How should I recover lost files on my usb using a File Recovery Software?

Q: How should I recover lost files on my usb using a File Recovery Software?

A follow-up to my previous thread:
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic127696.html" target="_blank" class="wLink">http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic127696.html

I, with the help of other generous members, have concluded that my USB drive has automatically deleted the important & only files that I had on the drive... is there any file recovery software besides Recuva that are freeware and can restore the files from USB?

Anyone who needs more information is kindly requested to go back to the original thread ( http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic127696.html ) and he/she can infer what I am referring to.

Thank you in advance.

Preferred Solution: How should I recover lost files on my usb using a File Recovery Software?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

there are several software that you can use.
When it comes to recovering lost files, I prevfer Runtime's GetDataBack for FAT or NTFS, your USB Flash drive will most likely be running a fat file system, so use GetDataback for FAT.

Hello,

What do you mean when you say folder lock files? Do you mean it has the little lock icon next to the folder?

As for recover programs, we have used Easeus Data Recovery before which has worked well.

Also, I have moved your thread to another area on the forum as its not a network issue.

A:Recover Deleted Windows 7 Recovery Files from Recovery Drive

You might be able to use a free recovery tool like Recuva or MiniTool Partition Wizard. But there are no guarantees that all deleted files will be recovered or that they will be in a usable condition.

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

MiniTool Partition Recovery

It may be safer to contact HP support and buy a set of recovery disks for your particular machine. I'm taking a guess that you are in India?

Hello all, I have following trouble: my OS is Windows 8.1 64-bit. It boots just fine, but I suddenly found out that something wrong happened with my BCD store. Tried more workarounds but none worked. The last I found How To Restore Windows 8 Boot Options Menu ended on bcdedit error mentioned below. The problem indicates with following signs:
- bcdedit /enum prints error "The boot configuration data store could not be opened."
- bcdboot C:\windows prints error "BFSVC Error: BcdOpenSystemStore failed with unexpected error code, Status = [c000015c]"
- msconfig's boot tab shows empty OSes list (nothing on the tab is clickablle)
- the same with System Properties, Advanced tab, Startup and Restore dialog (OS dropdown has no entries)
- Trying to enter diagnostic boot by Shft + Restart doesnot seem to offer full recovery menu. It boots to GUI boot menu offering Continue or Troubleshooting, Troubleshooting submenu offers Manage UEFI options (this brings me to BIOS setup after reboot) and Shut down. No manage boot options, no other choices.
- Tried to fix system booting with Paragon advanced recovery CD, the fixes ended happily

All of this point me to that my booting configuration is somehow ill (I wonder a bit that Windows still can start).
Advices please. Thanks!

A:Problem - BCD store lost, can't recover + no recovery menu

Could you tell us exactly which procedure on your link you followed to cause the problem? You do have the recovery media the site suggests?

You say the system is booting normally, even with the errors?

Could you describe your configuration. A laptop with just Windows 8.1 installed? If you were trying to recover the GUI boot menu, what other OS are you booting with and how is it installed, same hard drive?

first: i am not sure if this is the proper chapter for my question. if you know a better one, please inform me - thanks.

i lost 3 important .mdb files: microsoft office access database files.
after scanning all my hard drives there seems to be one that still has them.
because if i search with the search application 'everything' one of the results shows:
contacts.mdb > F:\$RECYCLE.BIN\S-1-5-21-93802578-1502995298-2439517820-1000\$RR9R7V2 >> 66,232 KB
But:
1. inside F: i cannot locate any file/folder as mentioned above
2. within 'everything' the right mouse context menu contains the option 'restore' but that doesn't do anything
3. the app recover my files (and a similar one) bring up the same 3 .mdb files but they contain 0 kb, so recovering recovers nothing.

as far as i remember no new data have been written on F: since i deleted those 3 .mdb files.

what can i still do to recover them?
thanks for helping

Dell Latitude Laptop D600
windows xp sp3
Last night I just closed my laptop instead of shutting it down before going to sleep. When I woke up this morning and opened my laptop it wouldn't wake back up. The power button was lit and so were some other lights at the top of the keyboard but the screen just stayed black. I tried pressing keys on the keyboard and the mouse but nothing worked. Then I pressed the power button and eventually held down the power button- still nothing. So then I unplugged the laptop and removed the battery to shut it off.

When I plugged it back in and turned it on it seemed fine until windows started. Windows is acting as if it had never been used/ restored to factory settings. The familiar green hill and blue sky has returned as my wallpaper and a dialogue box asked me if i'd like to take a tour. All of my programs are still here but all of my settings for them and all of my text/music/video/photo files have been lost. Is there any chance of getting them back? Fortunately, I bought an external drive last week and was in the process of backing data up. Unfortunately, I only got through my photos.

Thanks

I downloaded Microsoft Framework 3.5 today and after it was installed, my computer froze up. I restarted my computer and it led me to the login page where you have to select which account and you type in your password. I selected my account, typed in my password, and then the startup screen would freeze, and eventually it would restart by itself.

I pressed F10 when my computer restarted because that is how I get to the system recovery page. It says that I am able to recover my files after this so I decided to do it.

After everything was set up, the computer still recognized my video driver. It would say I have a Nvida Gforce but once the computer was started up, it tells me to install it using a CD!

I check my C drive and I still see that the memory used was the same as before I did my system recovery!

I go to my System Restore page and tried to boost up my restore points but it only shows today as a restore point. It doesn't show the days before I did my system restore?

My question is, how can I retrieve my old files when it is all still in my computer? The memory used is the same... which means that my old files are still in there, right?

Thanks,
Brandon.

EDIT: I have a HP computer, by the way.

A:Recover Lost Files?

It's odd that all of your restore points are gone. If you had just booted up, you could undo the last restore, but I think thats far gone by now. Open up system restore and check, it might still work.

If not, you could use a recovery program, such as "Undlete" to restore the files. There are a few free utilities out there that will do this for you. Just google "recover list files". I use R-Studio, which works real well.

Good Luck!

Last night when I was planning to continue to write my paper for the final semester of my sophomore year, I found that my paper was gone and I tried to find it everywhere but I got no trace of my paper. I tried to recall what I did to my Dell Laptop, then I remembered that the day before yesterday I deleted some useless files and documents from the hard disk for releasing more space and speeding up my PC. And I emptied the recycle bin immediately. I was so helpless and got no idea how to deal with it.  I don’t really want to start to rewrite from the very beginning again. Is there any way to do free hard disk data recovery? Is it possible to do hard disk data recovery? Who can help me? If you know some good hdd recovery software, please reply me. Thank you!

Most of the time, when I add more files to a cd-r I've already put files on, it works fine. I used NTI 6Platinum.

Usually a box will come up when I start to put more on, asking if I'd like to load the first session and add these to it which is recommended. I've learned from experience if I don't do it this way only the CURRENT files I put on show on the cd after that and the original ones are "gone". I was never sure what the options meant, it doesn't say if you don't pick it (load previous session and add to it) you will lose everything already on the cd. I thought it just meant it was put on separate, in some way. But they'd all still be there.

Sometimes the box asking this doesn't come up and if I continue with it, only the ones from the current session show.

I've been keeping a running backup on MY PICTURES for over a year now (not always with NTI) and continually put in the latest cd (I'm up to #9) and add pictures to it (it will ask if I want to load the current files and add to it)

Today, I wanted to add 2 small video clips my daughter has been sending me to a cd I had started, that had 2 previous ones on it. They are quite small, MPEG (taken with her digital camera).

I had the 2 new ones on my desktop, and like to store this stuff on a cd to save room.

I put them on using NTI (NO box came up, asking if I'd like to load the previous session, but I thought this might be due to the type of files). I ... Read more

My computer froze when I was using windows media player as it does from time to time. I had to reboot it manually. When I turned it back on it was getting stuck on the startup page and was taking forever. I had to reboot it manually again. When I finally did get it to work and it went through the disk check process, it took an unusually long time. I chose an option that said something like, return computer to the last point where the system was stable. When the computer finally finished booting up after about 45 minutes, it was as if the last year never happened. The date was correct but many of my files were missing. I tried to restore the system to yesterdays date using system restore but it did not recover the missing files. I have one very important file on excel that I need to figure out how to get back. There is no sign of it anywhere except when I pull up recent documents on excel. When I click on that though, it cannot find the file. Please help. Is there any way to try and recover this file or any of my other ones. There is only one file I really care about to tell you the truth. Thanks for any help I can get.

A:Lost files, how do I recover, help!!!!

There are recovery programs but there is a catch.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pcinspector.html

You must immediately stop using the computer, every operation risks over-writing the data you want to recover.

Also you cannot recover the file (assuming it's available) back to the same hard drive.
You need to take out the hard drive and slave it to another system using XP or 2000.

Try the recovery from there, but you will have to "take ownership" of the files.

Recovering the file from a routine backup of your valuable data is much easier, and something you may choose to consider doing after this?

Hi, my first post here...

My friend recently lost (no idea how, says she clicked on some "buttons") over 20 pages of her Word document she was working on. Unfortunately she didn't save it on disk or made prints. Now, she didn't use her PC after that file was lost, so I guess there was a slight chance I could find it.
It turned out, that this is not as easy as it seemed: I tried several recovery programs, many of them found that document (differet sizes though), but it was either corrupted, coded (some boxes appeared instead of letters) or transformed into *TMP files. Any idea how could I get the right *.DOC format back or which tool to use to succesfully discover missing file? Does anyone know, how to convert that *.TMP to *.DOC since it seems it's the same thing (date and time of modification are the same)?

Thank you for your answers!

Hey Guys. My name is Jeremy and I have Windows XP Operating System, I am very upset at the moment. I just hooked up my new external hard drive on Saturday , and I tried to cut and paste a folder from my F drive into this new E drive. I got a message saying it could not move all the files in because it was being used by another program. So I went to move the files that were transferred to the E drive back to the F Drive with this software caled [email protected] It asked me if I wanted to replace F:// with the files. I clicked yes thinking the files would be moved into the F drive. You have to re-boot for the files to be moved with the software.. so i re-booted and everything from my F Drive was gone... so basically I saved over my whole F Drive, and nothing was transferred anyway.

So I lost all of the music I downloaded through the years which included thousands of MP3's. I also lost all the wav files for personal songs I've made, all recording sessions that I've saved on this computer dating back to 2005, all the epidodes of tv shows i kept on there, and all the cut segments and performances from american idol episodes I took hours and hours to cut and re-encode over the past 2 years.

Hi Jeremy,
Sorry about your loss, but the data can still be in the external drive - if you haven't overwritten them. Have a look at this page: http://nisheet.jain.googlepages.com/howtorecoverlostfilesafteryouaccidentallywipeyourharddrive

I have not used the program myself, but it seems to work fine. The only thing is that you do not write on the drive E. It might not be a bad idea using a different disk altogether where to put the data as you recover them.

Good luck. Let me know if you succeeded.

Hi,
I have a client who experienced a bsod - "Unmountable_Boot_Volumne" - using winxp sp2 - i fixed this by running a chkdsk /r via a xp boot disk - it reported a number of bad sectors and fixed a number of incorrect links. The machine restarted ok and was able to login back in ok.
However.. the client has now lost all user data within his users profile - mainly under My Documents, Outlook data files and outlook address book.
I have looked all over his machine and these files do not exist anywhere now.
My guess is that the corruption fixed by chkdsk has lost the file table pointers to these files/folders.
Is there any app and/or procedure to allow us to recover some of these "lost" files?
The client is desperate, as he has no backup and has many years of personal data now lost - he is aware that backups should have been done. But if you can assist he would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks

I recently (yesterday) had an issue where my PC green screened and then wouldn't boot windows. After running several diagnostics to make sure it wasn't hardware related I decided to reinstall windows, problem, I have several important documents and media files on my hard-drive that aren't backed up yet (stupid I know), however, this isn't a problem as hp recovery manager presents me with the option to back up my files before I reset, brilliant. I create the backup media, then reset. After boot up everything runs smoothly until I try to use the media backup I created, Hp recovery manager says it can't run a media recovery as it's no longer supported after windows upgraded. My PC came installed with windows 10, I created the backup with the same version, literally everything is the same. For some reason I can't recover my data despite the fact that its sitting on my external hard-drive (in the hp back up format). Please help, if I'd known there was an issue I'd have removed the hard-drive and had my data recovered.

So, my problem started earlier this week when I tried to scan my Hard Drive using my antivirus system. Never do that.
My Vaoi laptop froze at 27% during the scan, and I had to manually shut it off (hold down the power button) and then restart it. Well, it started the scan again, and got stuck again, so I had to restart it again. The next time, I was able to read this millisecond long message about how to "cancel dskchk by pressing any key", so I did, but then it just took forever to load and opened on an error message saying that windows couldn't load, or something along those lines.

Eventually, after figuring out how to open safe mode, I tried to use a Restore point (which didn't work), Refresh the System (which couldn't complete), do a lot of maintenance scans (none of which helped), consult the internet off of my friend's computer (where I heard about the windows.old folder), and then I was finally forced to use the Vaio Recovery Tool and do an emergency backup onto my new External Hard Drive... It semi-worked, but a lot of my files weren't passed over to the external drive, and I'd like to get them back.

The files I care about are mostly image and document files (jpg, bmp, Word, and Notepad) and the folders they were in were all on my Desktop, but I don't know how to get them back. Some are there, some aren't, it's all just really confusing. So, now, I'm currently running three different Data Recovery programs ... Read more

A:How can I recover lost/deleted files after a Windows 8 reset?

Thanks for the alert about the dup. thread. I closed it.

When you don't have a backup I don't know what can be done except for trying recovery software, as you have, or if the data has suddenly become very important there are companies who can, at least sometimes, succeed where free software fails.

Does anyone know how I can recover a lost file(s) after deleting a User on WinXP. I did not click the option to "Keep Files".

Thoughts?

A:Solved: Recover lost files after deleting User

If the machine is turned off immediately, since every second it runs means more of the files lost, you can use a file recovery program to look for them. In Vista and 7, shadow copies will still be present and can be restored. But not in nearly-prehistoric XP.

I'm trying to help out a friend recover their files. They performed a system recovery using the system recovery cd and they responed "yes" to back up the files before the recovery process started. I can see the folder on the c drive that says MY BACKUP 1-25-09 and can open the folders and files. Now how do they put those files back where they were? Before we do something dumb I would like some expert advice. Thanks!

I'v carelessly reset my system (win 10 ent. LTSB, 64bits) due to some problem. But I forgot to take backup of some important files (in my desktop) & bookmarks (of chrome, firefox & srware iron browsers) . Are there anyway to recover those files+bookmarks? or Can I have a rollback to pre-reset state?

Following a number of unexpected shut downs I decided to run the system recovery discs on my old advent 7109 xp comp. These are 5 discs which were made when the laptop was new; They have never been used - until now. The process stopped during recovery disc 2, with the message unable to recover c/136/s3sav3d.in_

since then I can go no further; each time I start the comp it is at the same recovery point at which it stopped.
Is there any hope of being able to fix this? And, in case you're wondering why I'm still using XP. It's an old back up that I use for documents etc

A:XP System Recovery unable to recover file

The only thing you can do, as far as I can see, is start the recovery again with Disk 1 and hope it can read all of Disk 2 this time.

Had a power failure during a recovery of an Acronis backup on my C: drive. It seems it happened while Acronis just started loading the backup files? When I restarted the Samsung Laptop local drive C: did not appear in Explorer. Only drive D: and my DVD drive E: appeared (C an D are partitions on the same hard disk). The recovery software was on a hidden partition but when trying to use the Samsung Recovery facility it say Drive C: not found.

After trying out suggestions found on the internet I only managed to screw everything up resulting in also loosing the D: drive containing my Acronis backup. The laptop did not start at all. I at last managed to get it going after installing Windows 7 again and I then sit with only C System Disk, D System reserved and E: DVD drive at that point.

Foolishly I shrinked the system disk C and created a data disk. That disk is now Data Disk F. and not D as original.

The Acronis backup containing all my files and data was on the original Data Disk D:

I desperately need to recover that .tib file to get all my documents, data et back.

I have used various free software to try and find that specific file. But they all search by drive and the missing file must be somewhere on the disk either as lost or wrong drive letter or something.

I know it all was really stupid of me so I now really need expert heavyweight help in trying to locate and recover that specific .tib file somewhere on the hard disk?

Welcome,
This is a hard one, the best software that I am aware of is Recuva
Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download
If that does not work, the next best suggestion is to download and use windirstat, it will show you everything that is on your drive.

I have recently suffered a crash of my external 1Tb Western Digital hard drive.

The local computer firm said it was not recoverable but as I had over 300Gb of mp3 and jpegs on it I thought I would plug it in and see.

After a short while looking my computer found the drive again and I transfered about 200Gb to mine and my wife's internal hard drives.

Now it has stopped working again and shows up in my computer as Local disk - Unlabeled volume 2.

Can you recommend any software that might give me a chance of recovering the other 100Gb - it doesn't have to be free software as I am happy to pay for it if it is gauranteed to work.

Hi, anyone know of a program that will data recover MPEG-2 movies that were accidentally removed from my Recycle Bin? I have tried several programs, including Recover My Files, GetDataBack, Stellar Phoenix - one found no files, the other found 1300 files (where there should only be about 10), and the other found the right amount, but the files themselves were absolutely huge, so it must have merged the missing MPEG-2s to some of the other movies that weren't deleted.

Can anyone please suggest a way out of this, either by naming a program that can recover MPEG-2s, or a setting that I need change on one of the progs that I've already tried?

Thank you.
