Preferred Solution: Cant delete pictures, verify items location and try again?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello..

In the past few days when i try to delete a folder from my desktop I will get an error that says:

"Could not find this item

c:/users/xxxxxxxx/desktop

Verify the items location and try again"

When I reboot my computer the item actually is deleted after the reboot. I found tons of stuff on the web about how to delete files but I want to actually fix the error (that I could not find)

I don't want to just know how to delete the files when I get the error, but instead I'm trying to figure out how to fix it so this error stops popping up. Much searching on the net and I found nothing about actually fixing the error itself.

My windows 7 professional (64bit) was only installed about 2 weeks ago so it is a pretty fresh install.

Like I said, it only started 2 or 3 days ago so why all of a sudden it is happening I don't know. But it sure is annoying.

I'm wondering if it is somehow associated with my registry.

Any idea how to fix the actual error (not just how to delete the files) so it stops popping up every time I go to delete a folder, would be appreciated?

Thanks

If I understand your post what you must do is stop downloading things that put such items on your desktop.

It would be very helpful if your specs were filled in completely including your power supply and security programs used.

when I try to rename or move folder or file. When I try to delete or copy there is no problem only when I try to move or rename I get this error. when I rename or move html, xml, mp4, mp3 or pdf files there is no problem but I noticed when I rename or move rar or zip file I get this error. If you haven't already, you might see if restarting the computer may be able to get rid of this ghost file.

If not, then you might see if the free program Unlocker may be able to allow you to delete/remove it.

Hello I have a suggestion. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.

I just cannot follow some of the threads I have seen on this subject, too complicated and do not quite cover what I want I think?I have set the windows backup several times to locate files on my 2 TB external hard drive, but I cannot see where they are and I always get a message at the end that some files were skipped?
How do I check the backup has been done? Also get that message "cannot find files" when I try to follow it up? Using Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1,64 bit OS, if that helps?
Thanks anyone if you can help this newbie with some plain explanations please?

A:Cannot verify windows 7 backup location on ext.HD

Windows inbuilt backup has 2 types of backup
1) user files (& some system files) - basically documents etc (NOT operating system or installed programs).
Backup User and System Files
If your computer is called say 'Jones' then this backup will be in a folder called [Jones-PC]. Explorer will say it is empty - it is not and is full of .zip files.

2) a full system image - basically a full snapshot of your OS partition. Includes the OS, installed programs, user data...the works. You can restore back to your current hard drive or even to a new hard drive if your current one fails.
Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup
System Image Recovery
A system image is in a folder called [WindowsImageBackup]. Explorer will say it is empty - it is not.
System images are one of the most important backups you can make. An alternative and more powerful (and simple!) system imaging program is free Macrium Reflect.

Take time to read the tutorials and you should be fine.

A new Gateway laptop has 10 links on the left side of the Start Menu for various Windows programs and Gateway programs. I am trying to find the location on the HDD or registry where these exist. Reading through tutorials and threads on Start Menu has not helped.

C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items

If I drag a shortcut in this list to the top of the start menu, then that shortcut becomes "pinned" and there is a seperator line between it and other items below. Is there another place I can find this group of shortcuts?

I have a small network with 5 Windows XP Pro SP3 machines and one File Server that is running Server 2003.

All of user's My Documents files are located on the file server, so if one user needs to use one of the other machines (which happens often), they can log-in to their profile on any machine then click on My Documents, which is preconfigured to point to their user documents folder on the server.

My question: I would like to set this up for Internet Favorites and Desktop Files as well. If I move all the user's IE Favorites from their local machines to the user's folder on the file server, would there be a way for me to link them so that no matter which PC they are logged into, they see the same Internet Favorites listed in their browser? Ditto with the Desktop files.

By the way, I have also considered Terminal Server (I dont have the time for it yet..) and have messed around with roaming profiles, and often times it would not sync at all, or would lag when 2 users logged off at the same time.

Thanks.

I didn't want to post here because I'm not 110% sure if this is a virus, malware, etc. It only appeared today just now.
My mouse is old and has been dying and was just having some issues with double-clicking. This is to be expected, as I need to buy a new mouse soon.
Anyways, I was scrolling/clicking through a folder of pictures and perhaps my mouse double-clicked or bugged out, and this message popped up.http://vpx.pl/i/2014/03/21/location.png

My pictures are still in the folder, the folders still exist, I can view the pictures, everything seems normal.
I'm scanning my computer with MalwareBytes just to be 100% sure (I will give an update on if it finds anything or not when it's done), but I want to know if any of you guys know what this error message means. Do you think it was a one-time thing? Did my mouse just bug out?
Thank you

Pinned items on the taskbar are stored in the hidden folder below instead.

Code:

Win7-64 Home Premium OEM on a little desktop system at my home.

When I rename file XXX, I get the message:

Item Not Found. XXX is no longer located in c:\...
Verify location and try again. Date created: xx-xx-xxxx

When I click "Try Again" the rename looks complete. But it causes numerous other problems.

I checked attributes on the folder, did a "take ownership", etc. UAC has been turned off for months.

This is evidently a known problem, possibly connected to KB980408. I haven't been able to positively track it down, focus on the exact problem and solution. I need to fix it ASAP.

Any help with this would be much appreciated. Someone has nailed it down?

Thx,

A:"Item Not Found ... Verify location and try again."

This is a problem caused by the deletion or moving of a file. It can be caused by clicking its shortcut to a previous location and it not actually be there anymore. Can you create a new file without moving it, and still be able to access it?

Basically, you cannot rename a file that the system cannot find, and it could be for numerous reasons that it cannot find it. What file are you renaming, a document?

My picture files are in C:\Users\username\My Pictures. I want to move them to my D: drive.

I know that this should be done via the "Location" tab in "My Pictures Properties". Unfortunately this "Location" tab is missing, the existing tabs are "General, Security, Previous Versions, Customize". For comparison, the "Location" tab does exist in other the user folders, e.g. also in "Public Pictures Properties".

I have studied & tried Brink's tutorials on Changing and Restoring User Folders' Default Location, implementing his "Restore_Default_My_Pictures_Location.reg" file. Even after several (4-5) restarts the "Location" tab won't show up.

When I right-click the "Pictures" button in the Start Menu and choose "Properties->Restore Defaults", I am offered "Public Pictures (C:\Users\Public)" in Library Locations. This doesn't seem right to me.

I badly want to get the "Location" tab back for "My Pictures Properties", so it works like the other user folders, but I don't know how.

Pls help me.

Cheers Uffe

I'm not sure about the location tab, but have you tried moving them using this context menu add on Context Menu - Add Copy To Folder and Move To Folder[2]=Context Menu, I use this everyday to move stuff around. You can choose exactly where you want to put them with these.
Or even the "send to" menu.

I have a new laptop, a Dell Precision M4400. The first thing I did was a format and a clean install with Windows 7 Ultimate. So far, so good, and it certainly seems to be an improvement over XP.

Being an oldtimer, I like to partition the hard drive and put all of the data folders onto the D: drive. It makes it easy to backup, and lets me reload the operating system without losing information.

Windows 7 lets you change the location of the user folders My Documents, My Music, My Pictures and My Videos. I used that feature to move all to the D: drive.

Since then, in Windows Explorer there folders that were moved are shown as multiples of the D: drive.

In Computer > Local Disk C: > Users > My Account >

the folders are listed as below:

AppData
Contacts
Desktop
Downloads
Favorites
Links
Saved Games

If, however, I click on my account shown under Desktop in the Explorer, the folders are:

AppData
Contacts

It's not a big deal, but it does seem a bit odd. The location option no longer appears when I right-click the moved folders, so it seems that their existence as those default folders is no longer valid, or it isn't possible to restore them to their original location.

I thought of deleting my account, and creating a new one but that seems a bit extreme as all other functions are good. The registry does show the My Documents, etc. as all being the D: drive, but e... Read more

Hi all!

I'm a newbie in this forum and am desperately seeking help for a problem I'm having with my Pictures folder. Please excuse the lack of technical jargon!

I know it's sounds really stupid and I'm sure it's a User Based Problem but I seem to have lost my original Pictures folder.

I've been going into the Pictures folder that had my pictures in it under my Personal folder, but am now trying to delete another Pictures folder that has cropped up. Everytime I delete the new one (that has heaps of dropdown folders off it) the original one stops working.

Now I've tried going into Properties\Location of the original folder and restoring the default location (because it's currently showing the location as C:\Users\Kai\Pictures\Pictures\Pictures). When I try to restore it to the default that comes up when I hit that button (C:\Users\Kai\Pictures) it comes up with the Move Folder warning, I hit Yes, then get a error that says "Can not redirect descendant into parent, the specified path is invalid".

I am on the verge of tearing my hair out, can someone please help me?????

Thank you in advance!!

KG

A:Can't restore default location for Pictures folder - PLEASE HELP!

It is true, you cannot move the descendant into the parent.

Try this change the location to C:\Users\Kai\TempHold and be sure and say yes to moving all the pictures.

When it is done, go back and change the location to C:\Users\Kai\Pictures, again be sure to indicate that you wish to move all the pictures.

Now, you probably will want to go back in to Pictures and get rid of those silly subfolders.

Does this help?

A:Which items to delete

I guess that I would have to wonder...why you start with Microsoft anything...when looking for removal suspects. I would do just the reverse...anything other than my Microsoft programs/functions would be fair game .

In any case...the NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5, SP1 entries...are all one package install. They should remain.

I have no idea what those sync entries refer to, since I don't sync anything and those are not critical updates.

I would leave the Visual Basic and XML installs alone.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.

Hi I hope someone can help me here.
I have an acer laptop with windows vista home premium on it. I tried encrypting a folder the other day, and i then went on to delete all the file in that folder using a shredder. The problem is that everytime I open the start bar and go to recent items the files i wanted deleted are still there.
I try deleting recent files using
"%AppData%......" and right clicking recent items and clearing list. However this just causes windows explorer to go wrong, then i lose all desktop items and have to shut computer down.
When I try opening the files through recent items windows explorer does exactly the same, thing is the files are gone but they remain on the list!

Can someone help me out please.

Best wishes

A:Cannot Delete Recent Items!!

This link should do it.

Have a friend here who thinks someone keeps getting her facebook password. She has Avast installed and it finds nothing. I installed AVG for her and found the following infection..

"C:\Users\Romii\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\7NYRCWR1\sclslqang240zcnyfeohfohz5[1].js

Malwarebytes also came up clean, but when I run Hijackthis and Analize it at Hijackthis.de it shows a lot of nasty infections. I?ve checked them all and clicked on "Fixed Checked" then scan again and they are still all there. Not sure how to rid the computer of all this, never ran into this problem before.

another thing to note is that she had a Babylon toolbar installed that seemed to be causing some problems. I was able to successfully remove the toolbar but its possible that some of the crap that hijackthis pulls up could be some remains of this toolbar. Anyway. any help would be great. Here is the Hijackthis log.

hi,

i runned some optimization programs on my vista system, and i think it changed something in the registry.

Now, when i delete an item from recent items list on startup menu (right click -> delete), it displays "are you sure you want to move this item to the recycle bin? ". by clicking "yes", it moves the corresponding shortcut of this item into recycle bin.

before i runned this optimation, when i delete an item from recent items list, there is no this delete confirmation dialog, and it removes this item from recent items list without moving the shortcut to recycle bin. (for regular file delete operations, it asks for this confirmation and move files to recycle bin as usual. the only difference is about the deletion on recent items list.)

is there a way to fix this problem? i don't want this delete confirmation dialog because i am only deleting a shortcut (not the exact file.)

thanks!

A:delete recent items

well i dont think that the confirmation shud trouble you that much, but of u still want to that, i can give you a method but it might not ask confirmation again for any deletion.
if u agree, i'll post how to later.

Also in my System Specs here on this Forum how can I find cooling, case, PSU & Internet Speed?

A:Exactly which items can I delete from Start Up?

Deleting items from the startup folder depends on what you may use. In theory, you could remove all of them without impacting Windows.

As for the services, that's something that you need to decide item by item. You've done it once already when you had enabled everything. Here's a link that could help you deciding the services that can be removed:

I installed Windows 7 on my PC. I did a fresh install, but besides the system disk, I have a few other hard drives installed, as well as some external USB hard drives.

By revealing the system files (on the windows explorer settings), I'm able to see the folder that is used to manage the recycle bin items on each partition ($RECYCLE.BIN). So far so good, but the problem is that within that folder there are two sub-folders with files.

One of those sub-folders is related to the W7 recycle bin and the other folder (who's content was acessible only after changing its permissions) has a considerable size (about 7GB of stuff that was deleted within the previous installed operating system - Vista).

If I try to access the content of that sub-folder that belonged to Vista, I'm redirected to the actual recycle bin. Nonetheless, if I try to access it on the command line, I can see the original files (with their filenames changed to shorter ones).

My question is: what is the easiest and most secure way to delete the old recycle bin content? Emptying the recycle bin doesn't work, because W7 ignores the old content (that is stored on the older sub-folder). I come up with one of two procedures: delete those files on the command line or delete the old sub-folder on Windows Explorer.

Any suggestions?

Spyware Detector finds the Winhound reg items but is unable to delete them. Ad-Aware 6.0 does not find these registry itemsl. I have copied the Hijack This Log file below. I was being redirected via Internet Explorer to About:Blank prior to spyware cleanup. I suspect this Winhound may be part of that problem. Spyware Detector says this is a Trojan program and rates the threat as HIGH however it does not give a description of this item.
