UK date format in Windows 7 RC

Q: UK date format in Windows 7 RC

I live in the UK and want to use the day-month-year format in displaying the date.

In Control Panel, Region and Language, Additional Settings, I've changed my Location and Keyboard, and set my date format to 'd.MMM.yy' (short) and 'dd MMMM yyyy' (long). In the W7 betas, this gave me a day-month-year format in all programs.

In the RC, I get the format I want in the notification area, Windows Explorer and Directory Opus, but my other shareware programs (e.g. Macro Express and Clipmate) display American date format in their listings. I installed them in Compatibility Mode.*

Does anyone know a fix for this? - in the registry, maybe?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just to clarify, does this mean the date within these programs appears in the American format, or (say) in the Programs and Features 'Installed On' column?

If it's the former, I think the only way to make the changes is in the options for those shareware programs, rather than in Win 7.

Greetings, and thanks in advance for your help..

Awhile back I formatted my Windows 10 PCs to show ddd dd-mmm-yyyy on my taskbar clock. This worked happily on my desktop and laptop for months, maybe even a year +

Now (probably starting in the past couple days, if not today), on one of those two PC's, this format will no longer display. It is Okay on the other PC.
What has changed that the taskbar clock space used to expand to fit the "short date" format, but now it will no longer expand - and instead just refuses to display the date at all. (NOTE: I've verified the issue by testing shorter formats -- short formats, like "ddd" show up correctly. Only if you request a longer format will the date not display - evidently because it is too long for the clock area. )

Additional Notes that may help:

* "Working" pc is running build 10586 PC with too small a clock space that won't expand -- Build 14393

*Other differences: Notification/Action center Icon is left of clock on the working PC - Right of clock on the non-working
Right- Clicking on task bar gives "properties" option on working PC -- But "Settings" option on the non-working

( I don't want to prejudice responses - but clearly the implication to me is that some recent OS update is most likely the culprit.)

Thank You

Hi! Does anyone know what is the format of the date in the field "(battery) Manufacture Date" informed by Lenovo Vantage (Hardware Configuration > Energy)? It seems not to follow Windows setting. In my case, it is set to Brazilian Portuguese DD/MM/YYYY, but there is not a leading "0" in the returned value (see attached image). Does it really disregard the Windows setting and presents it in a fixed format (maybe American English)? When was my battery manufactured (Oct. 07 or July 10)?Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I'm new to Windows 7 (Home Premium 32-bit) and I just can't figure out what's going on here! Basically I want my short date format to be dd/mm/yyyy (UK format) e.g. 05/11/2010, but when I key a date into Excel 2002 it is appearing as 05 11 2010. In Control Panel I have the short date format set to ddd dd/MM/yyyy and the example is shown as Fri 05/11/2010, but in Excel all the date formats are shown with space separators, e.g. 14 03 2001! I don't think it's an Excel problem though as in Windows Task Scheduler the dates are shown with spaces there e.g. '19:25 on Mon 01 11 2010'. The date by the clock though is shown correctly with slash separators!

I know in Windows XP you can select the date separator from a drop-down list, but this option seems to be absent in Windows 7. Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International in the registry, sDate was set to a space, but changing that to a slash (and rebooting) didn't fix the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas please what's wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks
Steven

Hi,

The option you're after is controlled from within Excel. If you right-click the cell(s) in question you can select 'format cells' and under 'Date' you can select the desired format.

A:Date format using space as date separator rather than forward slash!

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the post!

When you set the Short date to ddd dd/MM/yyyy, the date by the clock is shown with slash, however, the date in Task Scheduler doesn’t show the slash. This behavior
is by design. When you double click the time and the trigger tab (for example) in task scheduler, the details are shown with slash.

When you change the Short date to dd/MM/yy, the date in the Task Scheduler and the clock become the same.

For the Excel date problems, I recommend you ask this question in

I know, there are lots of threads/info out there on the topic, but none (that I've found) have addressed my problem.

I'm simply trying to figure out how to display the time and date on my taskbar, without the day of the week. I don't want my taskbar 3 "levels" high in order to see the date. Why can't I just drag it over so its wider rather than taller? Sorry I'm frustrated, hopefully there is a way to do this, but Windows sure doesn't make it easy.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I am setting up a spreadsheet for the year and want to use it year over year. I have the cell set up with the date (1/1/2011) with a format of d so that it displays the date as Sat, 1/2/2011 - Sun, etc. Since I want to use this year after year with minimal work and I want to highlight the cells that are equal to Sat and Sun, how would I set up that formula. I tried the basic =A1="Sat" and without quotes but it just returns #NAME. I know working with dates in formulas is different but can't figure out what I need to use.

There seems to be a bug in Windows 7 (as well as 8, from what I'm told) which causes the long date to be displayed with the day of the week all in lower case, such as "monday". I don't know what a "monday" is, the word does not exist either in my English dictionary or in my annotations of the grammar lessons I took back in primary school, as a child.

How can I fix this bug so that days of the week are displayed in their grammatically correct and proper form, such as "Monday" (the first letter being capitalized) ?

Thank you very much if you can help.

I have piece of code in C# to change the system date and time format through registry. And the code is working fine in Win 8.1 and other OS version but not in Win 7 version. I try to do it manually into the registry by changing the below values but still
the format is not reflected in the Date and Time.
Also I noticed that when I change the format manually in the Short Time in the "Region And Language" it doesnot change in the Date and Time shown in task bar , but its working fine when I change it for Long Time format manually.
Is it because of any User level permissions required or anything settings to be enabled/disabled to change these values?.

RegistryKey rkey = Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey(@"Control Panel\International", true);
rkey.SetValue("sShortDate", "dd/MM/yyyy");
rkey.SetValue("sShortTime", "HH:mm");
rkey.SetValue("sTimeFormat", "HH:mm");
rkey.Close();

I recently built a new pc and I am using Windows 7. I work with a large number of jpg files. Most of the time I rename these files by using a date format such as 2010.11.08. I have noticed that when I use the date format in Windows 7--such as: 2010.11.08-- and hit the "enter" key the files are renamed: 2010.11 (1) etc and NOT the complete date (2010.11.08 (1) ---if I use a date format such as 2010-11-08 OR if I rename the files 2010.11.08 a I don't have that problem. This problem only happens when I rename a group of jpg files (more than one)?it does not happen if I rename only one file. I never had this kind of problem when I was using XP?Is Windows 7 different in this respect????

I have exhausted my FAQ files and have not been able to get an answer to this question.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A:[SOLVED] Windows 7-renaming groups of jpg files with date format 2010.11.09

At a guess - it is interpreting the last part of the date format (eg .08) as a file extension. However when you go to rename just one it ignores the extension.

Go to Start -> type Folder Options press enter -> go to View tab -> scroll down and untick the box beside "Hide extensions for known file types"

Then go back to the folder with the pictures in it and you may be able to see where the missing part of the file name has gone.

I was searching for a way to enter dates such that they are interpreted in the US (not UK) date format, i.e. mm/dd/yy not dd/mm/yy. It was unresolved in this closed thread http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/910502-us-uk-date-format-excel.html
Since I've solved it, I'd like to share the simple solutrion with interested parties:

1. Close all Office applications.
2. Open Control Panel>Clock, Language, and Region>Region and Language>Change the date, time, or number format.
3. Under Formats, use the drop down to select "English (United States)".
4. Then close and open Excel. From this point on entering 7/1/11 will give you 1 July 2011, and not 7 January 2011.

Don't forget change it back afterwards (unless of course you're moving to the US

You can also format the cells to your needs

Use the custom format
dd/mm/jjjj;@
mm/dd/jjjj;@

The ;@ forces the date to that format, you enter the date as you normally do so if it's Brittish dd/mm/yyyy and it will change to mm/dd/yyyy if the format is set to mm/dd/jjjj;@

What has to be clear for the use tis that he she has to enter the date as he knows ir should be

If they are used to entering day month year they will have to do that even though the format says different.

because February 1 2011 entered as 1/2/2011 will become 2/1/2011 in mm/dd/jjjj;@ format.

I hope I have been able to explain it,
The advantage is that you don't need to rememebr that you changed you country settings

I just installed a split database on a non-profit organization's computer. In a table that contains date fields, I had set the date format to "m/d/yy" when defining the table fields on my computer. When I subsequently designed the input forms for the table, the dates show correctly in that format.

But when I installed the database on the client's computer, the dates show in "m/d/yyyy" format. I thought it might be because that computer's Regional Date Options were set to that format. However, I just experimented on my computer, changing the Regional Date format to "m/d/yyyy", then opening the database to see if the Regional format overrode the format defined in the table. It does not.

So. . . any idea why despite the date format being defined in the table as "m/d/yy" that on the client's computer, it displays as "m/d/yyyy"?

I have not found a solutions which worked, datevalue returned #value etc. The basic problem is if your system date is not according to the date format in your text date column. So if you have set it to ISO, starting with the year, datevalue will not work etc.
This procedure worked fianally:

If the date format is like '12/31/2011 (US Format)
1. Change date format in CtrlPanel Regional & Language Option to the corresponding format, in this case mm/dd/yyyy
2. Select column with dates
3. Format Cells General.
Dates will change to Datevalue 40908 (Nbr of days since 01/01/1900)
4. Format Custom i.e. ISO Format yyyy/mm/dd (which really should be used everywhere)
5. Voila 2011/12/31
6. Change date Format in CtrPanel back to your Format

Hope I'm not repeating something that has already been covered in this forum only my search didn't reveal that?

A:Change Display Date Format WLM

All the date formats in the "R & L Options" drop-down boxes include the year, so I don't understand which WLM boxes were not showing the year or how it could be fixed by making another "R & L Options" choice that also included the year.

I am perplexed. I have an Excel spreadsheet that contains 3 columns with dates. However when I see the spreadsheet the values do not appear as dates but as decimals - for example 39302.4652777778 . However, when I click and look in the formula bar - the date appears formatted correctly - 8/8/2007 11:10:00 AM. I tried to format the columns, pasting values in a new columns and even re-entering a date itself and still get the decimal even though the formula cell indicate that it is indeed a date. Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance

I have a column that I would like to change from text to date in Access. The dates are in one column and look like this: 5/20/04-0-6/20/04. When I try to change the format to the d/m/yy style, Access deletes all my date rows. Is it possible to have a date appear in one column as a time interval?

A:Date Interval Format in Access

bigceedee,

I stand to be corrected, but my answer is no. You can only have one date in a date field. The only way I can think to get round this is shown in my attached sample.

Using Windows 8 Pro (RTM)
Seems like the calendar app does not obey the language settings.
W8 display language is English (US I think) and that is the way I want it even if I want day names and time format as choosen in language settings.

Hints ?

A:Calendar app time/date format

Hi eager2008. Welcome to the forum.

Right click the app -> Uninstall

Reboot.

Open Store (tile) -> Mouse curser to upper right (Charms menu for store app slides out) -> Find (magnifying glass) -> type calendar. It will bring up the app to install again.

Please let us know if that works or not. Good luck.
