Bugcode_USB_driver BSOD - Could this be my USD drive?

Q: Bugcode_USB_driver BSOD - Could this be my USD drive?

Hi.

I've been having loads of PC problems recently and its getting me down. Just as I thought I had it stable I noticed this.

I keep getting Bugcode_USB_Driver blue screen. But it only seems to happen overnight when i'm not there to see if anything is causing it. But if its happening while the PC isn't really being used how on earth is it happening?

The only thing running is O&O Defrag. One of my external drives (1TB Seagate) is highly fragmented and it seems like it will take hours to complete, but it never manages to finish because while leaving it running I wake up to a BSOD. I manage to have it running a few hours a day but no BSOD occurs, just when I check it after a night of sleep!

Could this be the problem? My external drive is going dodgy?

I've tried uninstalling all usb drivers and changed the usb port its using. And just to eliminate things, a system overclock would not cause this right? Its not running too hot and has been stable for months before now.

This is incredibly frustrating and would like some advice and help.
Thanks

David

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi my PC would not boot up this morning but I was able to start it in safe mode. When the internet connection did not work I unplugged and replugged the Inventel WiFi receiver, soon after which I got the BSOD described above.

Since then the PC will come on pressing the button but nothing happens thereafter, I cannot hear the fan coming on, the hard disk spinning or its indicator light coming on.

I tried booting with the windows 7 DVD but nothing happens.

Please help, this is my daughter's PC who is preparing for her GCSEs!!

1-Please remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, called sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads DuplexSecure - FAQ

when you're done you can use this Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) in its place.
2-update these old drivers

Hello Charlie Justice

Have you tried reinstalling the USB drivers?

Make sure all USB devices are unplugged
Right click My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager
Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Right-click the device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers and then click Uninstall to remove it.

Repeat this with every entry under Universal Serial Bus controllers until they are all gone.
Reboot your system, and windows will detect the new hardware and re-install the drivers.

Have been getting BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER crash pretty randomly for about the last month or so. I didn't make any big hardware or software changes so I can't figure out what the problem is. It doesn't seem to be linked to any specific USB device being connected either.

I reformatted my system when the BSOD started, which solved the problem for a few weeks, but it's come back again. I also tried following the USB driver steps (USB Driver - General Fix for Problems), which seemed to work for a little while. I followed the tutorial again last night, though, and got the BSOD this morning. Also updated drivers as best I could. The BSOD happens at random intervals--I'll go a week without getting it and then it will crash 3 times in one day.

Any help would be appreciated. I've attached a zip with the dump files (hopefully done correctly).

Welcome aboard, zycer.

First, Turn on USB Selective Suspense.

Then, if you use any USB keyboard and mouse, update the drivers from manufacturer's website.

And, if there are any USB device attached, say bluetooth or external HDD, remove those.

Let us know the situation after that.

I have been getting Blue Screen every once in a while from what the Blue Screen says is bugcode_usb_driver. In the last couple of months it happened every couple of weeks, but now it is becoming more frequent. I thought it was because my graphics driver was out of date but that wasn't it either.

It happens somewhat randomly. Sometimes I'll be reading a webpage and it'll go off, other times it's when I'm trying to set the computer to hibernate or sleep mode. It never goes off when I'm playing a game or watching a video. The computer acts normally and it boots just fine.

I'm on an Asus G60JX laptop running windows 7, I'll post the Sysinfo and some of the mini-dumps. I'll post anything else you guys need to help.

Thanks so much.

Hello,

Im new here.

I search for this particular BSOD and I found at least three of the same postings but, basically, I never got an error code, and it seems that the dmp file is always needed.

So, I was using DVDFAB, and watching a youtube video. All of a sudden, this BSOD came up and it restarted.

First time this has happened.

My system is a:

However, I always have USB devices connected:

Hi Everyone
I saw my first BSOD on my Sony VAIO Laptop which really freaked me out. I tried reading what it said but I couldn't make head or tail of it since I have very little of technical computer knowledge. At the very start it said "BugCode_USB_Driver" and at the end there was something about crash dump being complete and that I had to restart my computer.
I've also been experiencing other problems with the USB Driver. I keep getting these  notifications while using my computer that the USB device wasn't recognized or not functioning, even when there was no USB device plugged into the computer. Also, when I plug in USB drives, there's some error in recognizing the input. It doesn't happen every time but is quite frequent. Also, when the USB is plugged in, its connection gets cut midway despite the fact that the USB is in the same position and hasn't been moved yet.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome looks like a usb problem
Update usb drivers from device manager
If all are updated already
it may be corruption
uninstall each and then boot computer, they should update. Do one at a time
If that does not work
disconnconnect your external devices one at a time and test for BSODs. Try to find out which usb is the problem.

Looking in I can see that the LED on the motherboard is green.

I tried booting with the windows 7 DVD but nothing happens.

Please help, this is my daughter's PC who is preparing for her GCSEs!!

Can you boot into safe mode (F8)?

Hello,
for the past few months I've been having random BSOD crashes. There does seem to be consistent behaviour that causes them. I have been getting USB errors randomly, sometimes when I am not even using the computer.

I do not have any usb devices plugged into my usb ports, though I do occasionally get pop-up messages saying "One of the USB devices attached to your computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it". If I check my USB devices in device manager there is often an "unknown device".

I've attached a screenshot of a bluescreen, a Perfmon report, and Sysnative File Collection bundle. I am currently running driver verifier. At least I think I am. I ran it as instructed and then rebooted my computer, but I don't see it as a running process, so maybe I did something wrong there.

Thanks in advance,
David

All of these were caused by your USB driver. Also of note are drivers that go as far back as 2005. they need updating.

I would install a fresh copy of the USB driver and run a a system file check. To run a system file check type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (note the spce between sfc and "/")

Let us know the results.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.

Hi, im using my mobile phone internet for usb tethering when i got this BSOD. My board is updated using MSI Live Update

See attached for the logs

A:BSOD - bugcode_usb_driver

Asmedia, Etron and intel .... 3 different type of xhci (usb3) drivers are installed there.

Conflicts may occur, for sure.

I would suggest you to go for a clean install. Then decide only one controller for USB3 and use that one. Hopefully that will solve the issue that you are having with the connectivity of the phone, too.

This is pretty much starting to drive me nuts. I just upgraded my machine to W8 a few days ago and it seems to be happening more frequently, although it happened pretty often with W7 too, same BSOD message. Most of the time I am just listening to music in iTunes when it happens. When the computer restarts, I ALWAYS have to unplug and plug back in my wireless USB dongle to get my internet back on. I have installed the latest drivers for everything I can think of. I need some help before I throw this thing out of a window.

Thanks,

Welcome
You had several dump reports each givning a different driver as a cause. One gave memory, at this point, I think that the most likely cause of your problem.

Download memtest86 and test RAM
www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
Run for 8 passes
If passes try a good stick in each slot for 3 passes
If fails do the same for 8 passes.

It may take several attempts more to resolve your problem. The cause is not clear at this point, but memory seems the most likely.

Hi,
I've had this error twice in the last 6 weeks.  Yesterday it occurred while running dBpoweramp Music Converter to convert some audio files.  The input was from a folder on a USB external drive and the output was going to another folder on the same drive.  The first time it occurred I was backing up a folder on a USB external drive to another USB external drive.  I have a TASCAM Audio Interface USB connected to the laptop, and I believe it caused other BSODs due to a tscusb2.exe many months ago.  I wanted to make you aware of the TASCAM device in case it doesn't show up in any of the reports I've run.

I'm running Windows 7 Sp1 64-bit mode on a Toshiba laptop Satellite A505-S6980 Part No PSAT0U-00M001  with 4GB of RAM.  The OS has not been changed or reinstalled, and was already installed when I bought the laptop at Best Buy.  The CPU is a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6600, and the video card is a Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family.  I think the laptop is about 5 1/2 years old.  Attached are the two zip files.

Hi all,

I just joined the forum, hoping someone out there can help resolve this issue. I have an HP desktop and am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I purchased the computer in November with the operating system already installed on it. I haven't had any problems with it until the other day...now I keep getting a BSOD that says something about bugcode_usb_driver. I've tried researching the problem online but I have no idea what I'm doing honestly. I would post more information but I don't know where or how to find the error on my system. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

go to C:\Windows\Minidump
Copy the .dmp files in there and zip them up, attach the zip file in your next post using the "Go Advanced" button, then click the paper clip icon to browse and attach the zip, then hit the upload button.

Hello, I'm having extreme difficulty with my desktop PC. Over the last few days I've been getting BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER BSOd crashes. The only new device to the machine is a Samson C03U Condenser Microphone, which doesn't appear to be the issue - the machine crashes even if it's unplugged. The crashes have been getting worse, to the point the machine is now crashing every five minutes. I'm having to write this post on my Surface RT.

I've just about managed to get a zip of the .dmp files via Windows 8 Log Collector. I would appreciate if someone could locate where the problem may lie, and how I can go about resolving the issue.

Much appreciated!

The only new device is your mic.

what other USB devices are connected?

Is your web cam USB or built in?

Your last crash at 10:44pm June 1 was caused by your ATI graphics adapter..

Uninstall all the Asus Utilities Like PC Probe etc. then see whether it makes any diference

MarvinBus64.sys is most likely related to Pinnacle so i would recommend to update those drivers are well Pinnacle Systems - Product Support

My machine hasn't been shutting down properly. It's been attempting to shutdown but ends up displaying a BSOD dump that seems to be related to USB drivers and then it restarts.

I noticed in another thread that seeing the minidump information might be helpful in finding the problem, so I've attached a zip file that I hope will help.

Computer info:
Dell Inspiron 570
Windows 7 Home Premium (SP-1)
3.00 GHz Processor
4 GB RAM
64-bit System

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks....

Hi cadd2813.

In this situation, only crash dumps are not sufficient. Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions. Al least upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Also, upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
These will help us to go deeper that the "probably caused by: usbhub.sys" pointed by the crash dumps.

Welcome to SevenForums.

The BSOD was caused by AMD USB Filter Driver (likely part of the chipset drivers). Look for a possible driver update.

Hello. I am having serious issues regarding the Blue Screen of Death(BSoD). Ok, the problem originated when I aquired a PCMCIA adapter for my computer, so I could access the internet from my desktop. Now, whenever I use the Internet, I will occasionally get the BSoD, causing my computer to restart. This is especially a problem when I am downloading files from the internet or playing an online game. The title for the BSoD is "BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER", the error code 0x000000FE, and the parameters are:
parameter1 00000005, parameter2 8972f0e0, parameter3 10330035, parameter4 895882d8.
According to the Miscrosoft developer network, the problem is
"A hardware failure has occurred due to a bad physical address found in a hardware data structure. This is not due to a driver bug."
So how do I know what hardware is the problem? How do I fix it? Can I fix it?

A:BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER BSoD Problem

After using the event manager, I noticed that while Parameters 1&3 remain the same for every error, Parameters 2&4 change for every error.

I tried to do as suggested for a BSOD issue, and download the dump & system file collection program...but my pc is in such bad shape it won't even recognize a .exe file and asks me what program I want to use to open it. I try to save it so I can double-click to open, but it won't let me save it either.

I'm getting all sorts of problems, including a BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER error with my BSOD, a low disk storage error, and my pc won't do anything intensive such as watch videos on YouTube, etc.

To give a hint, I did have some sort of virus issue in December and the issues started at that time. Norton now says I don't have any virus issues, but the damage apparently has been done.

I was also getting errors something about the video display stopped responding and then recovering...but this has stopped recently.

Anything you can do to help me, I'd appreciate it.

Update - I just did what was in this thread...

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/165554-usb-driver-general-fix-problems.html

and I've not had much time to see if it fixed much...but I still cannot watch YouTube videos...I get all the text to load, but the video itself is just a black box and won't do anything.

Hey i was wondering if anyone can help me. Preface: my computer is 7 years old and last month started to overclock it, also upgraded ram.

Everything was stable when i overclocked until recently my computer started to crash. First off i stopped the overclock (even though i don't think
it has to do with it). My computer first crash did not get BSOD right away, it was a week ago, some USB outputs stopped working like my audio interface and keyboard, also my display output stopped and my monitor went black, but my computer was still running.
I restarted and certain USB's were not working by the time i got to the login screen so i restarted a second time everything worked fine until a week later, yesterday. My computer turned off in the same manner 6 times only lasting after restart 30-10 minutes
each time before usb audio and display cut offs. Finally i got a BSOD BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER , i have tried updating my windows updates and updating drivers but my computer says they are all to date maybe i should delete and reinstall. Here is my minidump and
mscofig if anyone can help that would be awesome!

Hi everyone,

I have been having BSODs for over 8 months now. I could endure it up till now where it happens like 6 times per day. I think it started when i started using my iPod nano. but that is just a hunch. I would be really grateful if some one can tell me how to fix this.

Here is the minidump

A few things to do. First, your SFEP driver is out of date (SONY Firmware Extension Parser driver). It manages the power for your laptop, so it may be causing power issues with the USB hubs. Please provide your full VAIO model number/letter sequence. There are a number of VPCEA models; just doing an estimated count of those listed when I search for VPCEA, there are over 200 of them...

Hi lovejulien.

Click on the button below ....

It will download the DM log collector. Right click on the application and run as administrator. It will generate a .zip file on your desktop. Upload the .zip.
Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

Also upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
We can start debugging after having those information.
