Q: Solved: An Error Has Occured In Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will now close - HIJACK

I have been whacking my head against the wall. I have removed all entries that Ad-Ware can find. I have the most recent version of Adrware SE and the most recent definition files.

I keep getting "An Error Has Occurred in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will now close." Any help would be appreciated tremendously. Here is my hijak log:

Preferred Solution: Solved: An Error Has Occured In Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will now close - HIJACK

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi.. I don't know if this is the right section, please correct me if it's wrong. Here is the problem:

My Internet Explorer 7 gives the error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I cannot complete the troubleshooting. It states that there might be a problem with my firewall settings. But my Firefox works perfectly on this computer. I have completed all the steps given in this link. However, it didn't work. I cannot run MSN right now because of this. And this is not a problem that developed recently, on this computer I have never managed to run Internet Explorer.

And another point to mention: Whenever I try to visit a site via IE7, before giving "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, on the status-bar I see a warning for a second such that a "dns error" or something.

I have also searched this forum for this, I have found some posts consisting HJT logs but could not reached a solution for my problem. Could you please help? Thank you.

My other computer is giving me fits. When I open IE it says a error has occured and must close; do I want to report this? I say NO and that's all IE will do. Bottom line IE is now useless. I have run Spybot, Adaware, Microsoft Spyware (Beta), and Norton antvirus. All have been updated prior to execution. Every time I these utilities there is a bunch of crap it finds and gets rid of bt it all seems to regenerate. I have gone into the regestry to clean up a bunch of the start up junk but back it comes!! This is my Daughter's computer and she has obviously picked something up. My Hijack This log is below. I have this on 2 independant pc's. Explorer can show some home pages but reports error with most others and if I do manage to acces a site the same error shows if I go to another page.
Error mesage: IE has encountered an error with this site and must close. send error report appears, do send or not, IE closes and restarts, Reports tab is recovered and then goes round the loop again and again.

Friend instructed following:
Options/ browser history- SetDiskspace used to 50 (was 1024)!
open Advanced tab/click restore advanced settings. close.
Open tools/Manage add ons, disable or remove all unwanted add ons.
Restart IE
This worked ok so repeated on 2nd PC.
This worked,
Went to 1st PC and the problem reappeared after a few minutes
Same on 2nd PC.
Did complete AVG virus scan and spybot scan on both with no problems.

IE8 still not working

Downloaded Firefox which works fine on both PC's Now able to upgrade AVG free to v.9

Up you Microsoft!

Hi, all. I am having a problem when I go to open a PDF file, I get an error message saying that IE needs to close. The error message contains the file name acropdf.dll. I donít know if this problem is related to the recent virus my computer got, or that I just upgraded to WXP Service Pack 2. Any help would be appreciated. Also, can anyone tell me if PDF files involve Java? Thank you.

Hi guys

I hope that you can help me with a annoying problem I have.
A portion of IE is open in the left top corner of my screen, size (about 5 X 5cm). Unfortunately I cannot close it as the close, full screen, and minimize buttons are not on the screen. How do I close it or get rid of it as seems seems to be active.
If I right click on the screen and go to google sidewiki I get the IE script error as per attachment.

Kind regards

Ctrl+Alt+Del and “End Task” the program in Task Manager >Application. I would Reboot after you get things back to normal. Evidently a download is locking something in, so there might be more than one application to end.

Your attached file produces only an error message for me-

I think you want to take a screenshot of the issue, in that case, you need to open MS Paint after pressing the Print Screen button on the keyboard while you are looking at the issue you want to take a shot of.... Hit the Edit tab at the top of the window in Paint program, then hit Edit again, and this time hit Paste and the file should display on screen.... then, save the file as a .jpg file and then try again to attach it to a new reply.

Hello, I have a brand new dell. Less then 2 days old. Computer is running great, super fast. But i already am running into a small problem. When i close internet explorer after visiting a simple website like yahoo or google it closes fine. But when i close a site that contains a flash game or shockwave game an error message pops up. With the windows report box. It dosn't give any info about the error, just that it should be reported. Any Glue? It's so hard to uninstall IE in XP, and re-install won't work either. Thanks in advance! ~Jordan~

Hello everyone and thank you for participating in this wonderful site.

My computer is a Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz, Running Windows XP Proffessional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.
The problem I'm writing about has been there for about a year. All in all it's the same prolem ever since, but every once in a while some detail changes, like a new error message.
Every about 5-15 minutes the Start Menu Taskbar and the desktop icons disappear (Explorer crushes). Most of the times they reappear shortly after, but sometimes they don't, and then I use task manager to run explorer and then they reappear. Yet, sometimes the computer stucks altogether, and I have to restart. In addition to that, many popups open when I surfe the web using Internet Explorer. The popup changes every few days, but in between it's always the same one.
Another point is that while the crushing of explorer can occur anytime, it most often occurs while I open or close Internet Explorer windows.

Sometimes I get an error message, and as I said, they change from time to time. But still, here are 2:

rundll32.exe - Application Error

When I close out Internet Explorer and i return to my desktop I get a program called "Purity Scan" saying that it is closing and then states that it can't close. I don't know what "purity scan" is but I then have to manual say "end now"

Any recommendations to fix this problem? I have Windows XP loaded on the desktop.

A:prgoram won't close when I close Internet Explorer

See if its in your Add / Remove Programs. If so use this feature to get rid of it.

Here are posts regarding same on another forum -

Not sure but Spybot Search & Destroy may help to completely delete all traces of this Purity Scan. Get Spybot from here :

Once you have it - Run - click Online - Check for Updates - once you have them - close IE and in Spybot click Check for Problems and have it Fix all checked.

If it still persists please post back here.

Hi... I recently had my Internet explorer hijacked. I had all kinds of things added to my browser (new home page, sleazy search

page, sleazy favorites among lots of other things...it even made my home page a bogus warning about having my privacy completely

compromised) I went offline and did the following ... virus check, hijack this, and spybot(after a long overdue update). I had hijack this

correct the most obvious sex related entries. Spybot located several entries for "coolwwwsearch" (all were related to Internet Explorer).

I had it correct these entries. The corrections didn't do anything. When I went online I was still hijacked. I decided to do a system

restore and this solved my problem. All signs of a hijacking disappeared. After this I downloaded all the appropriate patches from

Microsoft. I ran hijack this and the log seems to be normal (see below). However I decided to run Spybot again and it found the entries

for coolwwwsearch again (see below). Are these entries still valid? They say "registry change, nothing done". Is that a reference to the

previous state changes made by system restore. My system is working fine. Should I have Spybot correct them again. Is spybot making

an error related to system restore? Should I uninstall Spybot and reinstall? Please help I want to make sure my system is virus and

hijack free. I haven't had any problems for a whole year. One foul click ruined my run! Any info is appreciated.

So I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I recently hooked my computer up to my TV with a VGA cable and tried out IE on the TV screen for a few minutes to see what it looked like. Then I moved it back onto my screen and ever since then I've been trying to figure out how to close it. When I try to close it it just makes a bell noise and although I can open and close tabs, I can't close the original tab even when others are open. I'm getting really pissed off. I usually use Firefox but I have it optimized for my netbook and I had to use IE to drag over onto the other screen so I just want to get this program off my screen and probably off my computer next.

EDIT: Also I don't know what this means, but I'm running Windows 7 and I just noticed that when I scroll over the IE icon at the bottom it shows each tab open, but I have 3 tabs open and it's only showing the two that will close. The other doesn't show up.

Download and run malwarebytes

Go to tools

It happens when i am surfing the web. the connection does not close right away but will eventualy shut down and i am left looking at my desktop. This is a problem as i loose what ever info i have at the time and generally just ticks me off. I have been searching the internet for information on what is happening and have been advised to do the following:

*run scan disk &defrag for internet files, temporary files, and recycle bin. (did that - sill problem)
*download spybot and fix what it says to (did that -still problem)

There is a lot of info out there but most of it requires more brain cells than i am able to part with right now. I just want to be able to surf the web without being thrown off!!

Welcome to BC! I would recommend following the Preparation Guide to posting a HiJackThis log. You may not need to actually post a log, however. If you follow the instuctions in the Preparation Guide faithfully then your computer may be cleaned. However, rarely is a computer infected with only one thing, and it is possible that some of them will not get removed using this method. If after completing all of the steps in the Preparation Guide you continue to have issues, post a HiJackThis log as instructed in the Preparation Guide.PREPARATION GUIDEIf you have any questions regarding any part of the instructions, don't hestitate to ask, because we will answer your questions or direct you to a tutorial that will explain the answer.

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close etc

I get this dozens of times a day and do not know why it keeps happening. I looked at the error report details (which was huge and indecipherable) and it said the following will be included in the report;

more often than not it happens just as a site is loading (in the above case CBSsportsline) but not always and on many different sites.

Sometimes if I type a URL into the address bar and press 'go' nothing happens yet I can reach the same site through my favorites, on other occasions a site will load yet clicking on links has no effect.

Would this all be part of the same problem?

I cannot close internet explorer or any tabs. I am pretty sure its to do with the permissions, and I changed them in the security tab you can get to the properties, I even took ownership of the program and I tried running it as administrator but still no dice.

Could it be something in the registry changed?
