T540p Internal Display stopped working

Q: T540p Internal Display stopped working

My internal display just stopped working for no reason with Windows 10. The external monitor still works fine though.I checked the Device manager, the internal display had disappeared from the Monitors section, only my external monitor was listed there. It had happened twice. I brought the display back the 1st time after I uninstall the monitor driver and re-installed the latest driver from Lenovo website, but this time it's already with the latest driver and the same trick did not work.Luckily I still have a clone image of the system with Windows 8.1. Once I switched back to Windows 8.1 the internal display worked fine so I think it has to be a driver issue. The display adpater is Intel HD 4600. The internal monitor is the original HD display that came with the laptop. Please help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Paulgti,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Consider updating the Intel HD Graphics from the Intel Website. Also, check if display fine when you connect with external monitor.

Please update the following

Hi community, we are using several Thinkpads for years mostly without issues. But for a while now we have to experience issues with our T540p's in combination with pro and ultimate docks. And lately we also run into the same issue with a T570.Here our configuration, there are two external displays connected to the docking and one of them is the primary screen. And this is the issue: When we undock the T540p, the internal display should switch to be the primary and only display, but it doesn't. It seems to be that the T540p is still thinking to have external displays connected. The internal display is all black but I can move the mouse pointer from the right into the screen and can also move it out of the screen by pulling it downwards. All windows are opened on the virtual screen, which means I cannot see any configuration windows to change display behavior. Pressing Fn+F7 and up or down arrow blind does not change anything. It does not matter if I undock the T540p while it is running, or if I shutdown the system before undocking. When this error occurs it also does not matter if I connect an external display to the T540p directly, I still cannot see anything. To set the internal display to be the main display before undocking does not change the behavior anyway. If I put the T540p into the docking again, mostly everything is fine. The two external displays are running as before. If it was a desktop PC that would be fine but it is a notebook and we need to carry it with us an... Read more

Hi guys! I'm really having a bad time, my laptop is currently unusable since the backlight is not working on either the TN panel or IPS panel that I have for it. when I first got the laptop it worked fine, allthough it ran a bit hot 65c idle. So I decided to change the thermal paste for with some Arctic Silver MX-4 and the idle temps dropped to 43c idle, a very nice improvement if you ask me. Then I decided to change the awful TN panel that it came with since I've done that a thousand times before with other laptops, so I went ahead and ordered one from eBay (it came from UK) since I did not want to risk some china panel potentially breaking my precious new laptop. when I got the new panel, I turned off the laptop then removed the battery and pressed the power button for 30 seconds, then porceeded to take the bezel off and remove the "old" working display and install the new display. No problem.... or so i thought... There was only a black screen when i booted it back up!turns out that the backlight was not working (I was shining with a flashlight and getting a picture on the monitor itself)I then did the same procedure and replaced the "new" monitor(IPS) with the "old"(TN) still no backlight... I really needed it for my school, so I went to a local PC-repair shop that could fix things such as laptop. thay said that there was 3 possibilities:broken monitorbroken motherboard (GPU is soldered on motherboard)borken cable from motherboard t... I have a gateway NV55s24u, my webcam was working fine, then all of a sudden when I click on my webcam it says "No webcam detected, try plugging one in, or if you are using an integrated camera, try turning it on" I noticed when I went into device manager that my imaging device (lexmark x422) has yellow triangle symbol with an "!" right in the middle. When I click on the device under the general tab it says "this device can not start, (code 10). Is this related to my webcam? If so how can i fix this error? I have gone to many different websites trying to fix this problem. WHAT SHOULD I DO, HELP PLEASE!!!!

A:Internal webcam stopped working!!!

lexmark x422 refers to a Lexmark printer/scanner, not a webcam. Try re-installing the Lexmark drivers for that device.

If your webcam is not listed in DeviceManager, and if the Lexmark X422 is the only device with an error symbol, it means the webcam itself is faulty or broken. Out-of-warranty repair on laptops is very expensive, you can avoid that by buying an external webcam.

I have a T540p that I am having unusual issues with the internal mike with.  It first showed up when attempting to use Skype and the internal mike would not pick up my voice.  All settings, both Lenovo and Skype, were checked and are set to the recommended ones.  In the course of troubleshooting this with the Skype audio panel open, I noticed that if I ran my finger across the top of the screen border where the camera and mike pickup are located, the Skype sound bar (green bars) would enlarge to the right as if it were picking up sound OK, but when I would use my voice, nothing moved on the Skype sound bar.

When I have the Windows sound app open, I can also see green bars appear on the mike indicator when I speak, but again, nothing seems to go out that is picked up by the mike.

Any ideas to resolve this would be welcomed.

Hi there -- oh, I so hope you can help me.

ETA: I am running WinXP Pro, on a Pentium III machine with 16.7 GB HD.

I have an IBM Thinkpad laptop with an internal Hitachi DVD-ROM player. It's not an R/W. Yesterday afternoon, it played a DVD movie just fine. Then I ejected the movie, put in another, and PowerDVD claimed "no disc in drive d:". So I went back to the first movie that'd worked seconds before -- no dice. "Please insert a disc in drive d:" it says. I tried Windows Media Player, Media PLayer Classic, even WinAMP. None are able to acknowledge that there's a disc in drive d. I tried audio and data discs as well, also nothing.

SO. I went to Device Manager and tried to Troubleshoot the device -- it claims it's functioning properly. I then uninstalled the device and the driver, rebooted, let Windows detect them, and reinstalled. They reinstalled perfectly, and Device Manager still claims the device is functioning properly. Still, the drive will not acknowledge that it has a disc in it.

While searching online for help I learned that this might be caused by...improperly assigning master/slave controllers to my internal DVD drive and my external CD/RW. I uninstalled and reinstalled my Secondary IDE Controller (on advice from a website troubleshooting tutorial), which reinstalled just fine, but I'm unable to figure out where in that device I can find out if my master/slave assignments are correct. Other web tutorials suggested I... Read more

If it was working and then just stopped working you have had a HW failure.
Replace the drive.
All that device manager can tell you is that the device is communicating, not if it is working.

Hello! Sorry, im new around here! :S

Basically, my HP DV6-3065EA running Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) laptop died. I went into a computer shop and asked how much a simple diagnostic test would be to find out how much a repair would be. He quoted me ?90. Phew, jog on! That wasn't going to happen!
Anyway, I decided to replace the power jack. No hard job, just a simple unplug and plug back in job. (looks abit like this Hp power jack image by chikyeung on Photobucket). I replaced it; everything is running fine.
I tried to put a USB pen drive into a usb socket. Didn't work. Tried another, didn't work. I have tried several devices and they all work on other computers but don't seem to be working on mine.
I have been trawling the internet for answers, and as of yet, nothing -.-! I wouldn't call myself a novice, trust me, I've tried everything, uninstalling and reinstalling all of the USB drivers, checking bits of the registry.etc. Nothing. So today, i thought, right, WIPE THE COMPUTER! I backed up everything, went back to scratch.
Tried another USB, didn't work.! Im completely puzzled!

Please help!!!

Thanks for reading! ;D

Oh, one more thing. When the laptop was unusable, I removed the hard drive and put it into another computer to retrieve some files. Could this have anything to do with it?

Any help is greatly acknowledged!!

A:USB Ports Stopped working after an Internal Power Jack is replaced.

It sounds rather as if your new part somehow isn't diffusing 5 volts to the correct circuits, which is what USB relies upon. Could be a bent pin or misaligned plug on those pins, or a broken wire.

I'm going to ask a few questions to help get acquainted with the issue and your hardware;

1: What OS are you running?
2: Do you know what make/model video card you have?
3: Does your video card have a DVI (White, rectangular connector) output?
4: How many outputs does your video card have in total?

A:AMD Display Driver Has Stopped Working

Hi there,

have you had these issues all the time? Or did they just start happening after a driver update from AMD? It's not always wise to update the videocard drivers. Sometimes newer versions introduce new issues.

I for instance also have an AMD videocard. All drivers newer then 13.1 result in a crash in 40% of the time I close Internet Explorer.

So, what I'm trying to say is. Try to downgrade your AMD drivers to the latest version where you didn't have this issue.

Good luck with it!

Ive been using an external monitor along side my winxp HP laptop for months via a VGA cord. I decided to connect my tv to my laptop using the same VGA cable and it didnt work. so i plugged it back into my laptop and that no longer worked as well!
took 30 seconds for my monitor to become useless.
Ive bought two other VGA cables thinking maybe my tv fried the cable, but still nothing works.

i don't think its drivers because it worked fine one minute and didn't the next. No signal is going to the monitor at all. no sign of the monitor even being connected.
anything i can do? Thanksssss.

A:2nd display monitor stopped working?

It sounds that more than likely the VGA port going out from the laptop was switched off during one of the changes. Most laptops now have a shortcut to turn this port on (since I believe it is off by default to save power) For example, mine is Fn+F5. What kind of laptop you have will determine this shortcut key. What is the model of the HP laptop are you using?

There might also be something wrong with the monitor though that is very unlikely. Does the monitor power on still and simply go into standby due to no signal? If the monitor has multiple inputs, it could be trying to find a signal from one of the other inputs. There should be a menu option to make sure the monitor is on VGA.

This is likely what was wrong with the TV as well, either it was looking at the wrong input or your laptop wasn't giving the proper output.

Hope this helps.

display driver has stopped working Will try to get exact error message next time happens fairly regular on a new Geforce 9500gs.
This is driving me crazy just installed 64-bit home premium because the 32-bit oem made explorer crash my rig is pretty new hard ware wise the components don't have over a year of use yet.however could it be something with the bad install of 32-bit I wiped the whole drive?

A:anyone have a fix for display driver has stopped working

I would uninstall the driver (e.g. in Device manager) and reboot. Hopefully the system will find the last driver by itself.

A:Re: HP Envy 34c - HP My Display has stopped working

Hi there @boowah, May the Forums be with you!  I understand that you are trying to use your 34c display with your laptop computer.  I am happy to give you a hand with this. What is the model# of the laptop you are trying to use? Are you getting any error messages on the display when you try to output to the 34c? Also please see HP ENVY 34c Media Display - Product Specifications. What is the maximum resolution supported by your notebooks display adapter? Please let me know when you can.

I am facing this problem once in each 3-4 hrs.
Everything is getting frozen and display is going black
for 2-3 seconds.Then I am getting a message like:

Display driver stopped working for Windows Vista(R)
and recovered.

The point is that I am running Windows7 Professional
(32-bit).

A few minutes ago I got a blue screen.
Everything is running fine for now but that can happen again.
Please help me solve this problem.

These are some information which might be useful:

Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Display Memory: 782 MB

I am getting this error after formatting my PC a few days ago.
Thanks in advance.

dont be frustrated, it may happen with your software malfundtions.
it may happen sometime, but would not repeat in a sequence.

Hello there,

I have been searching all over the internet for an answer to this and i read up that this site would probably give me some more help on this topic.

I recently updated my video card and my PSU. Now after i installed them both, everything seemed fine (i can surf the web, watch videos) until i tried to play any game. I could play the game for maybe 40 seconds and then my screen would black out and come back displaying this message. I have also had it freeze up with a screen of grey vertical bars as well.

I have tried several things so far to fix this:

1. i have updated my video card, BIOS, and chipset drivers.

2. i have ran driver sweeper to get rid of any existing data of my old video cards.

3. I have checked the temperatures and voltages of my hardware. [which you can see by checking here: http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt340/liljjbjrx/Stuff/Afteragametemp.jpg ]

I currently have a HP Pavilion Elite m9350f (link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01469329 )

Which i switched out the nvidia GPU for a XFX Radeon HD 6790 (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150564 )
I also switch out the PSU for a Corsair GS600 series [600W]

So what else could i do to fix this problem? i am running out of ideas here

I just purchased (not even a week old yet) an HP ENVY x360 Convertible funning Windows 10 Home 64-bit and I keep getting the following error message. Display driver has stopped working and has recovered. I've done all the suggested updates from HP (including the BIOS update) but it still hasn't resolved the issue. I have read the forum and this seems to have been a problem in the past with different PC/notebooks and different operating systems. This is the first WIndows based computer I've owned since 2007, what have I done?

A:Display driver has stopped working and has recovered

Hi @dsharvey?,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY x360 Convertible and issues with the Display crashing giving an error message. Try in the Device Manager, click the arrow next to Display Adaptors to expand that categoryRight-click on Graphics and select Update Driver Software if more than 1 Graphics adapter do 1 at a time.Choose the option to Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software. The Notebook should find and automatically install the updated driverAfter the installation is complete, restart your Notebook. You could  try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows 10.  Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed! Please let me know how this goes. You can say thanks by clicking the Thumbs Up below!.Thanks.
