YOGA 710 14-IKB - Battery drains too fast and charges too slow

Q: YOGA 710 14-IKB - Battery drains too fast and charges too slow

Hi, The battery of my YOGA 710 14-IKB drains too fast and charges too slow. This pretty much happened over night. One night I charged the laptop to 100% and the next morning it was down to ~60% (and yes, I turned off the laptop). Additionally, the battery icon doesn't show the correct percentage or the estimated time to fully charge the laptop. I'm using the laptop the same way I've always been with all the apps and windows open. Hope you guys can give me some tips.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a HP stream x360, and it is having battery problems. First of all, it drains even when I shut it down completely. I shut it down with approximately 90% battery and about a day later it wont turn on. So I go to charge it, which leads to my second problem. It charges insanely slow. It has been plugged in for 12 hours, and when I press power, the button lights up for 5 seconds and then turns off. It isn't a kink in the wire because I store it properly, and it is unravelled when charging. It isn't the outlet because ai have moved 3 times, which means totally different outlets, but all with the same charge speed; SLOW. Finally, it is actually fully plugged into the computer because the little red light IS on, indicating it is charging. So what do I do? What is wrong? I can't take out a battery because it is internal. And currently, I cannot do anything with the computer because it is still dead, and it has a habit of taking 2 days to charge. About. Please help. I got it about 9 months ago. It isn't even a year old.

Hello All, I have been having some trouble with my battery on my new laptop (which I got less than 6 months ago). It is an HP Envy 15t touchscreen, and the battery doesn't last for more than about 2 hours. I've tried some basic fixes, like decreasing brightness, but that hasn't really helped. I've also noticed that the fan runs pretty loudly for long periods of time (I just timed it, for example, and it was making loud noises for 15-20 minutes straight). Finally, recently the laptop will freeze for a couple of minutes (it will usually freeze when the fan starts running). Like I said, this is a relatively new laptop, and I don't use it all that much (maybe a couple hours of browsing a day, and a few hours of streaming over the course of a week) so I'm not sure why its having this problem. When I first got the laptop, I was getting about 6 hours without charge. Now, for example, it dropped from 100% to 84% in about a 20 minute span. Any help on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Battery drains fast on new laptop

Measure, measure, measure. If the fan is speeding-up, it's because the motherboard has detected "excessive" temperatures, and has increased the fan-speed to try to cool the computer. What causes those temperatures?  Basically, the CPU is working "hard", and generating extra heat. Use the Windows "Task Manager" and/or "Process Monitor" to see which tasks are consuming the CPU.

My battery drains from 100% to zero in about a week when powered off. A tech, in a chat session, said this was normal, and that HP batteries are expected to drain from 100% to zero in 5 or 6 days when powered off. That can't be right. A lithium-ion battery should lose about 10% charge per MONTH (http://www.batteryeducation.com/2012/10/battery-self-discharge-rates.html). But according to the tech it loses 15 to 20% charge PER DAY. What is HP's expected self-discharge rate for a laptop battery when the laptop is powered off? The "battery test" in the HP diagnostics said my battery was healthy. But I don't think it is. I want to know at what rate a fully charged battery should lose its charge when the machine is powered off so I can tell if my battery is defective. Thanks!

First thing is to check your poswer settings and be sure that when you are on batteries that it is using the battery power sceme. And second, that that sceme has reduced clock and brightness settings, conservative disk settings etc like it should. (You should visibly notice that when you plug in and unplug the power supply that the screen brightens and dims at minimum...)

My new L460 purchased just last month drains too fast, and charges too fast. Even when shut down from the Start Menu, it loses ~20% in 12 hours. However, Lenovo Settings sees the battery condition as "good". I'm thinking of doing a Battery Gauge Reset, but I read in other forums that this procedure can damage the Li-Ion battery. Has anyone had a similar problem? How did you solve it?

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga 900 (Intel Core i7-6560U 3.2 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10) and have been experiencing the following issue since I purchased it: I put the laptop in sleep mode and into my laptop bag. The laptop will wake up by itself later despite the lid is closed. It then stays on as it's inside the laptop bag it gets very hot and drains the battery. Since this has happened closer to 10 times already I'm worried if the battery life is already damaged due to heating. Normally when I close the lid the laptop goes onto sleep mode.  I have already taken many measures to try and stop it from waking up from this article (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/stop-windows-computer-randomly-waking/). I have set the power setting so that it should always go on sleep mode when the lid is closed. I don't understand how it goes on even when the lid is closed.  What could be the problem? Thanks in advance!

I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery?  Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. I would like to know more about it in order to sustain my laptop at least for a year.

Ever since yesterday I've had this problem, I tried several solutions and none of them worked. Basically the problem is: The laptop only works on battery now. When the battery is at 0% the laptop turns off even if the AC is plugged in. To make matters worse, when the laptop is on I get this message "plugged, not charging". So basically the AC no longer works by itself and only charges the battery when the laptop is off. Here is what I tried so far:- Changing the settings on the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool- Uninstalling the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool - Taking off the battery and AC, pushing the power button for 30 seconds, putting them back in and turning on the laptop.- Starting the laptop on safe mode- Praying to God None of these things worked. Somebody help.

Hello. I have a 3yr old Toshiba Satellite laptop that I use every day, on avg. 8 hrs per day for school. The battery used to last about 2.5 hours without needing charging. In the past couple weeks, it only seems to last about an hour before needing to be charged.

Even more troublesome is its action when the charge is gone. I have set the power settings to pop up a notification message at 22% battery level and take no action, then at 10% battery level, pop up another message THEN go in to hibernate. However, last week it would give me only about 20 seconds' notice of a critical battery level, then it would hibernate. It wouldn't give me any notice before the critical level.

Now, it has taken to just hibernating, with no warning notice whatsoever. I could keep it plugged in all the time, but my concern is there's something more at issue that will get worse over time. I don't need any crashes at finals time.

Any suggestions? Could the battery need replacing? Thanks.

I've an Inspiron 15 7560, it's just just 3 months old. The design capacity of the battery in this thing is 41,998 mWh but windows batteryreport and hwmonitor are showing a full charge capacity of 39,079 mWh. That's 7% less. But the strange thing is that batteryreport as well as hwmonitor show a charge level of 107% when the laptop is full charged. And that's not on one occasion, every full charge is shown as 107%.. The thing that's even more strange is that according to battery capacity history of powercfg batteryreport that drop in capacity happened just around the time I changed the battery charge setting from "Adaptive" to "Primarily AC Use" in Dell Power Manager Lite. What's happening here?

The lowering of the threshold is what is intended.

A:Battery life drains quickly!

Most likely your battery might not bre charging fully due to the A/C adaptor plug may be loose and or the connection on your board is loose (common problem with laptops). Another thought is that over a period of time laptop batteries get weaker due to their nature. It may be best to take your computer to the shop and let an expert technician look into this. Really doesn't cost an awful lot...If you are handy you may be able to check this out yourself but sometimes laptop cases are a little difficult to open (without damaging)...I know from experience (cracked my Sony Vaio case when trying to attempt fixing the very same issue)...

Is it normal for a Thinkpad T470 to drain battery after it has been shut down completely? I first observed this after not using the notebook for about a week. After switching it back on, the external battery had lost more than 10% charge, while the internal battery's value hadn't changed. Curiously, while using the notebook, this behavior is reversed, i.e. the internal battery is discharged first. Things I tried so far: Disabled Wake-on-LANDisabled USB chargeDisabled Thunderbolt deviceDisabled the fingerprint readerDisabled Fast BootDisabled all wake events and timersChanged power planPerformed a full shutdown via shutdown -sUpdated BIOS and Embedded Controller to latest version availableResetting Windows to factory defaults I also ejected the external battery and disabled the internal battery before shutting down to make sure that they don't discharge by themselves. However, no drain occurred under this condition. Effectively, none of these options have helped. The external battery still loses approximately 2% charge every 24 hours.

I have owned a Spectre x2 12 myself and then I purchased one for my wife. I also recommended this system to my uncle who bought one. I must say that I have been happy with the performance and build quality of these units. However, there is one glaring issue with them that HP seems to be totally ignoring and in my opinion it is a deal breaker. I have since sold mine and am looking to do the same with my wife's system. I have recommended to my Uncle that he should do the same thing. What is this one glaring problem? The system discharges the battery even when the system is completely turned off. We have tried all the recommended things on all the HP and 3rd party forums to fix the issue but nothing has worked. We have tried everything from turning off fast boot and USB charging in Bios, to updating the Bios and all the drivers, to making sure no WiFi dongles are connected to the device when turned off, and even separating the keyboard from the device when it is turned off. Nothing has solved the problem. On one forum for an HP spectre x360 there was a fix offered which allowed the user to update the M.2 hard drive bios which fixed the problem the same problem for those systems but no such fix is offered by HP for the Spectre x2 12. I suspect that this system along with many other HP systems are suffering from the same issue of the M.2 not completely shutting down when the device is turned off which allows it to slowly discharge the battery. Hello all let me start with the technical details of my laptop: Lenovo Carbon X1Bought ~2 months ago (new) at a reseller in the USi5 3rd generation @ 1.7GHz4GB DDR3 (soldered on motherboard)128GB SSD (Samsung), must be SATA III (6GB/s) I guessWindows 8 Pro x64 Furthermore:+40GB free space on the hard driveOriginal charger used, alwaysLaptop was never 'opened' (ie with screws)device mainly used to text editing, browsing and PhotoshopBackground apps/services: Apple iTunes services, Dropbox, Lenovo mouse/trackpad service and startup utilities like Google Update, Java update, Adobe Reader SpeedlaunchI do not shut down my laptop most of the times, I simply put my computer in sleep modus (in other words: I close the lid of the laptop)I do play games on this laptop, but of course I do not expect the battery to last many hours when doing so. My Dell XPS battery charges only to 99%. Technical support said this is a "normal" occurrence if you have "adaptive" charging on in the BIOS. They asked me to update the BIOS and then change it to "custom" charging. The battery now charges to 100%.
Is this normal behaviour or just a messy "fix"? I just want to confirm if this is a papered over fault, because I suspect that it is. Personally I am not too pleased with having to call Dell technical support on the day I opened my new laptop!

My battery never charges above 10% and is at 0% or close to 0 most of the time.  Desktop is always plugged in, the power supply diagnostic test passed.  Originally was plugged in to a UPS/surge protector, tried plugging directly into an outlet, does not appear to have changed anything.  The computer has shut down a few times even though it is plugged in - it does start right back up.
