T480 M.2 Slot extender - where to buy?

Q: T480 M.2 Slot extender - where to buy?

My T480 came with the standard 512GB NVMe SSD in-a-caddy. I'd need some more storage so am attempting to tweak the laptop, putting in 2 SSD into the 2.5" space. Here's my plan: M.2 2280 NVMe/SATA
-> Proprietary connector (F) on the motherboard
-> Proprietary connector (M) 00UR495
-> SATA-600 (F) 00UR495
-> M.2(NGFF) SATA KEY B+M SSD to SATA Adapter card
-> Crucial MX500 M.2 Type 2280 SSD

M.2 2242 NVMe slot
-> NGFF M.2 PCIe M-Key extension card with 20CM cable
-> Lenovo SSD M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe 512GB OPAL 2.0 SSD M.2 2280 Samsung (FRU 00UP490)I thought of extending the M.2 2242 NVMe slot with an extender card but turns out it doesn't fit. These are the two pieces I'd like to connect by an extender card: Motherboard: Lenovo T480 M.2 B-key (NVMe only x4 slot, x2 physically wired)https://imgur.com/rutbx72--> The 6 pins on the bottom (only 5 physically wired) suggest to me that this is a B key M.2 slot.NVMe SSD:Lenovo NVMe SSD M-key (PCIe GEN3 x4 NVMe)https://imgur.com/dI1AyRq The extender card I had attempted early, but that doesn't fit the M.2 2242 NVMe slot:http://eshop.sintech.cn/storage-adapter-ngff-m2-pcie-c-130_137.html Am I correct to conclude that the M.2 2242 NVMe slot is B key? Or is this a more special WWAN slot or alike?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, the PSREF document for the T480 mentions that the M.2. 2280 SSD slot has 4 PCIe lanes (see http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20T480/ThinkPad_T480_Platform_Specificatio...). However the german site campuspoint.de who sells campus models of the T480 states that the M.2 2280 SSD slot in this model (unlike the T480s) is limited to 2 PCIe lanes, just as on the previous T470. I wanted to be sure and asked them, and here is their reply: We were stumbling over the same point in the PSREF. The difference to the former Models like T470 and T570 made us suspicious, since the new models use a very similar Adapter. So, we made a simple test. We took a T580 with a Samsung PM981 SSD, which should be able of up to 3200 Mb/s of read performance and made a simple benchmark. Our test showed a read performance of roughly 1800 Mb/s at max. This is about the same score as we had with the T470 and T570 Models and just slightly under what is theoretically possible with two PCIe Lanes. It looks like Lenovo just didn?t mention the restriction by the Adapter. This has nothing to do with Campus Models or not. The Campus Models use the same parts as used in other Thinkpad models. As you mentioned the T480s doesn?t have this issue.  Can Lenovo confirm there is a mistake in the PSREF of the T480 and T580 with respect to the number of lanes for the M.2 2280 SSD slot?

you may have the codecs on the desktop but not the extender, the extender is the device playing the files, not your desktop, all your desktop is doing is streaming it to the extender. to fix this, you will need to find software to decode the files and play them streamed on the fly, i used to use this software to play every type of file on my 360, before the update to play avi files came out, and it still works, give it time to decode the files first and you will be pleasantly surprised.

I recently installed a Hawking N range extender on my network to support a Roku that my husband got for Christmas. The Roku works great now, but my laptop sometimes connects to the main network (the way I always connected before the range extender) and sometimes to the range extender (which has the same network settings as the main router). Now I can only connect to the range extender. I have not changed any of the settings. The network pass key is the same for both. Why can't I connect directly to my original network. Both the range extender and the network name are listed in network connections.

I have a AMD 7870 Dual slot video card on my Asus M5A99X-Evo Motherboard. It is installed in the first 16x slot...and I also have a PCI-e 1x XF-I Titanium Sound card. The problem I am having is that one of the 1x slots is covered by the video card, and the 2nd one is open, but right smack below the Video card. My Video card is the Sapphire 7870 GHz Edition non OC.. Attached is a picture of what I am trying to explain. My other question is: Will this cause issues since one of the GPU fans is semi covered? Its it recommended? Last question: If I move this to one of the 8x slots below on my motherboard, will it cause my 16x PCI-E slot to slow down? Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide.

Computer Specs -

Asus M5A99x-Evo Motherboard (AM3+)
AMD FX 8350 8 Core (4Ghz)
Sapphire AMD Radeon 7870 GHz Edition (2GB)
8GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX memory (2x 4GB)
500GB WD Black Edtion SATA HD
1TB WD Black Edtion SATA HD
Sound Blaster XF-I Titanium PCI-E 1x Sound Card
Thremaltake 750 80+ Bronze PS (Smart Series)
DVDRW (SATA)
DVD-ROM (SATA)

A:Question about PCI-e slot below dual slot video card

My opinion ...

Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.

The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.

This is the strangest thing I've seen in the past 10 years of using computers. I have an Acer Aspire 7535-5020 laptop that came with windows 7, but I'm very picky and I wanted Windows xp back so I went onto Acer's website and downloaded all of the windows xp drivers and then formatted the laptop to Windows XP with intergrated Service Pack 3.

The computer works just fine except for one very strange oddity - the USB mouse I'm using only works when plugged into the first USB slot, it will refuse to work in the other 3 USB slots.

I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 USB which is my favorite mouse and I have 3 of them at home. When I was formatting the laptop, I had the mouse plugged into the first USB slot and now that is the ONLY slot it will work in. If I plug it into the other usb slots, the red laser will come on which means it's getting power, but it will not move the cursor and clicking either of the mouse buttons won't do anything.

When I have the Device Manager open, and I plug the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 mouse into the first USB slot, the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0' entry will appear in BOTH the 'Human Interface Devices' tab and also the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab.

However, when plugging the mouse into the other 3 usb slots, the 'Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0' entry will only appear in the 'Human Interface Devices' but NOT the 'Mice and other pointing devices' tab.

after figuring out it was a RAM problem i tried another stick of RAM but same problem so i guess its the actual slot it goes into, i only have 2 on my motherboard lucky one of them is working still.

That's known as integrated graphics, now do you have a PCI video card and an APG video card or an Integrated video card and an AGP card?

Also what are they Radeon xxxx? or Nvidia xxxx? we need to know the model numbers to tell you which is the better on to use.

hi there,
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?

A:which graphic card slot do i require for my PCI slot

The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.

You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.

Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?

A:can I add a AGP slot or PCI slot to a comp that doesnt have one?

You can't add a slot to a motherboard.

How old is this computer that it doesn't have a PCI slot? Those have been around for quite a while. Are you sure it doesn't have one? Even AGP is not new technology.

EDIT: After seeing your other thread, are you asking if you can purchase an AGP or PCI video card? That's a totally different question, and the answer would be yes depending on which slot your motherboard has. How much it costs depends on what you plan to use the computer for. A simple one is cheap, and high-end gaming cards can get expensive.

Hello All, I'm looking under the hood of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon, and I'm trying to identify the PCIe slots.  In particular, the following page states that I should have 2 PCI Express Mini slots:  https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd027202 Now I see the WLAN card and the WWAN card, and my natural assumption is that these are both in PCIe ports, but on closer inspection I see that the WLAN card's slot is only 19mm wide, whereas the WWAN card is the standard 26mm width of normal PCIe Mini ports. This raises some questions:  1. Is the WLAN connected to a proprietary slot, or is this just a different type of PCIe standard?  2. If the WLAN is connected to a proprietary slot, where is my second PCIe slot? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az

A:Why is my WLAN card slot narrower than my WWAN card slot (PCIe mini)?

On closer inspection, it looks like my SSD connects to a similar-looking slot as my WLAN card.  I guess this means my WLAN card uses a SATA connection or something? I normally work with desktop PCs, so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of these laptop hardware standards. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az-

Hi all,

We have great internet service with our cable company. We use their modem/router which works great in our mobile home and out into the yard. My problem, we have a small camper beside the mobile home that I use as a classroom, I home school, and the kids use as a hangout/gameroom. Wifi reception in the camper is not so great. We have an ethernet cable going out to it that the main schooling laptop is connected to so no problem there. The 2nd laptop on wifi no problem for the most part, drops signal maybe once or twice a month. Its the other things like tablets, phones etc that has little or no signal. I bought 2 wifi extenders, used, Netgear Dual Band WiFi Range Extender (WN2500RP) and a TP-Link TL-WA850RE. Both seem fine for a day or 2 then continually drop the signal. I know that since both the mobile home and camper have metal siding that that is an obstacle for the signal to overcome. Can anyone recommend a good extender/repeater that is better suited for my situation? I'm looking to spend around $75 to $100.

Thanks

A:WiFi extender?

I would install an actual wireless access point on that Ethernet connection and make all your laptops go wireless. I would also set up a dedicated SSID for use in the classroom. I am not a fan of using any extenders/repeaters.

I believe that would work yes, we usually call it a wireless access point when it's done through Ethernet.

A dedicated access point would be easier to set up rather than using another router. The one below has a simple switch for A/P or bridge mode. Just connect the switch to a LAN port on the A/P, setting up the wireless is easily accessed by typing dlinkap into the URL of your browser.

You would also get 3 more Ethernet ports once it's plugged in. The link below shows a good example.

I have a small network in my house and only one ADSL connection, alas right at one end of the property with no hope of moving the location of the modem/router anywhere else.

As my kids and I often use devices elsewhere we use WI FI wherever possible but it does not reach to most of the house so we have up until now been using a wifi extender - with very variable results!

The biggest issue again is range, due to the layout of the house its difficult to find a spot where the extender can receive a good signal then re transmit to the areas where it is needed. At one point I resorted to two extenders chained to push the signal further into the house but then we had speed and other issues.
Recently it was suggested I should consider using a "powerline" system - but having never used these before I wished to gather some opinions as to whether this would be a good idea or not.

On paper it seems such a system would help with my most acute problem and that is feeding my son's laptop at the very far end of the property (he needs a decent connection for his Uni work). If I have understood correctly he would be able to connect the laptop via Ethernet cable to the powerline and also use the wi fi for his phone. Would such a system give him better reliability? - at the moment the current wi fi drops out too easily there,

Secondly we have an issue where my daughter's Ipad seems to grab the extender wi fi and not let anyone else use it despite there being a reasonab... Read more

I just moved a computer for a friend from one room to another as they replaced it with a new one. That said the old one in the other room has no internet source. They want to use it in the other room. What would be the best way to get internet to that computer? It will be 20' or so from the router. It is not line of site but it is pretty close overall. I have not had to look for anything like this before so I am kind of out of the loop. Thanks.

There is a restaurant I go to which has WIFI. I always take my laptop. There is a better restaurant about 100 yards away but no WIFI. The WIFI will not reach from Restaurant A to Restaurant B. I usually park in between the two restaurants. I thought if I got a WIFI Extender and put it in my car, charged it with a USB plug in my cigarette lighter, I would have WIFI at Restaurant B. Two questions, this is my first experience with a WIFI Extender, have any of you used one and does my plan sound like it would work? Just reassure me that the WIFI Extender would not run down my battery for a couple hours use. --- One more thing, I have not found a WIFI Extender that uses a USB Plug, I assume there is a such thing. Does anyone know for a fact if there is a such thing? Thanks,

I have a Belkin router model F5D7633-5
I have recently bought a Edimax EW-7438RPn wireless extender as I live in a large house and am finding that the wireless signal for my android phone is only strong enough when I am in the same room as the router.
The Edimax instructions say to plug the extender initially into a wall near the router and then to press the WPS button on the router but I cannot find a WPS button!
The other option given is to set up the extender using a computer (My computer is in another room from the router I use an ethernet plug for connection. My OS is Windows 7) I have tried to put the given access code from Edimax in the browser but it says that 'the server cannot be found'
Please could you advise me, thank you

A:Wireless Extender help please

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is feature found on some wireless routers, to simplify connecting a wireless device to the router.

Does your computer normally use DHCP to get its IP address and DNS settings? I believe this is the default setting in Windows 7 and needs to be enabled to connect to the extender.

Are you putting the http://extenderxxxxxx address, found on the Edimax access card, into the browser's address box? The xxxxxx portion of address has to match what is found on your particular card.

Whenever I try to log into my VPN at work I am getting the following error:
(using IE11)
"SSL Network Extender Service is down and could not be started. Consider rebooting the computer."
(using Firefox)
"Java is Unavailable."
I have the latest version of Java and browsers all latest updates. I have read in other forums that this is not a unknown problem.

Initially upgraded to WIN10 from Win7. While I had several problems otherwise, I was always able to connect my VPN. Because of several other problems, I did a clean install of WIN10, which is when I started having this problem.

Any ideas?

I've been stuck in this same damn problem many times...
I have access to a hotspot account

I don't want to be in position X. Reception of hotspot is weak, but ok and constant in this position

I want to be in position Y. Reception is here. It's a massive pain and hit and miss constantly

Idea: get an extender to extend extend from X to Y
Is this possible?
The problem is that access is made by logging details into a browser + has to be re-logged in every hour

If the cost of such an extender was £10 - £20 I'd buy!

Thanks
OM

A:Can I get an extender for hotspots?

I've been looking into this exact problem recently, the problem is that a wireless extender traditionally works but logging into to the wireless network with the SSID and key. While in theory a wireless extender can do this it wont receive an internet connection unless logged in through a web browser (which it cannot do!). I havent tested this setup myself to see if you can connect to the extender and still get to the webpage to login, but the only other way I can see of doing it is setting up a second access point configured the same as the first hotspot :/

(My attempt was with my home's "BT WiFi" public hotspot, trying to extend it to a different area).

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as tywanda46. I can't ping to 192.168.2.2 and i can't connect to http://extenderXXXXXX. I used de 6 characters from my access key.
I can't attach the printscreen that i have made from the IPconfig /all in a DOSbox. The TSG editor asks for an URL with an image. They are on my disk as a jpg file.
Is there any way to help me/us?

A:Wireless Extender help please

HI canoeman, and welcome to TSG.

We prefer to keep different people with similar problems in separate threads. Trying to help two different people in one thread can get real confusing real fast. I have asked a Mod to break this out into a separate thread.

Don't do a screen capture. You need to select all of the text in the DOS screen's IPCONFIG /ALL report and copy it to the clipboard.

Ok im a little curious about buying a wireless extender. The problem is i'm not home much so theres really no sense in me paying almost 70 dollars a month for service. I pick up a bunch of unsecured wireless connections but its only in one window in my house and i literally HAVE to be IN the window which is very uncomfortable. I'm not worried about saftey since i dont give any information out on the computer anyways, so getting a unsecured connection does not bother me.I was wondering if there is an extender i can buy to place in my window and plug into my computer to allow me to get the signal. I have an Acer 5100. Or any other suggestions would be great....thanks

I have a new netgear n300range extender, have tried to install it so the router will see it, tried it in all rooms of home and the office where the router is, thought getting this extender would stop my ipad dropping out when in another room. The power LED & WPS LED lights up solid green but can't get the Router Link LED or Client ink LED. have turned off the router and (big pond Thomson TG782T) have a iMac5 running Yosemite 10.10.6 and a HP windows 8.1 connected. I have tried to connect it with WPS as in the booklet and also with web browser Setup still nothing neither computer can see the extender but it shows on the ipad as Big Pond Ext. any suggestions ??

I`m using the 3network for my broadband (wireless) and i`m trying to find a signal extender for it as the modem is in one end of the house and the signal is very weak at the other end of the house. I`ve been told that because the broadband is not ADSL or DSL that an ordinary router or access point will not work with it. I want to be able to connect the signal extender wirelessly to the modem.
The modem is an HUAWEI B260A.
I would really appreciate any help that anyone could give me on this, thanks.

I have a Netgear RangeMax Cable Router but still can't get a signal in a particular room in the house. The router is in the attic, three floors up.

If I get ONE OF THESE, can I just sit it on the landing, half way down, and give it a go?

Obviously I'll need to set it up, but once that's done can it just sit there, completely separate from the router, plugged into the power supply, and increase the signal downstairs?

Thanks.
