Help! Ideapad touchpad mouse goes crazy.

Q: Help! Ideapad touchpad mouse goes crazy.

Hi, I have an Ideapad Y430 that was purchased January this year. The problem I am facing is that the touchpad mouse goes crazy when I am sitting with the laptop at certain angles.Particularly, if I am lounging on a couch with the laptop sitting in my lap... The mouse pointer goes crazy and windows start opening up and I can see left and right click menus coming up on the screen even when I am not touching the mousepad on the laptop.I have no problems using USB mouse though.I was wondering if anyone here has faced a similar problem and if so, what is the solution.I have tried checking for updated drivers and even installing Windows 7 but it is the same problem no matter what and it is pretty frustrating. I will appreciate any help on the issue Thanks,Sunny

Preferred Solution: Help! Ideapad touchpad mouse goes crazy.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Help! Ideapad touchpad mouse goes crazy.

I think the case interferes with the mouse when you rest your hands on it. My Fujitso, Dell and Lenovo have the same problems. It is ok if I don't lean my hands on the case and just touch the keys. Maybe the have the same vendor making the mouse pad.

Dear all,
I have a strange problem with my laptop (toshiba satellite pro U300, operative system windows xp professional). The left click of the mouse is working completely random. When I open ANY new window sometimes it works sometimes it does not. And when it does not work i cannot click anywhere else (the mouse pointer still moves though). The only solution is pressing ctrl-alt-canc, opening task manager and closing it right after (i do not need anything else, just opening and closing it). In this way it starts to work again. Other noticed problems: when i use firefox most of the time i click over a link the window suddenly loads back to the previous displayed page, as if i had pressed the backspace button. Finally when i use thunderbird if i click for example over "incoming mails" it sudden jumps over "sent mail" or some other place. It is impossible for me to work. And guys IT IS NOT THE MOUSE, because i tried to disconnect it and using the touchpad and i have the same problem. I restarted twice the computer but nothing changed. I scanned my pc with AVG, there was a virus called Gaelicum.A (see log below) but it was healed (note that the exe files within the path C:\condivisa\incidenze2.1.0 are fortran files that i wrote and compiled, they are not virus. I restarted other 2 times but it is still not working.
Any suggestion?
thank you very much

Hi afrojacksed  ,
Welcome to the Community Forums .
For missing drivers in Device Manager:
Most drivers uploaded from the support site are certified tested drivers by the manufacturer's engineers .
This doesn't limit users to customize their installation of operating system and likewise drivers .
Microsoft Windows 7 would also have its own native driver thru device manager update driver option.
On device manager , update driver and browse my computer , let me pick  option for the generic driver.
Just like having a custom built machine with a retail OS to get proper drivers you can use the hardware ID's and getting it directly from the manufacturer of the device .
Steps using hardware ID then searching it via google.
Checking on PCIDatabase for the manufacturer /vendor and related drivers.
For Hotkey specific buttons:
Download and install this  .
Check also on Hotkey if enabled on BIOS .
Turn off the pc and use the Novo Button (number 6 page 7)
From the Novo menu choose BIOS set up. Configuration tab , hotkey switch.
Then save and exit from the Exit Tab .
Update us how it goes.

so i have the Lenovo ideapad 320. I have had it for 5 days now. This morning zhen i woke up my touchpad mouse was disabled so i had to enable it again. After enabling it i realised that i can't scroll or zoom in/out anymore with my touchpad. So i downloaded a Recommended ELan on the lenovo site that was listed with the ideapad. After downloading it i realised it wasn't for an ideapad but for a notebook. I quickly deleted this but now my mouse (touchpad) is acting weird and i still can scrool/zoom.

I have weird issues after the last fall creators update of Windows 10 on my relatively new ideapad 100s 11iby.On battery mode mouse and touchpad stop working after 2 unused seconds. To reactivate I only need to hit a key on the keyboard or a mouse/touchpad button. With this issue, the notebook is nearly unusable... I solved half of the problem with the informations in this link:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/touchpad-disables-when-on-batt... The Touchpad acts totally normal again, but the Mouse-problem still exists. Is this a known problem or does a solution (workaround) exist? Best regardsB.

Have had Y410p for years without this issue. Now when I move the mouse cursor across the screen, it auto clicks/auto selects (without me tapping or clicking) and then release automatically as well. It will do this continuously as I keep moving the mouse cursor with the Touchpad. This is super annoying and causes multiple issues with my ability do most things on my Lenovo laptop. The two biggest problems are: click buttons which I do not intend and selecting/moving icons & screens which I do not intend. And it makes it nearly impossible to use the laptop for gaming. I have downloaded and reinstalled the Touchpad ELAN driver (version for my O/S Windows 8). I have gone through Mouse Properities setting and ELAN Smart-Pad settings. I have disabled Tapping, but does not make a difference. I have set Sensitivity to max Low and then max High, but does not make a difference. Any ideas on how to solve this particularly annoying Touchpad issue? Help please! Thanks.

A:IdeaPad Touchpad issue with auto-clicking/auto-selecting when moving mouse cursor

Disable TAPPING in the Synaptic control panel. See the screen shot via the Device settings tab and properties. TAPPING is unchecked - a useless feature and a easy way to wreck and operating system and/or loose files. Its far too easy to tap drag and drop a folder or worst without realizing it until its too late. If its a system fie/folder you likely won't boot the next time or you kill an application. I have been diabling this on notebooks for decades. DEADLY feature.

Hello Tristan,

Welcome to the forums.

Been a while since I had a laptop, but I seem to remember there being a setting on what to do with the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately I don't remember where and have no way of finding it.

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

Sorry I can't be of more help. The manual for the laptop ought to have that info in it somewhere.

Hi guys,

New here, so I hope I'm not out of line asking for help, and that I'm asking correctly. I've exhausted my own ideas on this but the problem is driving me IN.SANE.

When using an external (USB) mouse with my ASUS Win7 laptop, the mouse randomly lifts up and re-clicks while clicking or while dragging (despite the button remaining consistently depressed), resulting in selection of the wrong objects, inadvertent double-clicks, and incorrect dragging. From what I can tell, this affects only the left click and not the right.

Laptop touchpad - no problem. Everything works fine with the built-in touchpad.
Another mouse - same problem. These are wired mice, so it's not a battery or connection issue.
Another USB port - same problem in all four. There's no visible issue with the motion of the mouse/cursor, so it seems to be communicating OK via USB.
Safe Mode - no problem, from what I can tell. The wired USB mouse seems to click and drag as normal in Safe Mode.
Mouse Settings - no effect. Adjusting the click/double-click/drag settings doesn't seem to change anything.
System Resources - no effect. Clicking/dragging seems to show the same results in the RAM/CPU monitors whether I'm having the problem (with the mouse) or performing the same actions without the problem (with the trackpad).

What haven't I ruled out? What else could be causing the issue?

The problem came on suddenly after about a year, but I... Read more

Hey mate, and welcome,

Possible problem:
1. Mouse itself is bad. Either the button itself or internally
2. Driver is not at its best

Going to the mouse manufacture website to download the most recent driver for your Windows 7, either 32 or 64 bit. If it doesn't work, try without any driver (so that windows driver takes over).

Hey all,

I just installed Windows 7 earlier today. The install went fine, until right near the end. I had to click 'next' to a question, which I had already done a few times, but this time the tab was not responding. I tried again and again, then finally just hovered over the tab and pressed enter on my keyboard which did the trick.

Now that the OS is up and running, everything is working fine but I just have one problem. My left mouse button is doubling up as a 'back' button. So if I am in a folder and want to double click a new folder, or even if I just left click on empty space, it will take me backwards one folder. A nightmare in internet explorer aswell.

For the time being Ive switched the two buttons around, so I have an action button, but no right click (on the left mouse button now) anymore.

Ive tried installing the original drivers, and in compatibility for Vista, but nothing seems to fix the problem. Anybody have any suggestions? Id be real grateful to hear them

Hi! First of all, as I couldn't find a cause, I didn't know where to post this thread. If I posted somewhere wrong, please, move it to the correct place. Thank you :-)

Today, I was using my laptop normally when, out of the blue, my touchpad started to behave strange. It would not move around the screen by itself, but its functions were all messed up. I tried reinitialization, restoring the system, removing and installing the synaptics driver, removing the driver again and installing no driver. Nothing worked. In safe mode was the same. The "touch click", however, worked a little. The touchpad now can't be used.
It's Win7 Home Premium 64bit. I was using at that moment, SKype, Opera, Gom Player, iTunes, firewall Comodo, antivirus Avira, Yahoo widgets and other system softwares I can't remember.
What can I do???

For quite some time now the cursor on my laptop has been going wild.  It seems as if it is randomly clicking all over the screen.  While its doing this I am unable click on anything. It also creates a circular area in place of the cursor that I am sometimes able to click and drag using the touchscreen, and if I am bale to do this it will go away a go back to working properly for a while.  I also seem to be able to fi it sometimes by moving the screen back and forth.  If all of this fails closing the laptop until it sleeps and then restarting a few times seems to work.  In the time it took me to type this I have had to restart twice.

Troubleshooting a fairly new HP laptop. Had been infected with a virus. Cleaned it all up but was experiencing erratic mouse behavior. The customer claimed the behavior started when he got hit with infection. While the pointer itself moves fine the left and right mouse buttons intermittently act like they are being held down causing the pointer to drag and highlight everything in site. At other times the buttons do nothing at all. At other times the left mouse button triggers a rightclick menu. And at other moments all mouse control is fine. This occurs equally on the touchpad or when using an external USB mouse. I tried disabling the touchpad completely but the problem still occurs when using the external mouse. I tried updating the sypatics touchpad driver but that made no difference either. I finally resorted to wiping and completely reinstalling windows but the problem still persists. For the hell of it I then updated the BIOS firmware but that made no difference either. All keyboard function work fine so I have been having to resort to using the arrow keys and alt tab and such to navigate around. I ran a Passmark Burn in Test and everything passed.
A couple of additional points. I ran the Hirens Boot CD which is similar to the Ultimate Boot CD. I then booted into the Mini Windows XP and the same erratic mouse behavior occured so this is clearly not an operating system issue. Also when I wiped and reloaded Windows I used the HP Recovery partition and ran thei... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron 7778.
It has been having issues from day one, which is extremely frustrating considering the fact that EVERY other brand of laptop I've had has been fine since day one.
Anyways, this week my Dell laptop touchpad has been going crazy.  The cursor will randomly cease allowing me to control it and it will get "stuck" in the upper left part of the screen, jerking back and forth really quickly for a few minutes until it decides to stop and let me regain control.
Obviously this is causing me major problems.
I looked on the Dell website for touchpad drivers for my laptop and found NOTHING!
Please, can some one give me the link to the newest touchpad driver for my laptop?  I need to get this resolved ASAP.

This problem is with my husband's IBM ThinkPad T43. This was a work computer but the company closed down & let him keep his computer (minus all the software disks). This problem I'm experiencing happened because of my stupidity. I was cleaning up the programs loading in the Startup Menu and unchecked several that appeared to be unneeded items. I also removed a file (which is now in the Recycle Bin because our new Kaspersky security program listed it as a keylogger. Now when I reboot, the keyboard & touchpad or mouse won't work when I reach the Control Alt Delete area to move forward into Windows. If I could get in, and use the keyboard, I would just put everything back the way it was, but I've spent days looking on the internet for a way to fix this and have been totally unsuccessful in finding anything that addresses my specific problem.

Please help!

Hi,It appears I somehow deactivated my touchpad or something along those lines as my mouse pointer/cursor has completely disappeared? It was working fine yesterday, and I think the only thing that might have triggered this is that I accidentally pressed some keys (unsure of which ones, so I don't even know how to reverse it). I've tried restarting, as well as looked through some of the mouse/touchpad settings to no avail. If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it (I'm currently relying on my fingers and the touchscreen which isn't as convenient)

I have tried both USB and Bluetooth mice, and neither one allows the proper action: the touchpad should be enabled without a mouse, and the touchpad should be disabled with a mouse.  That's how it works on other systems.  It just doesn't work at all on this system.
I suspect there is some interaction between the touchpad and the touchscreen that is interfering with this setting.  But I have another laptop with a touchpad and a touchscreen, and the mouse detection works there (it's not a DELL).
Yes, I have toyed with the idea of deleting the DELL touchpad control application and installing a "stock" Synaptics touchpad driver.  But I don't want the DELL  "update" app to overwrite it with the DELL touchpad control app every time it sees "the wrong driver" loaded.  And I don't want to take the chance that the touchpad driver and the touchscreen driver are somehow linked together, thus disabling one when I disable the other.
Any ideas on how to get the "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" action working would be welcome.

Hi All; thanks in advance for your help.

I just performed a clean install of Windows 7 on my wife's HP Pavilion dv5140us. (For the record, I'd previously done this operation on an Acer Extensa with none of the issues mentioned below).

My Synaptics touchpad is causing me problems. The issues are twofold. (I know there are countless threads on similar issues, but I've been unable to find one which discusses my precise problem, so forgive me.)

1) If I don't install proper touchpad drivers (ie, I allow Windows to operate the touchpad using standard HID-compliant mouse drivers), the touchpad actually works perfectly. Movement is smooth; scrolling works; buttons function properly, etc.

2) If I install proper drivers for the touchpad, it's unusable. The pointer wildly skips, leaps, and jumps all over the place, no matter how I adjust the settings for sensitivity, speed, palm-protection, etc. It's a crazy mess.

So WHY, you ask, don't I just stick with the MS mouse drivers? Answer: I need to be able to disable the touchpad's "tapping" features. My wife can't stand tapping-enabled touchpads. Somehow, the MS mouse driver provides for tapping functionality... but no obvious way to disable it.

The solution I'm looking for, then, is either:
- A way to make a Synaptics driver work, thus giving me the ability to disable the tapping feature
- OR, a way to disable the tapping feature while using the standard mouse driver, which already does work

Any ideas?

After a long battle with the Zeroaccess and Norton Power Erase, my malware is gone, but sometime in one of the last scans, my computer froze up, and I was forced to do a hard reset. When I got it back on, my touchpad was screwy. It acts like it is on permanant scroll lock, because when I slide my fingers around, all it does is move the highlights up and down. I had already tried using Windows repair all in one, and it had fixed the touchpad briefly, but after putting my laptop to sleep, it is back to the way it was. Prior to that, I had created a second user account to see if it were a hardware, or other issue, and my touchpad works normally in the other user. It also works normally in the login screen. Here is a link to the history.

hi kimo_land,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Can you try to:
1. Make sure you use the original 65W 20V/3.25A or 90W 20V4.5A AC adapter that came with the unit.
2. Plug the AC adapter in another wall outlet in your house (preferrably another side of the house) - if this works, the original wall outlet that you used before when you got the issue may not be properly grounded.
3. Perform a power drain by:a turning the PC OFF. Remove the battery & AC adapter then hold the power button for 30secs. When done, reinsert the AC adapter and battery then boot into the BIOS by pressing F2. When inside the BIOS, press F9 to reset default settings and press F10 to save and exit.
4. Update the Touchpad Driver below:

Hello, I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad 310-151SK (non-touchscreen).  Other than an extremely awkward placement of the up arrow key and Shift key, I like it.  But there are two reoccuring problems which I can't solve, which may or may not be related. 1) Periodocally, the pointer gets a mind of its own...  it moves erratically, opens and closes windows (as if the buttons left/right buttons are being clicked), jumps around, barely (if at all) responses to motions on the touchpad.  But if I wait 15 to 60 seconds, everything returns to normal.  It's strange.  Waiting for a bit is the only solution.  This happens about once every two hours of usage, not enough to cause real problems, but enough to be annoying.  No apparent  correlation with system utilization, time since boot, etc. 2) Also periodically, the computer hangs.  I can move the mouse cursor, but that's it.  Clicking doesn't get a menu, even on the desktop. In fact, everything with the computer, except the cursor, 'pauses'/freezes for 20-30 seconds. Then it returns to normal.  No correlation with the event above either. I have tried updating drivers.  I have watched for some event that proceeds the two events.  Frustratingly, the latest driver, from Lenovo website, for the ELAN touchpad causes Win10 to bluescreen, so I have rolled back to previous driver (related/separate issue? why is that driver even posted on the Lenovo official webs... A:Touchpad not working on ideapad 300. How do I fix ...

Hi there, Tom ?
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.
Just found the same problem with my Ideapad 500. Touch pad completely non responsive.
Under start menu, settings, devices, mouse & touchpad, additional mouse options, elan tab. The elan touchpad settings were completely grayed out and unavailable.
So from there I went to the window search in the task bar and typed in "computer management? and opened the computer management desktop app. Under device manager selected mice and other pointing devices and then elan input device. In the elan properties window that opened I selected uninstall to uninstall the driver and in the next box that opened warning that the driver was about to be uninstalled l checked the delete driver and then OK.
Then restarted windows. In the process of restarting windows detected the elan touchpad as a new device and installed the driver in time for the login screen. So my elan touch pad is now working again.
I am assuming that the driver had been corrupted in the upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10

I just bought this laptop and I can't seem to enable touchpad scrolling? The touchpad itself is working, but there's no way to scroll. Everything I've found online says it was a problem with Windows 10, and you have to enable that setting under Mouse Properties in the ELAN tab, but when I go there, there's no device listed. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
