Preferred Solution: Can I replace X1 Carbon 1600x900 LCD with 1920x1080?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

We have a Dell Vostro 3700 laptop and we would like to replace the screen. It was originally fitted with a 1600x900 screen, but we would like to replace it with a 1920x1080 screen. Would this be possible?

Some links to those screens: 1920x1080 screens and 1600x900 screens.

You also might be interested in how we ended up with a broken monitor:
a few months ago my father did the most stupid thing since he started carrying computers with him to work. It was a monday morning of course, 6:00. By accident he put the laptop (in it's bag) against the weel of his car and then rode of, with the rear wheel straight over his computer.
The computer was curved, the monitor assembly dented and the right side (with the disk reader) had a serious Z-curve, aside from also being quite a bit flatter.
Luckily the motherboard wasn't damaged. I downloaded the service manual, threw the computer open, bended the parts back in shape with some force and gave them some volume again. I removed the monitor and connected the pc to an external screen and now it's running fine again, with all the electronics working (including the DVD player), except the screen, which I didn't even test as the fluid flows freely around inside.
Long story short: Dell computers are well made!

It's working fine now but we would like to use it again as a laptop, so that's why we were looking for a replacement screen.

I have the Inspiron 17R-SE 7720, and it came with the cheaper 1600x900 lcd. I am completely in love with this laptop, but I bought it from best buy online, and they didn't have the 3D LCD version when I ordered and this cheap screen I have is driving me nutts!! LOL anyway from the research I've done, I believe I have the right 40-pin connector for the 3D lcd, but I know that I will need not only the new LCD(3D), but also the Trim Bezel for around the LCD with the IR emitter and possibly a wire to connect it to the motherboard unless that wire is there(I hope). I've also read that the computers that come with the 3D don't have optimus and I believe I do, but I've read that it can be disabled if need be? Any info anyone might have on this would be great!
Thanks in advance!

A:1600x900 LCD to 1920x1080 3D LCD Upgrade-able?

Hi cdurkinz,
You will not be able to upgrade the normal LCD to 3D LCD on Inspiron 17R-SE 7720 as to make the 3D LCD work you will need NVidia 3D compatible system board and LCD bezel which specially comes with IR emitter.
Yes, the 3D Inspiron 17R-SE 7720 does not come with NVidia Optimus technology as the 3D operation needs the NVidia video card all the time.

I'm in need of advice. I have an X1 Carbon 2nd gen with a motherboard that just died last week quite suddenly. I use the laptop for my personal machine and small business and it's been great for me up until this. It's no longer booting and I got a quote from Lenovo service to have the motherboard replaced for ?720 (about $800). It mentions "planar replacement 00UP983". It was purchased in 2015 and is the 20A8 model (i7-4600U(3.3GHz),8GB RAM,256GB Solid State Drive,14in 2560x1440 Touchscreen LCD,Intel HD Graphics,Intel 802.11agn wireless,WWAN,Camera,8c Li-Ion,Win8.1 Pro 64)  In the meantime I just purchased an ASUS ZenBook UX480FD, which is going back to the store to be returned. Hate it. Despite it being quite loaded with nice modern specs, it runs extremely hot, it's heavy, it's thick and bulky feeling and the last straw was that I"m getting blue screen errors and sudden reboots to BIOS even after fresh Windows 10 installs. Reminds me of my old desktop from the late 1990s. It's made me realize I want an X1 Carbon again whether it's having my current one serviced or picking up the new 7th gen or last year's 6th gen. My question is would it be worth having the motherboard replaced by official Lenovo service for the price quote I received? I would plan on still using my X1 Carbon 2nd gen as my go-to machine for at least another 2 years and I assume it would still work for much longer than that. Thanks for any advice.

The adaptive keyboard on my 2014 X1 Carbon appears to be failing. It regularly registers phantom button presses near the right end that trigger (e.g.) the settings or keyboard backlight depending on which strip is active. When it launches the settings window, it happens frequently enough to interfere with use. I found many suggestions to update the bios, e.g.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-20A7-adaptive-keyboard-phantom-butt...I have installed all updates from Lenovo's System Update (the machine is running Windows 10), so the bios should be up to date. Are there any other software fixes I should try? If it is a hardware issue, is itsomething I can do myself? Based on my current usage I could survive with the strip entirely disabled, but I don't see a consumer-facing way to do that. Thanks.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1130-Z31 (old one, but still works well).

Now i have attached a second monitor with a native resolution of 1600x900 pixels.

I have set the resolution of the second monitor to 1600x900, this is accepted.

However, the image on the second monitor looks ugly, and the external monitor?s OSD says it gets 1440x900 pixel signals from the laptop.

It seems that the Toshiba sends an image with a lower resolution than set.

I have installed the latest graphics driver - no change.

Or could this be a problem with a poor quality VGA cable or so?

Any ideas?

A:Satellite 1130-Z31: Cannot get 1600x900 on second monitor

Unfortunately I was not able to find info which resolutions are supported for external displays but if you cannot get 1600x900 pixels that mean that this resolution is not supported by graphic card.

Which video port do you use? VGA 15 pin port maybe?

Hey all,
I just got a new external monitor for my laptop and I'm having trouble making it display its native 1600x900 resolution. Some more details on my components are below. I tried about everything I could find to fix the issue. No driver updates worked from Toshiba or Intel, couldn't find any bios updates, I went through the troubleshooting guide on Intel's website, I checked the EDID for the monitor and that looks fine (the native resolution is listed in it). I tried using the steps in this thread to no avail. When I loaded the EDID in pheonix the correct resolution and frequency showed up. So from what I have read, the only option I have left at this point is to try to edit the .inf file for my video driver. I found what I believe is the correct driver .inf file based on what I've seen in a couple of other forums. My .inf never lists 1600x900 but there are other higher resolutions so I think the card is fully capable of displaying 1600x900. Hence, I believe that the problem is there. However, I am new to this so please let me know if my logic is flawed. I need help figuring out what exactly to edit in the .inf since I haven't found an example exactly like mine. I think I know how to update the driver after the .inf is edited, I just don't know what to edit. The entire .inf file is attached. From what I have read, I should just be able to type in the new resolution somewhere and make a couple of small changes but naturally, I could be wrong.... Read more

A:Help editing a .inf to force 1600x900 resolution

Nevermind, I worked out my issue using this method. It looks like Toshiba actually restricted the use of 1600x900 in the bios, so I'm technically running 1598x600, but that's close enough for me.

Hi all,I'm trying to help a friend acquire a T450s i5 5300u w/ 1080p screen resolution like mine, however I am a bit confused by conflicting information online. My unit has a 1080p display (windows automatically defaults to this display setting); however when I checked the lenovo specs page, they don't even show 1080p as an option ( https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/t-series/t450/ )Until now, based on reviews years ago, I was always under the impression the 5200u came with the 1600x900 screen, and the 5300u/5600u came with the 1080p screen. But after seeing the lenovo specs page, and nearly every auction listing online stating the 1600x900 resolution for the 5300u model.... was I wrong?Anyone have a better idea on this? Thanks!

Hello all,

I have been considering upgrading the LCD panel on HP EliteBook 8470p. When I bought it, it said that it came with a 1600x900 resolution, but after it came in it had a 1366x768 resolution.
I've been looking at LCD panels on eBay, like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/222405827922?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
and in the description, it says: "If you are wanting to go from an HD (1366x768) display to an HD+ (1600x900) display - this will not work." Oddly enough, that's actually what I'm trying to do.
I've also asked elsewhere about upgrading my screen's resolution and I was told that replacing the LCD panel was the only thing I can do to get the higher resolution.

I just want to make sure I get everything right, if there's anything else I need to do, and that I don't end up wasting my money on a new screen.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Everyone,

This is a problem I recently noticed with my Lenovo Thinkpad L530 after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. After a couple weeks, the 1600x900 resolution (which is the native resolution of the screen) stopped working properly, as the screen garbles and displays incorrect colours and lines across the screen. As a temporary fix, I removed all of the drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller and for a brief time, the resolution was working. Trying different drivers didn't help as the problem appeared again. I ended up using the 1440x900 resolution and that worked for the most part. However, connecting the laptop to an external monitor works fine.

After another couple weeks, that lower resolution also was acting up so I decided to downgrade to 8.1 since I never saw that problem there. I did a clean install on the machine and immediately saw the problem again. I installed the 8.1 Intel HD 4000 driver from the Lenovo Support Page and the Lenovo Monitor file and this combination partly solved the problem; the 1600x900 resolution still garbles but the 1440x900 resolution appears to be working so far.

Given that I am using a different OS, I am not sure if it is strictly software related or if there is something wrong with the hardware itself. Using custom resolutions above 1440x900 also failed to resolve the problem. What is odd is that the Lenovo startup screen prior to loading the OS and the Windows UAC prompt screen aren't garbled.

Okay, so my background is only one color (that's how I like it), and I wanna know what is faster, if I make a 1x1px image and set it as background or a 1920x1080 image? What uses less CPU power?

A:1x1 or 1920x1080 background?

You shouldn't notice any difference in performance using either one.

Hi all,

The laptop in question is a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334. A few weeks ago, it got dropped right on its corner with the power plug still in it; the little metal plug of the AC adapter is now slightly crooked, and the power jack has a little chip off the plastic part of it.

Anyway, after this mishap, it worked fine for another 3, 4 weeks, and then suddenly this week, it's refusing to power up. Its battery has been shot for a while (can't hold a charge), and I've been using it with the battery out. Why the sudden refusal to boot?

I took the whole thing apart---minus the little chip, the power jack looks totally fine and cosmetically sound. Put the whole thing back together, taking care to check that plugs were snug---still no power.

Stuck in the crappy battery; booted just fine (and then shut itself down after like 2 minutes).

How likely is it that it's the power jack which is broken? And why did it take this long to crap out, if it IS broken?

A new one of those silly jacks costs over $20 on eBay, so I want to make sure that it's the jack before I just up and buy one. Of course, if it's the AC adapter that's broken, that would cost even more! Bah.

A:Replace the power jack or replace the adapter?

AND/OR inside the case the the jack is soldered directly to the motherboard. Is also possible that
1) It's already cracked
2) If not yet, it's gonna crack

So look to see what connection looks like between power jack and motherboard, If you feel u wanna/can re-solder yourself or the typically price to redo the whole power thing seems to run $125 parts/labor/warranty if you take it somewhere. So how much is it all worth to you?

So this one is a real puzzler.  We have a dozen or so X1 Carbon Gen6 (and a couple of Gen5 machines) that for some reason do not have the "sleep" option in the start menu.  I went through all the normal troubleshooting for such a situation (checked Control Panel for the tick box that allows it, checked group policy as well). We also updated the BIOS to the latest and greatest (regardless that there wasn't any relesase notes that mention Modern Standby or Sleep).  We also reset to factory defaults (much to our techs' chagrin as they had to do bitlocker recovery) - but same result. I checked that "Connected Standby" was also still enabled in Registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power "CSEnabled") However, everytime we run powercfg /a - we get this:    Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)        The system firmware does not support this standby state. And "Sleep" isn't even an option in the control panel settings area and GPO for Show sleep in the power options menu  has no effect. The tougher factor is that these machines had the setting previously before being re-built with same OS via SCCM (Win 10 1803) - and the hardware didn't change. Anyone else seen their S0 sleep states become unavailable even with updated BIOS/drivers?

I recently reformatted the hard drive of my Toshiba Satellite P505-S8980. It's an old laptop and was born with Windows 7. After reformatting, I upgraded the OS to Windows 10.

Now the maximum resolution I can choose is 1680x945. I really need to have the resolution be 1920x1080 once again. The reason is that this laptop is utilized to essentially convert my TV into a smart TV. I use an HDMI cable to connect to the TV. When I do this (it was fine before reformatting) the picture does not fill up the TV screen.

I've attempted to update the drivers in the device manager, however, I got a message that the best drivers are already installed.

How can I remedy this to have 1920x1080 again? Thanks!

I am using an ASUS monitor model ML228, ATI Radeon 3300 Graphics, and Windows 7 32-bit. I have used this monitor before at the correct resolution of 1920x1080, but now it is not available to select from the screen resolution manager.

I read through a couple of other threads that said to uninstall and reinstall the driver from device manager for both my graphics card and the monitor and it says both are up to date and nothing changed.

I read through another thread of someone having the same problem: Cannot select 1920x1080 resolution anymore!
But I could not find the same option in the AMD Engine Control Center.

Here is a screen shot of the screen resolution manager:
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

A:Cannot Select 1920x1080 Resolution

I changed the maximum resolution in this picture to 1920x1080, but nothing changes. The desktop properties here, and the screen resolution manager don't show it still.

I have a Radeon HD 4350 based display card,
Dual boot PC with Win XP & Win 7 64 bit connected
with a VGA cable to the monitor.
I use a resolution of 1920x1080 for both OS.

Yesterday, I booted up Windows 7 and I noticed that the left
side of the desktop is missing (the part with the start button and
the pop up menu), when I changed the resolution to 1360x768, it
came back again, I opened an application and resized it on the entire
desktop, then changed the resolution back to 1920x1080 and saw that
the left part of the window is "missing" / cut off

I tried to install the latest catalyst control center / drivers, but that
did not help either.

I rebooted to XP, there its fine in 1920x1080, I also tried to hook
another PC to the monitor and it looked fine in 1920x1080.

I have also, hooked up the PC running Win 7 to another monitor and in it
I can see the desktop fine in 1920x1080.

I would appreciate any thoughts about this scenario, as I am very confused,
since everything used to work fine.

A:Desktop is cut in 1920x1080 resolution

Use a dvi cable, not a vga cable.

I have the 3840x2160 display.  Rather than change the resolution in Windows 10 display settings, I want to configure the hardware panel to treat every 2x2 pixels as 1x1, effectively halving the resolution down to 1920x1080, so that Windows thinks the panel itself has 1920x1080 resolution.  This used to be possible with previous Thinkpads.  Is there a way to do this (BIOS, othersise) on the P50?
