HiBroni has told me to post my issue here.Basically I can't run Defogger and DDS.scr so I am unable to post any logs, no program whatsoever is able to run or be installed, is there anything else I can do?My original post for more info:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic421879.html/page__p__2429653#entry2429653Pasting in information from that post. ~ OBI have a Windows 7 pc that refuses to run any .exe files and will not allow any programs to be installed.I managed to delete some trojans after running a live linux boot disc, plus GMER which suggested that a Rootkit was found, but the log for that was corrupted.I placed the infected drive in another pc and ran Malwarebytes which detected a further 30 odd files, and also tried Kaspersky's TDSSKiller which reported two suspicious files, one to do with a Fraps installer, the other I can't remember (Doh!). I also ran the Microsoft Safety Scanner and ESET online virus scanner both of which scanned over 500000 files and reported nothing suspiciousI then placed the drive back in to the pc, it boots fine but still won't run or install any programs. I have tried renaming files and changing file extensions. There are no error messages, when I double click a shortcut nothing at all happens, tried in safe mode and as administrator.I have also attempted to create a new user, but again there is no response when clicking create a new user.I can't get Hijackthis to run either.Any ideas as to what I could try next, before I do a format and long winded re-install?Many thanksPS the owner of this pc is a Minecraft and COD freak and is forever downloading extra maps and extensions and doesn't seem to worry about where they come from.. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I am running w98 on a home network of two computers. The computer connected to the DSL modem will not let me download the zip file I need to update my PC-Cillin 2002, nor will it let me download anything else.....the progress bar at the bottom of the screen just moves really slow and then it just freezes up. I have the Nov.16th update installed, I got it by using the second computer that accesses through the network card. Now I am unable to download anything thorugh that computer either. I also tried to download the start up program that was suggested in some other threads, but it won't let me either. I had the alevir.exe, brasil.exe, and macro.scr in regedit and sysedit, I deleted them manually,at the advice of on of the antivirus websites. I am at a loss as to what to do now. Can you help me?

Please read every bit of this, as I try to be as detailed as possible.This started about three days ago.First, the fake programs:Windows Antivirus ProAdvanced Virus RemoverSome red X in the system tray that displays "Your computer is infected! Windows has detected spyware infection!It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you." (Don't know if this is part of one of the above fake anti-spyware programs or its own).I've had one or two of them before. (Gotta love the obvious misspellings and grammatical errors).Secondly, the Task Manager is disabled.So I go ahead and try some virus programs. None of them can get a few seconds into the scan without terminating such as MBAM and SpyNoMore (from what SpyNoMore showed while scanning, I saw the file that disabled the task manager and "Advanced Virus Remover", so if I could somehow get that to do a complete scan, I'm pretty sure it could work.)I came across a program that did, however, do a complete scan. It was called A-Squared. When I began to quarantine the files, though, the window where it says there has been a fatal error and Windows must terminate with the countdown from 1:00 occurs. After that, If I boot up my computer again, explorer.exe is gone AND the task manager is disabled. So I had to boot it up in Safe Mode with Command Prompt. I am having a hard time staying on any web browser (firefox/ IE/ Safari) for any significant period of time in the last week. I keep getting the message of :Blank ( browser) encountered problems and will have to be shut down. I have tried uninstalling Firefox and IE7 but now I can't even reinstall it cause the I keep getting "file corrupted" when I try downloading the program again from the originator's site. I only have safari now and can't install any program cause it reads everything as corrupted. I have used the following programs to see if I can get rid of whatever is causing this problem. SUPERAntisoftware - I keep getting Adware.TrackingCookieSpybot- isn't working anymore...not loading anymoreMalwarebytes- doesn't show anything wrongThe computer has also been running slow and restarts by itself on occassion. I don't know what happened but it keeps getting worse by the minute. Please help...911!update:used Spybot tonight and was able to scan but I noticed the scanning exceeding the files (approx 10 thou) to almost 12 though. That has never happened before. I also noticed those extra files had Zlob on them. The funny thing is that Spybot couldn't find anything wrong. Not sure if this helps.

Machine run very slow periodically.
But Task Manager says things are ok.
Have run anti virus and anti spyware many, many times. Spyware results are minor issues.
Try to run certain games - Battlefield 2 and Battlefield Heroes are main culprits, and PunkBuster bombs out. (exact message is 'pnkbstrB.exe heartbeats stopped')

Have tried to run RootRepeal several times (6+ times, clean re-boot after each try) and it bombs out (internet disconnected, Windows firewall, McAfee, Ad-Aware are all disabled)
So I do not have the requested Ark.txt file

Was trying to run some Graphic Programs a few months ago for a short assignment and that seems to be the time that I started to have issues. Have un-installed all those programs.

I am trying to help a friend get his computer running. He claims he clicked on a video that said something like "wait till you see this..." the video started and then the screen went blank and the computer rebooted. After the reboot, nothing except Windows system apps work. We cannot run IE, Firefox, Malwarebytes, AVG, or any other scanner or internet type program. With Task Manager up, I can sometimes see the program start and then freeze and then go away. I see the same behavior in Safe Mode. I suspect something is running that is killing all apps other than windows system apps.

Note: all downloads are on another computer and transferred to the computer by a flash drive

What we have tried so far:
- downloaded all versions of the .exe registry update files, they all seem to run.
- downloaded all versions of rkill I could find. These do not seem to run at all.
- have tried System Restore to go back to a point prior to the problem
- in preparation for this i followed the instructions in the "Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Tools and ..." document. I was unable to run either dds.scr (did nothing) or gmer.exe (64 bit OS).

I have attached to jpg files of screen prints of the processes I see running in Task Manager.

This is a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS.

Something opened on my toolbar which I clicked to close it. My computer immediately restarted without my asking and I noticed an immediate slow down of my computer's speed. Once windows was loaded my Norton Antivirus would not load, I cannot run any usuable programs (such as hijackthis) or other anti-spywaremalware programs. Even if I had Malwarebytes I sincerly doubt that would run either. I've tried restarting in safe mode, but I could not get anything to run in that either. I don't get any error messages. After I try to run programs the computer sits for a moment and then does nothing. I am able to run windows explorer and internet explorer, but can't run firefox or chrome. I can play chess though... helpful for while i'm waiting for aid

Hello,Now that you have posted a log here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic355836.html you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. This PC is a Dell XPS 730, dual nVidia 9800gt, no active RAID, Soundblaster XFi card, 4GB. Recently I have had some issues with the PC including:CD autorun not working - fixed by stopping the PowerDVD startup.VERY slow bootup (15 minutes) - fixed by uninstalling Zonealarm (on two XP machines)And now I get an NVIDIA RAID SERVICE error when the PC starts even though I'm not using any RAID. I have read that this service can be disabled through msconfig but have not done so yet.The real problem is that when the PC fully boots I am unable to run any programs including the Windows Task Manager. Sometime I can quickly start an application if I do it before the PC is fully booted and before I get the NVIDIA RAID error but I'm not sure they're connected. I have the Task Manager running now. I can do things like open windows explorer though. If I attempt to run anything it seems to begin the startup process but never starts and quickly disappears from the task manager.

I am a pretty experienced virus fighter, but this one has me stumped.

I read the "read these before posting rules" and would love to include the logs that procedure requests, but I truly cannot run ANY programs on my computer. A fake windows security center virus has taken root on my windows 7 and absolutley any attempt to run ANY program gets a "this is infected" pop up. The internet is likewise shutdown. I've experienced this virus before but usually it just didn't allow the running of anti-virus programs. Now even Ctrl-alt-delete is blocked. Even Dr.Web Cure It's randomly named file is blocked. I attempted running the programs this site asks to create the logs, but they were blocked as well.

So, where do I go from here? How do I run the programs neccesary to either give you guys the logs or simply remove the program? I have no idea where to go from here.

After start up, i am unable to start most programs.
Most programs close immediately after i try to open them
The start menu doesn't allow me to select any options in it, as well as my desktop does not run any of the shortcuts on it.
I was able to open IE through forteManager(my monitor options program).
Opening and Closing windows in IE is extremely slow.

I ran hijack and it also responded extremely slowly, however i did manage to get this.

For a few days now, I am unable to run several programs, seemingly unrelated to each other.

Affected programs include the Mechwarrior Online beta, TEamspeak, Warhammer 40k:Space Marine, and others, none of which are related to each other. Furthermore, I no longer have access to certain folders, such as ProgramData under C://.

The programs launch, then immediately crash with no error message.
Operating system is windows XP, MBAM and Avast have both detected no problems on scans. This is the administrator account on the computer.

Hi there.

When trying to run certain programs whether it be games such as MapleStory, or IM programs such as MSN messenger I get the following error message box.

"The procedure entry point OsThunkD3dContextDestroyAll could not be located in the dynamic library d3d8thk.dll."

I'd be thankful and grateful for any possible solutions to this.

I'm windows Vista ultimate user, and yesterday I got a strange error that I tried so hard to fix it but I couldn't, I used Google search but I couldn't find any solution. I hope that someone here will help me to fix it, instead of formatting.
The problem is, some programs won't be installed, when I double click on them I get one of those two error messages:

ShellExecuteEx failed; code 1155
No application is associated with the specified file for this operation

or:

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.
Unable to elevate, error 1155

The programs are fine, I tried them before but now there's something wrong with my system, so would you please help me to fix my problem? step by step? Thanks a lot.

Do you get this error when you double click on any executable (.exe) files or just setup.exe? From your post it sounds like it is just installers. If so I would download and install the most current Windows Installer Package from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloadS/d...displaylang=en.

Hi. I downloaded some type of program that installed the ask toolbar and msa.exe I managed to delete the b.exe and msa.exe; however my machine is still acting up. I cannot install any program and my AVG is NOT picking up anything. Whenever I go to search the web in firefox in the google search bar websites come up when I click on the link I searched for (for example, I searched for Chipoltle and when I clicked on the link it went to some webpage that offered insurance...wtf).

I don;t want to install Norton, because I'm not confident that Norton will pick up and fix what is wrong. Can someone help me? Remember, I cannot install programs; otherwise I get an error box that says I do not have permission (but I do).

Ok, I broke down and ran Norton. It found a couple trojans and removed them; however my computer is still acting funny. I get an error when I try to execute any program. I want to run Spy Bot Search and Destroy to see if Norton missed any Malware or Spyware. The error message is a screen cap that is attached.

Yesterday, I downloaded Xpadder 5.3. The only way I can run programs is by right clicking, clicking "Run as..." and deselecting "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity." However, even doing this, I cannot run Internet Explorer and I have to use Google Chrome. Normally, when I am connected to the internet, I have four green bars. Now, these bars are blue. I have already tried System Restore to two different prior points in time, both of which did nothing. Is this a virus or something else? I appreciate any help.

Hey there,
 
just this morning I haven't been able to run or open programs unless I right click and run as administrator.  After doing a brief search around the web, it looks like this might be some sort of virus.  I've tried to download malware bytes and one other antivirus program and neither files will even begin to install.  For malware bytes, I get an "error creating window class" popup when I try to run the setup.  My computer also will not let me go to organize > search and folder options > view > unhide extensions.  In fact, it won't let me click the organize button at all.  Nothing happens when I try to click it.  Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I was finally able to find a way to show the extensions for programs.  In conclusion, I was able to change the extension and name for mbam.exe and am now running a scan.

Hi, Please can you be of assistance. I'm currently unable to update some programs IE: COMODO firewall, Spyware blaster, malwarebytes, trojan killer, basically anything i have on my PC thats need updating. Even spotify has stopped. If i uninstall the above and try any other anti ware IE spybot, Ad Aware etc the same thing happens. I read the preparation guide and attached the report. I have winxp and up until 2 days ago my computer worked fine. Now when I turn it on, I can't open any programs because it keeps saying Low Virtual Memory. I've increased the virtual memory and deleted everything possible but still am unable to open any programs. I've also done scans with Malwarebytes And Esnet Online Virus scan and all came back as clean. Please Someone Help Me fix this. I'm ready to throw the computer out the door.. Hi,
Unsure if this is in the right place! Apologies in advance.

Currently using Windows Vista.

If i try to run anything (Internet, games, any software) I get a blue screen for about 5 seconds and then my computer reboots.

All I've managed to gain from it is "driver irql not less or equal"

Have tried running MBAM in safe mode but it refuses to start.

This has only just come in the last 12 hours

Update: managed to run MBAM (have saved the log) and ie now works intermittently.

Whenever I'm uninstalling something it comes up saying it cannot find the installation .msi.
Could I solve this issue by downloading the set-up from the Internet again, or what?

Hi Joe

Yes sometimes it works if you reinstall then uninstall as a temporary fix, but that wont solve what the underlying issue is.

I downloaded a program last night called PC Doctor OnCall to try and find out what's wrong with my PC...we downloaded the prgram and istalled it, then ran the scan.

It told us that there were some problems with the PC but we would need to pay for the full utility for the PC Doctor for them to fix it.

I decided that I did not want to pay for it, so I went to Add/Remove Prgrams to deinstall it...which it seemed to do properly...but I noticed that the icon that it installed onto the Task Bar was still there!! I clicked on the icon and it SUCCESSFULLY launched the program!!!! I checked Add/Remove Prgrams again and it isn't on the list....neither is it in Program Files or on the Registry as far as we can see....BUT IT'S STILL WORKING!!!!

I'm desperate to get rid of this prgram...it is annoying the hell out of me because it keeps popping up with an annoying alram sound and a window saying it's found another problem!!

So far it has found 32 problems...and keeps finding more....quite amazing for a program that i have DEINSTALLED!!!!

Hey guys! I got a problem here. No program on my computer will open..not itunes, micorsoft office, nothing. I have a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Home edition. I'm pretty sure i have a virus unfortunately . I'm not sure why nothing will open. When i click on Word or itunes to open it, a message pops up saying" this file does not have a program assocaited with it for perfomring this action. Problem started earlier tonight. I clicked accept or okay on something that I think was a Windows Update (Honestly, at this point, I'm unsure of what it is I really clicked. I know that's stupid of me to click accept or ok on something I wasn't paying attention to, but it's too late now.) and my computer completely restarted. When it came back up, I attempted to get back on Skype, Windows Live Messenger, and Mozilla Firefox. None of them would open. I clicked on the icons as well as the links in my start menu. Although, on the start menus, it showed as if I was still signed into those programs. My mouse pointer on the screen gave me a little circle as if it were loading, but nothing happened. Suddenly, I got a blue screen with something that said "Crash" and "Dump" in it. I panicked. When it finally restarted my computer again, I still cannot access any programs, including my anti virus. I can get into Pain, My Documents, and such, but nothing else really.

I tried restoring to three days before, but the problem followed me. It didn't help at all.
I also tried Safe Mode, nothing would work there either.

I am using a separate computer to access this website.

I am using Windows 7

Please help?!?

It looks like you may have a virus
You need to get into MSCONFIG as soon as you are able to to disable everything in startup and services (leave microsoft services running) and restart the PC and see if it is still slow
Once started with check in MSCONFIG to see what programs start and look for unusual programs, they sometimes have letters and numbers in the name

I just received a new laptop about 2-3 weeks ago, and things have been working great up until yesterday. Usually I am at my mother's house, but I was staying at my dad's for the weekend so I took the computer with me. When I turned it on, I noticed that my facial recognition program hadn't started (the place where it usually is was blank). I didn't think much of it until the computer finished loading everything; I tried to open Google Chrome and it wasn't opening. I tried to open all my desktop icons and that didn't work either. The computer did not give me any error messages. The programs were not in the task manager, not even in the processes list. At first I tried running the system file checker, and it was not able to fix anything. After that, I booted in safe mode and tried to open them and it worked. I logged off and restarted in normal mode and everything was fine. But today, I restarted and I wasn't able to open anything again. So I tried what I did yesterday and it worked. So basically I have to boot in safe mode then in normal mode for anything to work.

Automatic download of internet explorer 7 occurred last night. The computer restarted and then nothing could be accessed. Not yahoo messenger or mail. nothing from the start button, all the programs come up but will not open. I can access mail through Firefox.
I shut the computer down and this am, I tried to uninstall 7 and it stops on the Running process before Firefox. Then the computer freezes. I don't have a clue what I am doing.

Iím unable to run almost all of the programs on my laptop. I get the following error message:

ďThis file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panelĒ

I can open some programs, such as WORD or Publisher if I click on a saved document. But these programs do not open if I click on the taskbar, desktop icon, or program startup icon.

I cannot open or run System Restore, even in safe mode. It will start in safe mode, but once it gets to the point in the process where it reboots the computer I get a message that the computer is unable to open rstu.exe (or whatever the system restore file is called).

Iím running XP. Hereís what Iíve tried so far:

∑ Virus scan: clean
∑ Ad-Aware Pro SE scan: clean
∑ Re-set folder associations to default in Control Panel Folder Options
∑ Reinstall MS Office
∑ MS Knowledge base

Iím out of ideas. Any suggestions on what to do besides wipe out the hard drive and do a clean reinstall of Windows XP and start from scratch?

I am having trouble installing new programs. The error message is "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permission to access item". I have administrator privileges, try to install as administrator. I checked the security under properties and checked off Run as Administrator. I can't relate it to anything that I have installed. The only thing new is Windows Update and I haven't checked the reasons for the updates. I may try system restore.

Open a CMD prompt as administrator (go to start all programs accessories and right click on command prompt select "run as administrator") at the prompt type:-

I have gone through the uninstall process on my computer to try to uninstall Optimizer Pro v3.0 and RegCleanPro.  I get a message that will not allow me to uninstall these programs.

I've never really seen anything like this, I can't open any programs except Mozilla.

Scanned the comp last night (AVG, Avast, etc) and it came up with one Trojan Virus...today I turned on the comp and I can't open any programs.
Everything gives me the error message "Windows cannot find C:/Program Files/..." Also I tried to download new virus scanners, since I can't open AVG I figured I might be able to scan and get the virus with a new one, but it gives me an error message about having to open something else, and that it may be a malicious program.

I've been looking everywhere for anyone with my same problem, after a few hours I decided to check here.

Kind of annoying since I bought a new iPod yesterday and I can't get it up and running!

Here goes my first post... about 2 weeks ago I got BOMBARDED with viruses / spyware. Through forums like this, I was able to get rid of anything showing up on Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot S&D, Scan Spyware, Spyware Blaster, Spyware Sweeper, Scan Spyware, Spy Hunter, and Microsoft Antispyware (Beta version) - (okay, I was desperate so I tried just about everything...) ANYWAY, when I run everything now, I show clean, BUT now I can't update anything. I'm wondering if there are "remnants" that have disabled something. Here are the exact problems I'm having:

1. I CAN connect to the internet using IE, but I CAN'T connect using Netscape. I uninstalled Netscape and tried to re-install (I've tried both full download and download from site), but it gets 1/2 way through the process and says it can't download the files needed to complete the install and aborts.

2. When I try to update Windows XP SP2 (which is the OS I'm using), it goes through "all the motions" then tells me that it couldn't update properly (failure). I had some problems with the .NET Framework, so I uninstalled and re-installed that hoping that would take care of the problem. It may have solved my .net problem, but didn't resolve any other issues I'm having.

Hi Tech support,

I am having trouble with my laptop. I bought a reconditioned Fujitsu Siemens laptop about three days ago, it's a Vista machine which I've never had before and since yesterday it has been refusing to install anything on the system. I can download the files but when it comes to actually running the installer nothing happens.

I've tried downloading the files to desktop or somewhere visual but the icon will flash up momentarily once the download has finished then disappear completely.

Please can you help with this problem as it's preventing me from downloading and receiving any of my e mail attachments for work and since I bought this because my new job has me on the move all over the place it is going to be completely useless unless I can get this sorted.

A:Unable to install any programs

Please do the following:

1 - note the time on the system clock
2 - attempt to install a program (any program will do)
3 - check in the Event Viewer to see if there are any messages relating to the attempt at installation. Under the Windows logs, check both the Application log file and the System log file (use the time that you noted in Step 1 to narrow down the amount of stuff that you've gotta search through).

Also, in the View menu, enable the "Show Analytic and Debug logs"
Then open the Applications and Services logs...Microsoft...Windows...Diagnostics-Performance logs.
Check these logs for errors (in most systems only the Operational log will be Enabled. The Diagnostic and Diagnostic-Loopback logs can be Enabled (by right clicking) if you want to.

What happens if you rename the installer from .exe to .cmd - and then try to install it?

Medion 1.6Ghz. Plenty of room. Windows XP SP2, AOL. Avast AV, Zone Alarm firewall. XP firewall turned off. Since 2nd Feb I have been unable to download any programs. But some updates e.g. Vcom Fixit seem to work. There are no error messages, the download screen looks normal apart from there being not download speed or anticipated time to download. The pages fly but nothing happens. Eventually I just cancel.
Restore points before the date have failed. Reinstalling SP2 did not help. Uninstalled recent installs around that time (e.g. Skype) to no effect. I have even tried using other ISPs with all firewalls and AV tuirned off. IE is the browser.

many of my desktop Icons have become shortcut files and no longer open the programs. I tried to set the correct program to open it as default but all my desktop Icons change to this same program. Now I try to open those icons but they won't open. What do I do?

I have recently purchased a PC with XP and Microsoft Works Suite Pre-Installed.

However, I now want to install Office XP as well as other new software. Unfortunately, whenever I insert the CD, it autoruns and invites me to install the software.

All goes well until it asked for the software key. At this point the installation program closes down without and errors. Sometimes I am able to type a few charactors in, other times it closes down as soon as the dialigue box appears.

Once it closed down, displaying the Windows Task Manager also suggests that the installtion program is not running.

Any ideas?

Hi everyone. I need some help ASAP!I have been unable to get ANY windows updates, Defender pro 2009 anti virus updates, or Malwarebytes updates. I think I definitely have some kind of viral issue because not only am I not able to get updates, I also can not access the websites themselves to do any form of manual updates. I also am in some case being redirected to random web pages when I do a google search. My compute also seems to be running slower....When I go into my virus update I get a "Error 403", When I go to update Malwarebytes I get a "Error 732"... When I try to manually download microsoft updates I get to the download page and click "download" I am redirected to a "Page not found" error. UPDATE; I was able to find a manual update for the most current data base for Malwarebytes and am in the process of scanning right now. I will include the results as soon as the process completes.Also I am running windows XP and I have a Wireless connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Below is my Hijackthis log file.
