All my contacts within my Yahoo Email Address Book are getting a bogus email with either no title or just a name in the title and then just a link in the body of the email that usually contains the word viagra or the word "love" or "lo.ve" etc in the link. I've downloaded antivirus programs inluding MS Shield and Norton Antivirus and they often find a Trojan or other files that they clean up but after a few days I get emails from my friends saying they are getting spam/virus email from me again.

This company or spammer is sending us spam with our own email address. I have tried to write them that we will file charges or whatever our State Attorney General thinks is best.

But none of the emails or applications on their site will go through.

What can we do besides going along with the State Attorney General.

A:sending us spam with our own email address

hello ,

do not open the messages for that is what started it

block the message

is it thru (outlook) or another mail system

get a good spam blocking software

also listing (e-mails & company address's ) in forums will give the spamers that browse forums looking for address' & company names a link to you or the company

is your company big enough to have an IT tech ?

if so then contact hime to solve this issue for then he will have a kinda lock on the system and what we tell you will be kinda useless

let us know

Not even sure if this should be here.

This AM my web-based Yahoo mail sent a spam to everyone on my contact list. I constantly see others having this happen to them but I do a daily scan with MBAM,SuperAntiSpyware and Windows Essentials and so far the computer LOOKS clean.

I have no idea about the web-based (Yahoo!) mail client, but it wold need an impetus from my computer to go sending crud about, I should think.

Asking Yahoo! about this proved slightly less frustrating that trying to thread a needle while on a vibrating bed.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Hi guys,

'Boopme' had me run MiniToolBox and he wrote that he found "errors and other issues" and he bumped me to this thread.

Norton now seems to be removed and the restart was successful w/ out a restore.

This is what I wrote in under the from "Am I infected?" thread;

Been having problems with my laptop running Vista Home premium svc pack2.
One day, a month ago, Norton was not updating properly. Upon the next boot-up windows would not start and I was forced to restart in safe mode with a system restore. This was successful but Norton Security Suite was still not updating properly.
Since then, on a few occasions, I have attempted to uninstall Norton without success thru the program uninstaler. Norton is unresponsive. I even got the Norton rep. to do a remote deletion of all registry files of Norton. But they all returned after the reboot of my PC because windows would not open and I had to start-up thru system restore.
Since then my yahoo email been hacked and spam sent to the contacts of my address book.
I know I got something but I don't know what.. Can anyone take a stab at what I might need to do?
Thanks,
Brian

Greetings Brian and to BleepingComputer's Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal forum. My name is Oh My! and I am here to help you! This morning my msn email account had letters from family letting me know that my msn address has been sending emails from my account that contain malicious links. When that family member clicked on the link it started downloading and could not be stopped until she used control/alt/delete to shut off the computer.

Yesterday I had just opened an email account with Gmail and imported my address book. Is this related? Or maybe, is this problem tied to when the gaming system PS3 had its data hacked a few months back--personal data areas were hacked that included email, credit cards, and passwords, etc.? Either way, I need to find where the problem is and fix it.

I went to MSN Live solutions center, downloaded and ran their recommended tool to locate problems--a quick scan found nothing. I am running Nortons Antivirus that came with my Qwest MSN account. My main computer is running XP Media edition, 32 bit, with service pack 3.

Please help me locate the trouble and fix this. I have sent a warning email to my whole address book from my new Gmail account to hopefully prevent others from getting this.

A:MSN email address book hacked, sending malicious links

Update--so far MSN says it sounds like a virus, but nothing was found. We reset the computer to an earlier date, about 8 days earlier, and then Norton's wouldn't run. It had 3 error codes; 3043,1 3040,20011 and 3040,20063. Nortons Fix it didn't work on these codes and after following their recomendations, it still didn't work. Finally uninstalled Nortons and reinstalled. Ran quick scan, found 8 small problems and it fixed those. Ran again as full scan, found 4 more concerns and automatically repaired those as well.

Ran Microsoft Safety Scanner for full scan- nothing found. Ran SpyBot search and destroy--nothing found.

Talked to Qwest, because they were the number Norton's sent me too (Qwest provides my DSL). Qwest took the info and looked at my email account. They noticed the virus links all end in /world.html and many have more in common like modules/Search/world.html Qwest is looking into that, but who knows if they will find where this started? Qwest did say that copies of email sent from my MSN account were being sent to another account, my husband's email. We checked his account- non of my emails are there, except the spam email with the virus link.

This makes me worry--is someone intercepting my email? Maybe I didn't understand. My husband's email is on my account as an alternate in case something happens.
I have not had a chance to contact Gmail yet. It seems like more than a little bit of a coincindence that my ... Read more

All I am doing is opening Yahoo mail and trying to compose a new email to send to someone who is already in my contacts. When I click "to:" or "insert address" my address book shows up. But when I place a check mark and try to "insert checked contacts" I go to this address on a blank page: http://us.mc1612.mail.yahoo.com/mc/kioskHandler

I see that this has been asked before but no one had replied and I can't find the answer doing a search.

Can anyone help?

I have Vista Home Premium 32 using Firefox. The version is the latest version of Firefox but this has happened in many previous versions of Firefox. (I was lazy [or in a hurry] and just typed in the address of the entity to which I was communicating as a work around.)

Thanks
Wayne Margot

A:Solved: Yahoo email unable to insert address from address book

Concerning my post above: I turned on my older XP computer and I had no problem with inserting an address from the Yahoo! address book.

I compared all my settings in both computers and noticed that I had different settings relating to how pop-ups are handled. XP reminded me that the address book takes the form of a pop-up. On my Vista I had pop-ups opening up (?) in a webpage. That is the page which came up blank. After I have corrected the settings, I no longer have a problem.

I am using Outlook 2003 and run Windows XP.

When I create a new message I begin typing the name of the recipient and I would like it to match up with an address I have in my Outlook contact list. However, it does not read from there. It only seems to look at addresses that I have already sent to in the past. How can I get it to read from the address book? If I click on "TO" or "CC" it brings up another window with a list of addresses from my contact list. From there I can have it pull from the list. I would like to be able to do it withot the extra step.

Thanks!

A:Solved: Outlook 2003 dowes not automatically pull address from address book for email

That is how autocomplete works, from used addresses stored in the NK2 file.
This explanation and keyboard shortcut might help you.
Where do Outlook's auto-complete suggestions come from?

One of my email address is being 'hijacked'
emails are sent to people in my address book providing a strange link (mostly to pills)
I have run my Norton to clean the virus and tried to clean my history and registry.

I have checked your forum and found something similar but the support you provided was specific to the PC and I don't want to follow the same steps and make some ireversable damages.
Please HELP!! This is urgent! I have tried to fix this for months and got few complaints from the people receiving the emails I am not sending purposely!

We have a problem with emails being sent to everyone in a person's email address book in Outlook. The email reads "Karen has new pictures to show you. I told you I'd send some new ones... these are very erotic." This email is wreaking havoc and the issue needs to be resolved... anyone have any ideas on where I could start?

I am trying to solve a problem on my brother's pc. It is sending out ads soliciting sales of Viagra, Cialis etc. to family members in his address book. The emails are sent to three family members every day or so, although he has reported that other friends are receiving the messages as well. He is unaware of these messages emanating from his machine. I have had him run Windows Malicious Software Removal tool, Malwarebytes and Superantispyware which found errors and they were removed but now two days later I recieve another solicitation from his address. I think he still has the problem. Any advise would be appreciated. He is not computer savvy but I talk him through the procedures by phone. Thanks

My uncle had his Yahoo hacked awhile back. He's run Malwarebytes repeatedly (clean) and changed his Yahoo mail password, but spam admail continues to be generated to his address book.

I'm assuming this is being done off-site with addresses harvested by the hacking. But is there anything that can be done now to stop it?

A:Hacker still generating spam from address book

Are his contacts receiving spam showing his Yahoo account? If so he can open a new account and cancel the old one. Then notify his contacts so they can ignore or block his old address.

I use yahoo.com as my e-mail and about 3 to 4 months ago I got a virus that was able to steal my address book and is sending e-mails out every week +-. They are the penis enlargement, and prono sites crap. I was having yahoo use a signature so all the e-mail is being sent from me with my business signature at the bottom.

Help I need to stop this it is not good for business to have this crap coming from me. What I have done so fare is remove all e-mail address’s from yahoo and removed the added my signature to all out going e-mails. But would you believe it they are still going out from me to the same people with the old signature at the bottom.

I have run Norton IS and don’t know what to do next. Someone told me my address book is on a spam server and it has nothing to do with me anymore they will use my address book and be able to send crap out as if I am the one sending it. Is there anything else I can do?

Hi y'all. Yesterday while my laptop was in sleep mode with the lid closed it sent out a email with this link or or similar (hxxp://www.isj1.health24x.com) the set of letters and numbers after the www. is different in some of them. They were sent out at 4:00am, 4:30am, and 6:00am in batches of ten at a time. This is the first time I've ever had one of these and I haven't even been on my computer but just a couple times in the last 2 months since I've been down sick. I haven't even run my mail in 3 or 4 weeks or longer.
The night before it sent out the emails with the links I had booted it up to check something and then just let it go into sleep mode and shut the lid on it. Since I've found that it sent out all those emails on it own I have ran a full scan with the Norton internet security 2010 and it didn't find anything. So I downloaded the newest AVG and installed it and run the up date. Then ran a full system scan with it. Same thing, it found nouthing.
What should I do now?

I have been receiving emails with the same pattern. They are from a contact that I know, there is no subject and there is a link to what seems to be a drug or prescription link. I have been receiving them for a couple of weeks now, but only from one person. I notified her, but nothing came of it. Her husband is pretty techie and couldn't find anything. A few days ago, I got the same type email from another one of my contacts. Today from 2 of them. I have been trying to research it on and off for a bot. I have come up with the health24x virus. I know how to do combofix, but I don't know if I am infected or they are.

I will run a hijack this and post my findings.

For a good couple of months now, my mother's Yahoo email account has been periodically sending spam emails to her entire address book. I told her she should change her password as it appeared that her password had been phished, but that didn't fix the problem. I've done several avast! scans, including a couple of boot-time scans, but they have all turned up clean. The emails are being sent about once a week, and contain a link to a web site claiming to sell Viagra and such. The DDS log for the computer is below, and Attach.txt is attached. GMER had some issues while running. It scanned for a good 20 minutes or so, but then the computer had a BSOD. After restarting, I tried to run GMER again, but Windows said that it had a problem that prevented it from running. I tried to run it a third time, but as soon as I pressed the Scan button, the computer bluescreened again. Hi there,

I'm hoping somebody can help!

My Hotmail account has been copromised in some kind of way. It keeps sending out e-mails with the subject of 'Hi' and the base of the message includes a link to a site called easybuyshopcn.com. I also lost all my e-mails in my inbox for the last 2 months. I scanned my computer using Norton, Spybot S + D and Lavasoft Ad-Aware and have cleared all of the results but it still seems to be sending these e-mails out automatically.

I have done a scan using Hijack This and have attached the log file.

If anyone can help at all, I'd be really graetful.

Thanks for taking the time to read...

I have alerted the entire contact list and suggested they not click on the link and delete the message. Many have responded with thanks.

Thus far I have run a Norton scan with only five cookies detected and no viruses. I have also downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-malware and run both a quick scan and a full scan. No issues were found. What should be my next step?

When I normally send out an email to friends I use an address book name and it automaitcally installs all the address in the Bcc abd I can visually see all the email addresses and delete any that I do not want to send the email. Now when I put in the address book name the email addresses and put in one line and I have difficulty locating the names I want to delete. How can I get the address book to wrap around"

Thank you

I moved your thread, as this does not appear to be an OS issue. To get help you'll probably need to specify your email client; or if using web mail specify the browser(s) and your mail provider.

Sounds like a virus. There is one that e-mails using random addresses. Go to Symantec website and download fixes for the latest viruses.

I received an email from MY email address that my spam filter put in my spam box, but I didn't send it. How do people send emails like this, and how do I prevent it?

I use Yahoo/AT&T for my email. I checked my "sent" folder and that email was not in there. I also right-clicked the address to see if there was a "real" sender in the code, but it was my email address. I used to be able to mouse over a return address and see the real sender. Wish that feature still worked!!!

Just as a precaution, I reset my password, although I really don't think I've been hacked - just impersonated.

Thanks so much for any suggestions!

Hi,

I have a very simple question. At present I'm receiving around 100 spam messages a day, this started this week and they're all being sent as if they were Undeliverable Messages that I've sent, which clearly I haven't.

They're all being sent to my websites domain, but none have my name. All I want to know is can you set up Outlook Express or can I get my host to block any mail that doesn't have my whole email address.

I mean if my email address was [email protected] could I block an email that was sent to [email protected] or would any email forwarded to @myaddres.com come to me regardless of the prefix?

Thanks, damn spammers what is the point, would anyone buy their drugs after recieving 400 emails in 4 days?

Cheers

Neil

My email is [email protected] (xx to keep it hidden!). But I have been receiving spam to [email protected]. But this is not my email address! Yet still it is appearing on my PC. Why?

I am using Outlook 2003 and the address was shown in teh To: field.

Thanks,

Jon

A:Spam to (not) my email address

Because your address is in the BCC field of the email received, so it's not seen due to the custom SMTP email engine that the scammer scumbags use. Only a spoofed one is seen.

Spam is somehow being sent which displays my email address. I know this because:
a) I have had messages returned as undeliverable to addresses I hadn't sent email to.
b) I received a spam message from myself (!)

My OS is XP. I have service pack 2. I run AVG regularly and ad aware and spybot every once in a while. BTW, I'm computer literate, but I don't speak geek, so don't get too technical with me please :)

I contacted my internet service provider after messages I sent to hotmail addresses returned saying, "Reasons for rejection may be related to contect with spam-like characteristics or IP/Domain reputation problems." It turns out that hotmail has blocked all messages from my internet service providers (the biggest, or one of the biggest in my country). This makes me thing that maybe they are infected somehow.

I have changed my internet password and started scanning for threats. The norton online virus scan worked, (showing I had 2 problems, trojan.wimad and adware.memory meter) but the security scan wouldn't run. Also my ad aware shut down mid scan. I ran an ewido online scan. I found a bunch of adware and one trojan. I googled to find out what the trojan was and found that it could be a false positive and erases it could screw up the computer. I erased the adware and left the trojan. I read more on your site and I hope this wasn't a mistake. BTW, not posting on any other site.

I have recently started to get returned emails from people who I don't know and haven't sent e-mails to. these are messages that are hitting their spam filters and being rejected/returned for verification. Is there any way to stop this? Is there some way to check if these messages are coming from my PC? I don't see anything in my sent items folder. If not from my PC, is there any way to identify the source from the returned e-mails and possibly stop them?

Using outlook 2007, Windows XP

My Great-Uncle has Windows 98se. He uses the newest Netscape and recently clean out his inbox using the Netscape email program. For one reason or another he had un-installed the email client and now he doesn't have any access to his emails or address book. I know nothing about Netscape because I haven't used it in like, years.

Is there anyway to obtain the emails or the address book from the Netscape email application after it is un-installed?

Thanks.

I have two computers one with XP and the other with Windows 7 and run Explorer 8 on both and have this same problem with both and I login with administrator rights. I?m almost sure that it is an Explorer setting problem that changed due to Microsoft updates in the last month or so, I didn?t have this problem previously.

I use gmail as my email service and when I "compose a message" and click the to: link it does not open my contact list (address book). If I go to Explorer/tools/internet options/advanced/reset and reset to Explorer defaults and then restart Explorer my contact list will then open. The problem is solved until the PC?s are shut down and then powered on again the next day and have to go through the same process again.

ProblemYAHOO address book pops "up" beneath the current window, when I click on "To:", while writing mail. I then have to click on its icon on the bottom bar to use it.BackgroundI've been using YAHOO for years. The address book has always popped up on top -- which makes perfect sense. The only reason to call it is to use it. Of course, you have to see it to use it.I just switched to IE 7 and have had trouble getting my pop-up management back where it should be. I reset settings in Pop-up Blocker (yes, I found that) ... then thought my google bar installation (also blocks pop-ups) might have been screwed up when IE 7 was installed (I didn't have to reinstall Google tool bar). But well .... kind of looks like maybe rebooting after resetting Pop-up Blocker did the trick for many of my problems; Right now except for one that I know of.

I'm pretty sure that this is one of those things that is really easy if you know what the trick is. I think I fixed it once before, a few years ago. I simply set something somewhere or something. But I don't remember exactly.

I remember finding the answer using a google search. I got lucky and found it on the first page. All attempts to do the same thing this time have failed.

Hi guys, my sis wants to know if she can block e-mails from anyone who is not in her address book. I thought it was possible but have been unable to find the solution (yet) but she only asked me an hour ago and I was busy at the time, so I thought where better to find the solution (if there is one)than here.
She is using Windows Xp and as it was preloaded on her machine I would say she has Outlook Express V.5 or above. Sorry can't say which version of outlook Express she has as she had to go out so I couldn't interrogate her anymore.

Help me out guys please, I'm the older brother so I have to know all (if you know what I mean) so I can get some peace.
