HELP!!! Windows Media Player & Urge blocked access to my music files and real player

Q: HELP!!! Windows Media Player & Urge blocked access to my music files and real player

Hi: I was trying to record from a radio station a recording of someone I know who has written a music piece and by mistake I saw urge and downloaded the program. When I realized I did not want this program, I deleted it. There was a message not to do it--that it would block other users from logging onto the computer (Which is a violation of the anti-trust laws) however, I did not listen and deleted the entire program from the program files. Now I cannot get any music from the radio site and it has blocked real player. MSN should be sued again.HELP!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Our music files are in Real Jukebox. How can we put them into Windows Media Player? We tried drop and drag, but this doesn't change the type.

A:Real Player Files transferred to Windows Media Player

Depending on the file the might not work
unless you talking about converting them

If you can play them on media player

Highlight the File
hold down the shift key
And Right Click

Now use open with
The goto media player
and check the always use box
If you always want to use it to open
this file if it opens this file.

There is another way

I captured an AVI file from my DVD player using my video card. My Real Player and Windows Media Player won't place this DVD clip. Someone said I need codecs.
1. what are they?
2. where to get them?
3. how to use that to convert the file to some other format?
4. what formats do Real Player and Windows Media Player support?
4a. Is there another downloadable DVD player that will play the AVI file as is?
5. I also tried to burn this AVI file using Nero but when I tried to drag the file to the proper place, I encountered problems. What could be the issue here?
6. I have been told in another forum that my CD burner can burn a DVD file on DVD media if the format is proper. What format is needed? Is this another codec issue? (Nero says it needs AVI and that is what my file is).

Had a lot of trouble after installing Microsoft's DirectX 7a. Could not use DirectDraw, Direct 3D, or any media players: all would result in a page fault (Kernel32.dll @0137:bff7297c).

After over 30 days of troubleshooting, we isolated the conflict to the Vision 95 which has an option of being or not being installed along with the STB Velocity (Virge VX) 3D drivers.

However, BEWARE OF DIRECTX 7a and especially WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER!~ I shout because ya need to [email protected]

Windows MEdia Player seems to me to be programmed to seek out any and all other media players (ie. Real Player 7), and mess them up big time. I have a 465 Kb .mpg file. It used to play on Real player BEFORE i put Direct X 7a in. Now, it plays 2.4 seconds of the mpg and quits. Also, a .mov, although it plays in entirety, the sound is ABSOLUTELY RAUCIOUS at all volume settings.

INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, both the mpg and mov play REALLY WELL in Windows Media Player.

I did a Add/Remove on Windows Media Player 6.4, and Real Player started having colored lines appearing in the video.

I did a manual uninstall of WMP (delete msdxm.ocx).

No improvement in Real Player.

Deleted Real Player, defrag/scandisk'ed, rebooted, clean install of RP 7, check out the mpg or mov: NO IMPROVEMENT.

DId a find on anything "mediaplayer2" or Windows Media Player, and deleted.

I am running Windows 7 with the latest version of WMP 12. Everything runs properly, including use of the music library for playing tracks, burning, ripping, and syncing, except if any editing is done to the file metadata.

Occasionally I will purchase some music from Amazon which is in the form of several separate single mp3 tracks by the same artist. They will play fine as they are, but I would prefer to have them together as one 'album'. So I edit the metadata to include the same album name tag for each track. After saving this, the tracks all appear in the library as one album, which is just as I intended. The problem is when WMP is opened again, after closing it or shutting down the computer, all the tracks have disappeared from the library and WMP refuses to recognise them again. If I delete the tracks and copy them back into the same place again they appear perfectly fine in the library until WMP is closed. Then they disappear on running it again.

I have checked all the tags, comparing them with other music tracks that are recognised and I can see nothing wrong. I have checked all the sharing permissions for the folder in case anything was changed there and I have indexed the folder and run a search to 'let Windows know it's there'.

The unrecognised music tracks are in a folder which is included in the library, alongside all the other tracks that play ok, and I have used 'Apply media information changes' from the 'organize'... Read more

A:Windows Media Player not recognising music files

Try rebuilding the WMP library to see if that helps.

I would also check the tags on the Mp3 files with Mp3tag to see if the data is accurate.

I used to play all my mp3 files via Windows Media Player. Those were the good ol' Napster days. Then came Bearshare, for which I downloaded Real Player Basic, and since then it seems, I can't get any audio out of Windows Media Player anymore. It seems to be doing its job and all that happy stuff, you know: opening media libraries, playing mp3 files... only: no audio. Real Player's doing fine, but even my old Napster mp3 files from Napster - heck, even the Bearshare files that work with Real Player! - get zero audio when played in Windows Media. So I figured it's some sort of conflict, you know? That stuff happens. So being the resourceful guy that I am, I tried uninstalling Real Player, (Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs...) but you know what? It's not working. I get a pop up window ("Are you absolutely SURE you wanna lose all yer Real Player stuff? Yes/No" I do "Yes", I get another pop up job ("Uninstalling Real Player") but that's it. You know the blue horizontal bar you get that informs you of how far into the process you are? It doesn't even show up. At this point, nothing goes further. Ctrl/Alt/Delete tells me "Uninstalling Real Player Not Responding". It does that every time. What I want to do is be able to use Windows Media Player again, because I find it more practical than Real Player, only it serves me diddly to have an application running that won't give me the audio it&#... Got a new computer at work (Dell Optiplex 760 w 3.25 GB RAM - running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3). When I try to play my music files (originally downloaded from purchased CD's on my old computer) on this new computer through Windows Media Player the sound is stuttering. Randomly. My IT dept. can't figure it out. I was running WMP v. 9 and today I updated to v. 11. It doesn't matter. Still stuttering. I have little Bose desktop speakers. When I go into the control panel on my computer and click on the "sounds and audio devices" icon it says SoundMax HD Audio. I'm assuming that's the sound card? The music files are local on my hard drive. It's driving me crazy....and I'm not a sophisticated computer user. Help. Thank you.

Please help. This is my first post and I am not the most computer savy person, so please if my edicit is wrong or more info is need just let me know.

I have a GatewayGT5662 with Windows Vista and Windows Media Player 11. I use it to listen to music or watch downloaded movies or what not. I also use it to stream my digital media to my PS3 to listen to or watch in my living room. Then one day it just doesn't play my music files any more!! It still plays all video files just fine, but any time I try to play a music file it says:

An audio codec is needed to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help.

I have the CCCP codec pack installed on my computer and have never had any troubles, I updated that pack and tried installing the klite pack as well but those don't seem to help. I really don't think it is a codec problem. Most of my music on my computer is from c.d.s though I have some that are downloads. Itunes plays my music library just fine, but won't stream to the PS3. Most of the music files are MP3's.

I have just bought on-line, will only transfer music files with Windows Media Player 10.   The instructions for the music player, Samsung YP-Z5, says that you can only transfer files to the player when Windows Media Player 10 is installed on the pc, which you have to instal with the installation CD.  I have Windows Media Player 11 and Media Monkey on my pc, that I use for my other music player and Windows Media Player 12 and Media Monkey on my laptop.  Does that mean that the version 11, I have on my pc will be rolled back to 10 then? isn't that going to mess up my music.  I don't understand why it is an older version of Windows Media Player as I can't use it on my laptop. A:How do I add music files from external drive to media player library using windows 7?

This information should do the trick. You will basically take possession of the entire drive all at once instead of files\folders on at a time.I realize it says XP in the title but it should work for Win7 too.

I saved songs from a legally owned music CD on to Real Player version

I thought I had saved them in a new play-list I created but they saved instead under the topic Music in Real Player.

I tried then right-clicking on each song and moving it to the new play-list I created but they wouldn't move to that new play-list.

Is there any way to move each song from Music to the new play-list?

Thank you kindly.

A:Real Player - Moving music files to play-list

A play list is simply a list of shortcuts pointing to the actual tracks they represent (same principle as Desktop shortcuts).

You therefore do not (and cannot) put the actual song files in the playlist location.

Again, it's done this before. And it will start working again out of the blue. I've done everything i can think of, uninstalling all the media players, defragging, running antivirus and antispywares, and reinstalling. Doesn't work. Then I will get a random popup saying my computer has recovered from a serious error dealing with my video card. So i guess that that might be the problem but I'm clueless on how to fix it. Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of organising a playlist of music videos for my works Christmas Party. This year I want to do something really special in the form of streaming the music videos from one (host) computer to several (guest) computers using VLC Media Player.

Here is a link to the method that I am using to Stream music videos -

I have decided on the HTTP method of streaming because this appears to be relatively simple to setup, and effective for reaching multiple clients.

However immediately I have noticed a number of caveats -

1). Media doesn't always play at the same time on all clients. I would like all music videos to play in sync (ignoring potential network 'lag' issues)

2). VLC gets stuck with the Playlist of music videos that I have created; it plays the first music video on each of the clients, but once the first music video comes to an end VLC stops playing altogether.

* In some instances it just stops, and provides no on screen messages
** In other instances it pops up a box which I have come to believe is related to missing codecs (even though the 'server' and all 'clients' have exactly the same codec packs installed).

I am looking for some tips on the optimum way to stream music videos (in a variety of formats, e.g.: avi, flv, mpg, mpeg). Ideally I need to setup several hours of music videos and just hit the 'play button&... Read more

Are the songs listed in your playlist the ones that you tried to delete? Is the playlist an older one, created before you deleted the music?

You said you tried to delete a bunch of music. Did it actually delete?

If the songs were deleted WMP cannot find it in the location it was in when you created the playlist.

Example: If the music was originally in Folder A and you created a playlist/imported music to WMP from Folder A, they would play.

If you delete the music from Folder A (or move it to another folder) WMP is still pointing to Folder A but cannot play what is not there.

If your music is still in the folder I don't know what to tell you.

Recently I re-installed XP(probably didn't have to, but that's another story). I finally got my internet connection back and have re-installed my audio files. When I tried to start Musicmatch, I would be prompted that currently there was no music folder. After I "clicked' yes to that, the MM music would come up for a second or 2, as would the MM logo, then everything just quit and nothing. I finally uninstalled MM and re-downloaded it. Now when I try to start it, I get nothing.

I can run my music on Win Media Player, but can't run an entire song without a prompt that Media Player has experienced a problem(of course, when you click that promt, MMP disappears). It also won't play MS format music files.

I also can't get Real One to come up - after about 5 seconds of booting up, I get a prompt that it's encountered an error.

I also can't get Quick Time to come up...I get an "error 2093 message - make sure it's installed in your system."

Again, everything ran fine before reinstalling WXP(from the D drive?). Is there some common driver or something for all these media programs that I might be missing?

If real player and windows media player do the same thing which one is better?

A:Real Player Or Window Media Player

RealPlayer can play most of the formats that WMP can, plus some of it's own (ie formats created by the RealPlayer developer) which WMP can't play.

However, although RealPlayer plays more formats and you need it for some websites which stream audi/video content only in RealPlayer's native formats, It can be somewhat of annoyance when it's installed -- always popping up nag-screens to buy the 'pro' version etc. Something which WMP never does.

In essence, if you want all video and audio formats covered, you need them both. My policy is to manage with Windows Media Player. I just avoid using websites with video/audio content that need RealPlayer.

Is real player the same thing as windows media player? If they are the same thing which one is better?

A:real player or window media player?

Real Player (aka Real Obnoxious) is not the same as Windows Media Player. There are certain files that will only play on Real Player and certain Files that will only play on Windows Media Player.

If you are going to install Real Player I suggest that you print out the instructions here;

refer to the instructions when installing Real Player. Although these instructions are not for the current Real Player version there is still enough in the instructions as what to disable, to keep Real Player usable, but stop it from bugging you all the time.

Okay, I am a real newbie at this itunes/ipod music stuff. My daughters have over 1,200 songs in my computer, so a friend transferred them to an external hard drive but for some reason they were copied in the vlc media player. Now they [my daughters] cannot access them to put them on their new ipods. Now I know that media player songs can be converted to itunes...but can vlc? I figure if I can get vlc to go back into media player then I can convert it to itunes.... (I hope!) Of course, the more direct route would be to convert it to itunes and skip the middle man (media player). I would hate to think that I would have to recopy each of these songs. BTW: I did click on the "play in itunes" but it wouldn't play there or in media player. In itunes I got nothing...in media player, I got an error message about not locating the file. This is so very confusing to me so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to TSG Kcop!

Sometimes the designer of the site will specify that it will use the WMP rather than RP. In that case there isn't much you can do about it.

If you have a program that will play on either and you want RP to be your default, then:

Left click on the file once
Press and hold the SHIFT key while right-clicking on it.

Select "Open With" from the list.
Select Real Player from the list.
Check the little box that says "always use this program" when opeing this type of file.
Good luck!

Do a search for converters. There are a lot of them, but not free. Everyone says that "Super" is a great (free) converter, but I haven't tried it and don't know if it handles .ram, .rm, or other Real formats.

I was trying to play one of my DVDs on my laptop yesterday and I got this pop up that said
"Windows Media has encountered a problem and need to close. We are sorry for the inconveniences"
I was like WTF ?? !! So I tried opening it with Real Player and got the same answer. I removed and re-installed Windows Media player but that didn't help either.

Following is the error signature after the error message:

AppName: realplay.exe AppVer: ModName: quartz.dll
ModVer: 6.5.2600.2749 Offset: 0003fa8eproblem and we need to close.

The only thing I can think of that may have contributed to this is that couple days ago, I was removing some programs via "Add or Remove programs" to clean up some disk space. I may have deleted some software/programs that have to do with being able to play movies using either Windows or Real player.

I am able to play my MP3s on Real Player and Windows Media so it definitely has to do with DVD part and that's why I'm pretty sure that I deleted something that I shouldn't have that day.

I called Dell and they ran a hardware check on my laptop just so they could say that "there was nothing wrong with your computer - it's your software and we can't help you." They kindly offered $129/hour or $239(or something like that) per year for call-service with Dell's paid technitian support ppl. I told them to get out of here and that I couldn't afford that as a grad student. (ri... Read more

My computer used to play music CDs, but now won't. When I try, I get a message saying "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the CODEC that was used to compress the file." These are commercially produced CDs, and they'll play on my car player. WMP will play other verbal audio recordings I've made, but won't play copies I've made of commercial CDs.

I've uninstalled a number of programs, and wonder if I might have deleted a file that was a shared file.
When I click on the Web Help button of the message, it just takes me to a general Windows 7 screen.

How can I find out if I'm missing the codec, and if so, how to find out what it is so I can download it?
I have an HP Pavillion Elite computer with Windows 7/64 Home Premium.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows Media Player won't play music CDs

I would suggest you run the Microsoft fixit and check.
Fix Windows Media Player video, and other media or library issues

Next try, System Restore, go back to a time before you uninstalled those programs.

Windows Media Player 11 - share my songs?

Can you tell me how to share the music on my main pc with a laptop that is networked to it please.
Went to - Library - media sharing But could not see the laptop (although it is visible in Network places)
Should I be doing something else?
Also do I have to add all the music files to the laptop? As a large folder Or can I just click on the links??

A:Windows Media Player 11 and sharing my music

Why don't you try sharing the files on the network. If your computer is networked properly then they should show up in network places. Right click the file, then click on the sharing tab and click share on network. (These instructions might be wrong as im not booted in windows right now.) If they are all in the same directory, i.e. My Music, then you can just click play all when you navigate to the folder in My Network Places. Alternatively you could select the files you want right click them and click play with windows media player.
