Q: RSAT installation on Windows 7 failed with installer encountered an error 0x80246002

Hi i have installed Windows 7 64Bit  Enterprise edition. installation went smooth without any errors. i have downloaded RSAT  64bit from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=7d2f6ad7-656b-4313-a005-4e344e43997d#filelist when i run the installation i get"Installer encountered an error 0x80246002"Event Viewer shows following errorWindows update "Update for Windows (KB958830)" could not be installed because of error 2149867522 "" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\User1\Desktop\amd64fre_GRMRSATX_MSU.msu"        ")i have gone through some threads and looks like nothing much is out there with specific error code.the closest one i could find washttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/800b8038-0a86-4643-8616-21e8e50ea9ac however i can't find the key mentioned in #7 of Step 2 by Judi collins. Obviously because RSAT never got installed.i am clue less here and any help will be really helpful. Also i have tried repairing windows 7 installation using repair option.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This Windows Installer error is quite common. It is usually trying to install something/program already on your system such as Office etc.

In your case it is trying to install "Scan". What on earth is that? Do you know what it is?

The way to fix the error is to run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
Read the instructions here before using it. There is a download link too
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301

When you run this you wll be presented with a list of everything installed by Windows Installer, and the solution is to remove ONLY the entry for whatever is in the error message.

Have a look at all the entries and see if you can associate any of them with this "Scan". Do not remove anything else as that application will not then work, so do not remove anything you are not sure about.

You could also look for an entry which does not make sense such as random letters or numbers and try removing that.

It is all caused by a corrupted install/uninstall by Windows Installer. Suspect the last thing you installed/uninstalled

Hi emmett82,

Please let us know what is the error you received while trying to install the driver update for the system.

First of all manually remove the drivers from the system by following the link below:

I'm trying to install some software that I need urgently but every time I try I get a 'windows installer has encountered a problem and needs to close.'

The setup file is legitamate - downloaded from the company website and I know that a colleague of mine has been able to install it without any problems.

I have tried...
1. Typing msiexec /unreg then msiexec /regserver in run.
2. I've installed updates - including version 4.5 of windows installer.
3. I downloaded 'Windows install clean up' but the program I've been trying to install isn't listed so I haven't done anything with this.
4. I tried examining the status of windows installer in services (msconfig, services) but windows installer is not listed!

So I'm at a loss. I have never had a problem installing anything before.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've finally solved the problem preventing me from updating my Dell Inspiron 7537 laptop from Windows 8.1 Home to Windows 10 as described in "Something Happened" What Next?.

Hi folks,

I have a HP Elitebook Folio 9470p.  It came with Windows 8, and I installed it on my corporate domain.  I was trying to do some Windows updates so  I could upgrade it to Windows 8.1, but it fails installing the updates, whether or not I try
to install them one at a time or all of them.  It has about 18 updates it needs from security updates to a .net framework update.  I run Symantec EP, and disabled it, checked for driver updates for things like display and networking and they are
all up to date.
I'm at a loss as to what to do.  It gives this error in the event log for each file, Event ID 20.

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922: Security Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2862152).

This is the example for KB2862152, but it gives the same error for every one.  I've tried to auto fix for Windows update issues and it fixed a couple of the issues, but not all of them, and provides no other help.
I also deleted folders and files from the SoftwareDistribution folder as well, to no avail.  Any ideas what I can do to get whatever updates it needs, so I can fully patch it, and upgrade it to Win 8.1?

Thanks for any help!

Hi, I just bought a Dell XPS 8500 a few months ago and recently wanted to do a clean install of Windows 8.  I have two Windows 8 USB drives.  One is a Windows 8 Pro that I bought and the other is a Windows 8 standard that came from Dell.

I only have one MSATA SSD drive installed in the machine.

When I try to do a clean install, all the steps works fine.  It proceeds fine to the last step where it copies all the files.  Then, it will give me a 10 second count down timer and restart the machine.  After the restart, I get the following error message:

The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.  Windows installation cannot proceed.  To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
?
When I click OK, the computer restarts itself and I get the same error message again.  It's like an infinite boot loop.  I have also tried the following:

Install Windows 8 Pro upgrade USB drive, same results
Install Windows 8 standard Dell USB drive, same results
Install Windows 8 standard Dell DVD ROM drive, same results

I've also tried all of the steps above with a 300gb SATA HDD that I have.  Unfortunately, same results.  I've also completely powered down the system and waited about 20 seconds.  When it starts up, it gives me the same error message again.

Also, the BIOS settings are all set to default.  The BIOS boot mode is set to UE... Read more

A:Dell XPS 8500 Windows 8 UEFI Installation Boot Loop "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error."

Hi funkmasterta,
I will suggest you to check the BIOS settings provided below to see if you have similar settings. If not you may try these settings and then install the operating system.

Go to the BIOS screen by pressing F2 at the Dell logo 4-5 times.
Navigate to ‘Advanced Tab’ and select ‘Onboard Device Configuration’.
Set ‘SATA Mode’ to ‘AHCI’.
Navigate to ‘Boot’ tab and set ‘Secure Boot’ to ‘Enable’ and ‘Load Legacy OPROM’ to ‘Disable’.
Boot Mode should be set to ‘UEFI’.
Save the settings and Exit from the BIOS.

Once the system restarts, Go to the ‘One Time Boot Menu’ by pressing F12 at the Dell logo 6-7 times.
Select the boot device under UEFI to boot.
Keep me posted with the results. I will be glad to assist you further.

I recently got a copy of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007, but so far I haven't had any luck installing it. My first problem is that while my wife needs 2007 for school, I need a special plug in for work that is only compatible with 2000. A co-worker said that the easiest way to do it (at least for Office XP and 2003) is to simply install 07 to a different folder than the default. This way you'd still have both versions. After doing that, when I tried to open Word 2000, the Windows installer would come up, and "finish installing" office 2000. When I tried to open 2007, the same thing happened. So realizing that something had gone wrong, I looked around on the net and found that you're supposed to simply tell the 07 installer to the keep older version of office, and it should go fine. So I uninstalled 07, then opened 2K to see if it still worked, and got the error "This is not a valid Windows install package". Figuring the best thing to do was to uninstall both versions and start over, I tried that, but got that same error when I tried to uninstall it. Next I tried that feat of MS engineering, System Restore, to go back to a point before I tried installing anything, and while it claimed the restore was successful, I still got the invalid install package error. After trying a bunch of different things I finally got 2K working again, but when I tried to install 07 the correct way, at about 50% I get "Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 encountered an error ... NSIS Error Installer verification failed.
This could be the result of an incomplete download, a falling disk, or (possibly) corruption from a virus.

%systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak (as instructed by https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/fix-windows-update-errors) but then was  hit with "Access Denied" in the CMD.

I think it is also having an effect on my internet as it has been terribly slow when trying to use my PC for online gaming.

My specs:
Windows 7 x64
Nvidia Asus Geforce 970 OC
Intel i7 860 2.8 ghz
14gb DDR3 Ram

I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.

When attempting to install an MS Office update I get the following message:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed."

I am not running in safe mode so I attempted o reinstall my Windows XP Home Edition as a way of correcting the installer problem. However, after starting the re-installation from the XP disk in my CD drive, as part of the process the computer is then shut down and re-started. When re-starting I get a blue screen saying the following"

"Windows XP Home Edition setup cannot find a CD-ROM device."

I have tried this on both of my CD/DVD devices, which otherwise work perfectly, with the same result. Simply put, I cannot get into the setup program.

Anyone have any ideas of how to clean-up this re-installation problem?

Trying to install on an Emachines laptop. I get the following error:

Specs: 1.6ghz AMD Athlon XP-M, 512mb RAM, Integrated Graphics Card.

Also, I know for a FACT that the DVD works and is perfectly fine. I've used it on other machines before.

A:Installation Failed - Error 0x08007000D

Check your disc - seems that it is not able to read it correctly - might want to burn at a lower speed and see if it helps.

Other causes of this are also Overclocking (I doubt that on an eMachine) and faulty hardware....

I've made several attempts at trying to install IE11 without success. I tried attaching the CBS.zip file as per instructions I read in an earlier thread, however, I have had not success and found out that the max file size is 8MB - my zip file is 153MB. Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,
Steve

I have tried installing Win7 in Virtual PC and on my HP 2133 netbook. Both halt when in the copy file stage with this error message:

Quote:
Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070241

I have downloaded the iso's again (from the Microsoft partner site) in case there was a corrupt download, but I get the same error.

The VPC image was using the ISO directly, and I copied the files from the iso to a usb drive for the netbook install.

Anyone else see this? Hopefully there's a solution!

For the last 36 hours, running rKill results in the above error message popping up, followed by a brief pause, and then two more iterations of the same message. The program then goes into rKill and indicates that there are no problems with my computer.
I have run rKill as a .com, a .exe, and a .scr, without making any difference,
This seems suspicious to me - if I were a smart hacker, I would write my code to disable rKill whenever it was run. Then, MBAM, Spybot S&D, Superantispyware and the other security programs would miss the masked malware.
Why, yes, I am paranoid. But, as the ssaying goes, that doesn't mean that people aren't out to get me.

A:rKill error: Installation Failed

Since you are having problems with Rkill, it's probably a good idea to follow our malware prepguide. I suggest you have your logs analyzed to be sure you're not dealing with sole form of malware. Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include the link to this topic in your new topic and a description of your computer issues and what you have done to resolve them.If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.Once you have created the new topic, please reply back here with a link to the new topic.

I don't know where this thread goes....
I've been installing a whole lot of my programs back into my computer.
And when I come to anything macromedia related.
like Dreamweaver and flash.

I get the same installition error.

From a WINDOW INSTALLER INSTALLATION WRAPPER.

is not allowing the installation for this product to complete.

now...I've tried searching on this term, and I have no idea what it is. Except it's for the Administrator, and the last time I check...I was the Administrator. Now why would it be blocking the installation?

A:HP printer installation failed, error 2753

Hello and welcome:

We could probably provide better help if we had a wee bit more information...

A few basic questions:
Is this the Win7 Home Premium, 64-bit laptop listed in your forum profile?
What is the full MODEL NUMBER of the HP printer?
How are you trying to connect the computer to the printer -- local (USB), network (wired/Ethernet) or network (wifi)?
Have you had a look at this article >>HERE<< about "fatal errors" (scroll down to see the part about 2753 codes)? (This is a US URL. I hope you are able to see the information from your locale.)

Thank you for the information, if you can please provide it,

MM

I had a windows XP home edition in my computer until I decided to install a XP Professional today and when I start the process I get that error message, I Cleaned the disk and all, tried using my XP home cd instead but still nothing happens.

I seen that I should try regedit.exe but when I put that in I get a message saying "The System Cannot execute the specified program" message.

I wish I could just go back to using my old installation but everytime I restart the compouter it enters the install process.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi All,
I'm really in need of some help. I have been trying to re install autoCad 2013 for 2 days now and not getting anywhere. I have tried every possible solution and each one seem to be putting me in more trouble. I was having some issues with my computer and this cause autocad to be running very slowly. For this reason I uninstalled it, as well as everything on the computer that was associated with Autodesk (suggestion from a forum elsewhere). All the time, once the installation reached "6 remaining out of 13", the error 1:5 2: Failed to install/uninstall the anchor service 3.0 is displayed and whatever was done up to that point is reversed. The program then says "autoCad fail to install". Would you be kind enough to assist?

He is a copy of the log file. This might assist in diagnosing the problem:AutoCAD 2013 Setup.log

A:Installation Error 1:5 2: Failed to ... anchor service 3.0

Hi there .. Have you Downloaded any programs to resolve the error .. If so could you please state which ones ? Also please run a system scan and report back your findings ...

Hello,

Whenever my computer starts up, I receive a window informing me that "Google Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close." I also receive the same message about ViewMgr.exe. Whenever I leave my computer idle for a certain amount of time (I estimate it around 10 minutes, but I haven't actually clocked it) I receive another error message informing me that the Google Installer has encountered a problem.

I am running Google Chrome as my browser and have no trouble browsing the Internet, but attempting to run a scan using HouseCall doesn't ever get past the loading screens. I have tried to run HouseCall in IE as well as Firefox, but not only does the scanner fail to load in those browsers as well, but all Google results are hijacked.

Beyond that, Malewarebytes will not open and I was only able to get HijackThis up and running after a couple of renaming attempts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron

I get an annoying "Google Installer has encountered a problem" everytime I log onto my XP machine. The only noticeable problem is that I can not run any anti Virus software. I initially had Mcafee running when I noticed I could no longer scan my machine. I tried installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware without any success. I couldn't boot up in safe mode as well Since I've never tried booting up in safe mode, I don't know if the problem is related.

Any ideas ?

Hi there.

My problem started Saturday with infection by Spyware Protect 2009. Finally was able to get rid of it (I think). I wasn't able to use malwarebytes cause I didn't know about the replacing the .exe file with another name. Anyway, now the pop ups for Spyware Protect 2009 have stopped but I'm getting constant popups that say "Google installer has encountered a problem and has to close." I don't have any idea what it is. AND, I can now access the internet but it is SOOOOOO slow. It is worse than when I had dial-up. It takes 5 or 6 minutes to load yahoo or google. I have tried system restore but it tells me that nothing has changed since that restore point even though I went back two months. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

I am trying to uninstall RSAT tools from my Windows 8.1 client. I'm getting the error linked below on API and Powershell cmdlets component.

I already have restarted the pc, run the dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth and /restorehealth, tried to delete the reg key that cbs.log tells to not be able to delete itself (in this case the error is "cannot find" instead of "cannot delete").

The link is a onedrive folder in which you can find stamps of the errors and the CBS.log.

I have just gotten a new 16gb ipod touch. I was running a far older version of itunes prior to getting this ipod which thus wouldnt recognize the ipod.

So after updating windows xp to SP3 to accomodate to itunes requirements, I attempted downloading/installing itunes 8.

But once I have downloaded the installer and I try attempting to install, once it begins installing I get the error message from...

Windows Installer "Another program is being installed. Please wait until that installation is complete, and then try installing this software again."

Please help me. I have been attempting to fix this for about 2 days now with no luck. THANK YOU
