I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The FFFF error is a default 'I haven't got a clue what happened' type of error message, so far as I know.

Hello there. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit.
I've been having issues trying to update windows recently, so I've come requesting assistance.

The Error:

I've run SURT and SFC Scan, and the SFC scan detected corruption that it could not fix.

My internet is slower than most so I only included the log files in the download, if there was something else specific or you need to look at all the files (152Mb zip) I can upload those.

A:Windows 7 Update Error Code 8000FFFF

Hello Benjamin and welcome to Seven Forums.

My usual disclaimer: I'm not an expert at anything.
However, I recently began having problems with updates very similar to yours. I poked around and found out that a Windows Update from May 7 (KB3022345) was causing issues for a lot of people. See this previous Forum thread:

Windows 7 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files

I uninstalled and hid the offending update and ran the Microsoft Fixit tool. It solved my problems.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

Another possibility that might help is if you have a System Restore Point from before the issues began. You could try restoring your computer to that earlier time.

System Restore

Hopefully others will jump in with additional suggestions.

Days and Days of trying to repair this. This: Windows will not update. Periodic messages that my Windows is not genuine. One entire day of failed installation of clean install with Windows 7 USB stick provided by Dell. A few hours with a very sweet techie, who did the most basic stuff. I have run I think everything I could find on the internet. Nothing has worked. I've not tried the clean install in 2 days; at this point I don't want to give up on the repair, now that I've invested half my life in it. Help?!

I will post the other test results (already run, but I didn't understand the posting instructions) tomorrow.

A:Error Code 8000FFFF and Windows 7 Update

Commonly this error is caused by moving the Windows partition.

Quote:
On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x1AD' to display the error text.
Error: 0x1AD

... although I also see references to MDAC in a Google search.
The error is extremely rare, and there are no currently-known solutions, but let's do some basic checks first...

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Also...

Open Event Viewer

click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.

Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.

Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...

Save the file as Appevt.evtx

Repeat for the System log

then zip both, and upload them.

Your CBS logfiles are generating at a very high speed - and it's therefore likely that you have a huge amount of corruption.
There is no CheckSUR data in your upload - either you uploaded before it ran, or it failed before being able to generate a log.

please try again......

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -
then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and attach it to your reply.

Do a Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware scan/s

As some of you may recall, I have two different strings in this forum on the subject of Vista SP2 refusing to install, and as of this moment I never did get it to install in my laptop running on 32-bit Vista Home Premium. Finally, after four days of phone calls with MS Tech Support, who I am convinced were only guessing, they finally cleaned off the entire hard drive, then did a "clean install" of Vista (with no service pack). Vista still didn't work right, and finally after calling the laptop manufacturer (Dell) they got it done to where at least it functioned properly.

Now then, the latest problem is that after Dell fixed Vista and I downloaded 98 updates and such to my new Vista installation, THE PROBLEMS CONTINUE. Only 97 of the 98 updates installed. The one that did not was "Update For Windows Vista (KB9299777), a "recommended" update dates way back in 1/29/2007, and for that I have repeatedly gotten a "Code 8000FFFF Windows encountered an unknown error."

What does this error mean, and is this update really necessary? After 2 or 3 tries it remains UNinstalled, but is there really any great need for it? If so, how do I install it. Hi, When I try to use Windows Update I get an error message 8000FFFF. I have looked up some solutions, one of which tells me to launch REGEDIT and then go into HKLM|\components. I realise that I am very slow here but when I use the 'SEARCH' function on Vista and type in REGEDIT it just populates an evert growing list, rather than acting as just a search for REGEDIT. The solution suggested if I could ever get to REGEDIT under Components delete PendingXmididentifier NextQueueEntryIndex and AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving. Anyone know if this is a good solution but more importantly HOW DO I ACCESS REGEDIT!!!! Sorry for being so slow, Mick

Hello everyone,

recently i started having a pop up saying "your windows version is not genuine..." (text from memory)
(my windows is genuine, already installed when I bought the Asus computer)

I tried to update windows (quite a few updates to do, I could not use the computer for more than a month) thinking that it would solve the issue, but unfortunately the updates all stop with error 8000ffff.

Following the microsoft help, I tried this solution: Windows Update - erreur 8000FFFF . It was not enough to solve my problem.
Following your advice, I downloaded Microsoft Genuine advantage diagnostic tool, result is below.

I am also in the process of installing "System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)" (just taking a lot of time to finish). I will update the post with the results when (if?) it finishes and I can save the results.

I also did a scan with Avast, it came out clean.

EDIT : attached the CBS logs

Can you please help me understand the problem, and how to correct it?

Thanks,
Erwann

I did some googling and ran into several post that suggested uninstalling KB971033 (for the windows not genuine error), so I did that and the error message no longer shows.

The windows Malicious Tool update worked just fine.

Any ideas?

Uninstalling KB971033 just hides the problem, it does NOT solve it.
Please reinstall KB971033 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033 and then post an MGADiag report.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

I have five Win 8 64 bit files from Windows Update with the error code 8000FFFF - tried almost everything with no luck. I think these errors are stopping me from downloading the 8.1 upgrade. Can't even access Windows Store. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated

A:Error code 8000FFFF

Hi, Welcome to 8 forums.

If you receive Windows Update error 8000FFFF, it means that there are Windows*registry values that are blocking the update from being downloaded and installed.
Open the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button, typing regedit into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.* If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. In the left pane, find and double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and then click COMPONENTS.Right-click COMPONENTS, and then click Export. By default, this file is saved to your desktop, but you can choose any folder. In the File Name text box, type COMPONENTS. You have now created a back up copy of the registry values you're going to be removing. In the right pane, search for PendingXmlIdentifier, right-click it, and then click Delete. PendingXmlIdentifier might not be listed. In the right pane, search for NextQueueEntryIndex, right-click it, and then click Delete. NextQueueEntryIndex might not be listed. In the right pane, search for AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving, right-click it, and then click Delete.AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving might not be listed.Restart your computer and then run Windows Update again.

Keep us posted.

So I casually installed some updates with Windows Update. Several updates failed, I restarted computer as prompted.
Next thing I know I get bombarded with 30 or more pop-ups telling me things like; "The cordinal 282 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll" among other similar messages.

Most programs wont open anymore, chrome starts up but it wont connect anywhere.
To make it extra odd; the only reason I can type this message here is because Firefox still works perfect.

Not sure what to do, I've tried the following.
1. Scf /scannow - Found some corrupt DLL files, restarted and problem persists.

2. Manually uninstall all the updates that I installed today, I managed to delete all except two of them...

3. Tried uninstalling those updates using CMD with wusa command, no success. All I get is this error message; "Installer encountered an error: 0x8007371c".

4. I should mention that I do not have System Restore or Backup activated...

The "cordinal 282" message shows up like shown in the attachment but several times with different programs.

EDIT: Added CBS.log!!

At my wit's end. Cannot find the right answer anywhere. I had to use restore points to get Media Center TV Pack installed on SP1. It is working pretty well. Windows update had lots of problems but finally got SP2 reloaded. Now I'm looking to get Windows Live Family Safety installed, but it requires Platform Update. I read about how this fails because of issues in Update, but the "fixes" don't do any good. I've tried using the FixIt. I've tried installing standalone Update packages, related and unrelated. I've tried the manual fix that edits the registry. I haven't seen any other suggestions, besides start all over with a new install of Vista and try to do it all in sequence the right way the first time. I'm not even sure what that would be anyway and I really don't want to start all over just to get a peripheral bit of software to work. Anyone else find the "magic key" to this problem that is not sharing it out on the Internet?

Hey guys,

I've been looking for a solution to this for ages to no avail.

One thread on these forums looked promising but then just ended with 'I restarted and it worked.'

Well, here's the deal. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit running on my PC and it is fully activated.

When I go into Windows Update and click 'Check for updates' it says 'Checking for updates' and roughly 5 seconds later it says 'Windows could not search for new updates' with error 8000FFFF.

I tried installing the WindowsUpdateAgent-x86.exe but it fails to install, giving the exact same error code (says 'Install failed with following error number: 0x8000ffff')!

Alright, I think I got it. I hope this helps. This is from the MS technet forums:

Hi guys, seems like a recurring problem here. The fault is registry based and there's a simple solution to this one, it works for both 32 & 64 bit OSs. When you have tried to install this update restart and you'll be confronted with WU (Windows Update) saying an installation failed and it will allow you to a) try again or b) install - do neither! First click your start menu and look to see if the red shut down button has a ! on a shield - this means "shutdown & install" updates. if it doesn't show this click option a or b above until it does. Go to "Programs & Features" and click "View Installed Updates" (top left of dialogue box) - you then get a long list of KB?????? files, scroll down until you come accross the KB929777 update (i know! it must be installed if it's in the list! this is where the probl... Hello,

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi,
I have been having some recurring problems with the attempts to install some automatic windows updates.

Security Update for Microsoft Office Acess 2007
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email Filter

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Next to it an error code 80070643. Microsoft provides a solution to the problem, by re-installing Microsoft NET. Framework. They also provide a link to the program NET. Framework cleanup tool that enables you to uninstall NET. Framework, and it's components.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to solve the issue, though I've been put at a standstill. I have used the NET. Framework Cleanup tool to uninstall NET. Framework and it's components (states that it uninstalls all versions, 1.1 SP1 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5.) Then afterwards instructed to reinstall NET. Framework, specifically in an order, 3.5 then, 1.1, then 1.1 SP1. I start with 3.5, then as the installation starts it says that to contiunue installation I must turn off or on windows features in the Control Panel. I do so and turn off all Windows features. Then continue and it again states to turn off features in the Control Panel.

I wasn't able to continue the process, and I am also concerned that this is the same error that made me unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials, (as t... Read more

I was given an HP Compaq Presario C500 that was headed for the garbage because it would not connect to the internet. After running several scans ESET online scanner came up clean. Installed Microsoft Security Essentials and installed SP1, and can't get it to install SP2. I keep getting error code 80070017 / Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I would prefer to reformat but Recovery Manager restarts back into Windows and I have no disks.

Can provide a long list of what has been done if needed including WU Modules (Normal Mode) and WU Components fixes. Permissions point in every which way but the correct way!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Free space is presently @ 42.3 GB of 68.9 GB on C: Drive (started out with 7.3 GB's free space! )
and 4.91 GB free of 5.53 GB on Presario_RP (D)

Specs as follows:
Vista Home Basic
Intel (R) Celeron (R) MCPU
[email protected] 1.60GHz 1.60 GHz
512 MB RAM
32-bit OS
Denied access to the CBS folder itself though can access CheckSUR.log which I am including along with sfcdetails.

When i try to install my windows update, i always get both error code 800F0900 and 800B0100. i tried installing the updates manually, used MS Fix it and the system update readiness tool. I use sfc /scannow and it says "No integrity violations found". Still error. Can anyone help? I have uploaded my CBS zipfile to googledrive CBS.rar - Google Drive. (Since datahost is not working.) and attached the sfc text file overhere.

I have tried Windows Update Troubleshooter then tried windows update again and a new error Code 80246007 appear.
