Can I remove the fade effect between the login screen and the desktop?

Q: Can I remove the fade effect between the login screen and the desktop?

I've wanted to do this for a while, but I can't seem to find any information about it on Google. From what I understand, there are no settings to do this (e.g. by disabling visual effects) and it would require the modification of some system file. I'm alright with doing this, but I don't know which file it is I need to modify. Any help would be great.

Preferred Solution: Can I remove the fade effect between the login screen and the desktop?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

A PC is using the "fade-in" effect for the start menu and I wanted to get rid of that, so I followed the instructions on that page: http://www.theeldergeek.com/eliminate_fade_effect_in_xp_menus.htm

It worked just fine, but only works for the currently logged in user. As soon as I switch accounts on the same machine, the problem comes back.

I made some research but couldn't find a solution, does anyone know if it's possible at all to disable the start menu fade-in effect for all (current and future) users at once, in other words change the default setting?

If it's not possible, I guess I'll have to resort to some startup script that quietly runs that registry tweak for every user that logs on, but this is less than ideal.

Thanks a lot in advance for the help!

A:Remove start menu fade effect for all users

It would be fairly easy to do with the Group Policy Editor.

Click Start > Run > type gpedit.msc

Expand:

User Configuration > Windows Settings > Scripts (Logon/Logoff) > Logon

Write a simple batch file for your registry tweak and add it to Logon (for local computer).

However, I fail to see the use for such a tweak for the Start Menu??? I've just tried it after rebooting and it doesn't change much.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) for the last 1 year now and it has been working great. I recently noticed that the feature Desktop Slide Show is not working properly anymore. It used to use fade effect when switching between images, but its no
longer happening. I thought that theme got corrupt or something, so I deleted it and created a new one, but still no effect. I am not sure since when it's not working, may be a few days or months, but it came to my notice when I was comparing Windows 7 features

Although it's not much of a big deal, but still it's something which is not working and I am not one of the guys who will let anything stay non functional for long, so could anyone please help me here.

On my new machine and my old machine this irritating setting turns itself on when I click a hyperlink in an access database. I have to go to the display properties on my desktop and turn it off.
I've checked my other software and the fade effect is not turned on.
This is especially aggravating because it leaves tracks when I minimize tools in my CAD program.
What causes this?
How do I get it to stop?

Hi,

I'm looking for a solution to this annoying little problem which has been avoiding me for months.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit addition. All of my performance settings are permanently set to have the full Aero effects and my accessibility settings are set to ensure they are all running.

My laptop has a windows experience index of 3.3 and normally has no problem running the graphical effects.

But...this is the problem. Every time I start up the laptop the Aero window fade effect and the minimising effect doesn't happen. The screen remains in Aero style and as far as I can tell these are the only effects that are stopped. In order to reactivate the Aero style I have to go to the System Properties window>Peformance settings and switch the radio button from the 'adjust for best appearance' option to either one of the other two available and switch it back again. I don't even need to click apply - but once I click okay the effects are all back to normal.

There are two other things that I've noticed: When I start Windows, just before all of the background programmes have finished loading, the fade effect is working. It appears as if one of the start up progams is disabling it. However I've uninstalled and reinstalled each one in turn to see which one is causing the problem and so far there's no change. I currently have Dropbox, Onenote 2010, and Avast anti-virus running in the background
I have run a netbook and another laptop on Windows 7 Ult... Read more

Hi, I have a problem with my IBM T43 (OS: WindowsXP SP3), when I expanded the Windows START, expand menus on other application (e.g. Outlook, IE, office, etc), they are appearing in slow motion (like the "fade in" animation in Powerpoint).
Most likely all windows based application is affected.

Facts:
1. My HDD is not full (19,3GB free space) and I have 2GB RAM
2. No error message / warning message
3. The error is occurred only when I do the expanding, the overall system is running fast (e.g. Run application, alt-tab, open new window, etc)
4. I started to experience this after I had reinstalled my Windows, so I assume there might be the video drivers, CMIIW.

I had tried to do these following actions with no luck:
1. Update the video adapter drivers with the oldest till the latest driver I found in IBM official page (I was running Windows in safe mode while updating the video driver)
2. Replace my HDD with another HDD
3. Reinstall Windows (XP SP2, SP3)

Do you have any suggestions how to fix this issues?
Thanks beforehand.

So, okay,

I have unchecked all of the "Turn off all unnecessary animations (when possible)" in the Ease of Access Center as well as checked all settings under the "Visual Effects" tab in the "Performance Options" and I still am left with images that just snap to one another rather than fade.

My PC should have absolutely ZERO problem managing this function. I have an I7-3770k processor, 8gb of ram, and an NVidia GTX 780.

Is there another setting that I am missing? Please inform.

Thank you very much!

A:Windows 7 Wallpaper Fade Effect is not working.

Welcome to Seven Forums Puddson.

Usually the ease of access, or the Animate controls and elements inside windows setting in performance is the issue.

Try this, navigate to C:\Users\(Your user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\

Delete the TranscodedWallpaper.jpg and rename slideshow.ini to slideshow.ini.bak

I've been building and programing a loooong time but have never found a problem I couldn't solve one way or another.
This one however has me baffled.
I built a computer for my wife (has to be my wifes of course) this last April.
I entered the specs when I registered.
What happens is when on a program like say Quickbooks or on the internet or even on office, the screen will go to desktop while she's in the middle of typing.Like it would if the screensaver was coming on from inactivity. She moves the mouse and the place she was pops right back up. It does NOT happen at any timed interval.
I made sure I have the latest drivers and firmware installed. I set power options to never shut down or sleep. I swapped memory, video card and power supply. Still does it.
Can anyone here give me a hint as whats going on??? An unhappy wife is an unhappy life.
Thanks, George

Hi,

Next i should be able to see the login screen, however this is a blank black screen, the mouse is visible and i can move it around the screen, but i cant see anything to log into the desktop.

I dont know why this has happened, it was working last night. The only thing i can think of was my brother switched the power off as it was shutting down. The shut down had automatic updates running (i think) at the time the power switches were turned off.

How do i solve this so i can see the login screen and get into my pc?

I have changed my login screen background picture using Windows 10 Login Screen Changer (available at the MyDigitalLife forums). Unfortunately, the option to Disable User Account picture won't work for me, so I had to delete all the copies of my account pic in the 'UserAccountPictures' folder, so that my login background image doesn't show my account pic.
This also removes the account pic from the top of my Start menu, my User Account Profile, and online at all Microsoft sites.

There MUST be a way to enable an account picture everywhere EXCEPT on the login screen ...? I'm not adverse to editing the registry, or changing system files, if need be. Hi,

Right out of the blue, windows 8 loaded up painfully slow so i restarted my HP g6 laptop.
After restarting the laptop the user login screen appeared fine fine but as soon as i login the metro tile screen flashes to a default coloured desktop screen and back to to the metro screen every second. It is continous and you can't access anything as the screen jumps to the other one before you can even do anything!
My laptop is only a few months old and there has been no hardware change/upgrade.
I managed to get into the system restore and restored to a point a few days before this issue started but, when the laptop restarted, the issue remain and the screen jumped between the 2 screens.
There are no error msgs or any can of beeps that appear. There was nothing of any note that happened prior to this issue occurring and the laptop worked fine until this issue.
Tried searching google & forums regarding this issue but it doesn't seem to be a well known issue at all.

Has anyone got any idea why this is happening? Hardware or software issue? Windows 8 error or bug?
Anyone got any potential solutions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Menu Search box and press Enter.
Double click to expand "Network adaptors".
Right click your network card and click Uninstall.
Check "Delete driver software for this device" check box, click OK.
Restart the computer
If windows does not auto configure the appropriate drivers at startup, install the downloaded one manually.
Apparently you dont have an antivirus installed?
Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download and install those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.
Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following tools, too.
Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller
Windows Defender Offline
The dumps says it it is memory corruption.

Hi,

My Toshiba Satellite A305 recently started blue screening out of nowhere (it is about 4 years old). It does it when I start up my computer. Sometimes it does it at the login screen, but if I login quickly enough it will do it while I am on my desktop. I am getting a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA blue screen. Will let me run computer in Safe Mode/Safe Mode With Networking. Please let me know how/if I can fix this. Files attached.

Norton tends to cause BSOD-s and several other issues. I would recommend uninstalling it with the Norton Removal Tool and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials To Test.

In addition, run the malicious software removal tool and WDO:Malicious Software Removal Tool

Had a problem with an error message regarding cm106.cpl, once I clicked ok it all ran okay, then was advised to check for corrupt files as it seems to be an audio file but computer did not find corrupt file to reinstall from \syswow64 - so decided to use msconfig.exe and checked start up programs and then disabled cm106sound from starting at beginning.
It did sort the problem for start up, but now after computer starts up this icon on desktop load and then they all fade away and then restore themselves and computer works fine.
Running windows7 64bit that has been updated to Professional with a key card that I purchased, somebody suggested I should put in original disk and type in "repair your pc" is this correct information and will this work if I use my original Premium Home Edition and would I have to reinstall the Professional upgrade key.
Is there any other way I can rectify this problem without having to boot from original cd

I am running xp. Lately when I move the cursor to the start button and try to go to any one of the menus, like my docs, my computer, recent docs or control panel, sometimes the all programs menu comes up without hovering on the all programs. When going to the all programs, most of the time I don't even have to hover on all programs, just run the cursor up across the menu and it will come up. Is there and easier way to correct this without a reinstall? Thanks Gordon. I have 1.3 with 632 ram,80 gig hard drive.

This should be an easy problem to solve, but I have been unable to figure it out...

On the windows login screen, right below my login name, there is a little note that says how many new mail messages I have- This however was set up by my ex-boyfriend under his hotmail account. I'd like to change it to one of my accounts if possible, (I primarily use a university based webmail account), and if I can't change it to anything but hotmail or msn then I would like to remove it.

I haven't been able to figure out where to find this setting.

Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.

-Alex
