I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I currently have T580 with pre-installed WWAN module (Fibocom L850-GL) and trying to get to work it on Linux. It works perfectly fine on Windows. So far I discovered that Windows driver uses PCIe protocol to communicate with WWAN module, but Linux is supported apparently only through USB protocol, and if PCIe is enabled, the module ignores all USB commands according to its hardware specs document (page 26) - https://www.mev-elektronik.com/files/MEV%20Elektronik%20Service/produkt-downloads/rf-microwave-wirel... Fibocom recommendation is to disable PCIe in BIOS, that is not supported by stock ThinkPad. Thus in Linux the device is only displayed as "Wireless controller: [0d40]: Intel Corporation Device 7360 (rev 01)" through lspci , and nothing on lsusb . Any suggestions how to make it work on Linux? As an alternative I'm considering getting another WWAN module, but it's quite likely it will not work due to whitelists. The only other module that is whitelisted for sure is L830-EB, that does not have global coverage and thus doesn't work in the US or China, even so it was reported that it's Linux-compatible (USB-mode only). Maybe there is a patched BIOS that has whitelists removed? Wondering if there are Linux enthusiasts who are also looking for a way of using WWAN.

I bought X1 Carbon 6th and X280, both with Fibocom L850-GL. WWAN with Linux do not work. I searched and found the reason. The PCI-E must be disabled, so that the card can run with USB. It seems that Lenovo did not offered a solution since July 2017.  I searched but do not find any direct contact to Lenovo to ask the question.  The WWAN is important for me and Windows is no option anymore. Anybody know if there is an other WWAN card wich works with Linux  and X1 Carbon 6th / X280 ?Anybody know if there is a chance that Lenovo solve the problem with a bios update? Many new Lenovo Thinkpads have this Fibocom L850-GL inside and many business user use Linux...

Hi all, I just began ordering T480s devices as the old T470's are gone, and running into an issue on one where every time the computer goes to sleep it simply states "No Connection" in the cellular section.  Prior to going to sleep it works fine, but after waking this happens every time.  A reboot resolves the issue, but this is incredibly aggrvating. I downloaded the drivers that were released for this WWAN from July 23rd and installed them, but even after doing so Windows is showing the installed driver as a generic device and NOT the drivers I installed(In device manager under wireless it does show as the Fibocom L850 though).  I've tried adjusting power settings, removing the card and putting it back in, uninstalling and trying a fresh install of the drivers: nothing seems to work. Has anyone encountered this or know of a potential solution?  Just about at my wits end here.

Hi! I have a new T480 with the factory installed WWAN option. It works on a fresh startup, but when the laptop goes into hibernate mode (not sleep) and then I wake it up, the WWAN stops workding. Windows Device Manager shows it as "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" Why does this factory installed option not work correctly in normal use? I would prefer not to have to disable hibernate or have to restart the laptop every time I want to have working WWAN. Thanks for any advice!

Until yesterday, the Fibocom L850-GL worked perfectly in my T480. After a restart, the device was gone and instead the error message "Detected unrecognized USB driver" appears permanently three times in the system log. The device manager recognizes a USB-Com device instead of the Fibocom. Detected unrecognized USB driver (\Driver\pci).Detected unrecognized USB driver (\Driver\ACPI).Detected unrecognized USB driver (\Driver\UDE). Even after a clean Windows 10 Pro (1803) installation, the error is repeated. The original installation of Windows 10 Pro (1803) immediately detected and installed the Fibocom.BIOS is up to date. For now I deactivated the device. Any hint?

Hello All, New T480 with the Fibocom L850-GL wwan card. Clean install of Windows 10 Pro x64, Redstone 4 (v. 1803). All Windows Updates applied. All Lenovo updates applied through the Vantage app via the Microsoft Store, and manually checked from the support page of the website (BIOS, WWAN, etc. updates). Following the manual, I pulled the external battery, disabled the internal battery, then inserted my T-Mobile USA sim card, then reassembled everything, then rebooted. Manually installed the latest L580-GL drivers from Lenovo. First off, the L850-GL is being shown as a USB device, as opposed to PCIE, with a hardware device instance path of USB\VID_8087&PID_0AC9&MI_00\7&4FA6012&0&0000, and a hardware location of 0000.0000.0000.003.000.000.000.000.000 in the properties dialogue screen in Device Manager. The Driver tab shows the provider is Microsoft with a date of 4/10/2018 and a version of 10.0.17134.1.... I suspect much of that to be a sign that something isn't right from the get-go... Second, every time I close the lid of the machine or leave it running long enough to enduce the proper level of sleep/hibernation, the card simply stops (with a hardware error 43 warning in Device Manager). At that point, my "T-Mobile LTE" network option no longer appears in the Windows 10 notification/network connections sidebar. My only recourse thus far has been to uninstall the L850 in device manager, "Sca... I have a T480 with a Fibocom L850-GL WAN card. Frequently, but all the time, when waking up from sleep, it fails to appear in my Wireless options, and when I look at it in the device manager, under Device status Windows gives the message "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. If I manually disable and re-enable the device it always comes back, but it's pretty annoying to have to do that.  Before I contact Lenovo for repair (the laptop is only a couple of weeks old) I wanted to check the forum for any ideas. Thanks!

Over the last few weeks, I've had at least a half dozen T480s that have severe spikes in latentcy and packet loss when using the Fibocom L850-GL, making them pretty much useless for our users who need them for remote desktop. The usual "working" baseline for these machines on our network is around 40-70ms pings. Show below are the occasional spikes past 3 seconds and timeouts along with the current firmware.    The work around I was using to fix this problem was uninstalling the drivers/firmware from Device Manager, and letting Windows reinstall them, but that doesn't seem to be working anymore.  Any help would be appreciated.

We have several T480 and T580 i5 laptops and have had nothing but headaches with these.  They blue screen and randomly shut off for no apparent reason.  While trying to resolve one of these, I came across a forum about the i7 version of these running CPU at full clock, so I started looking into this as a possibility for our issues.  So far, the same holds true for the i5 version.  These computers are supposed to have a max performance of 1.7 and 1.6 GHz with a max turbo performance of 3.4 GHz.  Every computer I have looked at so far has been running at 3.45 GHz.  The only changes we made to the power/cpu settings are OS settings that all computers get, but ONLY the T480's and T580's are in overclocking speeds (barely, but it's still overclocking).  We have had these computers for about 6 months and this is starting to cause hardware failures due to overheating.  Now that we know we have faulty firmware on these computers, we may be able to prevent future hardware failures, but this is something that your team needs to address.  This could actually be seen as scandalous practice since the forum discussing the issue with the i7 versions is about a year old and 4 BIOS versions ago.  Supposedly, this issue was fixed in a BIOS update to version 1.15, but our computers are on 1.18 and 1.19 (which the Lenovo Updater [tvsu.exe] did not find, I had to manually download).  This needs to be fixed because this is causing hardwar... Hello, There's a bug in the ACPI tables that affects all of the machines listed in the title. The bug causes heavy CPU usage on one thread due to frequent ACPI interrupts. The symptoms are a slow system, and high CPU temperatures (idles around 65 degrees Celsius). Some operating systems may mitigate the symptoms, but the bug is present regardless. The following circumstances trigger it:-powering on the laptop-waking from suspend (and possibly hibernate - untested) The following actions prevent it:-reboot the laptop (temporary fix)-disable thunderbolt in the UEFI settings (permanent fix - with latest UEFI updates) The official UEFI update changelogs for all of these machines make explicit mention of this issue: "-(Fix) Fix an issue where system may become hot by system interrupts when Thundrebolt is disabled in ThinkPad Setup - Security - I/O Port Access." Unfortunately, the bug was not actually fixed. The solution that was implemented is only a bandage for the "disabled" thunderbolt state. This patch should resolve the problem. This patch would then remove the bandage of the official fix, since it should no longer be necessary. I will leave that for your engineers to decide. These patches were made for the T480s, but should apply equally to all affected machines.

Hi  I'm thinking to get T580 with i5-8250U and then maybe upgrade CPU later if I need it and it gets cheaper. Is it possible?I didn't find CPU on the user replacable units list in the manual but I also read that it is possible for some older Txxx. Also - what is your opinion about FHD IPS display in T580? Did it improve compared to previous models (colors, brigtness etc)?  And the last piece - if I order it without WWAN - can I then add the card later or I will still be missing antennas or something else? I would expect to have no issues but I read different opinions on the net. Thanks a lot in advance  Hermez

Hello, I've owned a T480 for a while now, and would like to add a WWAN card to it. I've considered USB modules but can't find any that will accomodate my providor so I am investigating the possibility of adding an internal one. I see that the T480 has the slot for one inside, and a place for the sim card behind the battery, but I don't see any antenna wires, and so I'm wondering if this is actually possible and if anyone knows how to do it, or has done it. There seems to be very little information online about adding mobile broadband cards in general. I had quite a time tracking down the Sierra Wireless AirPrime module that is supposed to fit my thinkpad module. Any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This describes my experience with a T580 (20L9CTO1WW) which has the above Fibocom WWAN adaptor. Everything was fine on Win 10 1809. But after the Win system updater prompted me to update to version 1903 the adaptor is no longer functional. In Device Manager it is no longer listed under Network Adaptors but now appears under System Devices as "Intel XMM7360-P'. That is the internal LTE chipset which suggests the card is still functional but not being correctly recognised by Windows. Yesterday, I spent around 2 hours with escalated Lenovo Tech Support trying to resolve this to no avail. We tried the following:updating to the latest firmware/driver package (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/nz3wj21w.exe)uninstalling and reinstalling all driversforcing install of Lenovo driversrolling back to Win 10 1809rolling back to previous firmware/driversphysically removing and reinstalling the card So it seems there is a compatibility issue that will have to be resolved. Hopefully the next iteration of drivers/Windows updates can fix this. In the meantime, I would suggest anyone with a similar hardware setup not accept the 1903 May Update if offered. As Tech Support's final suggestion was to do a completely fresh install of (1809) Win 10 - somewhat undesirable for a lone driver incompatiblity. Alternatively, if anyone has successfully updated, please let me know and consider sharing your driver configuration.  This bug deserves more attention than it is currently receiving. It should be pinned in every forum with an affected machine, so that the owners of those machines are aware that it exists. It is currently squirreled away in the T series forum, under the outdated title "T480s - ACPI bug". I have asked that the thread title be updated and received no response. I have to presume that Lenovo did not see my request (in which case, they'll see it now). It would also be nice to get some kind of status update. For example, I am still waiting for confirmation that the patches from the newer thread were sent to engineering (see this message).

I've shortlisted the T580 for a purchase, just wanted to ask what Lenovo's attitude to linux installs is. ThinkPads are well supported in Linux but how does that reflect in warranty provision, service etc? (obviosuly, service would not be expected for a custom installed OS like Linux).

I just wonder whether any issues may receive a "Oh, you installed Linux... tut tut... that is the problem." regardless of what issue one might have.

I've read that the fingerprint reader does not work in Linux. Is this still true ? If so, does that affect the NFC ? I ask because I noticed you can't select NFC without the fingerprint reader when configuring the system. I suspect that's because the NFC is provided by the fingerprint reader?

Hi, Goal : plug a T580 by one port to a multiple screen setup. I read that your nvidia geforce mx150 embedded T580 does support their optimus software, which smartly switch between the intel iGPU and the nvidia dGPU. What is unveiled nowhere is whether the mx150 can handle multiple monitors, but I guess so, since current intel iGPU can handle up to 2 additional monitors. Now what happens on linux distributions with DisplayLink devices (pluggable USB adapters to some video output, relying on an integrated cheap external GPU), is that their driver is such that the display can only be done through a non-nvidia GPU. As currently using the open-source Nouveau driver instead of the proprietary one leads to a crazy unstability with the DisplayLink devices. You gys have done a pretty good guide about optimus GPUs and multiple screens setups here : https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht037605 . However it's out of date and doesn't speak about OS, I'm sure it'd be worth it to update it for your newest thinkpads. My final questions then are :- Do your docking stations use any driver / thirdparty hardware ?-- if yes,--- Are those drivers DisplayLink branded?---- if no,----- Are they linux compatible? ( https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/accessories-and-monitors/top-tech/Thunderbolt-Dock-UK/p/40AC0135UK here is written 'OS independant', it'd be great if you could quickly give it a try with e.g an ubuntu bootable and any 2 other monitors ) In fact I woul... Hi All,Since a few days I am using T480 with Kubuntu 18.04.When I use the laptop for web browsing and text edition (light use which should not consume too much resources), the CPU's temperature is always around 50 deg C, with the fan speed of around 3000 RPM (the average CPU usage is 6%). The MX150 GPU is disabled with NVIDIA X Server Settings. If the GPU is on, the temperature and fans speed is more or less the same. Has anyone experienced similar CPU's temperatures regardless if it is windows or linux? Are such temperatures normal? The housing is pretty warm all the time. The ambient temperature is around 24 deg C. Best regards,Lendzian

I haven't yet tested T580 but I hope the keyboard feels better. And, before trying, I wanted to ensure that Daisy Chaining is really supported. Thanks in advance.

My T480 running manjaro linux produces a beep code on shutdown - I think its the beep code to do with the system board. However, this problem doesn't occur on Windows. Any idea how to go about fixing or whether there is actually something wrong with the system board?

Hey guys, can anybody tell me if it's possible and even worth it, to use a eGPU with the new T480 (i7-8550u processor) business notebook with an integrated MX150?I read on some pages, that the T480 Thunderbolt 3 port only offers 2 lanes, which mostlikely isn't enough to handle eGPU well. Also some others meant that they even couldn't run the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 graphic dock which I was a bit wondering about.  Thanks in advanced! CHEERS!

I have a T470P laptop. I wanted to upgrade it with a WWAN card. Checked the supported devices and bought the Sierra Wireless EM7455. I installed the card and I got the 1802 unauthorized network error on boot up. Check this forum and I can see that there is a FRU number and that is important to be compatible. This is out of my mind how it is possible that this important information is not written at the supported cards. Now I have a EM4755 card with newer FRU number that is supported and I can not use this. Is it possible to update the supported card list in the bios or some other trick to use my stuff? Thanks a lot
