I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

At the moment I'm looking at the Kingston A2000 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD, SA2000M8/1000G but I don't know if it will work in my laptop. I have pictures of the inside of my laptop from when i upgraded my RAM if you need them. Thanks

Hi All,  My '21 days old' ThinkPad T480 - Top of the line machine warms up at the top-left section of the keyboard, just above the vents!   I'm not sure what needs to be done. I raised a complain with the Lenovo Support and the technician who paid a visit today, apparently was ready to replace the motherboard, because he thought that I reported a heating issue with my machine. But that wasn't the case. I'm surprised though that they were ready to replace my machine with a new mother board, without knowing the exact issue.  Any ways, so all he did was replace the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, I was okay with that, as I read in many forums that replacing the thermal paste helped reduce the heating issues.  Its only now that I'm starting to realize, that I don't think its more of a heating issue, but a SERIOUS design flaw in T480 machines.  The top-left edge portion of the keyboard that which is just above the vents, seems to start warming up within 30 mins of NORMAL usage. I don't see the fan doing its job either, may be its suppose to speed up at very high temps, irrespective, what I think is the problem is that the fan case that is connected to the vents, for some reason the casing touches the vents plastic body and that's transferring the warmness up to the place where ones left palm would naturally rest while typing.    It warms up to the extent that I can feel its not comfortable for me to ... I've spoken with my Lenovo representative and according to him, it is impossible to as SSD as secondary storage. But I have no idea about what kind of SSD (SSD Type, Brand, Size,..) support for T480 and warranty validity for the disk upgrade. Kindly enlighten me further on this matter.

According to https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/docksSearch/ the Lenovo T480 20L6 laptop is compatible with the ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station. However the docking station uses an entirely different power supply than the laptop (the old blocky rectangular one vs the newer mini rounded rectangle). The laptop itself fits on the docking station, but does not charge despite the docking station being plugged in. There are two connector slots on the dock that appear to be for the newer power supply, however neither of those provide power either. Is the docking station incorrectly listed as compatible when it really isn't, is there a hardware malfunction, or something else entirely?

My laptop is Thinkpad T480, core i 7, 32GB RAM with Nvidia and 1 TB SSD. Initially I have Dolby Digital Advanced Audio(DDAA) Profile Editor as desktop short-cut ( the editor has a graphic equalizer which can be edited). But after the windows Update, the DDAA profile editor has been disspaeared. I uninstall the audio driver, restart and then again install Audio driver from Lenovo website but the editor did not appear. Even in the C drive , I tried to retrieve but failed. Then I go to Lenovo VANTAGE app and found this. Here, the mode can be changed but there is no graphical equalizer like DDAA editor. What's is the solution of this problem?

Yesterday, I accidently droped just little water on the keyboard. It remained working for a while before the whole keyboard froze and stopped working at all, the strange thing was the beeping that the laptop keeps doing on one second interval, it does not stop beeping unless you press the shut down. The strange thing is that the laptop all working except the keyboard, and this beeping every second that never stops. It is like a blood rate device voice that you hear at the ICU if you are sitting beside a patient. My question is there a way to avoid replacing the keyboard as it seems it is a keyboard issue if I am not wrong? Or should I try to open it and dry it in some way then connect it again and see if this beeps goes and if the keyboard returns to life again? Thank you for the help.

Cannot get the display connect to the laptop through the included USB-C cable. Tried using both available ports, and through a docking. Windows detects that something is connect, but says ?Display connection might be limited?. The display doesn't appear in device manager, only the USB hub on the display.  Laptop is updated with latest windows. Also tried updating the thunderbolt 3 firmware. DisplayPort through DP cable on dock works fine.

I've just bought a new T480 with an optical 500GB hard drive and I'm hoping to upgrade to an SSD. I was thinking of getting something like a Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe with a caddy, but then I read this post https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T480-with-sata-hdd-upgrade-to-1-TB-NVMe/... So now I'm wondering whether it would be a waste of money, and negligible speed difference, to get something like the 970 Evo? Or would I be better of saving some money and getting a SATA SSD, something like the Samsung 860 EVO? My main use is running virtual machines and Java development using IntelliJ, if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Hi guys and/or girls, I am working on upgrading a business laptop which happens to be the Lenovo Thinkpad T410, now im putting an 250GB 850 Evo to replace the INSANELY SLOW HDD, however i am also upgrading the system from windows 7 and upgrading the RAM, now here is where i need help, I am going to be installing a 2x4GB kit of Corsair Vengence SODIMM, however I am unsure whether i should go for the DDR3 1600 kit or the DDR3L 2133 kit, now these are both the same price so the obvious pick would be the DDR3L due to the lower power draw and higher frequency, but the current memory installeld is only 1333, however the laptop is documented to work with 1600 so i know this isn't a problem, however I am unsure if it would even correctly downclock the 2133 or would it simply refuse to post, as well as this, would the laptop still attempt to send 1.5v to the memory or will it automatically do 1.35v as required by the DDR3L, oh how i do wish laptops all offered an "advanced" section within the BIOS which would allow me to tweak all of this stuff, however the only thing the bios lets me do with memory is set an extended mem test during boot which obviously is no help.  Thanks for your help

A:Lenovo ThinkPad R61i UPGRADE

Welcome to the forum!

There's no hard drive size limit on your machine - so if you want to put in 500GB, go ahead. The same holds true for the drive speed - your choice.

Any 9.5 mm laptop SATA drive - including SATA II - will work fine, but you'd need a modded BIOS to utilize the SATA II speeds on your machine.

T9600 will not work. T7700 should.

Your machine can handle 4GB of RAM for sure. And yes, if both slots are populated, it works in dual channel mode.

You could upgrade the screen to SXGA+ (1400x1050) or UXGA (1600x1200) that were used on T60/p generation.

Enjoy the upgrade process.

Please Help! I ran the Lenovo BIOS Upgrade for Thinkpad E540 for Windows 7; it didn?t work. (?Failure to Read BIOS?) So I downloaded the ISO version, and burned it to a CD. My laptop boots up ONLY from the CD. Now exactly what do I do now, in simple instructions, to upgrade from the ISO CD to the new updated BIOS so that it would be on my laptop (instead of having to boot from the CD every time)? Thanks!

A:How do I Lenovo BIOS Upgrade for Thinkpad E540 for Windows 7 from ISO CD?

Welcome to the forum!

If you boot from the CD (and the ISO was correctly burned on the CD), you only need to follow the instructions on the screen. If I remember correctly you need to press Enter once, (eventually confirm by pressing the "Y" key) and then the BIOS will be updated. After that you can remove the CD and boot normally.

You need to be connected to the AC and have a full charged battery before the update.

Hope this helps...

Hello to everybody,Recently I have bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 and I want to increase the memory, (by default is 4 GB) to 8GB or 16 GB. if it is possible. My question is if this laptop support without any problems or errors 16GB RAM of memory, because officially it is only 8GB.RAM, but I have seen on internet, people with 16GB Ram in this laptop, Are there any problem with this? If so, upgrade to 10GB or 12GB RAM would be posible instead? Also I want to increase the capacity in my laptop (by default is 320 GB.HDD), and I want to put a 500 GB SSD Disc, and if is possible to maintain both the Hard Disc anda SSD Disc, it would be possible to put SSD Disc into the PCI Express slot and mantain the Hard Disc at the same time. Or the only possibility is to replace the Hard Disc for a SSD Disc?Thank you very much,Regards.

Hey Lenovo Enthusiasts! I am about to purchase the Lenovo Thinkpad 550s, and I am tempted to purchase the baseline memory (4GB) and storage (512GB) HDD.  I want to make sure that I can indeed upgrade the memory to 16GB of RAM and the storage to a 256 (or 512) GB SSD. In my research earlier on, I noticed that somebody had posted a link to the parts list:https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/w550s_frubom_20150130.pdf I don't know what half of this technical jargon is, but from what I gather, I have found an SSD made by Samsung on Amazon, and an 8GB memory made by Data Memory Systems that seem to abide. SSD:http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-256GB-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7KE256BW/dp/B00LMXBOP4 Memory:http://www.datamemorysystems.com/parts/lenovo/03X6657/ Questions:1) Could somebody wiser than me please verify that these products will work for the w550s? I was going to purchase them from Crucial, as they say that is is "100% compatible" but I am not sure still.Crucial: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/thinkpad-w550s 2) In regards to the warranty, does anyone know if I were to mess up the data preloaded on the HDD that is put in the laptop, by trying to transfer it to the SSD, would the warranty cover fixing this? Kind regards,Spencer

A:Lenovo Thinkpad W550s Memory upgrade to 16GB and S...

Very disappointing. Yes, I have the same problem (son, since it is your problem!). I note that over 189 people have at least looked at this question you asked before we decided to have you purchase the W550S...and after calling tech support one last time after my son purchased the machine (and was told there should be no issue)-we see BSOD multiple times within an hour.  They happen so quickly that it is hard to even note what the error message is.... I replaced his 512 HD with Samsung SSD 512GB drive. I used a disk duplicator-everything seemed to go great. Then I put in 16GB of RAM-again, everything seemed great. However, the notebook is only now being used frequently as my son is starting school now-and as said above, the BSOD is making me think this has something to do with the SSD or RAM replacement. Yes, obviously, it's fairly easy to replace with the original parts and see if the problem goes away-but he wanted the SSD and more RAM, so even if that fixes the issue-we will likely get rid of the notebook. BUT:  here is what disappoints me:  absolutely no comment on my son's original questions. I'm guessing I won't get input from Lenovo either....will try to call tomorrow, but we are almost beyond the point where we need to return the SSD/RAM and notebook if we want our money back. A little guidance from Lenovo would be appreicated before we need to make a decision.. Thanks,Steve

Probably will never go back to regular laptops!  I'm currently using a X220 (4286CTO) bought in Sept. 2011 and I'm looking to upgrade the laptop in a few ways so I can continue to use it well. Some relevant specs/system information?  i5-2540M @2.6GHz 4.0GB x 1  of RAMWindows 7 Professional 64bit BIOS version 1.40 (14/5/2015) 270 GB HDD Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wi-Fi AdapterMy questions: What is the max amount RAM/max speed RAM my machine can support and what are some trusted/compatible memory sticks you guys have used or are using in your X220? Should I buy another 4GB x 1 stick or go for a new set of 4GB x 2 sticks? I want to install a mSata SSD. What are some compatible/reliable mSata SSDs that would be good and what is the max storage/speed SSD that would work? I tried to research online some about Sata II vs Sata III and I did not really understand it. Should I just get a regular SSD and replace my HDD?Random question for X220 users: do you guys still have the palmrest crack issue near the touchpad where the lid closes? My palmrest has gotten replaced 3 times specifically for that problem by warranty and now it's inevitably happened again but my warranty has run out, lol. I remember this was a chronic issue among a bunch of X220s.  Thanks in advance for any/all answers. Really appre... Read more

A:Lenovo ThinkPad X220 General Upgrade Information (RAM/SSD)

Hi and welcome, heyArhumGlad to see ThnkPad and x220 lover 1. x220 supports up to 2x8 GB RAM installed. With BIOS up to v.1.28 it supports 1333 Mhz memory by default (by design) and memory 1600 Mhz w/o issues. With 1866 Mhz memory some issues might appear, depending on the memory stick manufacturer, model, parametersStarting with BIOS v.1.29 using not designed memory type is locked.2. x220 mSATA slot supports SATA II interface. There are no SATA III lines of laptop chipset in that interface. So, use any mSATA drive, on your choice - capacity, budget, vendor..., not in the m.2 formfactor (!). Intel, Plextor, Crucial, Corsair, Samsung, Kingston... Not NoName and OCZ. Of course, most mSATA III drives are back compatible with mSATA II slots. The choosing between mSATA + HDD and regular 2.5" SSD drives depends on the storage capacity you need, laptop usage profile.3. I don't know about palmrest cracking issue despite the fact I contacted with hundreds of the x220 owners, since the beginning of 2011. I'm sure there might be a bit trouble with parts fixing under palmrest, their routine. There was the single case I remember - the user has breaked it himself due to the impact.

Hi, I have a ThinkPad P50 with 500GB SSD in it. I would like to add a secondard HDD. What is the maximum capacity available that I can add? Do I need to buy any special bracket/frame? I am looking for a high performance drive. Is there any option to add a 4TB, 7200 rpm 2.5" drive to this machine? Thanks.

Hello I bought a P50 with an 256 GB M.2 NVMe drive into slot 0. I would like to know if it is possible to add-mix a second hard drive like M.2 SATA in slot 1.The fact is that HDD type in slot 0 (=NVMe HDD) will be different to HDD type in slot 1 (= M2 Sata HDD). I know that i will need a M2 Sata tray (Part number: 4XB0L78233). Thanks in advance

Hello. I'm having a substandard issue with my Lenovo Yoga Laptop that I will try to explain in complete detail. First I'll summarize what's going on, then I'll list all  the details that could be related to this problem, no matter how small, in order of most likely related to least likely related. I'm an IT technician so I have some grasp of computer troubleshooting, just keep in mind. Alright, so the issue is that my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga (can't find exact model, label only days Yoga and its dated in 2013) will not boot into Windows 10 after I have done an upgrade from Windows 8.1 using Microsoft's media creation tool. More specifically, I was able to do the firat time setup and boot on once but after searching for Windows updates and restarting, the computer will not boot on. The most likely reason for this I believe is that the laptop doesn't recognize the SSD with Windows 10 on it. It can detect it in some ways but not others. In Lenovo diagnostics I'm not able to run a storage test, which is an option I know is usually there because I've troubleshooted these before, which leads me to believe it doesn't recognize it. However, boot menu and BIOS recognize the drive. Attempting to boot to it from boot menu gives a long black screen and then it takes me back to boot menu. Letting my computer boot up normally also gives a long black screen after the ThinkPad logo and the automatically goes to boot menu. The other diagnostics for Lenovo hardware all pass. So some...
