Are there any free sync services that allow me to sync only select folders?

Q: Are there any free sync services that allow me to sync only select folders?

SugarSync had this capability where you simply checked specific folders you wanted to be synced. Are there any other sync services that provide this function?

So like my Desktop could be checked off as well as my My Picture's folders.. instead of just having one "Sync" folder.

I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

Can someone recommend backup services that sync ONLY on demand

So... not like Dropbox and others that syncs all the time automatically

I'm sure there are services that sync and backup - but simplicity is the key for me
I want to click one single button and forget about it all - all changes in files should be updated - just for that moment - and until I re-synch again - or maybe have a scheduled synch or something

Thanks in advance

As the title says, you can regain exchange active sync to Google services and make your calendar, contacts and mail tiles work again with 2 way sync on Google calendar and contacts.

Its not free but i rather pay the 30 bucks a year for this service and regain the integrated sync features to Google that they killed making the calendar tile useless. I think this even works with Outlook 2013 after setting up an exchange account.

The service is not new and its called Nueva Sync. You may try the service for 10 days and the premium subscription costs 30 bucks a year. It acts as an exchange server "bridge" between Google services and Windows 8 or even old nokia phones or any other smartphone with exchange capabilities.

Go to nuevasync.com and choose the free trial. Then choose Windows Phone and then choose email, contacts, calendar and tasks.

Setting up these items one at the time will ask you to give nuevasync access on your Google mail/contacts/calendar/tasks.

Then on Windows 8 you just need to setup an exchange active sync account on the mail tile, enter the nuevasync server details and voila.

Full 2 way sync of mail, contacts, calendar and tasks just like it was when Windows 8 was launched and before Google killed exchange active sync support for consumer user.

Hi Folks,

I use Bittorrent sync to sync my music folder across two computers. BTSync has managed to screw up, however, so now I need to sync these two folders such that no files are deleted, missing files are populated in the respective computer, and where conflicts occur (i.e. files are not identical), I'll either choose which one to keep, or just the latest version is kept.

In the past I'd probably use xxcopy to do something like this. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

A:how to sync partially sync'd folders

I use Beyond Compare to keep folders/files in sync, which is a 2-pane wonderfully powerful and wonderfully intuitive and simple to use product that can do anything you want.

You can update-to-left/right, or mirror-to-left-right, or simply compare and decide for yourself what you want to do.

You can also compare files (not just TXT files but other file types as well), with the two files presented in a side-by-side comparison so that you can decide what you want to do.

You can filter the display to show all, differences only, or equals only. You can also filter what gets compared (e.g. if you only want to compare *.FLAC, ignoring *.MP3, you can do that as well).

It's not free, but it does have a free trial. Give it a shot.

I cannot recommend it strongly enough. Been using it forever.

Hi all,
can anyone tell me or point me to a source that will give me clarity on the question if the GTX960M in the XPS15 9550 does support NVidia G-Sync via the USB-C/TB3 Port? Of course I would need an adaptor from USB-C to DP if the Screen only supports DP as Input but the question here is about the G-Sync capability of the XPS15/the GTX960M.
Thanks in adance

According to nVidia, the minimum GPU for G-sync is the GTX965m.

The notebook mainboard must also support G-sync  -- something I suspect the 9550 does not.

Hi
I got a Vundo Virus on my XP desktop (currently using my Vista Laptop) and it took some doing, but MalwareBytes seems to have cleaned it up.
I have notice two seemingly residual problems (at least I never had these problems before)

1. Live Sync doesn't sync the files.
I have been syncing the XP desktop to the Vista laptop and never had an issue, in fact it was one of the MS programs that I thought actually worked really well.
Now, everything says that it's working but nothing is syncing.
I checked the Port Status, Initiate Connection shows OK on all 4 ports, but Accept Connection has Blocked on all 4.
When I stop and restart Live Sync, I can see the Vista laptop goes thru all of the files, but does nothing after.
If I do the same on the XP, it seems to look and find no files to sync.
I have tried uninstalling and re-loading on the XP, no help.

2. My Windows 6.5 phone would not sync with ActiveSync either.
I found a troubleshooting post that said to uncheck in USB->PC "Enable advanced network functionality", so I did and the phone did sync, but before it did a warning came up on the phone saying that this would completely delete all contact, calender and mail data and they would be re-loaded with the sync (which IT did - took forever).

Did this Trojan screw with my syncing ability in a general way?

Thanks
Randu

Hi,
I've got a problem with Windows 7 service pack 1 machines that were installed between 2011 and 2015 using Sync Center.
On these machines, I do not get either
1. Sync Center icon in the taskbar
2. Sync Partnerships shown in Sync Center (accessed through Control Panel).
Sync does run, and the CSC cache contains an offline copy of the files. I simply need access so I can identify and troubleshoot Sync issues as the user.
A new imaged machine since 2016 does not have this problem.
We are running Lenovo machines and am aware of the Rapidboot issue, however that software was only installed on laptops and the problem is with both desktop and laptops.
I believe it may be down to Windows updates applied between 2011 and 2015.
From a machine that is NOT working, I have listed all the WSUS updates below that were install. This list however is approx. 150 updates and I do not want to have to remove each individually to find the problem. It may also not resolve the problem once the
update has been removed if I could even identify the update.
I have read that the following updates could cause problems, however after removing these two it made no difference.

Hi rambytes,

I'm looking into it.

Just one word of caution, synchronizing if not set right can lead to loss of files.

The PC hard drive at home has about 23,000 songs and my external usb hard drive contains those songs also, but I've added quite a bit to my external drive and my wife had added some to the PC at home while I've been away.

Can I use Microsoft's SyncToy 2.0 to get the 2 music folders in sync? I want the information to be both ways, meaning I want it to update the latest information like if all I did was change an ID tag on the external hard drive all that I want it to do is update the ID tag on the PC.

If you have a Gsync or Free Sync video card it should work with most monitors with or without the "sync" technology right?
If you have a video card that is Gsync for example, what exactly do you get if you buy/use a Gsync supported monitor? What will you actually see?
If you have a Gsync video card and buy a Free Sync monitor which may or may not support Gsync it should/would simply revert to "normal" connection and use??

Okay, this one is a doozy. We had our storage server OS drive crash on our domain which required a reinstall. Luckily the data stores were all there still on a separate RAID, so it was just a matter of redoing the shares after the reinstall. However
we ran into a problem with several laptop users.

As soon as they plugged into the network today, all the work they did during the outage appears to be gone. They appear only to have access to the files on the network (which of course isn't current). As a test, I've tried disconnecting them from
the local network to check their offline files (disabling wireless and unplugging the dock) and they appear to lose access to everything as a result now... both desktop and files.
I've attempted a sync in Sync Center but it simply says "Sync Pending" and hangs there.

When I try to navigate to view my offline files on the system through the Sync Center interface, it says "The system cannot find the file specified."

Out of curiosity, I tried manually navigating to Windows\CSC and access is denied. Even when attempting to take ownership as local admin, it still doesn't want to let me in.

As many of the solutions suggest, I know I could delete the cache and format the db and sync fresh from our network, but they will lose out on all the changes they've made to their documents over the past week or so. They may lose out on a significant
amount of work.

Any ideas on what to do? I read about an alternati... Read more

I will start at the beginning, it has been a frustrating couple of days since I had to reformat my hard drive.

I reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro sp1. I put the Microsoft firewall up to get the MS updates, and then I reinstalled Norton. I have a bug in my system that seems to be contained, for now that is.

I reinstalled office XP, and then i downloaded the update (SP3). I am not getting an alert that says that something is trying to get access to my Outlook contacts. I assume that it is my Hotmail account (yes, I do have the ability to download). I get the alert, click "OK" four or five times, and then Outlook locks up.

When I reformatted, I lost the software Sprint gave me to sync my Samsung i500 with Outlook. When I contacted them, they said tough, I had to buy more software. Frustrated, I broke down and bought Chapura. Now, I am probably so frustrated that I cannot get it started to sync even once.

Microsoft is now ignoring my requests for help to gain access to MSN mobile through my handheld. Does anyone have any infomration on how to get to msn mobile even though mobile.msn.com does not take me to a personalized homepage to get my information?

I am an intermediate user, so I know my way around a bit. I have a hijack this log available, as well as a Belarc run. Let me know if you need anything to help me with this problem. I am just frustrated.

Thanks.

Howdy all!

I recently went on holiday and upon my return I have discovered some changes to my work environment!
My pc now has Win7 x64 ! Another PC also contains win7. But we have two other PCs. One is a drafting machine with XP 64bit, the other a simple net machine with XP Pro.

In the past we used the XP breifcase to manage files and sync from the host/main pc (mine, now on win7). All other systems had a breifcase that was backed up daily.
The IT guru who came around and did the upgrade on my pc to Win7 has installed SyncToy2.1 (published by microsoft?) onto all the machines.

While it seemingly works ok, I have noticed today that sometimes it deletes folders/files and creates new folders/file of the same, even when no change has been made?

I also do not like the way you can not change the new/delete/overwrite selection as you could with the old briefcase.

I am looking for solid reccomendations on the best sync method. SyncToy is ok but has glitches. The breifcase is slow, and also doesnt seem to work with access databases. So bring on some options and help a fello win7 brother out!

A:What prog? Sharing/Sync folders between WIN7 & XP

Hi Grimace,

You could try using Robocopy, which used to come preinstalled on Vista machines. Here's a thread about alternatives to SyncToy: Windows 7 - SyncToy alternative - Sync folder with Network drive... - Server Fault

Hi everyone!

A few months ago I got MS Office 2010 Professional Plus, and have been using it more and more the past week. I prefer MS Office over Google Drive because of its wider range of text options which can help me make more professional looking documents.

I am frequently on the go, so I have my files on my laptop (Vaio S Series) and a flash drive as well. Is MS Office able to save the document on both my flash drive and computer so that they are synced? I know that when I'm working on the file from my flash drive I won't be able to sync the file with the one on my laptop, but I hate having to save new documents on my flash drive over and over again.

Thanks!

A:How to sync MS office documents across multiple folders?

im not aware of being able to save two copies of a file when saving an office file, however if you saved the original to your skydrive folder /subfolders that could save you the trouble of using the flash drive.

I have a desktop with 1.5tb of crap on it and I can't just clone it to my laptop
However I want to be able to keep things like iTunes library and game saves in sync
I also want it to
Not be automatic if I so desire
Be over wifi or USB cable
And I want it to sync the most recent of the 2 copies say I download a song on my laptop I want it to copy 2 my desktop but later if I get one on my desktop I want it to copy 2 laptop like a 2 way sync sorta thing
I'm also not looking for user friendly I can handle advanced stuff (sometimes that's even better) and can handle any REASONABLE price tags for this program or feature

I hope this is in the right topic area and thanks for the time and help.

A:program 2 keep certain (not all) files/folders in sync between 2 computers

I use something called SyncBack.

Cnet has a video on iTunes with multiple computers. I don't use iTunes so I'm not sure how well the software that's out there works.

A:Windows 7 Professional do not sync shared folders

Welcome to SF,

Do you have the shared folders mapped from the Win 7 machine? Try to disconnect and re-create the mapped drive, make sure that Reconnect at logon" checkbox is checked.

Hiya

What's the program to use for backing up my documents/photos/music etc partition? I used to use SyncToy with XP. Is it still the best way to go with Vista or is there something that will do it better?

Cheers

A:Best Back Up / Sync Program for Vista. And Free :)

Sorry, should have said - using an external USB Drive

Have just found the one included in Vista (oops - should have looked first!) but you can't tell it what folders to do - how good is it at actually selecting the right things?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a utility to synchronize files between my laptop and desktop machines. Specifically I would like a utility that is free, easy to use, and runs in the background keeping the files in sync.

The last few weeks I've been using a program called PowerFolder, but I'm having a lot of problems with it. Microsoft's SyncToy seems to work well, but it seems to copy files that don't really need to be copied and it doesn't run in the background.

Thanks!
Jacob

Am having some issues with Outlook 2010.

Program is locking up when first opened.

Icon on lower bar says " Outlook is syncing folders "

Sends fine, is getting stuck receiving 1 of 6 messages 7kb of 1.5 mb

Have gone into ISP mail portal & deleted all incoming mail. Looks to be trying to receive messages from couple days ago ?

I went off line & tried to delete a couple newer large ( 4-10 MB ) emails .

No luck deleting so when back online. Can still use the program somewhat.
Emails can be viewed , but not moved or deleted. Doing this will cause a premanent "processing" icon.

Still thinking those couple large files caused this & would like to find a way to delete them.

Other profiles in outlook work fine. Only the main default profile is freezing.

Thanks

Synctoy is very slow-is there something that is faster/better to back up my media folder?
One hard drive is primary-the second one is the backup...
Or is it going to be around the same speed for anything that large?

Hi there.
I'm using outlook2010 on two computers. Both have the same IMAP Gmail account set up.
When I'm accessing outlook 2010 on my laptop, I receive new headers but these same headers won't show up in my desktop outlook 2010. Since the same account is set up as IMAP no both computers, shouldn't I see the same inbox?

Thanks,

Gil

A:IMAP folders doesn't sync outlook 2010

Yes, you should. I had some trouble with Outlook changing my Port numbers when I would select SSL and TLS Authentication, which is likely your issue. Be sure to check the second computers settings so they are the following:

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL:imap.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 993 Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS:smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587 Account Name: your full email address (including @gmail.com) Google Apps users, please enter [email protected]_domain.comEmail Address: your full Gmail email address ([email protected]) Google Apps users, please enter [email protected]_domain.comPassword: your Gmail password

Reference

I think MS is still working some kinks out with the IMAP intergration so if all else fails you can switch to SMTP in the interim depending on your OS.

Hi,

I have a desktop, and a laptop, that I'd like to sync my movie, music and picture folders between (and maybe a few other folders as well if it works as expected).

The desktop has Windows 7 Home Premium and the laptop has Windows 7 Ultimate installed.

Both computers are connected to my home network via Wifi using a Cisco E2500 router.

I do have both Dropbox and Skydrive, however these services has a storage restriction. Also, I'm not interested to upload these folders to internet when they are just supposed to be synced between the two mentioned computers.

Is this at all possible?

I have setup a network for someone. it was working fine when i left it but it is used by a small organisation/charity so has lots of volunteers who aren't all very well versed in using computers. i set it up so they would all be able to share files through the public folders but for some reason the individual public folders on each computer can't see whats in the public folder for the other computer on the network. i have gone through the network and made sure all the sharing setting are correct. and can find each computer on the network , i can go into network and sharing centre and browse through the other computer's files that way but cannot utilise the public folder the way its meant to be.

any ideas?

You should first check in the Network and Sharing Center> Advanced Sharing Settings, there are separate settings for the Public folders that must be enabled in order to share the Public folders. You should check to ensure that Network Discovery and Printer and File sharing are both enabled.

You should also make share that the permission settings on the C:>Users>Public folder appear as in the picture.
