Q: Solved: CMOS settings problem american megatrends.

hi folks. good day to you all. my name is max. i can install windows and manage basic troubleshooting related to software without any problems. a couple of months back i installed windows xp on my friends computer and it was working fine but a month after installation, when he booted the comp up, he would get the startup options msg (safe, normal and so on) instead of windows booting up normally. when he tried to boot it up in any mode, the windows xp loading logo would just appear and windows just kept restarting. i thought it might be a software problem ,so i made a fresh install of xp and it was working fine . but now once again the same problem seems to have occured. this screen pops up when he starts the comp. i have included the image he sent me (its a bit blurry but you can make out whats on it). i searched about it and as you can see in the image, the problem seems to be about CMOS settings. now, from what i have learned so far after researching about it is that its either the CMOS battery that has lost its charge, died, or maybe its just a CMOS (or bios? not sure) settings problem. can you guys please take a look at the image and tell me what exactly is wrong and what steps i would have to take to fix his problem? thank you in advance.

Preferred Solution: Solved: CMOS settings problem american megatrends.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The American Megatrends screen has recently appeared at boot up but boots past so quickly I cannot get to read it. I think I glimpsed something like "BIOS not configured properly" at bottom of screen but am not really sure. How do I pause the boot in order to read the AMI screen? Pause/break button does not do it.

What does this mean?

A:American Megatrends

This means that the hard drive is about to fail. S.M.A.R.T is a utility that monitors the health of the hard drive and reports any potential problems, like an early warning system. When it says "S.M.A.R.T Status Bad" This is not a good thing. Does it give you an option to bypass and get to Windows? If so backup your important data.

Hello, experts!
For the past few weeks, I've been seeing the AMI screen everytime I turn on my computer. It wasn't like that before, so I have no clue why it's showing up now. I pressed f1 and f2 numerous times and went through every session, still I cannot find the problem of why it keeps appearing during startup.

Since I just received a new computer this April, I'm not very familiar with the new AMI then I was with Windows XP. Instead, I used screen-shot to show my AMI screen. I hope this will help!

Hi I have windows 7 on my pc. When I start up my pc it shows this weird message. I know it's not a virus cause I have a very good antivirus on. It says the following: American Megatrends - Usb Device Over Current Status Detected !!!

S.M.A.R.T Status Bad , Backup and Replace
System wil shut down in 15 seconds!!!

A:American Megatrends message unknown

OK, you are running the system overclocked. Not too much however it shows both ram and cpu running faster than normal. It is probably the board failing however the very first thing I would do would be to return ALL settings to stock. Clear RTC [cmos] to return settings to stock. Once you clean RTC, pull the pw connectors from ALL drives; both hd and optical. Now disconnect any usb device ie printer, scanner, external drive, etc.

Pw ON and see if the board will successfully complete POST.

Remember there is NO safe overclock. All overclocking entails some degree of risk.

My computer is working fine, excpet for one minor detail...

My Asus P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe doesn't like my new 4GB of 800MHz ram. The ram is fine. XP 32 bit runs fine with only 2-3 GB in use, but Vista Ultimate 64-Bit is terrible, running at least 5 times slower and maxing out the processor and freezing a couple of minutes just to open Fire Fox. I am considering buying a new mobo, but I heard there is another way.

Some people have gone into their BIOS and enabled an option called "Memory Remapping," which fixed the problem. The catch is: My BIOS doesn't have that option for some odd reason... Surprise, surprise after my cellphone provider had to send 2 SIM cards to me for the phone to work and my External Backup HD had failed just a couple of months after I bought it(Goodbye 100+ Gigabytes of data).

I checked the manual that went with my mobo, and the bios version in the manual and on my computer were EXACTLY the same! Though, the menu in the Manual had many more options than did the one on my computer. So, I go to Asus's website and download the latest official (not beta) driver. Then, I pop in the Asus CD that came with my mobo and tried to run "Asus Update". Every time I run this I get an error message: "Unable to create NT driver... Read more

Need to know will the HP 110-220z American Megatrends BIOS support booting from an Ubuntu Live DVD ISO  on a usb thumb drive with a boot sector I need to fix a Ubuntu 16.04 load sectors corruption problem.  the cd/dvd drive has diedbeen through all the disable security and finally got the USB thumb drive listed in the memory list.  The version of the BIOS is 2.15.126 I have not been able to find any specs on what it can and cannot do. Now I have lost Ubuntu Grub loader and the machine starts loading win7 each time. It has not been used for over 2 years and Microsoft will demand two days of updates be loaded before I can access any drive from it. I need the live CD Ubuntu to load from the thumb drive so I can fix grub and use utilities to fix the inability to read certian sectors. The support page for that model indicates it came with Windows 8.1, which means it should also have UEFI BIOS.  Depending on the way the Ubuntu Live was added to the flash drive, it might not be done correctly.  See this page on Ubuntu and UEFI BIOS.  BTW: it needs to be a 64bit installhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI

Ok, so before you reply, please make note that I didn't build this pc myself, it was custom built in a company by order. I don't know a thing about inside of computer. Of course, I know the main parts, but repairing or tinkering, nooo.

Pc specs:
Intel i5-2400 3.1 Ghz Quad Core
8 GB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce 550ti Graphics Card.

The thing is, in my opinion, this pc is properly cooled and built, because I've been having it for almost a year and I've never had this problem before.

So okay, I got back home and turned on my pc. And I noticed a problem. My video was slow. Videos on youtube were slow and choppy, I tried like moving windows and their movement was slow. At first I thought its a video card or monitor problem and I tried rebooting my pc. When I pressed restart, before booting windows, the computer shows the window:
American Megatrends

(Computer info)

CPU over temperature error!
Press F1 to continue setup.
Is it really overheated? Because I've never had this problem before, I didn't had it the other day I was using it and I'm using it a lot. What to do? I really can't just open up the case and see the problem, I'm not that experienced.

A:American Megatrends - CPU Over Temperature ERROR

Why can't it be overheating? Things do break, or come loose, and they can get dirty too.

Download HW Monitor and see what the CPU/Core temps are, for that matter check all the temps. Best would be to post a screen shot of HW Monitor.

HW Monitor: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

If the computer is truly overheating then it will need to be opened up to see why.

A friend of mine came to me with this problem. He has an American Megatrends motherboard and can't get it to boot past the Checking NV RAM.. part

here is what is on the screen when it freezes
American Megatrends
AMIBIOS
TYAN TSUNAMI AT V2.00.01 012520001800
Intel 440BX AGPset

P II, 400Mhz
Checking NVRam..

then down at the bottom of the screen it says
62-0101-00999-0010111-071595-440BX/GX-51830001-5

What we have done:
Switched PCI video card to another PCI slot
Disconnected everything but the floppy/cd/harddrive
Reseated the RAM, switched RAM slots, and tried different RAM modules with ones that are known to work.

He says 1 time it made it past checking NVRam (where it counts the RAM) and then froze when it first said hit del to enter BIOS.

Edit: He also remembered that when he first booted he had 3 RAM modules in and all it would say is American Megatrends with the logo and that was it, so he removed 2 and left 1 and thats where we are now.

2nd Edit: When I asked him what happens when he tries it with no RAM he says "nothing, it beeps".

Anyone have any ideas on what to try next? Could it just be that the motherboard is bad where the RAM fits?

A:Problems getting to POST on American Megatrends MOBO

Alright - I just recieved word that it now works. Which leads me to believe that even though it appeared we had the RAM set properly it wasn't.
Now it boots into Win98 and just gives the usual errors when you don't have proper drivers installed and such, I'm going to let him work on that on his own because I think he has a pretty good handle on getting that set straight.
(he pulled this PC together from scrap parts so even getting this thing to run is a plus for him)
I'll post back with any other motherboard related problems that might crop up.

Here's the problem: When I start my computer, I'll get a black screen with a bunch of text with "American Megatrends" as the header. The screen is unusual, and on the bottom it says "CPU fan error!, press F1 to continue." If I simply press f1 and ignore it, my computer eventually shuts off, and restarting my computer doesn't get my display back, I have to reset my cmos.

Things that I've tried: Now, I had this problem before, and my computer doesn't have a cmos switch, so I had to take out the battery for a couple minutes, and that worked.
Today I woke up to have the same problem. Only this time, when I took out the battery and put it back, the problem persisted.
So I tried entering my system setup and set "CPU fan speed" to ignore, that still did nothing.

So I'm aggravated, annoyed and helpless. Any help would be appreciated.

There is usually an option to set it back to the factory settings. If you do this you will more than likely need to reset your CPU, and hard drive settings again.

This is only happening about every 10 tenth time I start the computer. When the computer is turned on, a message is displayed (white text and black background) that the "CMOS/GPNV Checksum Bad, CMOS Date/Time Note Set, Press <F4> to Run SETUP".
Windows XP is started and the time for the computer is set to January 1, 2002 01:00AM. I can manually change the date/time in Windows to the correct time. However, this is happening only occasionally. How can I prevent this from happening?
I have ran anti-virus scan and no viruses were found. Also, downloaded the latest version of Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy and scanned the computer, nothing was found. Ran Disk Defragmenter and ScanDisk and no errors were found.

I receive a diskboot failure when I turn on my computer. I tested the hard drive on another PC and it is fine.

The last intelligent message I received was that I have a CMOS problem and checksum errors.

I have an Award Modular Bios 4.51PG dated 7/2/1999.

How can I reset the CMOS and/or BIOS so that it can detect the hard drive properly. I can't get to the floppy drive for some reason, even though the boot sequence is set to C:A:CDROM

The CPU is an AMD K-2 360MHz.

Help!

I'm having a problem that's driving me crazy. I have to turn on my computer three times to get to CMOS, which has to be fixed every time I want to turn it on. PNI/pcp (Configuration reset data) has to be enabled to do anything. A drive(floppy), replaced two weeks ago, failing on every boot. I've uninstalled ME, ran ad aware, solo antivirus, hijack this, and Spybot so many times I'm starting to hate them. I've tried a Windows Update, but it's having problems installing after several tries. Fans are working, but all are listed at 0 rpm in CMOS.I've taken the case off and seen them working. Intel Celeron 600 , startup list looks ok to me.

The purpose of having the CMOS chip powered by a small battery is to maintain the date, time, and computer configuration when the power to the computer is turned off. Best chances have it that the battery needs replacing.

ok guys , my bro got a comp P IV which is
PENTIUM(R) 4 1.50 GHZ(100 x 15.0)

now question 1 ? wat does this 100 X 15 mean.

I went to BIOS to check out some settings and came out to

FREQUENCY VOLTAGE CONTROLLER in which

1. CPU CLOCK RATIO ... WAS SET TO 8 ...u have a option to take it till 22 . When the setting was at 8 , comp use to run very slow just like a PIII or something , I changed it to till 14 by trial and error method and stabilty checked. Now I wanna know HOW MUCH MORE I CAN GO !? I am guessing 15 ...If I do go above ,will that be overclocking ??

2. AUTO DETECT PCL CLK { enabled } !!! Wat does this mean

3. SPREAD SPECTURM < disabled> ? again meaning
some1 please do explain me the meanings and If I do overclock how much should be the optimum limit and now there are 2 fans in the cpu , one BIIIIIIG one over the CPU , one normal , one as everone has from the main powerthingy <wat do u call it>

SHOULD I PUT MORE fanIN THERE ? IF YES , WAT ABOUT CABLES REQUIRED ?

and any utility to check the temprature of the cpu ?

thanx u

P4 as any cpu's ( AMD ) runs on a "formula" which goes like this.
Front Side Bus ( FSB ) X Internal cpu multiplier= speed of your cpu
Now to your case the 100 is the FSB and 15 is the multiplier so you get a 1.5 Gig P4
1. when you set the cpu clock ratio (= internal cpu multiplier) you acctually underclocked the P4 ( again back to the formula ..100 X 8= 800 Mhz P4) so no wonder that it was slower then a P3
2. If my memory serves me right you acctually have a AUTO DETECT PCI CLK not PCL , which acctually tell the CMOS that it will auto detect the speed on which the devices that use the PCI bus will run
3. In order to reduce the EMI ( electro magnetic interference ) newer motherboards incorporate a SPREAD SPECTRUM which basically try's to minimize the "intereference " inside the computer ( signal wise)
For overclocking tips and how to go to www.overclockers.com and check out there web site for all the info regarding o/c'ing the P4

I have a soyo motherboard with Ver. 6.00 PG Phoenix bios.
It is a 3.2 Gig processor by intel. The soyo motherboard is
SY-P41875P dragon 2 V1.0.

I would like to speed up the boot-up or dram setting to make it faster.
Is this possible in the CMOS BIOS settings?

Please give me some setting for best BIOS/CMOS settings.
Thanks

Not knowing your Bios, there is a possibility that you can set the post to fast boot, which would bypass the POST Screen, but that would only give you a few seconds boot time savings.

I have recently installed a new power supply due to the fact that the other one had seen the light. Now when I try to start up the system, the POST test is just fine but then I get the message that there is a CMOS setting wrong. (See picture) The system boots in windows and everything looks okay except the fact that my mouse and keyboard are not working. Any advice on whats going on?

Did you try setting the bios to default? Or removing cmos battery for about 5 secs. ? This might reset the bios for you. This may resolve your problem. If not post back.

Hi,
My partner has Windows 2000 Pro installed and when she went to start up this message came up CMOS Settings Wrong. Also had lost some time on the clock. Was wondering if it was the battery and if it is where is it and how do you change and reset.
Thanks for any help.

A:CMOS Settings Wrong.

On the motherboard you will see a battery like in a watch but larger (usually) I would say that the battery needs replacing....take it out take it with you to any PC store and get a replacement..their not expensive...Put it in and restart the PC.
