Preferred Solution: Digital River .. a handful of random files and no ISO?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been following the above thread where a guy kept trying to download a Windows 7 iso from Digital River, and it was wrong size/'not an iso' etc. Even though I don't need any iso's myself, I thought I'd have a go at downloading one to see what the OP's problem was. Sure enough I had the same result - 2.49GB (not 3.09GB for x64). Twice in fact.

That was browser download, so I tried 2 separate download managers. Seemed fine at first, but both stopped at 99.9%. Curious . . .

I'm starting to wonder if Microsoft are playing the old 'poison torrent' game - record labels sometimes release bad torrents of music CDs into the wild and fans download them (illegally) but are disappointed when it's a fake. After a few more useless attempts to get the CD, the pirate gives up and buys the product (well that's the theory).

Pretty soon all computers on sale will be Windows 8, and a lot of folk will buy one but want to downgrade to W7. MS seem to be moving the goalposts on that scenario, but no probs - we can just get a W7 iso from Digital River. Or can we ???

Just like the 'poison torrents', after several failed W7 Digital River downloads I guess MS expect us all to give up and buy into W8 (and buy their video's + mp3's).

Anyhow, at least I haven't broken any EULA law - all the iso's I downloaded tonight weren't copies of W... Read more

A:Something wrong at Digital River ?

You can remove your tin foil hat - sort of.

I used Pale Moon to download the ISO mentioned in the thread and it was fine
(e.g. I could mount it via Virtual CloneDrive and look around at the files...
...I could also build a virtual machine from it via VirtualBox.).

I also downloaded two other ISOs at the same time. One was fine, but X17-59465 was weird.
The last ISO in the screenshot above should be that same size as the first ISO.
X17-59465.iso looked fine.
I could mount it via Virtual CloneDrive.
I could even start the OS install process, but it barfed:

Notice the size being reported during the download.
That download was the 3rd try.
The completed download below it was 2nd try.

And these two download attempts were via another ISP:

Both of those downloads were via IE10. Both claimed that the download was interrupted. I looked at the file size of the ".partial" file before hitting the Resume button. The ".partial" file was the same exact file size (2.619...) shown in the first image of this post. Pressing Resume started the download all over again - but the "resumed" download made no claim of an interruption. Each second try just gave me the 2.619... file.

How odd.

There is no trial version of Win7, only a 30 day grace period before you must activate so you can decide if this is an install you want to keep. You should already own a license. If so then read carefully over the steps to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7. It discusses in Step 1 how to find replacement media.

Ok, so I was finally able to get the main Expanded Setup file extracted.

But now I still have the 3 original files on my desktop... what do I do with them?

Also my expandedsetup file is this large:

Size: 3.01 GB (3,239,836,668 bytes)

Size on disk: 3.01 GB (3,241,648,128 bytes)

Contains: 874 files, 199 folders

But doesnt it need to be 3.02 or something? So did I download a bad version? Or do I have it all for 7 64?

You can do it. See this DR help link:

Step 2 ? Download the ISO Image of Windows 7
Please obtain these links by contacting Digital River customer support. The Windows 7 ISO file is large (>2GB). Please verify that you have sufficient hard disk space to download this file and install Windows 7. Approx. 20GB will be enough for both operations.
Download the Windows 7 ISO image and save the file to a location you can remember. The download may take a considerable amount of time on slower internet connections.

In our household we have two students, and so ordered a copy of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Home Premium in both x64 and x86 versions - a total of 4 products from Digital River.

Having used their download manager to download these files, I now have 6 files: 4 .exe files (as expected) plus 2 files named setup1.box and setup2.box.

The .exe files are, however, only just over 70KB each, setup1.box is almost 3GB and setup2.box is 163KB.

Running the Home PRemium versions fails immeditaely, saying it can't find the required files. Running the Pro x64 .exe file starts to build a .iso file ("Unloading the box"), but then fails with an unspecified error.

Any ideas?

Hi all,

What a nightmare!!!

I have just had an email from Digital River, that I will be getting a full refund for the Windows 7 upgrade within the next 30 days, for the problems caused. I haven't even emailed them to complain (yet!)

The email also states that if I ordered the backup cd's these would still be dispatched.

Happy days - sort of!

Thanks

Ok, I know some have cracked it, and others haven't, but I thought I would share this one with you.

I am running a MacBook Pro, and had Windows XP running under bootcamp. Downloaded from Digital River and had all the problems. Finally got it to boot, but wouldn't install due to unable to create folder.

Scrubbed bootcamp partition and tried using Parallels. So far so good, but not for long. Won't take my product key as I have the upgrade product 32bit, but at least it got that far.)

Now, reloading windows XP on bootcamp, and my XP disc has a scratch on it and can't be read

Ah well

Any help would be great.

As Jann from Heidoc reports in Windows 7 Direct Download Links as of now only English and Spanish are still up, links being replaced by a new MS Recovery Center that provides ISO's for a retail Product Key.

I'd also had heard from SIW2 who couldn't get it to take his retail key due to a Language error. I also had the same error on two of my retail Keys. The address we were using is Microsoft Software Recovery

But if it's not allowing Product Keys from COA stickers then it is another ridiculous attack on the ability of MS customers to get the best possible install of the OS they bought with their PC even after over a million consumers have done so following Clean Reinstall Windows 7. I honestly thought we were beyond this, but apparently not.

I'm going to wait a day before bringing this up to the MVP forums to see if anything changes.

I first purchased Windows 7 Home Edition (32-bit), then upgraded online to Windows 7 Pro (32-bit).
The hal.dll corrupted and I couldn't fix the problem because I only had the Home Edition discs.

Several sources in Forums advised me to fix the problem using a boot disk from an ISO downloaded from Digital River.
That disc couldn't fix the hal.dll problem either so I did the Custom Install. That put a new installation of Windows 7 Pro on the computer.
Now I'm being asked for the Activation Key. The Key I was given when I upgraded to Pro isn't being accepted. I'm told that the Key I was given only works for the Windows 7 Pro upgrade..!

I've signed-on to the Microsoft site and followed links around for a while, but I can't find any understandable information about my problem. How do I get the Activation Key for Windows 7 Pro now that it's been reinstalled?

A few days ago I wanted to download Windows 7 Profesional 32 bit iso from Digital River. It started to download and then it stopped to download at 10.9 mb. I tried to download it with Free Download Manager, Internet Download Manager, DownThemAll but it also stopped at 99%. This problem is on all my browsers. I didn't have any Internet Connection problems while downloading the iso. I tried to download files that are larger than 2GB but its the same problem. I am on a DSL connection. I need this iso to install it on another computer. How to solve this problem ?

A:Why I can't download Windows 7 Profesional 32 bit from Digital River ?

Usually what happens after 99% is that the file is moved from a temp folder to the download folder, and then scanned by your antivirus program. Try and delete all browsing history, verify there's enough free space on the disk, and temporarily disable the antivirus.

It will not be in three seperate files. that was a torrented fiel. It will come in either an ISO (most likely) or a vhd (doubtful). to burn you take the ISO file and burn it to dvd using an app like IMGburn, or powerISO, etc

Windows 7 student upgrade hell - Apple 2.0 - Fortune Brainstorm Tech

As I posted several days ago, I am just shocked that MS didn't work with Digital River to get a solution out there ASAP...to avoid just this type of press. I really have been surprised that I didn't get an email a day or two after release day from DR or MS stating, "if you have issues, you can download the ISO from here." I mean seriously, what's the value of the ISO without a key?...and if you managed to get a cracked key, I doubt access to the install media is what is holding you back.

I am sure that this issue is DR's fault since they appear to have written the installer based on its signature...but the result is the same either way - bad press for MS and Win 7.

Anyway, just thought that I would share.

I purchased the student offer version of Windows 7 yesterday top up grade from XP, as for ?30 I thought I couldn't go wrong.

So there I was this morning thinking I could set a side a few hours to get it all up and running but 11 hours later i still dont even have all of the first .box file downloaded!

I live off campus (in the UK), but still have a cable broadband connection and can usually expect file download speeds of 300-800kb/s as reported by the windows download window.

Now I know that there is probably high demand on Digital River's servers at the moment, but still... My download has only managed 40-50kb/s on average with a couple of short peaks to 70-90kb/s.

At this rate it'll be tomorrow evening before I get to a point where I can install.

Anyone else having this problem, or ideas of how to speed things up? I ask as i can't find anywhere else which mentions this problem, only people talking about creating .iso files as if their download flew by and now they're installing.

A:Microsoft Digital River iso downloads - gone for good?

Looks like they are gone. sari and Toffee informed me about it yesterday, apparently, a lot of people (including MVPs) aren't happy with that decision, but there's nothing that can be done. I have the Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bits .iso on my computer, which is one of the most popular, and I can access all the others be entering the product keys I have and also use my e5.onthehub (DreamSpark) account, but I think that uploading them and distributing them would be illegal. This is kind of stupid too. What if the person needs a recovery DVD to access the Recovery PE, but lost his product key on the sticker. The only way would be to grab it from Windows itself, but it wouldn't be bootable. Hopefully they'll make these .iso available to the public again.

Hello! While I know that this is the very first day of Windows 7 release and everything, I just wanted to see if anyone had a similar problem and had found a way to fix it.
So, I finally got Windows 7 Professional Upgrade (since I'm a student) to start downloading through my Campus' proxy and after downloading smoothly for a half an hour or so it hit 68% and paused. At first I thought nothing of it, but now when I try to click "resume" it downloads about .01-.02mb of data and then pauses again all in less than a second.
Anyone know how I might fix this? I've exited the Download Manager and started it again a couple of times, and restarted my computer and have unplugged/plugged back in my Ethernet cord.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

My computer knowlegde is limited, so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

A:Win7 Digital River Master Disc Won't Boot

You say you can't boot from the disk even after making correct BIOS boot order settings, but then describe the disk loading. How does the disk load if not booted?

Do you get the prompt to "hit any key to boot from CD/DVD drive?" If you do this, does it then begin loading with a progress bar and proceed as you say? That is booting from the DVD.

If it was not able to boot from the DVD then it would start into Windows 7 and probably bring up the Autoplay menu of the DVD in the drive. Is this what happens?

It is possible that the DVD only has the files and isn't bootable. If so, we can help you create a bootable ISO from the files to burn to a DVD.

I will also note I cannot remember if it was with the OEM Restore partition, and or from an External DVD Drive, but I do remember when I had installed Win 7 Starter on more than one my netbooks through one of these means that I was still getting updates, but then I had gotten to a certain point, and I still could not install all of the windows updates.

Hi!
Only Firefox connects to the internet. Other browsers and many programs cannot connect to the internet. Nor can I update Java or Flash or install new software that requires an internet connection.
I've tried many things, including refreshing netsh winsock and winhttp in command prompt didn't change anything. running an sfc scan returned no results. I feel like the problem is with winhttp or winsock since many programs use this as the default just like IE Explorer does, but I'm not too knowledgeable in the subject.
When navigating to proxyenable in regedit, I found it was already set to 0. I also noticed a "proxyhttp1.1" (set to 1) and a "proxyserver" (set to an address that looks like an ip address followed by :80). I've tried to rename proxyserver to OLDproxyserverOLD and restarted, but nothing changed.

I'm not sure what this all means, but I do know that this problem has stumped me.

Thank you in advanced for any help =)

A:Only FireFox (and a handful of other programs) can connect!

Click on and then click Control Panel.

Click Network and Internet, and then click Internet Options.

In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Connections tab.

Click the LAN Settings button.

See if there is a check next to the box for Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections) and a check next to Bypass proxy server for local addresses

If you don't use a proxy then there shouldn't be a check next to those boxes

Okay this one is strange -

No errors in event logs.
Server service is no started up but is set to automatic.
Changing service startup type rebooting and changing it back to automatic does nothing.
Going to command prompt and typing in net share yields an error about Server serivce not started and a y/n question if you want to start it.
Once enabled it stays enabled for a couple of hours and then goes back to stopped. (This may be due to reboots on the users part I have not had a chance to look into the stopping part.)

All of these machines are virus and adware/spyware clean.

What can I do to try and get the serverservice to start up each time windows starts? Are there registry settings i can look at?

CTFMON.exe is a windows executable that is set to auto run on start up for most Windows XP, Vista systems

You see 4 installations of it because it has registered itself to run for the 4 user types on your computer, this

My fiancee' and I have been keeping up a long-distance relationship for about 2 years and we seem to be having a tad issue with the messengers we've been using. Specifically AOL/AIM. Also, as mentioned in my introduction post, I don't give out personal information. So please do not ask for my information to add me on any messengers. Thanks!

Apart from AIM'S usual weirdness from time to time, we don't have any issues. Though lately I've began to notice issues when I'm clicking on web-links that I am sent via aim. I can receive links just fine. However AIM freezes and sometimes reverts to the "whited" out coloring characteristic of freezing for about 30 seconds to 2 minutes and then resumes its normal state with normal coloring of the window. I am using an older version of aim (Version released in February 2011.) due to the newest version having the automatic chat-logs.

To put it simply. When clicking urls in the aim chat-window, aim freezes for a time and then unfreezes. Sometimes the link will open, sometimes it will not. Clicking the link again will produce the same Russian Roulette-type results.

Here's a few things I've noticed.

1: It only happens when links are clicked on in the chat-window of aim. I have yet to see it in another chat-program.
2: I have noticed that it happens more often after using flash/browser intensive websites such as youtube or Kongregate.
3: I haven't tried using another brows... Read more

I get this error when I just right click on any part of "my computer" everytime.

the pc then goes blank on desktop while it says " windows explorer shutting down " and then pc comes back. I tried to uninstall WD smartware but it won't allow me to. When I installed it the first time, all the menus were not available, so I uninstalled it, so I thought, and reinstalled it. Now there are 2 WD Smartwares shown in my programs and I can only get rid of the newest one. I also tried a system restore, but the date before the first install is not available.

Use Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled and see if you can uninstall it cleanly. If you are unable to uninstall the phantom version still lurking, you may have to re-install and then use the Fix It to uninstall properly.

Hello all,

So I have a little bit of mystery on a friends computer that I need help solving. I am working on Windows XP Pro computer, that is running extremely slow. Many of the icons on the desktop are just the generic file icon, you know the one that looks like a white sheet of paper with a little blue boarded window in it (don't know the correct name for this icon). Anyway most of these shortcuts or files when double clicked do not do much of anything except cause the cursor to change to the hour glass for a moment and then back. The only real short cuts that do work on the desktop are ones of programs I have installed on the computer since the problem arose. This is for the most part the same case with any icons within the start menu. I am unable to open the Network Connections, Control Panel, My Computer, Search etc.

I am however able to get a couple programs up and running such as Word, Excel which both run fine, and Outlook although Outlook does not really do anything except startup and then just sit there inable to connect and get any emails at all, and eventually I must open the task manager and "End Task" to get it to close. I have had some success with running programs from the command line. That was how I was able to install my scanning programs.

Now there is an internet connection as I was able to ping both the gateway and google.com from the command line, and Firefox, one of the programs I installed does work just fine.

Hello folks... and thanks in advance for your time and help!

Ok, I have a 5 year old media center PC running XP and I've never had any major problems. First thing this morning all was well after the PC spent the night in hibernation. After downloading and installing an update to Adobe reader, many odd and concerning things have happened.

1. Upon trying to restart after the update, the PC got hung up at the "Windows is shutting down" screen. So I manually powered it off.
2. Upon powering back on, the desktop was jacked up... the appearances were different (it was all set on the old standard Windows appearance) and all the text under my desktop icons was highlighted in blue.
3. A balloon message appeared saying "you have files waiting to be written to CD." This is especially alarming because those files WERE written to a CD...back in May!
4. Other things were different, such as the appearance of fonts in my Yahoo email, and the appearance of the minimize/maximize/close buttons in the upper right hand corner of each window.

My feeble attempt at fixing this issue started with trying to do a System Restore. That didn't work. I tried it three times, selecting three different restore points. No dice. Then I used Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Adobe Reader. Then I downloaded and installed the older version of Reader that I had been using before. After that, the Adobe Download Manager seemed to take over my PC and it even popped up when I clicked ... Read more

Hi everyone,
So I have this annoying problem.
People where telling me I they keep hearing this weird random digital beep.Never heard it until today I put on listen to my device in the audio settings. And now I was able to record the beep.
So I guess it must come from my microphone. (sennheiser pc360)
My headset is hooked to the frontpanel of my desktop with a jack. And when I use the backports the beep doesnt occur. I have no idea how to reprocude the beep, and it's totally random imo. Anyone got a clue what this could be? and if there is anything I could try to fix this.
I really like using the front pannel for my headset. Any help/ideas would be welcome! The beep recorded:

Hello,
I seem to have acquired some nasty stuff yesterday morning that won't go away...and something has DISABLED TASK MANAGER so any solution that requires that, I can't perform.

PCTools SpyDoctor has found the following, claimed to remove them, but they keep coming back:
Adware.Vundo
Adware.2020Search_com
Adware.Advertising
Trojan.Virtumonde
Trojan.FakeAlert (which is driving me crazy, and caused me to accidently delete my first post)

Pop-ups that claim to be from Windows Security Center, but look like they are from NOD32, (possibly fake), claim I am infected with the following:
TrojanDownloader.XS
2nd Thought
TX 4
180Solutions

PCTools SpyDoctor DID find those, and claims to have removed them, but these popups continue to say I am infected with them. Searching for the filenames that are mentioned give no results.

Is there a better Spyware program out there than SpyDoctor? It had a lot of awards, but appears useless. I have used in Safe Mode, Normal Mode, online, offline (needs to be online to clean anything I discovered). It came up asking me to block Adware.Vundo, which I did, but it still comes back, so the "Guardian" is not working to protect me.

There is also a file called OuterInfo that I discovered in Add/Remove programs, that is taking up 500+MB of space, but it cannot uninstall without going to the OuterInfo site to get the installation program. Is that safe? Sounds to me like leaving the cat to guard the canary while you're gone.

Hi everyone, New to the forums.

Everything was fine when I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 until upgraded to latest nVidia driver for my 8500GT - the problem is that randomly every 10 to 40 minutes (varies greatly) there is an error sound and my monitor goes to power saving mode. If I then press the "source" button and switch to analog (both analog and DVI are connected to one monitor) then I can see whats going on but the resolution is all wrong. and it keeps switching back and forth between the two at random intervals - very annoying as you can imagine.
*I have tried rolling back the driver - same problem.
*I have tried completely removing the 8500GT from the device manager, restarting, and reinstalling it. Letting windows choose the most appropriate driver - Same problem occurs.

any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.
Sam

Animus1539, welcome to the Seven Forums.

First thing would be to roll back the driver update. Unless the driver update addresses a problem you may be having, I would just leave it alone.

Hello, kali498
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

A friend of mine recently purchased a Dell Inspirion 537S. I personally set it up and installed all the additional software, and everything on it was running just dandy. However, a couple days after I set the system up, his Internet started acting screwy. He can only access a very small handful of websites (Google.com, PhiladelphiaEagles.com, state.nj.us, Marvel.com). But about 95% of other websites simply wont load including major sites like CNN.com, Microsoft.com, Dell.com and Firefox.

I get no error messages. The page keeps trying to load, and you can see the little IE icon doing it's thing, but the page just stays white. It's not an ISP issue. 3 Comcast technicians have looked into it and left scratching their heads. I've tried 2 different laptops, and both can access the internet using the wireless router just fine.

I've disabled the Windows Firewall and the Mcafee Firewall that came with the machine. I've set the IE security settings to the lowest possible settings, I've even used Dell's System Restore to bring the system back to it's factory settings (it formats the partition and everything). Still, the internet is a no go.

To add to the mystery, if I ping a site like www.disney.com I get a response, but the site wont load. I've tried everything short of installing a new browser (a last resort which I don't think will really work).

I spent 70 dollars talking to Dell tech support, which at best is completely oblivious. I spent an hour waiting for the guy to flip thr... Read more
