Playing videos on second monitor automatically plays full screen on primary monitor

Q: Playing videos on second monitor automatically plays full screen on primary monitor

Hi guys,

I have a really annoying problem... I have a dual screen set up on my desktop pc, and when I open a video in any media player and move it to my secondary monitor, it automatically plays full screen on my primary monitor as well!!

It's been going on for a while now, but just thought I'd actually see if anyone can help me!

I'm running win xp pro sp 3 and my video card is ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro... does that help?

Anyway, is there a setting somewhere that I need to address??

please help!

Preferred Solution: Playing videos on second monitor automatically plays full screen on primary monitor

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Playing videos on second monitor automatically plays full screen on primary monitor

Have you tried installing the lastest drivers? And is the second monitor spanned or cloned? I don't know here to tell you to look as I'm an nVidia guy...haven't used ATI in years.

Hi guys,

I'm having a bit of an annoyance with my dual monitor setup. It seems videos will only show on the primary monitor. I tried everything I coud think of in the Control Panel and NVIDIA control panel also but no luck... maybe a DirectX thing?

Any pointers?

Since few days (so I suppose something related with a recent windows update) my Precision M4700 with Intel Graphics + Quadro K2000M crashes when I switch to full screen with
- ANY browser
- ANY video website (YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, etc.)
- with external monitor (DVI or DisplayPort)
It hangs and freezes with a black rectangle and the only option is to power down (no CTRL-ALT-DEL)
The only way to see videos in full screen is to avoid GPU rendering and set the browsers to render via software (eg. IE11 -> Internet Options, Advanced, Use Software rendering instead GPU rendering)Drivers of both video cards updated:
- Nvidia 368.39
- Intel
Windows 10 x64

Even if the browser window is on my secondary monitor, when I hit the fullscreen button the fullscreen video appears on the primary. Also even when it is in fullscreen on the primary monitor, as soon as i click in my 2nd monitor it exits fullscreen. I tested in IE and none of these problems happen. also tried forcing a flash player update, but chromes flash player plugin is integrated so I couldn't figure out how to do that (and since it auto updates anyway I doubt that would do anything).

Im not an expert, but the same problem happened to me and could solve it by disabling an old flashplayer plugin in chrome.

When my laptop is plugged into an external monitor, the laptop screen is the "primary" display, where programs automatically open, etc. Is there a way to make the primary display not the laptop screen but the external monitor screen? Here's the catch--is there a way to do it *without looking at the primary monitor*?

I have this strange request because my laptop's screen recently died. I have connected an external monitor, and so can still use the computer--more or less. The problem is that I can't see my start menu, etc--they are all on the laptop screen, ie, the dead one.

I know, normally, how to switch the display: I would right click on the desktop and select "personalize," then "display" But when I do this, it opens the display in the primary monitor (the broken laptop monitor) and I can't see it to change the settings. It's a sad catch 22.

If anyone could help me with this is would REALLY appreciate it. Thank you.

Check your user manual for the laptop to see if has has a special key or a Function key that lets you toggle between the internal display and external monitor.

Hi, i am trying to set my pc up so that it has a second monitor used only for playing videos at full screen, without using extended desktop. I am using a an ATI Radeon EAH4850.
I have seen this done before where the second monitor screen is jus blank with a blue screen and then wen a video is clicked to go full screen it shows up on the second monitor instead of the main one.

A:Playing videos though second monitor

I'm not familiar with Radeon card controls but with Nvidia you can set your monitors to Dual View which is where you have two screens the same except one is the primary monitor where applications open and your icons reside. You can then apply different resolutions etc to each monitor.
To view videos in one monitor go to your players controls usually found under Options somewhere in the drop down menus and set it to Open Full Screen. Also, if your player doesn't automatically do this (most do), set it to Remember last window position.
Then open a video file, move the window to the monitor you want it to play in and close it there.
With the settings mentioned before being applied, the next time you open a video file in that player it should open in the required monitor at full screen.

Hi there!

What I want to do: "...extend my desktop on a second monitor, but, my second monitor is compounded by 2 HDMI TVs and a VGA LCD stage monitor both used as Duplicate setup in Windows 7".

How I have done this (and it works!):

-I have 4 diplay devices (2 HDMI TVs that are connected using a splitter and two monitors both on VGA);
-I also have two "video cards" (GPU): one Amd radeon hd 6570 (with VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports), and Intel HD onboard (aprox. 1GB with VGA output port).
-I have connected the TVs with a HDMI 1x2 splitter on amd radeon's HDMI port, and one of my VGA monitors (this one acts as a STAGE MONITOR for the singer / artist lyrics).
-The integrated Intel HD card has my "Control" monitor attached that I use as my primary monitor (the one that shows me the Desktop and the lyrics control application).

Software aspect of the problem: In Windows 7, I use my Intel HD video card as my primary display, then I can extend on a second monitor the desktop! (The second monitor is my VGA Stage monitor). The Third display that appears in the setup is the HDMI splitter, this one is a Duplicate of my stage monitor. I use: 1680x1050 resolution for my primary display, and 1024x768 for the second monitor... (I know, this resolution is too small for my HDMI TV's... Windows recommends me a 1900 x ... fullHD resolution, but my STAGE MONITOR does not support that much, so I need to use a small resolution).

I've searched some forums and while i have found all sorts of dual monitor problems i haven't found this one.

I have a MSI M670 laptop ( with nvidia 6100Go graphics card ) and a Samsung SyncMaster T240HD. I always connected my monitor with a VGA cable on my windows xp and everything worked fine.
After i've installed Windows 7 when i connect the monitor to my laptop automatically the laptop monitor is disabled and the Samsung becomes the primary display.
If i press windows_key+P Computer Only is selected and whatever i select from the list ( duplicate, extend, projector only ) nothing happens and Computer Only is always selected.

In the Nvidia panel under the "Set up multiple displays" option after i connect the Samsung it becomes the only option so i cannot revert to my laptop display whatever i do.
Rigurous Display Detection does not help at all.

Any ideas ?

HI everyone,
I'm having an issue with my displaying settings and I'm hoping someone here can help me to solve this.

I recently had an older HP Pavilion Media Center m7760n Desktop PC rebuilt. The old power supply fried the motherboard so I need to get a new power supply and motherboard. Here are my current specs.

Mainboard : Asus P5QPL-VM EPU
Chipset : Intel G41
Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 @ 2133 MHz
Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)
Hard Disk : WDC (1000 GB)
Hard Disk : WDC (250 GB)
DVD-Rom Drive : TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H653L ATA Device
Monitor Type : Hewlett Packard HP w22 - 22 inches
Monitor Type : Samsung SyncMaster - 15 inches
Network Card : AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCIe Ethernet Controller
Network Card : AR5006X 802.11a/b/g Wireless Network Adapter
Operating System : Windows 7 Ultimate Professional 6.01.7600
DirectX : Version 11.00
Windows Performance Index : 2.9
As you can see from above, the "video card" is actually integrated into the motherboard.

The computer works perfectly except for one major problem. I have 2 monitors, one is 22" with 1680 x 1050 resolution and the other is a 15" monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution. At the back of my computer I have a VGA port and a DVI port. The 15" is connected to the VGA port and the 22" is connected to the DVI port.

My computer desk sits next to my entertainment system, and I have it connected to two monitors: the primary 22? Viewsonic LCD (DVI) and my 42? Toshiba TV (HDMI hooked in via my receiver). When I just want to browse the ?net or email, I use the primary monitor. For gaming and movies, I use the TV. For a couple of years now, I?ve had display options to always display the TV (monitor 1). If the TV was off, it would default to the Viewsonic, per the Windows feature to always default to the current monitor if only one was on. If the TV was on, it would stop feeding the Viewsonic and default to the TV, so that any games or movies would display on the TV and not cause any issues fullscreen. This way the TV being on or off determined whether the PC would feed to it or not, and I?d only turn on the power hungry TV for entertainment.

About a month ago, my monitors started behaving oddly. The PC would power up normally and load Windows to the Viewsonic, and during the load up screen the Viewsonic would power down. The only way to see the screen was to turn on the TV. This is on Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium (up to date).
Things I?ve tried:Set the Viewsonic to be the primary monitor and settings to only display on the Viewsonic. Result: If the TV is off, there?s no video to the Viewsonic. If the TV is on, it is black (as expected since I've set the monitor to receive the feed) and the feed goes to the Viewsonic.

Was anything done to this system just before the problem started?

Have you swapped out the cables and/or tried a different connection to the monitors?

This sounds like a failure either at the video card or the viewsonic monitor electronics, so I would try swapping out the video card and monitor if possible to confirm or eliminate them as the culprit, this can include the cabling.

Vista goes screwy with this sometimes - but mostly, I have noticed, when I run WMC and it opens in the window that the app is in.

Try running WMC on your TV so that it forces the app to the other 'monitor' and then hit the start button on your KB, freeing your mouse from WMC, and then go to the other monitor and close the app(s). Then close WMC and see if the app opens back on the TV or in the monitor.

Eyfinity from AMD but it's a combination of both. You need a GPU that will support multi-monitors and a PSU that can power all the above mentioned hardware. Check out the link and the videos they have.

Yes, there is software that does stretch images across multiple screens. UltraMon, Display Fusion and MultiMon are just a few. Some are free, others are trial versions but most you have to pay for.

A:Dual screen, unable to full screen on second monitor

Hi welcome to Seven Forums

I am not sure what you are trying to do, the primary monitor (usually the largest) is for gaming and the secondary is for extras.

You say you want to play games full screen on your secondary monitor? Why not reverse the screens so the larger monitor is primary and the secondary is the smaller. Then your games and movies will still be running fine on the large monitor and your web browser, explorer, email ect. is on the smaller monitor.

"I dont want to have an Taskbar below the game, so thats why i need it on the Second Monitor." If the game is full screen the taskbar shouldn't be showing or if you still want to have the screen in a window, use the 'Auto-hide the taskbar' option so it disappears when not in use.

N.B - I have 2 different screens with the same resolutions as yours, using the 560ti and it works fine.

My Dell E510 was working just fine, until the plumbing problem wet the monitor. Black marks, green lines, just got worse and worse. I bought an acer X203H monitor with 1600x900 resolution. Problem is the Dell only gives me a max resolution choice of 1280x768. I've got a lot of black space around the viewable image. I've downloaded a driver for this model from Acer and selected it in the monitor properties via the driver update process. My Dell Dimension E510 has the intel 82945G Express Chipset, and therefore no graphics card. Am I just screwed? or is there a way to get the display properties to give me a choice of 1600x900?

What I want is to have a separate monitor displaying Diablo 3 while I do other things on my primary screen. So the program should not minimize when I select another window. Is that possible or would that require Diablo 3 to allow that?

A:Inactive full-screen window on separate monitor

Yes and Yes...Yes it's possible, but you would need some 3rd party software that can do this. Yes...it depends on the games settings which would allow/prevent this.

I bought a computer monitor and noticed that if I insert a DVI to HDMI cable from my monitor (HDMI) to my graphics card on the computer (DVI), the screen shows about a half inch of blackness on the border of the computer. When I hook it up with DVI to DVI it works just fine. But I need the DVI to HDMI cable.

*Also, when I do the DVI to the HDMI the taskbar also doesn't show up on the monitor so I can't really do anything.

Can anyone help with how I make this normal?

Is this a driver issue or a Windows 10 issue? Device Manager says my LG driver is up to date and that the MS display driver is also up to date.

Hey guys, So i have dual monitors, Im playing Age of Conan on my main, full screen. My second monitor is for Forums, Internet, Chatting, whatever else. When I click on my 2nd montior to respond, or to post something, my main monitor, full screen Age of Conan minimizes. Is there any way I can not make it minimize without putting Age of Conan in a windowed mode? Thanks for your help guys!

A:Gaming full screen, but Minimizing when I click on 2nd Monitor

you'll probably need to adjust either your mouse settings (I think there is a workaround for Logitech mice) or else edit a resource file in the game so that it allows the mouse to go out of game without minimizing the game - but I haven't heard of a way to do that thus far.

So, whenever I goes full screen when watching youtube on Chrome with my secondary screen ( the screen that wasn't set as main display) , it crashes with BSOD, either "Page Fault in Non Paged Area" or "System Service Exception", ddkmd.sys. Every single time. I tired to switch the screens and it still BSOD with the secondary screen. Recently, it also goes BSOD whenever I lauched the 3Dmark TimeSpy.

However, I can play video games (Bioshock, Evolve) with full screen on my secondary screen with no problem.

Please help >.<

I am using a web-based interface to view security camera feed on the secondary screen of my dual monitor set-up. Trying to view it full screen, but when it is maximized, it gets moved to my primary screen... Not where I want it. Is this a setting in Windows? How to fix? Appreciate it!

A:Viewing video full screen on secondary monitor.

Sounds like a problem from the software you are using. Alot of third party programs are not multi-monitor aware and just maximize to the primary.
