programs, and then suddenly the Program folder pops open, unbidden, on the desktop. I have to manually close the folder after the start-up is complete before going on to do whatever it is I’m going to do.

I’ve already gotten some good help at another forum and managed to track down the source of the problem somewhat. I was recently forced to delete some registry keys as a result of being infected by W32spybot.worm. The specific registry keys were located at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, Run Once, and Run Services, as well as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.

I began to suffer this problem after I deleted those keys. According to this page:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];170086

…the System 32 folder can begin opening automatically on start up if some registry keys in those folder have ”incorrect, incomplete, or null” values. My problem is that I can’t figure out if any of those keys have those values. As an EXTREME (read, 1st week I’ve owned this computer or used Windows XP) newbie, I’m reluctant to go messing around in the registry except as a matter of absolute necessity.

In addition, my problem is not that my System 32 folder opens, but rather that my Program folder opens, as in C: Program.

The fell... Read more

Hi there,

I've got some 500MB AVI files which I'm having problems with since I cannot import them into either Premiere CS3 to convert the file from AVI to another format or to Adobe Encore off the cuff so that I can create my DVD without both pieces of software locking up and crashing.

I've already tried reinstalling both bits of software to no avail and there has been no change. I've tried a Google search for similar situations but I cannot find any at the moment, so please could you help as soon as possible.

Regards,

Andrew.

The c:\program files\common folder opens automatically every time windows starts. This is probably the result of an entry in the registry somewhere, but I have no idea where. Nor do I know how to turn it off. Please help!

A:Unwanted folder automatically opens at Windows startup

Try running MSCONFIG, click on the Startup tab, and see if it is located there.

Otherwise:

Start Regedit
Go to both:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
See if it is there as well.

Since installing Adobe Reader 6.0, by Adobe Photo Deluxe Home Edition will no longer convert photos, scans, docs to Adobe reader format....... will still convert to other formats, for example jpg.

A:Adobe Acrobat 6.0 & Adobe Photo Deluxe

The best thing to try would be reinstalling Adobe Photo Home, so it can reset its file associations and get back to working order.

Not sure where this should end up,but I'm sure it will be guided to the correct forum,as always.
After doing quite a bit of reading today,I decided that the Adobe PDF viewer is a resource hog. I uninstalled any traces of it I could find in my add/remove programs part of my pc. Just a few minutes ago while reading another post here at BC, I discovered I had to install Adobe Flash player to view an article thru YouTube.
My question is how does flash differ from the pdf viewer? They're both an Adobe thing, right?

I opted to download a small viewer called Sumatra,by the way.

Thanks
honu1

A:Adobe flash player+Adobe pdf viewer

It's a different product and unlike Adobe Reader, there are no alternatives for Flash.

SITUATION
I created a pdf. file from a document that had 'fill-in forms'. I used Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0. to create the PDF file.

I then I burned the pdf. file on to a CD.

When I used my Adobe Reader 9.0 to open the PDF file, I could fill-in the forms, but not save them. I received a message that said I could not save the information, only print it unless I enabled the ‘local save capability’ in the original pdf. file.

I will be selling the CDs and need the buyer to be able to fill-in the forms, and then save the document on the CD or the buyer’s computer.

QUESTIONS
1. How do I enable the ‘local save capability’ on Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0, saving the document with the information typed into the fill-in forms?

2. How can I write protect the pdf. file so no one can edit it (except for the fill-in fields) nor duplicate the disk?

3. Has anyone bought a software product from www.SoftCaptain.com and if yes, what was your experience with the software product company?

A:Adobe Acrobat Professional & Adobe Reader

I can't answer all of your questions, but data on a CD is read only, you won't be able to save the edited file on that CD.
It can only be saved on the hard drive & then burned to CD again, if necessary.

I use both Adobe Reader 8 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. Whenever I open a pdf document, it always defaults to the Adobe Photoshop Elements. Is there a way to change the default so it opens with Adobe Reader? Thanks.

A:Adobe Photoshop Elements And Adobe Reader

Navigate to where you store your pdf files.
Right click on one of these files and a dialogue will open inviting you to nominate which prog you wish to open that file.
In that dialogue, scroll down to "choose a program", when that opens,?scroll?to?Adobe?Reader,?click?on?that?and?then?click?on?"always?use?this?program?to?open?this?type?pf?file"
Click?ok?out?of?that,?problem?should?be?solved.?

What's the big difference if any between shockwave player and flash player? I see both in the control panel.

However, one says I have flash player 10, but I have just now downloaded their newest version 10.1. And that's been the second time at least for the same update. ??

The other says I have shockwave player 11.5. Both are Adobe.

By the way, in the control panel and over on the right side, there's a column that lists how often used and also where you can delete a program. But with the new version, altho it's listed as loaded on the left side, the right is blank except for the word delete. In other words, no listing for size like all the other programs.
