Q: Storage

There is a web based site where you can upload files (i think a GB) and store it there for free for I believe 7 days. Does anyone know the name of the site? I know whale mail does it but they charge.

Preferred Solution: Storage

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I created a Storage pool with the following setup. Three 3TB drives with parity all in an external enclosure with eSata and USB 2/3 ports. It was connected via USB when created and had production data loaded and tested without any issues.
After a few days of use I decided to see what happened when I tried to access it via the eSata port. No luck, due to a driver on the eSata card issue with Win 8. So I powered all back down and plugged back in via USB. At this point the Storage pool went
into the state as per the screenshot below. Any suggestions to either fix the issue and/or retrieve the data that is in the volume?

I currently have the Intel ICH9M E/M Sata AHCI Controller, driver version dated 4 June 2009. Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade to Intel Rapid Storage Technology, and if so, what's the latest version I can safely upgrade to, and do I need to make any BIOS changes?
As usual any help is really appreciated.

A:Can I upgrade from Intel Matrix Storage to Rapid Storage?

I have an Intel ICH9R controller and am using the same driver version. Was not able to find a newer one. I think the newer drivers aren't compatible anymore.

Has anyone tried the new Storage Spaces feature in Windows 8? Your experience with it?

More specifically:

1. If this system is used on a shared network with other operating systems such as XP and Windows 7, can the storage pool drives be set up as shared, and become visible and usable from the XP and Win 7 machines?

2. If you have a Network Backup drive, like WD My Book Live, will it see and back up the Storage Spaces configured drive just like any other drive on the network?

A:Storage Spaces (Storage Pool) Experience?

I've only set this up on a Windows Server 2012 configuration therefore I cannot provide the exact steps on how to set one up in a client environment. That being said, a storage space/pool is essentially a virtual disk that resides on one or multiple physical disks allowing you to accumulate free space. For example if I have multiple servers with free space on their data drives I can then create a storage pool to accumulate this. To allocate this storage pool/space to a user or machine you will need to decide what you wish to do with it. Below are a couple of examples of how:

Share via Windows Folder Sharing (UNC Path)Use iSCSI to use the current ethernet infastructure allowing you to assign the storage pool/space a drive letter to the client machineIn a server environment you may wish to use it for DFS (Distributed File System) to maintain redundancy

Personally I use my storage pool as an iSCSI drive for which i have partitioned.

You can only use the free space of a non Windows install drive. To my knowledge you cannot overcome this with partitioning.

In relation to your second question, you will only able to use the share as a safepoint backup if it is shared via Windows Folder Sharing. For example: \\computername\share

Also you will need to make sure that the NAS is on the same workgroup as the Windows 8 machine hosting the storage pool otherwise it will not be able to find the share. Hopefully this is what you asking however pleas... Read more

With Google I couldn't find answer, how to handle USB removable media inside camera.
With camera there is no "Safely remove hardware and eject media" option.
When Photo camera is connected, a new camera device is installed and GUI window is opened with option to browse or copy photos. But there is no removable storage devise eject button on notification area. The USB removable Storage devise is also present on File Manager Computer left panel but again, there is no mouse right button eject option as normally with removable storage devices. I have checked in on several computers. How to understand. I don't believe that it's camera specific but Camera is Canon S95.
Any ideas?

I was asked by answers.Microsoft.com to refer this question to this forum.

BTW there doesn't seem to be an option for Windows 10 forum. So I  had to choose Windows 8.

My Laptop installation of Winodw 7 and then upgraded to 10 was configured from the start to have the USER folders (u sing a script provided by Microsoft) on an SD card through an Expresscared media read/write because my system disk is a 64gig SSD

I set the maximum shadow copy storage space to 8 GB in my Vista and thought I should never worry about the space in my system disk. However, I have just found the Used Shadow Copy Storage space is bigger than the Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space at the moment:

Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 10.326 GB
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 10.573 GB
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 8 GB

Do you know why and how to limite the Used Shadow Copy Starage space?
Thank you for any suggestions!

A:Used Shadow Copy Storage space is bigger than the Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space !

It would be helpful if you filled in the System Specs. That way if you post on another issue people answering don't have to ask the same questions about your hardware over again, or search for the post with the info. Just push the specs link in every one of your posts.

I'm not sure how they measure the space usage. But 8 GB sounds like only a couple of restore points. How big is the HD? I suspect when deciding to discard an old restore point it looks at the current usage. If under the limit, it keeps all the old and makes another. That's just a guess on my part. But you can try a few different max numbers and see how it acts for yourself. As Yogi Berra said, "you can observe a lot by watchin'".

Q: Storage

I recently bought a 300 GB hard drive to replace my 40 GB and i was wondering how im supposed to move my info if i only have 1 cable to connect my hdd to my motherboard

i know about norton ghost but i have around 20 GB of info on my current hdd so i cant really put it all on a dvd

If you are using an IDE hdd then you should have 3 ports on teh cable. one that connects to teh motherboard, one that makes a drive the master and one that makes it a slave. just format the 300G drive then when you restart your computer just move teh info over. also windows xp has a program on it that can make a backup of your computers software/files.

Is there anyone in the community who knows if there is any way of simply 'storing' an AVI file to DVD via burning, without the intention of 'reading' the file from said disc, without the need to first convert the file from AVI to DVD ?

Sure, just burn the avi file to DVD. You should be able to do this by right clicking on the avi file then select Send to and select the DVD drive as the target, or install ImgBurn and use it to burn the file to DVD. No conversion involved.

Q: Storage

Hello! I've been using my HP Stream 13 for almost a month and I find a very confusing part about the storage. My computer has 32 GB storage and 2GB RAM. To save storage, since the internal memory is minimal, I inserted a 128 GB usb 3.0 and store all my files there so that internal storage won't decrease. However, the memory still keeps decreasing as I continue using the Laptop. I tried using CC Cleaner so that somehow I could delete unnecessary files. But still it didn't work. So from time to time I check storage about the allocation of files, what type increases so bad that it eats up the memory.  Then I noticed that the System & reserved is increasing so as my temp files plus I couldn't delete the temp files. At the moment, my free storage is 2.01 GB. This is bothering me. Is this normal? haha if not, what could I do about this? By the way my laptop is not partitioned.

When I bought this all-in-one, I did not know it doesn't have storage. Everything now goes to one drive (pics, software i purchase, docs....). I bought 256gb jump drive - i went to settings to default automatic storage options from one drive to jump drive - however whenever I press apply (changes) my PC reverts back to one-drive. This sucks- can't use my computer for work-which is why i purchased it.  I do commercial building inspections and take 1000's of pictures a month. I do not want one drive - don't want a monthly storage fee for life. Do not want other cloud based storage option for same reason. I think I may have addressed everything. Thanks - please help.

Hey anyone have one of those USB storage devices ? I am going to pick one up late this week, probably 64 or 128. I am going to use it to load drivers and utilities for when I go to others computers to load or fix something, sounds better then carrying a load of disks and cd's, I can get them from 32meg to 1 gig. Anyone have them, like them ? i will let you all know.

A:USB Storage

I used one of the 128Mb to help a guy in class, and liked it very much... Easy to access, quick transfer, and generally no hassle... (this was on a 2k box...)

I'd buy one or 2 myself, if it weren't for the price...

No speed differences. No need to go GPT on a drive under 2.2 TB.

i am kind of confused as to the difference between online storage and
memory. i only have 512gb memory but i have fast internet and my norton
keeps saying my online storage is full and i need to buy more. could you
please help me to understand. thank you in advance.

Memory is not storage. Memory is a temporary location for data on the chips of your system board. Programs go there to run and data is loaded there for programs. It goes blank when the machine is turned off.

Online storage is storage space on a server somewhere on the internet. Some people store files on the internet so that they are accessible from other locations, or in case the system fails, as a backup.

ok I have a newish dell Inspiron laptop that I bought maybe two or three months ago. Basically nothing on it except for Microsoft office and some of my personal documents Web browsers etc. The laptop has a total of 500 GB of storage, and now the system is telling me that my storage is full, even though I know I couldn't possibly have done anything to use that much storage. I have been trying to see where all the space on the hard drive went, but all the system gives me is 444 GB of my 465 GB reserved for System files!!!??? Honestly I'm not that technologically illiterate, but I don't understand how this happened at all. Could it be some sort of a virus or possibly correlated to my recent update to Windows 10? (Refer to picture) Has this happened to anyone before?I haven't downloaded 400 GB worth of info in my life, and there's no way available to see what exactly this space is for. The PC didn't come like this, if I recall it showed the space as available. In any case there really isn't 400 GB of information on the computer, and it's really frustrating. Does anyone know anything about what this might be or what to do about it? I appreciate your help!

You can do a little shopping and compare. The enclosure can be had for 12 bucks and the drive around 100 if you dig around. Check for specials and watch for refurbished drives. Newegg, Geeks, PacificGeeks, there's a bunch of reliable places to search. Some come with backup software that may make the assembly a little more expensive. And you can get free software that'll do the same thing. Good luck with your search.

Hi Jonolomu. We may have to welcome you to TSG with some bad news.

If you are asking about doing this with commercial movie DVDs, you may not find much help here. Attempting to do what you are asking about would require circumventing some of the copyright protection on such DVDs. Such discussions are forbidden by TSG rules.

A:More HD storage

The quickest and easiest way to get more storage space is to purchase an external hard drive that connects via USB. All you do is plug in the drive to the USB port and you have instant storage. You can easily find one at a Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart?, or at an online store such as www.newegg.com. Another, more permanent, option is to purchase an internal hard drive via the same methods listed above. Just make sure it is not a "Serial ATA" or "SCSI" drive.

If you want to clean up your existing hard drive, you can use some of the programs found here: www.snapfiles.com/freeware/system/fwdiskclean.html

Hope this is what you were looking for!

Hi, I am looking into purchasing a P51, I can see that there is one place for a normal 2.5 inch HDD/SSD and two M.2 places for additional SSD's. However, when configuring the P51 on the Lenovo's website, under the category "First Hard Disk Drive" I am given the option of selecting one primary hard driver which is a normal 2.5 inch form HDD, and then I am able to select an additional 2.5 inch form HDD under the category "First Solid State Drive / Second Hard Disk Drive". Hence, I end up with TWO 2.5 inch form HDDs. My question is: where does the additional 2.5 inch form HDD go?  Or is it a mistake on Lenovo's website. Thanks!

How to: Setup SSD boot drive with secondary Hard disc optimization
However I kept on running into issues during step 7, where it wouldnt let me completely cut and past the default folder leading to the inability in logging into the second user account.

If there are other tutorials you think I should use feel free to post the link. Thanks guys.

A:Set up for SSD boot with HDD storage

Hello islasian67

Everyone does this different, it totally depends on how much you want to move from your ssd to your hdd. Personally I just move all my user folders to a hdd keeping all parts of the OS and programs on the ssd. Another option is to do what you have been looking at and move the whole user profile (including the AppData Folder) over to the hdd. Both are valid options especially as you are going to be doing a clean install. Follow the links below and you wont go far wrong.

1) SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation
2a) User Folders - Change Default Location
2b) User Profile - Change Default Location
