I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I currently have T580 with pre-installed WWAN module (Fibocom L850-GL) and trying to get to work it on Linux. It works perfectly fine on Windows. So far I discovered that Windows driver uses PCIe protocol to communicate with WWAN module, but Linux is supported apparently only through USB protocol, and if PCIe is enabled, the module ignores all USB commands according to its hardware specs document (page 26) - https://www.mev-elektronik.com/files/MEV%20Elektronik%20Service/produkt-downloads/rf-microwave-wirel... Fibocom recommendation is to disable PCIe in BIOS, that is not supported by stock ThinkPad. Thus in Linux the device is only displayed as "Wireless controller: [0d40]: Intel Corporation Device 7360 (rev 01)" through lspci , and nothing on lsusb . Any suggestions how to make it work on Linux? As an alternative I'm considering getting another WWAN module, but it's quite likely it will not work due to whitelists. The only other module that is whitelisted for sure is L830-EB, that does not have global coverage and thus doesn't work in the US or China, even so it was reported that it's Linux-compatible (USB-mode only). Maybe there is a patched BIOS that has whitelists removed? Wondering if there are Linux enthusiasts who are also looking for a way of using WWAN.

Hi all, I just began ordering T480s devices as the old T470's are gone, and running into an issue on one where every time the computer goes to sleep it simply states "No Connection" in the cellular section.  Prior to going to sleep it works fine, but after waking this happens every time.  A reboot resolves the issue, but this is incredibly aggrvating. I downloaded the drivers that were released for this WWAN from July 23rd and installed them, but even after doing so Windows is showing the installed driver as a generic device and NOT the drivers I installed(In device manager under wireless it does show as the Fibocom L850 though).  I've tried adjusting power settings, removing the card and putting it back in, uninstalling and trying a fresh install of the drivers: nothing seems to work. Has anyone encountered this or know of a potential solution?  Just about at my wits end here.

Hi! I have a new T480 with the factory installed WWAN option. It works on a fresh startup, but when the laptop goes into hibernate mode (not sleep) and then I wake it up, the WWAN stops workding. Windows Device Manager shows it as "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" Why does this factory installed option not work correctly in normal use? I would prefer not to have to disable hibernate or have to restart the laptop every time I want to have working WWAN. Thanks for any advice!

Until yesterday, the Fibocom L850-GL worked perfectly in my T480. After a restart, the device was gone and instead the error message "Detected unrecognized USB driver" appears permanently three times in the system log. The device manager recognizes a USB-Com device instead of the Fibocom. Detected unrecognized USB driver (\Driver\pci).Detected unrecognized USB driver (\Driver\ACPI).Detected unrecognized USB driver (\Driver\UDE). Even after a clean Windows 10 Pro (1803) installation, the error is repeated. The original installation of Windows 10 Pro (1803) immediately detected and installed the Fibocom.BIOS is up to date. For now I deactivated the device. Any hint?

Hello All, New T480 with the Fibocom L850-GL wwan card. Clean install of Windows 10 Pro x64, Redstone 4 (v. 1803). All Windows Updates applied. All Lenovo updates applied through the Vantage app via the Microsoft Store, and manually checked from the support page of the website (BIOS, WWAN, etc. updates). Following the manual, I pulled the external battery, disabled the internal battery, then inserted my T-Mobile USA sim card, then reassembled everything, then rebooted. Manually installed the latest L580-GL drivers from Lenovo. First off, the L850-GL is being shown as a USB device, as opposed to PCIE, with a hardware device instance path of USB\VID_8087&PID_0AC9&MI_00\7&4FA6012&0&0000, and a hardware location of 0000.0000.0000.003.000.000.000.000.000 in the properties dialogue screen in Device Manager. The Driver tab shows the provider is Microsoft with a date of 4/10/2018 and a version of 10.0.17134.1.... I suspect much of that to be a sign that something isn't right from the get-go... Second, every time I close the lid of the machine or leave it running long enough to enduce the proper level of sleep/hibernation, the card simply stops (with a hardware error 43 warning in Device Manager). At that point, my "T-Mobile LTE" network option no longer appears in the Windows 10 notification/network connections sidebar. My only recourse thus far has been to uninstall the L850 in device manager, "Sca... Hello, There's a bug in the ACPI tables that affects all of the machines listed in the title. The bug causes heavy CPU usage on one thread due to frequent ACPI interrupts. The symptoms are a slow system, and high CPU temperatures (idles around 65 degrees Celsius). Some operating systems may mitigate the symptoms, but the bug is present regardless. The following circumstances trigger it:-powering on the laptop-waking from suspend (and possibly hibernate - untested) The following actions prevent it:-reboot the laptop (temporary fix)-disable thunderbolt in the UEFI settings (permanent fix - with latest UEFI updates) The official UEFI update changelogs for all of these machines make explicit mention of this issue: "-(Fix) Fix an issue where system may become hot by system interrupts when Thundrebolt is disabled in ThinkPad Setup - Security - I/O Port Access." Unfortunately, the bug was not actually fixed. The solution that was implemented is only a bandage for the "disabled" thunderbolt state. This patch should resolve the problem. This patch would then remove the bandage of the official fix, since it should no longer be necessary. I will leave that for your engineers to decide. These patches were made for the T480s, but should apply equally to all affected machines.

I have a T480 with a Fibocom L850-GL WAN card. Frequently, but all the time, when waking up from sleep, it fails to appear in my Wireless options, and when I look at it in the device manager, under Device status Windows gives the message "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" I see others have had some problems with this card, but I haven't found this specific issue. I've installed the latest drivers as of today (2018-07-28) but I'm still having this problem. If I manually disable and re-enable the device it always comes back, but it's pretty annoying to have to do that.  Before I contact Lenovo for repair (the laptop is only a couple of weeks old) I wanted to check the forum for any ideas. Thanks!

This bug deserves more attention than it is currently receiving. It should be pinned in every forum with an affected machine, so that the owners of those machines are aware that it exists. It is currently squirreled away in the T series forum, under the outdated title "T480s - ACPI bug". I have asked that the thread title be updated and received no response. I have to presume that Lenovo did not see my request (in which case, they'll see it now). It would also be nice to get some kind of status update. For example, I am still waiting for confirmation that the patches from the newer thread were sent to engineering (see this message).

Hi  I'm thinking to get T580 with i5-8250U and then maybe upgrade CPU later if I need it and it gets cheaper. Is it possible?I didn't find CPU on the user replacable units list in the manual but I also read that it is possible for some older Txxx. Also - what is your opinion about FHD IPS display in T580? Did it improve compared to previous models (colors, brigtness etc)?  And the last piece - if I order it without WWAN - can I then add the card later or I will still be missing antennas or something else? I would expect to have no issues but I read different opinions on the net. Thanks a lot in advance  Hermez

I've shortlisted the T580 for a purchase, just wanted to ask what Lenovo's attitude to linux installs is. ThinkPads are well supported in Linux but how does that reflect in warranty provision, service etc? (obviosuly, service would not be expected for a custom installed OS like Linux).

I just wonder whether any issues may receive a "Oh, you installed Linux... tut tut... that is the problem." regardless of what issue one might have.

I've read that the fingerprint reader does not work in Linux. Is this still true ? If so, does that affect the NFC ? I ask because I noticed you can't select NFC without the fingerprint reader when configuring the system. I suspect that's because the NFC is provided by the fingerprint reader?

Hi All,Since a few days I am using T480 with Kubuntu 18.04.When I use the laptop for web browsing and text edition (light use which should not consume too much resources), the CPU's temperature is always around 50 deg C, with the fan speed of around 3000 RPM (the average CPU usage is 6%). The MX150 GPU is disabled with NVIDIA X Server Settings. If the GPU is on, the temperature and fans speed is more or less the same. Has anyone experienced similar CPU's temperatures regardless if it is windows or linux? Are such temperatures normal? The housing is pretty warm all the time. The ambient temperature is around 24 deg C. Best regards,Lendzian

I have a T470P laptop. I wanted to upgrade it with a WWAN card. Checked the supported devices and bought the Sierra Wireless EM7455. I installed the card and I got the 1802 unauthorized network error on boot up. Check this forum and I can see that there is a FRU number and that is important to be compatible. This is out of my mind how it is possible that this important information is not written at the supported cards. Now I have a EM4755 card with newer FRU number that is supported and I can not use this. Is it possible to update the supported card list in the bios or some other trick to use my stuff? Thanks a lot

Hello! I just buy X1Y without WWAN-modem, because I don't really need it for now, and try to use empty WWAN M.2 slot for SSD like I did with all my previous Thinkpad's - so I install Transcend TS256GMTS400 that perfectly works at my previous Thinkpad Yoga 12... but SSD does not apper at BIOS! At "BIOS - Boot priority" there are some empty device named "NVMe0" - because of absent of external NVMe ports and present of Samsung SSD as different device at M.2 2280 slot, its possible can be support for NVMe-PCIE SSD at that WWAN-slot... but I can not find any SSD M.2 2242 NVMe at all world...  Also I dont find any WWAN-antennas near WWAN-slot. Also because of gluided Yoga touch screens its unpossible to install WWAN-antennas by user without waranty lose. So it seems that X1Yoga's that sell's without WWAN-modems does not support WWAN-modems at all! So after all those problems it seems that at all configurations of Thinkpad X1 without WWAN-modem this WWAN-slot is absolutely useless!!! PS Also X1 have flimsy soiled case, loud keybord and a specially very loud touchpad buttons and trackpad buttons!  Does Thinkpad X1 with such problems are really premium device?!?!?!  Any suggestions for WWAN-SSD?!

Hello Lenovo Support! Can the linux users of this laptop get some love, please? In my case I only need the ability to update my BIOS from liveusb, an .ISO would be perfectly fine. I don't mind all the broken ACPI tables, BIOS updates, deleting all my efivars and some entries, I'll fix them myself, but I do mind, having to dualboot Windows, so just an ISO would be great. Lastly and most importantly can we also get the option to enable VT-d in the BIOS? Both MB and CPU supports it. I'm in extremely high doubt, anything would come out of this post, just hope atleast some of the staff read this to remind them 'Windows' isn't the only OS out there Thanks!

Does Linux support NTFS?

This was a question asked and talked about in #3dspotlight (unofficial IRC chatroom for TechSpot).

There is an article at www.anandtech.com about this. I am posting this article with a link so people can find this here if the question comes up again.

This article is located at http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=121

I in no way claim that this is my work.

All modern Linux kernels (all 2.4.x and many 2.2.x) DO support NTFS in read-only mode.

Long Answer:
Although you can read NTFS partitions created with any version of Windows NT, you can not WRITE to an NTFS partition created with Windows 2000, XP, or anything yet to come. NTFS partitions created with Windows NT 4.0 and earlier CAN be written to, but this tends to make a mess of the file system, so make sure to do a chkdsk when you boot into NT after writing from Linux.

Below are in-depth instructions on how to gain access to your NTFS partition from Linux.

To access your NTFS partition:

Open a shell if you haven't already.

Become root. Do this by running su and entering your root password when prompted.

Create a mount point for the NTFS partition. mkdir /mnt/ntfs

Mount your NTFS partition. mount -t ntfs -o umask=644 /dev/device /mnt/ntfs
Replace device with the name of your NTFS partition. See below for advice on how to find this if you don't know.

The contents of the NTFS partition is now part of your tree. When you want to acces... Read more

A:Does Linux support NTFS?

It can read NTFS no problem.

It can write to it to, however this is EXTREMELY problematic, and can cause data corruption.

You will have to have NTFS compiled as a kernel module, or into the kernel itself.

Can you please tell me which Linux distribution would suit for this laptop and another big question is are there no drivers available for Linux OS for this notebook model ? I couldnt find them here http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-g6-Notebook-PC-series/5262606/model/526... Awaiting your reply. Thanks.

A:Clarification on Linux support

HP supports Linux on a few models but that is not one of them. You can install Linux on it however. The hardware is mainstream so odds are any recent Linux distribution will "just work". I recommend Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (long term support). https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop Linux drivers do not work quite like Windows drivers. Only very rarely do you just download a driver and have it work. Linux requires some additional skills like compiling Code and getting under the hood with the command line. I have used Linux for over 15 years and have not had a computer during that time which was not running Windows and Linux so have installed Linux on a lot of computers. The Linux Support community is very friendly and helpful. So make the thumb drive or DVD to install Ubuntu and simply boot from it. You will need to format the hard drive and set up Linux partitions but the installer makes it easy. Post back if you need more specifics or have any other questions.

So, the original question was, Is it possible to charge the iPod on a 98se?

Obviously no, but I know the computer is capable of it because Ubuntu and DSL can power the iPod to charge. So I want to know is, what kind of software/drivers do those two distros use that let them send the power out?

Is it a special kind of thing that is for Linux only? Can it be converted to Windows, (Kinda like WINE in reverse).

Any insite would be appreciated!

A:What Type Of USB Support Does Linux Have?

Uhm.. The power is always supplied to all USB devices and you have to turn off the power manually per device or port. It is not a "feature", but an inherent property of USB. Most USB devices wouldn't even work if they didn't get power from the port.

I would guess it's a "feature" of your iPod (needs the computer to tell it to charge itself?) or some serious bug in Windows drivers and/or your ancient hardware. Do the USB ports work with your Windows at all? Have you used a mouse or a flash drive or something?

Maybe get a PCI USB 2.0 controller card? You would get more speed and new drivers. Make sure that Windows 98 is supported by the device!

Please any will tell me whether I can install Linux flavors on it or not?
If yes, which Linux flavors I can install on “Optiplex 9020”?
I also want to know whether this desktop I can use it as "Linux Server"?
Thanks
Bhanu

A:Does “Optiplex 9020” support Linux?

Hi,
Thank you for reaching us .
We ship these OptiPlex 9020 primarily with Windows Operating systems, however we have also tested installing "Ubuntu" which is Linux for home users.
You may give it a try in installing RHEL 6 after backing up the data from the PC, I do not see any reason why it wouldn't run.
If it doesn't, Please install Ubuntu or Windows back which should work fine.
Regarding your query about Linux server, It depends on what kind of server you are trying to configure, the best place for the answer is to check in Linux community forum where you can find discussions on the same.
Thank you

Hi there
Anybody running a Windows 8.1 Virtual machine from a LINUX host with 3-D support working. If so what distro are you using. (VMware player / workstation).

I've tried SUSE and DEBIAN - the VM runs perfectly except I can't get 3-D support or hardware graphics acceleration.

Under Windows as host (W7) no problem !!.

Cheers
jimbo

A:Windows 8.1 under Linux - which distro for 3-D support

Hi Jimbo,

You should try installing the certified drivers for the graphics card from Nvidia or AMD instead of standard installed ones, for some distro's use limited opensource versions like the nouveau driver.

Also see specific VMware info about what you need:
https://www.vmware.com/support/ws55/...ling_host.html
That's for a host,
It says WS5.5, but should still apply on newer releases, use the mentioned tools to get info about the graphic drivers.

For a guest, W8, check to see if 3D is on in the VMX file itself:
https://www.vmware.com/support/ws55/...abling_vm.html
some example for Ubuntu drivers or install procedures:
How to install Nvidia drivers in Ubuntu 13.04

Debian:
https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers

Although I'm not familiar with AMD/ATI cards, similar packages should exist:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver

Official binary releases, which are recommemded, also exist on the official sites, Nvidia, AMD.

For Intel I'm not sure what for driver will be used, I've seen something reported as Tungsten which provided pretty good basic acceleration a while back.

So in the end you'll need to install the latest official graphic driver you can get for your distro, then see That OpenGL is running well (run glxinfo and glxgears + some other benchmarking tools* are nice to see).

*System profiler and benchmark:
Good luck.

Hi,

This sounds like you are having problems installing Windows, I will move this to the windows vista forum as that is what you have listed as an OS. Hope you are able to get this figured out. I am sure the wonderful people in the window forum will be able to help you out.

I built this system in March 2009 and windoze vista 64 home premium.

This particular edition of vista was a nightmare from day one and I eventually found a work-a-round to get Ubuntu installed. NO Linux support from the MB manufacturer.

5 days after getting it to a dual boot system, vista stopped recognizing the mouse and keyboard.

So, I have a MOBO that doesn't like Ubuntu and is a nightmare to try to fond workarounds for.

Here is what I have to work with:

XFX nForce 750a SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID

AMD Phenom 9500 Processor HD9500WCGDBOX - 2.20GHz, 4 x 512KB Cache, 1800MHz (3600 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Quad-Core, Retail, Socket AM2+, Processor with Fan

Kingston PC6400 800MHz 4GB DDR2 Desktop Memory - (2 x 2048MB), 240 Pin

OCZ SLI-Ready Dual Channel 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2x2048MB)

XFX GeForce 9600 GSO Fatal1ty Edition Video Card - 768MB DDR2, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Link DVI, SLI Ready

Seagate 500GB Serial ATA HD 7200/16MB/SATA-3G

And the full sized ATX tower w/750 watt PS.

Which Motherboards would be the best to work with that HAS Linux SUPPORT?

Thanks for all the help over the years guys!

I truly do appreciate it!

Drew

A:Motherboard with Ubuntu/Linux support

Is there a specific component on that motherboard that you're having problems with? I can't imagine that the motherboard is not "compatible" with linux - in fact, I've found threads with people using Ubuntu with that mobo. I also find it odd that you'd have a Windows Vista issue with that mobo since most of the users I see online who use it are running Vista or 7 64-bit. Perhaps you have a faulty motherboard and it's not a problem with the model itself.

Noticing when I had a battery problem, the trouble shooting tips wanted to install detection software. It's all Windows based though. The same with drivers, etc, and other support tools.
There are these articles here though - http://www.dell.com/learn/au/en/audhs1/campaigns/dell-linux-ubuntu-en

Hi everyone, I'm a student and planning to buy the Campus version of the Thinkpad T480s with the Nvidia chip. It doesn't come with a WWAN module, but I'd like to add one. Information on that topic seems sparse and I tried to look for M.2 slot WWAN modules at different online stores. I found a few ones, namely- Huawei ME906S, listed to be compatible with 2016 Thinkpads- Sierra EM7455, listed to be compatible with the *70 series Thinkpads- Fibocom L831-EA (Intel XMM 7160), listed to be compatible with *70 series Thinkpads According to this reddit, at least the Huawei and Sierra ones are incompatible unauthorized for a T480s which, if true, is simply inconvenient, annoying and disappointing. As I mentioned above, buying a Thinkpad with a pre-installed LTE module is not an option because I'd like to have the Nvidia chip and am buying a Lenovo Campus Thinkpad which comes at a reduced price (and in Germany, it's the only way to get one with an Nvidia chip). As the Lenovo configurator and the T480s platform specifications indicate, the Fibocom L830-EB (Intel XMM 7262) and Fibocom L850-GL (Intel XMM 7360) are officially used and should definitely be compatible. However, I can't find them anywhere except pre-configured with a Thinkpad, which is not an option for me. Can anyone please help me with either of the following:- Is the Fibocom L831-EA (Intel XMM 7160) authorized for and compatible with the T480s?- Is there any place where I can get a Fibocom L83... Hi All,I'd just like to know if the Lenovo V110-15AST runs well with Linux. I'm planning on buying one but will reconsider is there are too many Linux compatible issues. I have already looked at ubuntu's compatibility page, various Linux resources etc. I read in the manual for the Lenovo V110-15AST that a fast boot system will have issues (something to that effect) but anything majorly wrong with the combo?

I'm working on a HTPC/DVD system, and I'm planing on running Mythbuntu for the OS/DVR system. Does anyone know how AMD/ATI's drivers are for Linux? I'm thinking of running a SAPPHIRE 100292DDR3L Radeon HD 5450 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card graphics card in it.

And if there is decent driver support for Hauppauge WinTV Tuner cards on Linux? Going to get some like
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1850 (updated version of 1800) MCE Kit 1128 PCI-Express x1 Interface down the road.

A:Linux driver support for ATI and Hauppauge cards

There are two breeds of linux driver for AMD/ATI: The FOSS drivers, such as the xorg radeon and radeonhd divers and the closed source ATI proprietary driver: known as fglrx. For your card, based on the evergreen GPU, you are going to be looking at using fglrx as the support for evergreen is far from complete in the open drivers at present.

No idea with regards to TV tuner cards.

You are asking this question at the wrong place however. This is not a linux community/support forum. Head over the phoronix forums, linuxquestions or go the distro specific forum (i.e. in your case the ubuntu forums).
