T470 Only Lenovo logo shown after hibernate, a hard power button reset necessary

Q: T470 Only Lenovo logo shown after hibernate, a hard power button reset necessary

I've spent hours researching this annoying feature. If I leave the machine in sleep/hibernate state for more than about an hour and then open the lid, only the Lenovo logo is shown. CAD combo restarts but again only the logo is shown. I need to press the power button once, wait a few seconds then press the power button again. Then the laptop starts normally. The attached file shows my power settings. I appreciate any assistance. I have this problem whether I have my Wacom Pro S tablet attached or not. The laptop is brand new.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Two ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 TabletPCs will successfully boot into Windows 10 just fine from a hard poweroff.  But once in windows, if i choose Restart, it will hang at the "LENOVO" BIOS  level boot up logo with "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter".   Stuck at Lenovo BOOT BIOS initialization screen, right before handoff to the Operating System. "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" At this point, pressing ENTER does not work.CTRL-ALT+DEL causes the screen to change shade for a moment, but effectively does nothing.Changing the UEFI settings to diagnostics results in black screen.Holding the power switch to force a poweroff, waiting a few moments, and then powering on results in a successful windows startup.  DevMGMT.msc does NOT see bluetooth and there is "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" entry under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".  I have run all automatic updates via "Lenovo Vantage" and the manual TPM update.   I can boot into the firmware setup and have had it revert to factory defaults and reverted to factory defaults for all security settings.   I even tried the Win10 repair startup problems, but it says it cannot fix this.

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen2 does not Restart, requires hard power off. Stuck at Lenovo boot logo.

It looks to me like you have a faulty hardware issue or a serious driver issue. Try the Lenovo recovery to put the device back to the factory windows install. If that fails, I would think you have a hardware issue.

Hi, I am having a problem with booting up my computer. Everytime I turn the computer on, the HDD light comes on but the power light doesn't. When I press the reset button, everything starts working and the computer boots up. I think the problem might be the wires that get plugged into the motherboard. I don't know how to correctly install them and the manual that came with the motherboard doesn't help at all. I have a GA-7IXE4 motherboard with 1000 MHZ AMD and 256 MB RAM. If anybody could assist me with this problem, please do so. If anybody knows how the wires are suppose to be plugged into the motherboard correctly, please let me know because I think that might be the main problem. Thanks.

A:Reset button acts as power button

It shows the proper connections on page 15 of the manual.

Neither the power on or reset button need any polarity concerns when connecting, they are both use open/closed type switches.

The reset connector is label RE, THE power connector is labeled PW.

OK I installed SP 2, all the required security patches (before and after) and now I am having problems with hibernate (and an annoyance with standby.)

When I hit the power button, instead of invoking hibernate (as it always did) it shutsdown.

I have reset the power options, and it seems to work once or twice, then it tries to shut down again. I can hibernate by using the Start Menu - turn computer off menu - shift/standby = hibernate. But this bites.

Also I have standby set to not invoke the login screen when it comes out of standby, but just resume (invoking the login interupts some of my music software.) This also does not seem to be impacted by the settings I have in power options.

Help.

A:XP SP2 - hitting power button causes shutdown not hibernate

Two things you have to do.

Set your buttons up in the BIOS to function as you want, if said options exist in the BIOS.
Set up your buttons in the "Power" section of the Control panel.

If that doesn't fix it, post some more.

Hi,i have Lenovo ThinkPad T470 (LENOVO 20HD0002MC) and recently has started a strange problem:While booting at first Lenovo logo shows up (where you can get to BIOS by Enter key) and right after screen goes black. When i power down laptop and boot again (sometime few times) intead of the black screen there is a prompt for Bios password, like it should have and booting continues to OS.Enter key for BIOS doesnt work while it slill get stuck on black screen just right before it loads the BIOS (after trying few times with power -off/on it gets to BIOS and i can boot normally)I have BIOS firmware updated to the latest version, so as well drivers for hardware.Im not aware of any change that could potentionally start this issue, maybe after updating bios to some newer version.Otherwise im using Windows 10 with latest updates, but i dont think this could cause the issue as its way before windows loading. Thanks for the help.

When trying to open the laptop with power button, it no longer boots. It just gets stuck on Lenovo logo screen. The only way to get past this is pressing restore button, which opens something called Novo button menu Where I have to select "Normal startup" to start my OS. Hello everyone,  Trying to purchase an extra charger for the Lenovo Thinkpad T470 (which was bought in the US) and would love to know which one I can order locally, from Lenovo India.  These are the chargers are available and I can either buy an USB type C charger or the slimport charger, right?  https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/chargers/Lenovo-45W-AC-...https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/chargers/Lenovo-65W-AC-...https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/chargers/PWR-ADP-BO-USB... This is the one that came with the laptop (USB type C):   Would be great if you could please suggest what would be a good buy for this laptop or if it's better to buy a charger from Lenovo USA.  Thank you for  your time.

A:Recommended power adapter/charger for Lenovo Thinkpad T470

I would buy the USB-C, thinking if or when I replace the laptop, the USB-C charger is more likely to work as a spare.  As far as wattage, the 45W will be lighter, but 65W may charge some devices faster and is more likely to be compatible with any replacement.  (I am not suggesting that you are going to replace the laptop soon, but things happen and situations change.)

Actually it burned out, when I tried to force power it down. I replaced it, but it wouldnt work anyway. Only way I can power my system up is by holding Memory OK button on my motherboard. Everything works OK afterwards. Reset function still works on the button though. Any ideas what to do and what could be the problem? Thanks

A:Power/Reset button

You will have to look at a diagram of what each connector is for. They vary a lot and just because 2 particular connectors on one board are for power or reset doesn't mean that the same ones will be used on a different board. Though the polarity doesn't matter for the switches, you have to make sure it is right for LED's or they won't work.

This problem has been happening for a few months now. When I try to turn on my computer using the power button located on the front of the case, I hear the fan running but my monitor's status light is just blinking; nothing on the screen. At that point I press the hard reset button on the front of the case and then it boots up normally, with the BIOS screen and everything. This happens about 90% of the time; the other 10% it boots up fine. How can I make it so my PC boots up properly when I press the power button?

I know I shut down the PC every night by going to the Start menu and choosing shut down. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi guys:

I just built my first PC from scratch, and everything works great after it?s booted up. My problem is that when I initially boot up using the power button on the case, I get this:

PCI VGA Link Width: 16
IDE Primary Master: None
IDE Primary Slave: Light-On DVDRW SHOW-1633S BSOH
IDE Secondary Master: None
IDE Secondary Slave: None

Detecting IDE Drives?

This is where it stalls. I?ve tried all manners of switching the DVD drive between master and slave, and plugging it into both IDE spots on the board. None of that changed anything. When I hit the reset button, I get this:

PCI VGA Link Width: 16
IDE Primary Master: None
IDE Primary Slave: Light-On DVDRW SHOW-1633S BSOH
IDE Secondary Master: None
IDE Secondary Slave: None

IDE Third Master: ST3250824AS 3.AAD
IDE Fourth Master: None

IDE Fifth Master: None
IDE Sixth Master: None

The computer then goes on to boot normally. I suppose it?s not recognizing the HDD when it boots from the power button. I?ve also tried plugging the SATA HDD data cable into each of the 4 different SATA connections on the board. That doesn?t do it either.

My System is:

You should have a setting in BIOS to give hard drives time to spin up. Look for "HDD delay" or something similar. You can also just disable quick startup, so the HD has time to spin up during the memory test.

I upgraded to an 8350 AMD processor and to do it I had to disconnect my external drive. When I reconnected the drive, nothing happened. I looked for a power button but did not find one. I also looked for a reset button but could not find one. (I did find a sort of slot that I stuck a pen into but I did not feel any mechanism depress or anything like that when I did it.) (Pen = I opened a ball point pen, took out the barrel of the thing and stuck it inside the slot)

I bought this drive so I have no doubt it was on special at Costco or something like that. Does it even have a reset or power button? All I see is a place for a power cord and the USB.

Also, when I held it in my hand and plugged it in at the same time I did not feel anything. No whirring of a motor, no slight pull to the left or right to indicate the motor is doing anything.

It could still be a power cord but that seems like a stretch.

Do you think it is just dead? I can't remember when I bought it so it must be a couple of years old at the least.

And:
Prior to the CPU upgrade it gave me no problem, none whatsoever.

I know it sounds suspicious but I am pretty sure the CPU did not kill it. The 8350 has no history of violence. It had no motive and I can find no evidence of any CPU wrongdoing.
.................................................
I am creating a new image on another drive, just in case.

A:WD - MyBook stopped working, no power or reset button

Can you try to connect it to a different computer? Just to see if it'll spin up.
If all else fails, and it has long passed the warranty, you can try to remove it from the external case. Then install it in a desktop as a second drive, if that's possible. If not you can carefully remove the existing drive from a laptop, insert this "faulty" drive and see if the Bios will recognize it.
Just be very careful. You can, if unlucky, ruin the laptop.

A:How to factory reset lenovo T430 without novo button

There is no novo button.  You enter the BIOS by F1.  F8 gives windows startup options.  Some win8 licensed machines came with win8 and some were downgraded to win7, but all would have been activated.  F11 will restore, but it sounds like somebody installed an incorrect copy of windows, which might have overlaid the restore partition.  In that case, you will need to buy a copy of windows from Lenovo or elsewhere.

I just purchased IdeaCentre K450 from Bestbuy. In addition I also purchased 2 Seagate 3TB Backup Plus USB drives. All three USB drives were plugged in to the K450.When the Windows Updates automatically rebooted the PC, it got stuck on the Lenovo BIOS logo.It will not bypass it until I remove or power down all the USB drives that attached to it. I did check the BIOS and make sure that it's not trying to boot from USB. I made the Local Hard Disk as the number 1 priority when booting. I don't know what is going on. I think Lenovo will have to update the BIOS. SInce it's a newer product, my guess is I will have to wait for a little bit. I called the support line and they have no clue what is going on. They only advise is to post it in the forum and see if anyone else has the same issue. *no comment* I guess this is a weird one because when I tested by plugging in an "EMPTY" 4GB USB jump drive, it will boot just fine.I'm not sure if it's because the Seagate Backup Plus was a 3TB drives or it has "certain" content inside the jump drive. If any fellow K450 users has the same issue, please post it here so the Lenovo "engineer" be able to see that there's an issue out there. Thank you.

Hi iamxcpx, welcome to the forums,

what you have experienced is not uncommon with any type of computer from notebook through to server, regardless of the boot disc being set as item 1 in the list, sometimes they just want to search everything available for boot instructions; depending on the quantity of information on the external discs it can sometimes take a little while.

I would suggest totally excluding the drives, or better all usb devices, from the boot order.  The following picture is of another systems BIOS, but hopefully illustrates what I mean.

Opened up the case housing the motherboard to get at the power to see if I could jimmy it a little bit because I couldn't turn it on. A while ago I accidentally bumped the 1yr old notebook in its case against the desk and since then was having difficulty turn it on needing a little more effort since the time I bought it. About a 3 weeks ago it wouldn't turn on no matter how hard I tried. When I posted a question on how to deal with the first answer was to open the casing to see if I could get at the button easier. I did that, after getting the smallest phillips screwdriver but wasn't able to get the button to work. It is somehow loose and not connecting. I also noticed that unscrewing the housing unit holding the motherboard might make it easier but I have not expertise in this and I don't want to mess things up. I wonder if anyone could get a help with this ,maybe a schematic showing me the parts of the housing unit so that I can unscrew it safely and not messing everything up or any other solution - short of taking it to a specialist. Any help very much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Community! I'm having a problem with repaired power button for my Lenovo Z510.It's about the tape connector that turns on - it was torn in some place. Some local computer service did solder it, but after launching the noteboot it started overheating. Further repairs made short circiut for a moment. The replacement part is not available locally and they said it could be ordered from China (also they said it could be motherboard problem(lol)).Does anyone can tell if it's faulty solder/any other part? The symptoms before dying was flashing power led build-in the button, later it turned off and didn't light after all, then the button died. Thank you in forward. Regards,Yakei

This is my first time posting; i was wondering if anyone would help me with my problem. I have a lenovo 3 2in1 14inch yoga series laptop and i have been very pleased with it up until now. Recently I have not been able to power it on with the power button. I think about 6 months ago, while in it's case I accidently bumped the side of it onto a desk, and every since it became increasingly more difficult to turn it on - I've had to apply more and more pressure to turn the  system on. I also noticed it had been more indented and pliable than originally but I gave no importance to it since I could still turn it on. This brings me to about a week ago when I could no longer to turn it on at all no matter how hard i tried. I wonder, short of short of getting another computer and since I have an an expired warranty, if I can find an easier solution to this problem. All possible solutions appreciated. Thank you!

I.I have an lenovo y50-70 that i like very much. The only problem i have with it, is that if i play forex gta v, or doing other things that makes the computer work hard, the power button starts to flash and it is stopping to charge. It happens all from about 5min to 30min after i have started to play. If i pull the plug and put in in again, it does not flash anymore, and i can play for a while before it starts to do that again. Noticed that the plug i put into the computer to charge it, gets very warm. This problem does not come if i just use the computer for surfing on the internet, watching netflix or similar, only if the computer has to work hard. Is it the charger that can't deliver enough power to charge it or what could my problem be?What does the power button flash mean? Thanks!

I tried to power cycle it, and reset battery by using a paper clip on small button under the laptop but does not power on. It just keeps blinking, and the ac port on the laptop blinks orange as well.

A:lenovo yoga 900 power button is not working!!!!!!!

Is it possible that the display is not working? Can you plug in an external monitor to check to see whether the Yoga 900 is running, even though the laptop screen is blank?
