How can you delete iPhone backup from Windows computer?

Q: How can you delete iPhone backup from Windows computer?

I am not sure it's saved to, so that I could find the folder and delete it. I want to delete it because I need some space in my hard drive and the backup must be close to 32gb which is the capacity of my iphone.

Preferred Solution: How can you delete iPhone backup from Windows computer?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

on an old computer, i set up backup onto a WD portable hdd
and i only backed up 2 times (there are 2 dates to choose from)

but now, i dont have that computer (the mobo's dead) and i was wondering, how can i delete the backup from the portable hdd?

there's 3 things regarding the backup
there's the WindowsImageBackup folder which holds all teh data
there's the actual program that runs the backup (the icon is the restore icon)
and there is a folder with a bunch of letters and numbers

i was wondering if there was an official way to delete it like through windows
or should i just shift delete the 3 items

A:How to delete an old backup from another computer

Hello Joseph,

Yes, you should be able to just delete them like any other file or folder. You may need to open the folder and all subfolders first to allow "Permission" first, before it will let you delete them.

If that's all that's on the HDD, you could also do a quick format to clear the HDD.

Hope this helps,

I have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.0 software. My iPhone was synced with my old computer's iTunes library which i do not have anymore. When i plug my iPhone into my new computer iTunes says "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone "Rob's iPhone". Go to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings." I have transfered all of my contacts and music from my old computer to my new computer. I do not want to restore my iPhone to factory settings because i do not want to lose all of my SMS messages and some other things that are currently saved on my phone and nowhere else. Is there anyway I can create a backup of the phone as it is so that i can restore it from that backup after restoring it to factory settings?

Hi, All,

I've spent hours on the phone with Apple support trying to get to the bottom of this one and I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas.

Basically I can't backup my iphone. When I try to complete the backup it gives me the error message: "iPhone cannot backup because an error occured while reading from or writing to."

Apple support was able to identify that it might be a problem with my user account in Windows. I created a new user account and was able to backup the iPhone with no problem.

The only thing that we could find that they thought may be an issue is a lingering Chromium installation. I completely removed it but still have the error.

If anyone has any ideas as to what I could try to get this working on my main Windows account I would be very appreciative. Thank you in advance!

I recently had to restore my iphone- it froze on me, and had to go through the whole preocedure.....it wouldn't work at home, so I had the Apple Store do it....I wasn't too worried, because I know where the backup file is kept, and I have kept multiple copies of it- always updating it- to make sure I would never have to worry about losing all my contacts, etc.

Well, I was wrong. When I went to restore, iphone would not allow me to access the most recent backup, instead directing my back to last December. I called AppleCare, talke to Apple Store, no help. I was stuck. I've since been told that there is no really reliable way to save the backup; that is, an ironclad way, like you'd save all your data on multiple drives, online, etc.

Can anyone tell me if there indeed IS a secure way to store your iphone backups?

I have an iphone 3Gs and I've had lots of trouble with compatibility with my Windows 7 machine. Lately it's been ok, but I still get periodic error message when I try to sync. This time, the phone froze and had to be completely restored to factory settings. It's happened before, but of course I have backups.....in multiple locations to be safe. This time after having the local genius bar restore the phone for me- wouldn't work when I tried to do it- the phone offered several backup dates to choose from; none of which were current; the most current was from last Dec. Lacking another option, I chose the Dec. backup and it went fine.

But how do I get the phone to back up to the most recent backup, which was a week ago or less?

I had windows 7 keep giving me a blue screen more often than not. I decided to reinstall windows. All went well and I don't get any blue screens. Now most of my 500g drive is 2 files (windows.old and windows.old.000). Now I don't have any room to backup my computer. These 2 files take up about 300g. I went to my local computer store and they this is normal for windows 7 and the files just keep getting bigger as time goes on. They advised me that I should have at least 2T drive to keep running windows 7. So my question is, can I delete the old backup files because I'm only using less than 200g on an ongoing bases. My operating system tells me that I don't have backup setup and I don't have room to set it up. I would have just over 300g free if I could delete these 2 files.

A:How Do I Delete old Windows Backup Files ?

They told you you need a 2TB to run Windows 7? They're after your cash so don't listen to them.

The minimum requirement for Windows 7 is around 20GB, but to allow for your applications you need 100GB or more, depending what you're installing.

As for your problem, you can regain disc space by:

Uninstalling any programs you never use.

Running disk defrag.

Using Disk Cleanup. Just click Start and type Disk Cleanup in the Search field then double-click the program to launch it.

Enable each item that you want cleaned then click OK to run the utility.

As for backups, you need an external drive. If you try and use your internal hard drive and it fails, you've lost everything.

I'm diaging a clients computer and external backup. The USB external backup is toast, so no problem there. Win7 Backup however, is giving me grief.

Initially it was hanging at 57% which was attributed to the external backup. I switched to a USB 16gb flash drive and it will complete 100% EXCEPT for 2 single files:

I don't have the exact address at the moment but this is from memory and I'm 99% sure of it:

It's referring to a folder of photos on the Desktop. Inside is a folder of pictures and a matching ZIP folder.

Now, I've tried moving the folder into Documents, I've transferred the folder onto the flash and deleted the one on the desktop.

Still, when I run Backup, it completes with a RED bar and says the folder was skipped. The path, however, is what you see above. I can't access that exact path- only as far as systemprofile.

I want to be able to either remove that path or allow the folder to be backed up. I want to be able to run a clean Backup with no issues, as I'm sure the client wants it that way.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: It's also weird that the folder name ends with a period (/Folder./folder.)

I've read that Zipped files can cause errors, but I've tried Backup with the folder deleted with no change.

Has the folder perhaps been moved since it was made? And the config folder needs it back in the original location? I don't know... Read more

Also, when you browse to the folder, do you get any prompts stating anything along the lines of "To Continue, you need access - click continue" ?
You should be able to exclude this particular folder if the above steps don't work. I don't use the Windows backup, so I can't say for sure what the process is to do this, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to go to "advanced" settings.

~~~~~~~~~~ Background ~~~~~~~~~~
I recently started helping my father in law get his Samsung NP-Q330-JA03HK laptop back to working order. He had not used it in a couple of years, and when I tried tuning it, I found that it was extremely slow. A Malwarebytes scan, Windows updates, and some other actions failed to do the trick.
So, I used his laptop's Samsung Recovery Solution 4 program to do a complete restore to factory condition. I did this at boot time (pressed F4 until Samsung Recovery Solution launched a special Windows session).
The restoration seems to have done the trick: the laptop is once more responsive. Now I am doing the agony of 4 years of Windows 7 updates... (If you have any special tricks to speed this up, lemme know!)
~~~~~~~~~~ Questions ~~~~~~~~~~

The reason why I am posting is that while doing the restore, I noticed that there were 2 backups on the D: drive (which is actually a special partition used by Samsung Recovery Solution).

I picked the oldest one, guessing that it was the original factory backup, and that seems to be correct.

That said, I would now like to delete the other one, as it is unknown garbage at this point.

Unfortunately, when I run the Samsung Recovery Solution 4 program, I see no option whatsoever to delete an old backup.

A:Samsung Recovery Solution: backup location, delete old backup

Hello up2trix and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not familiar with the Samsung Recovery Solution so I won't be any help with your specific questions. However, one of the Forum experts has prepared a very detailed tutorial on how to do a Clean Reinstall of Windows 7. It even includes instructions on how to obtain a legal copy of Windows 7 with SP1 installation disk.

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Once the clean install is finished, you could make use of the Windows 7 hotfix rollup that was released by Microsoft in 2013. It contains the first 90 or so hotfixes that were released after SP1. That should save you some time doing the updates.

Hope some of this helps.

Hi folks
Looking for some help - not particularly technical though.
I have an Inspiron 660 which was supplied with Windows 8, but I upgraded to 8.1 and then 10, successfully. A problem (caused by me, not Windows 10) caused me to panic and, rather than use the Windows 10 Restore options, I used the Dell Backup and Recovery options (Free version), which took me back to Windows 8. Yuck.
I am now back with a functioning Windows 10, but I have a 125GB Backup folder with lots of DATA_****.inp files of 0.6GB taking up a big chunk of my C drive.
Can anyone please advise me what to do with it?
(Needless to say, I have no intention of using the Dell Backup and Recovery option again to go back to Windows 8! I have a Windows 10 System Image Backup, and Recovery Media, so I should be able to at least get to Windows 10 again without that torture).
Would greatly appreciate help - need the disc space.

I am running Win7/Pro x64. My System Spec is in my Profile.

I do not have iTunes installed on my desktop. I do have an iPhone 5, a hand-me-down from my son.

Yesterday the phone needed to be charged. I attached it to a USB port. I was asked by the phone if I trusted my desktop. I said yes. I was told that there were no new images on the phone to import, a fact I already knew. I've encountered this dialog before. It seems to be part of the procrustean Apple way of computing.

What troubles me is that a process started about the time I plugged in the phone. At a rate of 5-10 files/sec the 'modified' date was changed on over 3,500 jpg files on my data drive. I've not analyzed the order in which they were processed but suspect that it was A-Z on the file names and also on folder names.

Could this behavior result from iTunes running its 'sync' process? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening again?

If we have no Apple OS experts on this forum, does anyone know of an 'Apple forum' that is as respected as sevenforums is in the Windows world?

First suggestions here would be to change the USB port that you are connecting too and the USB cable.

Secondly I would do the following:

1) Click Windows Start/Home button
2) Type "devmgmt.msc" at the search (without quotes) textbox. Or go to device manager from control panel Or Right-Click on My Computer>Properties, Choose "Device Manager" from the left pane..
3) Expand "Universal Serial Bus Controller".
4) While iphone is connected, click the unknown device.
5) Right click the same and click on Update Driver Software
6) Click the second option "Browse my computer for driver software".
7) Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
8) Click on "Have Disk" button.
9) Browse to the the path "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"
10) Select "usbaapl.inf"
11) Now select "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under list of hardware model section.
12) It will add "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under "Universal Serial Bus Controller"
13) Restart your computer.

Hey guys. Just recently I realized that "iPhone" (with an icon but no drive letter) is listed under My Computer (with the usual C: and other drives). The strange thing is: I don't own an iPhone (nor have I ever plugged one in to my computer) and there's nothing plugged into any of my USB ports right now except for my printer. Double-clicking or right-clicking and "exploring" or "opening" the icon does nothing. Additionally, everything in my Device Manager seems to be fine; no yellow exclamation marks, etc. Any ideas what might be going on?

I'm using Vista SP2 by the way. Thanks!!

A:iPhone listed under my computer, but I don't own one.

SOLVED: I had to delete the registry entry for iTunes under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ MyComputer \ NameSpace

Thanks for all your help guys!

First of all, please read this thread:

I have no idea where to put this since i don't know if it's related to my computer hardware, my windows XP, iPhone hardware or something else. Also, my last thread didn't get too much response over in the gadget forums, so i'll try this out.

So since the iPhone i was talking about wouldn't work i had to send it back to be replaced. It took three weeks and i recieved the new one today. It came in the same box as the old one, with the remaining items that i had sent back, but the phone was supposed to be replaced.

So i plugged it in last night and it worked and synced just fine. I then charged it in the wall outlet as i went to bed. I used it all day today and nothing seemed to be wrong with it. But as i plugged it into the computer again just now there was first a small windows pop-up saying it found some new hardware plugged into the computer, but it couldn't be identified. Neither did iTunes seem to find it. So i tried another USB-port and this time the computer didn't say a thing.. just as before.

The difference is that this time i managed to unlock it before i was unable to charge it/sync it, so i can use it for now.. but i can't charge it. And like last time it can't charge in the wall, my computer or any other computer. Doesn't matter what cord i use. So i doubt i recieved two similarily broken iPhone 4s, so maybe there's something wrong on my part? My computer?

Okay here's the situation.

Before I put my backup and windowsimagebackup at my Local Disk D(Secondary disk, Disk Space: 29.8 GB) but then I chose to use an external flash drive instead(Disk Space: 8 GB) because it uses a lot of disk space.

The Backup on the external flash drive was successful but then on my Local Disk D: the backup and windowsimagebackup is still there and using a big amount of disk space to the extend the color of the bar turns red.

How do I remove the backup and windowsimagebackup on D: so that I may be able to free some disk space on D:

A:Delete backup on D:

Before we go ahead,could you post up a screenshot of your disk management?
Just incase you don't accidently wipe the Disk with boot files on it.
*Start>Control Panel>System and Security>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management (bottom left).

Use this guide to upload your screenshot after taking it with the snipping tool.

If everything looks good theres two options depending on the situation.

If you have files on D: you want to keep you can simply go computer>D: (double click) > Select the file you want deleted and click delete. Then go to recycle bin and permanently delete them.

If you have no files you wish to keep on D: and would like it fully cleaned you can format it by Right clicking D: in My Computer Page>Format>Format as NTFS/Quick Format>Start.
Job done.

Hey I recently attempted to upgrade vista to 7 but i failed ]=
I kept on getting a bootmgr message so I just reverted back to Vista Home premium 64-bit and I only have 191 GB free of 580 GB. I believe most of it is in the backup in C drive but I can't delete any of it. Its keep saying "This folder is shared with other people. If you delete this folder, it will no longer be shared. Continue" and when I click continue it says the same thing. Then when I click continue again it says "destination folder access denied. You need permission to perform this action". How do I delete it?

A:how to delete backup?

Your scenario is not quite clear. Could you post a picture of disk management so that we know what is where. Also are you operating as administrator or from a user partition.
And what do you mean by that: " I believe most of it is in the backup in C drive " - are you talking about the shadowstorage? That could be easily fixed. If your C partition is 580GB, then your shadowstorage would be up to 87GB - and that is probably more than you want or need.

ok here it goes i had made a backup of my old laptop and when i bought my new one i restored it but instead of choosing the option where it puts all the files back where they were i chose the one that put them all im one folder (not sure why i chose it) now a few months later i need to free up some space and the old backup is 20 gigs and i need those back do when i try and delete it the window starts not responding and closes shortly.
is there any way to delete this file?

A:Backup delete

Runk disk cleanup in the System tools, choose the drive where the files are on and then select the option to remove old windows files.
