I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi to all,
I'm in desperate need of some help. I bought a new Dell Studio 15 (1555) at the end of Aug '09 and once logged on to my user profil used to get a box pop up asking me if I wanted to create a set of backup discs. Unfortunately at the tim I didn't have any discs so clicked the option to ask me later until I got some. I carryed on using my comp for a couple of weeks, as normal & updated all the drivers & software, etc as toled. Then when I finally bought some discs to make the backup discs found that the backup disc creation option that used to come up on my screen once logged on had stopped. I believe the software was Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 (not the online version, although I also have this on my laptop). I found the software on my comp but when I click on it it doesn't load. What happens is it looks like it trys to start to load as a small box with the logo for the software flashes up & then disapears within a split second, then nothing happens. The same thing happens automatically every few minutes whether I click on the software or not, it seems to keep trying to load every few minutes from the moment I log on to my user profile.

At first I ignored the fact that this box flashes up but now its becoming very annoying as when ever I watch anthing in full screen mode it always jumps out of full screen & believe this software trying to start is the reason, also when I try transfering files from folder to folder by dragging ... So I turn my computer off one day only to find it wont start the next day. I open the case up and see the led is on. I flip the switch on the power supply off then on and quickly press the power button. My computer starts but the following time I shut down the computer it again wont start and now the led is blinking. I've never had any issues like this before, any help would be appreciated.

I don't routinely use many usb devices, only my mouse and keyboard and every now and then my ipod. I figure the issue is likely either the power supply or the motherboard. The ps is almost two years old while the motherboard is only about three months old.

A:Computer wont start, power supply wont start, blinking led

It sounds to me like your PSU is the problem, get a hold of another and plug it to your computer and see if that will make it start, if it doesn't it might be BOTH your motherboard and PSU. A bad PSU will burn a motherboard.

Before it had gotten this bad, I had experienced crashes and reboots whilst it was working. They became more frequent and now the computer wont start at all. The power comes on, the fans all whirr, but the computer doesnt even get to the point where it displays the introductory bios screen.

Any advice?

first i dont know much about computers so please forgive me for the ignorance. i have an acer aspire 5335 laptop and several times i have had to do a factory reset and therefore losing all info i have, please someone tell me you can help me find a solution. i feel it has something to do with the windows 7 updates. it will work fine one day then the next time i turn on i get the acer logo screen then the windows boot up screen and after that a black screen. if i try to restore to a previous point it never works. i do a startup repair and it will work maybe a few times then its a hit or miss if it works then it just stops working completely. i did the rent to own thing so i do not have any of the dvds that would come with a laptop. once again it was working fine 2 days ago and today it started doing all this again. i would really like to find a solution that would not require me to lose everything on computer. any solutions.

A:laptop wont start

Did you buy the laptop with Windows 7 already installed? Acer shows that model coming with Vista, so if the rent to own company installed Windows 7 and did not provide you with an installation disc, it might not be a legit copy of Windows.

Regardless, BACK UP... copy your important files to a CD or DVD while you can. Do you know how to burn a CD?

Install Malwarebytes, then do a Full scan (for possible infections). This is to be sure your system is clean even though you likely have an antivirus program.

Let us know how this works out.

A:my hp g62 laptop wont start up!!

sounds like it may have been damaged when knocked over

Check all around the case and see if anything damaged

take the battery, and hold the power switch down for 60seconds

put the battery back and the charger

does it boot up - any lights or noise come on the machine
do you get the message to enter setup/bios flash on the screen at all

if it does not boot normally

try starting in safemode - as the pc starts keep tapping F8 - a menu should appear - see if you can choose safemode

i had this problem the other day and this is how i fixed it, so i thought i would share it with you all.

My Toshiba Satelite (Win7 Retail) refused to boot up the other day with these symptoms ... All LED lights working, No HDD activity and No Monitor display and Some Processor fan action. This all happened after numerous dreaded BSOD's!!!

Fix 1. (temporary). Removed Battery and power supply, held down power button for 30 seconds. replaced power cable and booted just fine (told to do this by Toshiba Support to clear static from the system)

However, this proved to be temporary as the BSOD re-appeared and Laptop crashed again. This time Fix 1 failed to fix the problem. So therefore i tried Fix 2

Fix 2. This time i removed both my Memory Modules (2 x 2GB), left it for 30 seconds, then replaced just 1 Module in slot 0. this time the Laptop booted just fine. I then shutdown and tried the 2nd Memory module in Slot 0 and booted again. This time the Laptop failed to boot. So I put Memory Module 1 back in in Slot 0 and booted without a problem.

My Laptop had now been running for 48 hours solid without 1 single BSOD. Guess i will get around to replacing the dud 2gb Memory Module eventually lol.

Just thought i would share my experiences with the forum.

A:what to do if your laptop wont start up

Thanks for sharing. The moral of the story: if the machine is having serious problems, it could be a RAM problem.

Hi, The 24 character error code is a failure of the comprehensive ( Full ) Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the issues you describe. If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know. Regards, DP-K

Likely you fried something on its system board. All is not lost though, there is a chance you didn't fry your hard drive. So you can still get the data off of it by getting one of those things that allow you to hook up a laptop hard drive on a desktop.

Hi guys,

HP Pavillion Compaq nc8430, running XP (i assume SP2). I note that it wasnt running an updated virus software, so this could be a virus right?

My problem is exactly the same as this persons:

I cant get to safe mode or any other option given. It will load the XP logo for 1 second and then flash a blue screen (not enough time to catch what it says), then restarts and does it all over again.

I was going to follow the advice given in that thread but my laptop doesn't have an option such as "do not restart on errors".

What should I do?

Help appreciated!

A:laptop wont start up

Safe Mode loads these drivers that are pictured in the pic you attached, but should then go to Safe Mode. Chances are great that your HDD may have failed. Boot off of an XP CD and get to the Recovery Console, there type in chkdsk /P and hit enter. the Check Disk Utility will try and fix any file errors. Download the SeaTools Hard Drive Diagnostic CD and create a Boot Disc, boot off of the disc and run the test to test the integrity of your drive.

I have a Toshiba Satellite P505-S8945 that will not start up. I can turn it on but it will not go past the initial Toshiba loading screen. I have had this laptop for over three years and it has run fairly well for me so far, except the battery just died recently. I got a new battery and it has been working fine so far i got it just a few days ago. The thing is today i decided to blow the dust out of it as it has been a while sense i have last done so. i removed the panels from the bottom and left the hardware alone. I used a can of suppressed air from Office Depot and then i put all the panels back.
Now my laptop wont start. It is stuck on the Toshiba logo screen with the options at the bottom to hit F2 for setup or F12 Multiboot selection menu. i have tried both of these but all it will do is change the bottom of the screen to "loading (which ever i selected) please wait..." but it never does anything.
Is there anything i can do or do i have to find someone that knows what they are doing to fix it?

What could it be that would cause my HP pavillon9000 laptop to stop working. I turned it off before going to bed and everything was fine. When I tried to start it up the next day. Nothing. The only sign of life is the green led light that comes on when I plug in the power pack. Let me add that I had a friend who is computer savvy look at it. He said he downloaded the techies manual for it and tried everything it recommend to fix it and nothing work. ie testing battery and power supply. He also said there was no apparent damage inside that he could see. Since its less than a year old I have contacted HP for help in resolving this problem but I am l still waiting for a reply. Is this a common problem for laptops or hp's in general? Thanks in advance for any Ideas or suggestions

When you start it up does any noise come out of the machine? Can you hear the hard drive spin up?

If you've tried a bunch of things with no success, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a faulty display. HP will probably fix it for you.

Hello all,

Not long ago I bought myself a Sony Vaio VPCEB1M0E/WI with a Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) operating system. It worked fine for about 5 months, but then one day I turned it on and this happened...

1. The vaio logo apears, then its followed by a black screen for about a min.
2. Then it sais "windows is loading files...." and a white loading bar loads up quickly two times.
3. Then the microsoft corp loading bar apears, but without the windows logo.
4. Its followed by yet another black screen that lasts for roughly five times longer than the last black screen.
5. Then a 'windows style' background apears and so does the mouse pointer, but the pointer is bigger than usual, asif the screen is zoomed in.
6. It then stays like this all day.

I've spoken to people from sony via online chat, and they've given me options like "press F8/F10 when you see the vaio logo" etc...The screens that came up provided me with different options, but every option i choose i end up with the laptop telling me "Recovery tools are being launched. please wait."
So I wait...and in the end it just tells me it failed.

Any help would be much appriciated, I'm going away soon and I'd love my laptop to be working as I tour the UK.

Thanks,
Dan

I would say that if you checked the boot order and the HDD is spinning up then it could be that the bootloader for windows is no good, which can be fixed from the install CD, does not sound hardware related to me as the machine seems to POST right?, it goes past the splash screen at first startup?

A:Laptop Wont start up

HI. It could be hard disk problem, if you remove it from the computer and the logo is still stuck, you could have a failure on the motherboard, remove it and go to the bios error is the hard disk. The diagnotic is made from bios by what the system does not interact, if you have knowledge and the equipment is not under warranty try with this. Or test entering safe mode although this is discarded but I do not think you can: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03439317 Regards.

I purchased a HP Spectre X360 13-4002dx laptop July of 2015 because, at that time, it was a top of the line laptop.  This morning, I saw that it was displaying a battery is low dialog, which is unusual since the charger cord was currently plugged into it.  In an attempt to troubleshoot it, and thinking it might have been some windows update that caused it, I shut down the machine and waited 10 seconds, then pressed the power button to start it back up. But, upon pressing the power button, the computer emitted multiple pops and crackles, and smoke poured out of the side vent.  I was, to say the least, shocked, as this laptop has never once moved from the table it calls its home and has been pampered the entire time I?ve owned it. Upon reading these forums, I?ve since learned that there are numerous people who have had this exact issue, claiming it is capacitors that have violently exploded inside.  It is not under any warranty that I?m aware of since I believe HP only offers a 1-year warranty, but to have this type of problem happening so much based upon my investigations of other's complaints, i would think that HP would realize that there is a system defect here and do something about it such as a recall.  What am I to do??? I expected this awesome work of electronic art to last me for at least 7 years or so, and have never had any issues with past HP equipment, but this leaves me worried.  Is there anything I can do to get this fixed, rep... Hello mates, well my gateway laptop has been frequently shutting down for what seemed to be no reason. It wouldnt stall or anything it would just shut down the other day it did it again and when i went to turn it back on, the screen came up saying windows did not start successfully and gave the options of starting windows normally or in safe mode or safe mode with networking and last known working point and so on. Well i have tried them all and it keeps going to the windows loading screen and then it will flash to a blue screen with lettering but flashes so fast i cannot tell what it says and then goes back to the gateway logo and then the same thing as before saying windows did not start successfully. Im not really great with computers as you can probaly tell but any help would be great!

Helo everyone! I have a huge problem. I was trying to install some themes on my toshiba L355 laptop earlier, so i had to do the .dll file patching. Well i accidently deleted the uxtheme.dll file and now my pc starts up but only shows a black screen. :-( It shows the error saying Cannot find uxtheme.dll re-installing might resolve. and nothing comes on. I tried running task manager and that doesnt comes up. It just keeps showing the error message everytime i hit somethiing. What do i do? I dont have recovery discs either :-( I followed the instructions from this website. (http://www.guimods.com/tutorial-how-to-install-and-use-vista-themes-and-visual-styles/) IDK what to do. Nothing starts up. Any help? Thanks

Start system in safe Mode by hitting F8 as soon & you press the power button on the laptop.
It will start in safe mode & then all you need to do is get that dll file from somewhere & paste in the folder where it belongs.
