Can you change the balance output on a specific audio jack output with Dell Audio?

Q: Can you change the balance output on a specific audio jack output with Dell Audio?

Hello,My problem is this: I have an old set of speakers such that the left speaker eventually stopped working.
Upon taking it apart, turns out the wire was just pulled away from the solder to the pins.I replaced the wire and it was good as new.
After a few months of use, (once in a while use) the left speaker "stopped" workingI later discovered that it still works, but is very very quiet.Such that, I have to set the right speaker balance to 9% and left to 100% to get the same volume from both speakers.I took it apart today, re-glued the wires back to the pins, no difference.
So I am wondering, with Dell Audio client, and my Dell xps 8700, which has a front and back 3.5mm audio jacks, can I set the balance to the front port to be my 100/9 for the speakers, and 100/100 for the back which connects to my headphones?
I took a look in the audio client, but it looks like no such option exists.Do I go looking for a new set of speakers or is there an easy option here?

Preferred Solution: Can you change the balance output on a specific audio jack output with Dell Audio?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can you change the balance output on a specific audio jack output with Dell Audio?

I believe both jacks are controlled and connected to the same ports and software so directing one to do one thing and another to do something different isn't possible as far as I know. Maybe someone will have a different answer, but I don't think Dell's software is advanced enough.

Well my jack is broken since a few months so no joy for me... I hate it now when I can't listen to my music on my 14 speakers in my room. (NO KIDDING LOL) And today I was thinking about... HDMI... Audio?! Yes, but - I don't want to cut my only one hdmi cable which my parents use. So, I thought maybe my USB 2.0 port can emit audio, I have some spare USB cables lying to throw out, could I make it possible to connect a 3.5mm jack with the USB to the white and green cables? (USB pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru) I don't care if it will be mono sound or stereo, I just want sound in my speakers again
Also I don't know If I had to post this in the Hardware & Devices section but I personally think this question fits better here.

P.S.: I think I'll need some software.. if yes: I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits SP1 on a Acer Aspire 5742G Intel i3 370m 2.4ghz , 4 gb ddr3 ram, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5470 512 M GDDR3, 2 free usb ports on the right side, 1 for the mouse on the left, HDMI Ethernet and VGA on the left side (+ power source adapter which also was broken but I've fixed it).

Btw, I don't want to(Well.... Can't) spent any $$$ on any adaptors now...

Well else I will have to get the screwdriver, openup the laptop and connect some wires to the laptop speaker... But that's the last thing I want to do. If nothing else will help.

I had the same problem and it bugged me for a long time. The solution I found worked for me was to go to Control Panel and open it. Then go to the top right hand corner and click on ?View by:?Choose from the drop down menu ?small icons?. You should now see a list of options. Look for an icon that has a headset on it. Run your arrow over it and you should see the program name ?SmartAudio?.  Click on the icon and it will open with two separate windows on your left. One window will have a microphone icon and volume control, the other a speaker and volume control. Plug in your headphone and the top icon (speaker) should change to a headphone icon. You can now adjust the volume and you will (hopefully) find the headphones work. When you unplug the headphones the speaker icon will return. Hope this helped.

I have this flat screen tv that I bought not too long ago. I would like to connect headphones to this tv to watch regular television but there is one big problem. It does not have a headphone jack nor audio rca(red/white) outputs. This pretty strange since this is a fairy new tv. Is there any way I can connect headphones to this tv? Would I need any adapters like somehow converting one of the audio rca inputs to an output so I can use this cable:

... i just erased my question when i realized it can be resolved if there's a media player out there that can play silverlight and change the audio output (like vlc, but vlc doesn't support silverlight).
(edit:... my kid watches either youtube or netflix through monitors (speakers), i'd like to run everything else through my headphones, using the routing mixer program totalmix that comes with my rme babyface.   what would be really handy would be a browser that allows you to change the audio output of the different tabs, let alone the browser itself, which NONE do, after extensive research.  how hard is it.   ... or if flash or silverlight allowed different audio outputs.   it seems such a basic simple function that every other program ever created has built into it, except for browsers, which is probably the most used type of program in the world.)

A:specific browser audio output question

That would take a ot of extra programming within the audio function of the browser and the plugin such as Silverlight and Flash. It is not feasible.

I recently installed a Kinivo Bluetooth adapter (BTD-400) on my HP G71-340US laptop (Windows 7 64-bit OS).  Although the bluetooth adapter works as expected, my headphones don?t get any audio output when plugged into the laptop jack.  I checked the Manage Audio Devices / Sound / Playback panel and the ?Independent Headphones? (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) are in working order.  In fact, the Headphones can be seen changing status on the Playback panel when I plug in or remove the headphone connection.  So the hardware seems to be working fine just like before. I ran the Microsoft Troubleshooting tool and it did find an issue with the Independent Headphones but was unable to automatically fix it.  The problem was identified as: Audio device isn't set as default.  However, the "Independent Headphones" are listed as the "Default Communications Device" on the Playback tab. I?m not sure what I need to do next to resolve this issue.  Please advise. Thanks.Jeff

Okay this has been bugging me for a while. I've been wanting to separate my audio jacks into different devices, for example have music playing from my speakers but not my headset and instead have teamspeak coming through my headset but not my speakers. All of my audio jacks fall under the 1 device, "speakers" but I want something like speakers but also headphones where my speakers are just my rear panel ports and my headphones are my front port. I hope the screen shots help a bit. I know you can have usb headphones, is there a way to associate this front port with a usb audio device or something? :/

A:All output audio jack falling under one device

You can only have one default audio playback device. Thus what you want doesn't look doable.

Hello everyone,

I want to know if you can run an audio output and input at the same time to record to my HDD with the built in Win7 SoundRecorder?

I have been trying to record (unsuccessfully) streaming Sirius internet radio using my JRivers MC v17, and while it will record, the resultant file will not play, either with MC or WMP. And the file size is always 4kb, no matter how long i record for.

So i found Audacity software which will let you do this:

Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows - Audacity Manual

(scroll down to the Loopback cable section)
But i want to know if you can do it with the installed SoundRecorder. Now I should say that i will be using the output from my Audioquest Dragonfly DAC, which is installed via a USB port, not the lime green output. I will unplug my powered Mackie monitors and hook up a small 3.5mm patch cable.

Any help would be appreciated!!

A:Can you use the audio output and input jack at the same time?

You have RealTek PC audio. Have the "Stereo Mix" set as the default recording device and you will be able to directly record streaming audio with Audacity. Nothing else is needed.

You can probably do it with all the extra equipment, but its not needed and can really get in the way for recording streaming internet audio.

I have Goldwave and use that for the same thing, but Audacity will record from the Stereo Mix so that's all you need.

A:Realtek Audio Jack Output Assignment Troubleshooting

1. I see you have the "High Definition Audio" as the device type. That suggests that you do not have the RealTek sound driver installed. Instead just the basic function Microsoft/Windows sound driver.

I have RealTek and I have a RealTek HD Audio Manager that will allow SOME (not all) jack assignment changes.

You can only have one default audio playback device and if I understand you correctly, you can't have different devices for different outputs. You can have "Stereo" (2 channel) or 2.1 speaker system that is connected to the Green speaker jack. OR you could have a 5.1 speaker system with the the THREE connections to the PC. But, you can't have one jack for one device or speaker system and another for a different speaker system.

Hi there,

I have an Asus G 50vt, a few days ago I had it hooked up to a stereo system and tripped on the wire connected to the Audio jack. The Headphone jack now has half of the head stuck inside and I was unable to remove it.

I am wondering if there is a way to reassign the headphone output to the Line in or Mic in jacks?
Any help would be appreciated

A:Changing Audio Jack output (from headphone to Mic in/line in)

I know you can do that, I have seen it with some creative programs, im not too sure if your asus will do that, but I think the easiest option is to get that headphone jack out. you'd be surprised how easy it can be once you open your laptop up. another option (i would think - but try last) would be to get some super glue (only a little bit) and try to stick something to that headphone output to pull it out. - i was about to suggest soldering something, but dont worry about that, small amount of superglue might be the way to go alternatively buying an external sound card might be an option $20US

Hey guys, I just had this happen to me and I am very frustrated. Nothing like this has ever happened before, so I don't know how to go about fixing it. I love listening to music and watching videos on my laptop, but a few days ago, everything started to sound like total crap. I realized that it's because nothing had any bass to it anymore. I've tried plugging in various headphones and speakers, but they all have the same problem. Note that all of these headphones and speakers work perfectly when plugged into other devices/computers.

I used this YouTube video to test my audio and I could not hear anything below 80Hz.

Things I tried...

1. Checking with multiple headphones and speakers

Check the configuration of the Beats Audio. It is an "enhancement" to the basic PC sound. I don't have Beats so I can't say what all it does, but I suspect there are different music settings and an equalizer in it. Beats is known for boosting bass, so another reason to check the Beats configuration.

I am one of those unfortunate souls with a laptop that has a single jack both for audio output and microphone input. When I plug a lapel mic into it, the computer doesn't even notice it's there, and keeps making me use its crummy internal mic. So I have a headset that runs audio through a 3.5mm cable and gets power from the USB, but the audio is coming through the USB instead of the 3.5mm and sounding terrible. How would I change this from outputting through USB and instead have it through the 3.5.

A:How do I change the output audio from USB to 3.5mm

Very little info to go on. No system specs, etc.

However, a general suggestion would be to check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Playback panel. If the "speakers" are not set as the default playback device, set it as the default and that usually will fix your problem.

However, with the headset you apparently have, you may have to do this everytime you plug it in.

Hi guys,

I'm having a little problem with my onboard audio, having just installed Windows 7. I have an Asus B85M-G motherboard, which includes a "Realtek? ALC887 High Definition Audio CODEC" onboard.
I have installed the latest realtek drivers; R2.79 from the official website.

Now, here's my problem: when I was using Windows 7 on this same machine, I could plug headphones in the front panel connector, as well as speakers in the green back panel connector. This would give me two audio outputs in the Realtek Audio manager, which was pretty practical and enabled me to output different applications through the speakers or the headphones.

Now, however, there's only one output, irrelevant of whether or not I have two outputs plugged in at my computer.
so, I tried change setting to used 2nd output function, but I don't find "Playback Device -> Make front and rear output devices palyback two different audio streams simultaneously" Tab in the option.(ver 7001~Last version)(see 2nd picture)

I want a visible the check tab(3rd picture)

If clean uninstall (sorry don't know how to for Realtek) and fresh re-install does not work, try an older version instead of R2.79 - latest is not always the best especially with older hard and software. I know guru3d has them in their download section.

Hi Everyone, Has anyone else encountered this problem where plugging in some speakers, or headphones into the audio jack does not change where sound is coming from if the application is already open? So for example, I'm listening to music on iTunes or Youtube through the laptop's speakers, then if I plug in my earphones, it does not automatically change output to my earphones. The computer recognises that my earphones are in, and changes the volume controls to be for my earphones, but sound still comes out of my laptop speakers. I've already tried setting the headphones as default on the playback settings. The only way to change it that I have found is I have to exit the application and then open it up again. But this problem will persist if I want to unplug my earphones and change back to laptop speakers, I have to close and open the application again. It may be a Windows 10 issue, but if anyone has a solution to this problem that would be great. Thanks,Sean

A:Plugging In Headphones does not change output of audio

Hi @SpurCarnage?,  Thank you for your query. I grasp that if you are listening to  music and connect your headset the sound comes from both the notebook and the headset. You have set the headset as the default playback device.  If you close the music program and open it with the headset attached then you only have sound in the headset, but if you disconnect the headsets you do not get sound from the speakers.Although you have sound, please try the steps in the followind link. HP Notebook PCs - No Sound from Speakers (Windows 10, 8) Have you checked for viruses and malware? Please let me know the outcome. Thank you  for participating in the HP Forums! Hi all,

I've been hunting around, but, basically, I don't know exactly what to even search for. Here's my setup: I have my PC hooked up to a standard monitor and computer speakers. I also have a digital audio out running to my receiver and a VGA hooked up to my LCD TV. Whenever I want to throw on a video for the kids, I have to go into sound properties, set digital out as my default audio, hit "OK" then go over to "Screen Resolution" after right-clicking on the desktop, setting the "Multiple Displays" to "Extend these Displays" hit OK then OK.

It may not sound like a ton of work each time, but I do it really often and I'd really like to automate it to one or two clicks. I was looking at ways to do it w/ VB Express, but couldn't figure out how to control video/audio settings. Any suggestions?

you can click on the source of the article to get more information

this will deal with the audio part

then use this script that i wrote to deal with switching the video

place the scripts in your startup folder if you want them to launch at startup.

Hey everyone.

Currently I'm using the Realtek on-board sound chip on my ASRock P67 Pro3 Sandy-Bridge generation board, plus I have connected a second screen (TV really) via HDMI to the nVidia GTX 670 graphics card.

A recent change in circumstances has required me to add another (wireless) device, which is mainly needed for the output of spoken language. For that reason I decided to buy an affordable Bluetooth soundbar with an integrated microphone, because the technology is both wireless and the quality of the speakers is hardly of importance for the required task.

I got the device paired successfully and the Bluetooth speakers are available to be chosen as an extra sound device. So far so good, but there's one problem: as soon as the Bluetooth connection is made, Windows decides without asking for my input by the way, to switch off the pair of headphones which are connected to the audio out on the mainboard and starts using the soundbar as the default audio output device on a system-wide level.

That's a nice feature actually for many circumstances, but I need to disable it somehow. Ideally, I would like the sound settings of Windows to remain exactly the same, no matter if a Bluetooth device capable of playing back audio is connected or not. When required, I would switch on the Bluetooth speakers and use a specific piece of software to work with that specific device.

Is a configuration like that possible on Windows 7? If so, what do I need to do to set this up? I've loo... Read more

I tried to fix the problem through windows, I've downloaded some driver they suggested but it didn't work. I uninstalled audio controller and that did not work. I am not very computer savvy, and I know this topic has been covered but those solutions have not worked for me. If you need more information, please let me know how to find it for you. I could keep this computer for a while if I could just get sound working.

The audio on my device stopped working. Taskbar audio icon shows a red X as if muted, when you mouse over the icon, it shows the error 'No Audio Device is Installed'. Checked under device manager unable to find sound option. Installed Realtek HD audio drivers from the Realtek website with no solution. Please help?

You can get the drivers from the Inspiron 15z 5523 html page. Use either the Win 8.1 driver (labelled "WB64A") or one of the Win7 ones. First go into Device Manager and right click on the Realtek High Definition Audio Device to open the context menu, then "uninstall" and check the box to "delete the driver software for this device."
When you re-boot Windows will remove the Realtek driver and install its native audio driver. See if audio works. Then you can install an IDT driver over the native driver without removing it first.
If neither the native nor IDT driver helps, try reverting to your previous operating system. If the audio still does not work then the hardware has probably failed. If it does work in the previous OS, then perform a clean installation of Win10 and see if it works.

I ran a windows diagnostic test and it said there was nothing wrong with my mic. I have absolutely no idea what the hell is happening.

I'm having a strange problem in my HTPC. Audio is coming perfectly fine out from the S/PDIF coaxial output, and it's normally connected only that way to the receiver, but now for other reasons I also need to connect it using a 3.5 mm to a small mixer. So in the sound manager I changed the output to the "Speakers", and in fact the Realtek sound manager detects that a cable is plugged into that output and shows me the dialog where it's selected. Problem is, nothing comes out.

I know it's not the 3.5mm to RCA cable because I plugged in my phone, played some music and I can hear it just fine. But the rear speaker (green) output puts out no sound at all, as I also tested it plugging headphones. On the Sound Windows panel where you can select the playback device I can see the volume level move up and down when I'm playing any media file, as well as in the Volume Mixer. If I switch back to the S/PDIF output and change the input in my receiver, audio is coming just fine.

I haven't tried the front outputs because they are not connected. The motherboard has HD Audio but the case has AC97 connectors, so I never cared to connect them because I don't use them. I know the rear green output worked at some point because I remember having a pair of computer speakers connected to it a few years ago.

A:Realtek ALC889 audio, audio fine on S/PDIF, nothing from rear output

I found out after a while. In the popup dialog when a cable is plugged in, I had selected "Rear speaker out" mistakenly thinking it was talking about the rear output, not the rear speakers in a 5.1 speaker setting. Changing to "Front speaker out" solved the problem.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on my Dell Inspiron E1505.

I have had no problems with it for several years; however, recently my computer has booted with a red 'X' on my audio and tells me that "No Audio Output Device is Installed." I checked my Drivers and my High Definition Sound and 2 Base System Device drivers have Yellow Question Marks by them. I tried to update the drivers manually but it says Windows Cannot Find Support for your Base System Device and it says my High Definition Audio is already up to date. I have also tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting Windows to let the system automatically search and update the drivers. This too has failed. I do not have my Windows 7 disc available at the moment to be able to do a clean install.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

No sound.
Little speaker with the red 'x' appeared yesterday
I have gone through the whole update drivers circus to no avail, my laptop can't detect that it has speakers built in so it doesn't bother finding a driver for them.

This is where I am at:
- Intel Display Audio is the only driver installed for sound
- This means that sound works when the laptop is plugged into an HDMI
- When HDMI is not plugged in, the computer cannot find the built in speakers.
- I have Linux on this system and audio does not work there as well

I would call this a broken chipset, but the fact that the computer still processes audio with the HDMI cable attached is confusing me. Also, the 'audio board' for this laptop has 2 usb ports attached to it, and those both work fine.

Any help would be appreciated

hello everyone:

i looked in on seven forums trying to find a fix for my driver problem, a lot of friends here were helpfull, i like to give back a little even if my pc is working fine now.

my pc is a desktop running windows 7 pro, motherboard esc a780gm-a, i had a problem with my hd audio driver, under my control panel audio device i only could see "no audio device installed" even when i installed it 10 times, i also saw on my right conner "no audio output installed"

i had a logitech camera installed.

the fix:
i found that my logitech camera was somehow in conflict with my audio device, it kep telling me "communication mic ???" something like that, well after uninstall the logitech camera software my audio came back and its now working perfect.

i hope this helps.

check if you have a camera with a built in mic, this might be your problem.
thank you all.

I have no audio at all since the last update from windows 10 in early April.  I am showing a No audio output device installed on the audio icon on my computer.  When I go to device manager it shows that I have no sound components and an error code 39.  This is starting to really frustrate me.  I have tried everything and nothing works.  Be it said I am not an IT person and am limited in my knowledge of computers, but still I am pretty sure it can be a simple fix.

Im having the dreadful "No Audio Output Device is Installed" problem on my realtek audio.

It worked some months ago, but im in no position to do a roll back. Im sure the hardware is just fine, it works with Ubuntu.

The computer is a Dell Vostro 430.
My OS is win7 64bit.

I tried the newest Realtek driver suite, the recommended dell-drivers and some basic windows-drivers. Nothing makes the "No Audio Output Device is Installed" go away.

Any help is welcome.
Ive attached my sound-related reg. I believe my realtek device is 0001.

A:Realtek Audio: No Audio Output Device is Installed

The Dell driver is required, non Dell drivers will either not work or not work correctly.

First thing, is the Integrated Audio enabled in the BIOS? (F2 at boot up to enter Setup).

Second, on Dell's (and many others) if the motherboard chipset drivers were not installed, the sound device will not work. In this model there are Intel motherboard chipset drivers. Try installing them and then the Dell sound driver. Dell Drivers

Hi guys,
I'm having a little problem with my onboard audio, having just installed Windows 8.1 (clean install). I have an Asus P8Z77-V LE PLUS motherboard, which includes a "Realtek? ALC889 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC" onboard.
I have installed the latest realtek drivers; R2.73 from the official website.
Now, here's my problem: when I was using Windows 7 on this same machine, I could plug headphones in the front panel connector, as well as speakers in the green back panel connector. This would give me two audio outputs in the device manager/sound list, which was pretty practical and enabled me to output different applications through the speakers or the headphones.
Now, however, there's only one output, irrelevant of whether or not I have two outputs plugged in at the same time. They appear in the device manager as a single device called "speakers" (see picture). Instead of both having separate outputs, they both output exactly the same audio.

Any solution to this?

A:Realtek HD Audio only shows one audio output at a time

Hello audiobreak,

Try going into the Realtek HD Audio Manager (Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Realtek HD Audio Manager), then look for a setting called 'Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously'. I cannot remember where this is located (The Realtek HD Audio Manager has different skins depending on the motherboard vendor), but for an ASUS Motherboard, I believe you click the Cog Icon in the top left and the option should be in there. I don't know if this will create a separate Playback Device for the Front Panel in Window's Playback Devices, but it will at least allow you to hear audio from both your speakers and headphones at the same time.

Hope this helps.

I have the same audio output (via HDMI to TV) problem with the Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop.
1) Windows is 8.1, has all the latest updates from Microsoft.

2) BIOS is of the latest version. Every driver that Dell had as an update for this computer has been installed. Everything is up to date.

3) Background programs are kept to the minimum. Making sure that HD, RAM and CPU utilization are low by monitoring the Resource Monitor. I even followed advice of Latency Monitor, and turned off the Page File memory caching. Plus the laptop is plugged into electric outlet, and is working in Performance Mode with CPU not being in energy saving mode.

4) HDMI cable is new and very good, and works fine with two other OLDER computers. So the problem is not with the cable or TV set.

When will DELL finally fix this, and release improved drivers that will take care of this problem?
