ThinkPad S3 Yoga 14 20DM003RGE switch or sensor for operating modes is defective

Q: ThinkPad S3 Yoga 14 20DM003RGE switch or sensor for operating modes is defective

Hi folks, I have a ThinkPad S3 Yoga 14 20DM003RGE and I suspect that a switch or sensor is defective. In the BIOS the keyboard works without problems and when installing Windows the touchpad also works. After installing Windows 10, neither the keyboard nor the touchpad works in Windows itself. The switch or sensor that deactivates the keyboard in tablet mode is obviously defective. Now I'd like to know how to disable this switch in Windows so that the keyboard and touchpad work again. In other words, the keyboard should be enabled in notebook mode and in tablet mode. Does anyone know which registry entry disables the keyboard and touchpad in tablet mode? Or how can I reactivate these components?I'd also like to know exactly where this switch is so I can replace it later. Best regards

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone. After a new install from scratch on Windows 10 that incredibly fixed a lot of issues and boosted the performance of the Yoga 3 Pro I have, only one thing is remaining in my problem list. For some reason, when I flip into tent mode or tablet mode, it doesn't automatically switch to tablet mode and I have to do it manually. All the drivers work, no problem with screen rotation or anyhting else, I enabled the function "don't ask me and activate automatically tablet mode" in the system parameters but that doesn't change anything.

Is it coming from formatting my PC and not using Harmony anymore ? I'm out of ideas right now.Thank you in advance !

Hi, Today (or last night, not sure) three columns of my TPY 460's digitizer seem to have stopped working. Two of them are right next to each other, the third one a little further to the right. (I'm guessing the number of columns by the distance of the small dots that you can see on the display when you look at it from an angle). When I tap the pen onto the two defective columns, nothing happens, when I drag it across, it stops on one side and then jumps to the other. It's similar for the single column, but there isn't a complete stop and a jump, more of a non-linearity, the cursor moves slower, then faster, then slower again. For finger touch, the problem is similar. Is this a common problem that can be fixed by properly plugging  some cables or should I return the computer? (It's a demopool device, so I have no warranty, but I can return it within two weeks without a reason).

Hi, Let me first explain what has been the path with my S1 for you to better understand the issue. At first i had ghosting problem and i decided to replace the screen, at the same time the notebook began to show some more problems, it would not boot at all some times until it went dead. At that point i decided to change the motherboard also. My model originally came with i7-4500, but i decided to get a motherboard with i5-4200.So now i have both changed the screen and the motherboard. Luckily the notebook is working now and seems all fine except the autorotation. I have done some reading and i know that it might be some issue with windows 10, but my concern is that it might be a hardware problem also related to the motherboard and lcd change. In Device manager i see the HID sensor collection v2 installed correctly but its not working. Also i noticed that when i change to tablet mode the touchpad does not disable, and i wonder if that might be a sensor issue too.So my main question is where is the sensor responsible for the autorotaion located?? i have a doubt if it is the p-sensor located under the battery but im not sure. What do tou guys think, should i investigate further in the software side or it might be hardware problem?? Thanks.

So I don't use my thinkpad usualy in tablet mode, but today i did and when I tried to turn the laptop the screen of course remained still, so I started digging. There are a lot of solutions on the web for this, but none helped me so far, the interesting thing is that there is no option to enable or disable the auto-rotation in the settings or the action center. Updated all the drivers, also the hardware seems to work properly. I hope somebody encountered and solved this issue and can help me as well.Cheers, Dan.??

I've been having trouble with the fingerprint sensor on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga laptop (type 20FR) for the last week. It is now completely unresponsive after working just fine for months. In device manager it says "This device cannot start (Code 10)." I've tried disabling/enabling the device form device manager, uninstalling/re-installing the drivers, and wiping stored fingerprints from the BIOS settings. After wiping the fingerprints from BIOS settings and re-programming the fingerprint sensor from the Windows Hello settings menu, it worked for a day, but then the issue with the finger print sensor crashing returned. What do I do?

Hi, I recently ordered the new Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2018 with i7-8550U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and HDR Display (Campus Edition). The first unit had two red glowing pixels and dust between the digitizer and the display layer. So I sent it back and ordered a new one - this one was even worse, much more dust under the screen (seen as dark black spots). See my other post for pictures.Yeah, I sent it back and so one and so one. In total had four devices. 3/4 had red glowing pixels. 3/4 had dust under the screen. That is not acceptable for such a premium device.

So I have five options for a screen brightness: Darkest, Darker, Suggested, Brighter, Brightest. So the "Suggested" options, as it may seems, supposed to use the light sensor and adjust the screen brightness corespondedly but instead it has the fixed brightness level, right in the middle between Darker and Brighter. It can never be the "Darker" or the "Brightest" as you may expect, it has always fixed value.  So my question is: Are there a way to make the light sensor actualy do the usefull job?

Since installing Windows Updates on Jan 2, 2018 my TPYoga 12 has been giving BSOD's when waking from sleep. The message is "Attempted switch from dpc". It happens at least once a day now. Sometimes the next boot is successful, and sometimes it happens a second time after the system tries to reboot which then shows a diagnostic screen. Choosing to boot as normal from that diagnostic screen then does boot successfully. This is on a system running Win10 Pro V1709 build 16299.192.  I have seen one other user with a TPY12 report this recently (see post in german). Looking at many posts regarding this specific message over the years it seems to be related to a driver issue. Given the rather intense troubleshooting instructions for issues like these I'm hoping someone here has found a fix.  Below a screencap of my deteriorated system reliability.

Some more searching led me to this post stating that it's related to the Synaptics touchpad driver. Windows did install four Synaptics items the day before things went bad. I have uninstalled the touchpad driver in Device Manager, re-downloaded the driver package from Lenovo's driver page, and installed it. Let's hope this fixes it, and let's hope Windows doesn't "update" the driver again.  For the record, here are the updates that ran right before the problem appeared:

Hello guys I am having some first world problems,
Well I have a weird setup between my monitors and I would like to easily switch between them all.
I have 3 configurations I want to have,
1 : Eyefinity: Which basically makes my 3 monitors behave like a Single Large Surface(SLS). Resolution 46XX by 900
2 : Center : Turn off my monitor on the left and right and keep center only. Sometimes I want to run games at max high settings. Resolution 1440 X 900
3 : Panasonic : I want my Panasonic to be the main display. Resolution 1280 by 720

What software will help me with this I been trying to use AMD Vision software but it doesn't seem to work. I would assume that the presets would do such job.

A:Quickly switch between desktop modes?

So I think AMD software has presets but they are a pain to setup!
So far I am able to switch between center and eyefinity but I need to do more testing to make sure it all works fine and that I can quickly change between any mode including Panasonic mode

I have the following notebook.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Proffesional x64.
I used the Asus CD to install all Asus stuff. Even the ones I don't need.

My notebook as two graphics cards. The default Intel Onboard card and the more powerful 1GB nVidia GeForce GT425M 1GB video card.
Before the upgrade (which was a clean install) when I played a game (left 4 dead2, call of duty: black ops) the notebook automatically switched from the Intel to the Nvidia graphics card. But it doesn't anymore.
I have read that my notebook used Nvidia Optimus technology to do this.
Although I can't seem to be able to solve the problem.

Since a series of recent updates (Windows 10 updates and BIOS), my Adaptive Function Keys won't switch modes. The function key strip is stuck in the F-key mode. Function keys F1 through F12 work OK, as do the additional four icon keys on the right-hand end. But they won't auto switch based on foreground application as set in Control Panel->Adaptive Keyboard, nor do they obey the default mode as set in the control panel applet, nor will they switch manually when I press the Fn key on the strip. "Fn and function keys" is listed under System Devices in the Device Manager, using driver version 9.0.2.18 dated 02/11/2018. I've downloaded the HOTKEYS driver and reinstalled it successfully, but with no change. What can I do to re-enable the autoswitch (or even manual switch) capability of the Adaptive Function Keys?

Hi, November 28, 2016  the Thinkpad P50 was shipped .December 16 it finally arrives with no working usb on motherboard.Contacted tech support and was informed that this is a known issue. Was informed that I could return for repair {which could take long time 6 weeks} or visit the nearest authorized repair dealer 10 minutes from my house. I chose repair thinking it would be quicker.. Dropped it off then contacted Lenovo to confirm the deposit.Upon talking with another Rep, I was informed that I might have to pay charges. Crazy, I can't pay for repairs on a new product. Best thing she offered was a replacement, but I needed to get laptop back from repair shop. Ran back next morning to get back laptop.Shipped out P50 to Lenovo on 27th of December  they received it on 29th.I was then given a date of January 10 for replacement arrival. I see the date has now moved to January 23 2017 as they have no motherboards. The nightmares are real. This is no Joke. Shipping date is listed as SUNDAY January 15.After hours wasted on the phone I have been reassured with offers of call backs and emails that never came.I am lost. How can this happen? 2 Months to get a working laptop?

Original title was:
??Pro L40 - Location of Lid Closed/Open switch/sensor??

The moderator (?) changed it to:
??Satellite Pro L40: black screen but faint image in the background??

This is the reason why I am posting again; What I am looking for -- at this stage, at least -- is _specifically_ the LOCATION OF THE LID SWITCH on the L40, NOT how to recover my screen in general.

Note: My laptop is a Pro L40 but I understand that its in many ways identical to the L45 model (UK and USA models?)

QUESTION: Does anyone know exactly where the LID OPEN/CLOSED SWITCH/SENSOR is located?
I have been unable to find it, although I have completely dismantled the unit.

I would much appreciate any help.

Thanks and regards
Nicolas

I?m not quite sure about the position but LCD module is connected to the 30pin CON1202 (CON1202 can be found within a small LVDS bay which is placed at the bottom of the unit)
The 5pin of the CON1202 connector provides the signal for the LID switch On/OFF.

For about a year now, my Yoga 910 refuses to enter the "modes" or rotate the screen on its own. Needless to stay, the issue is still here. I will provide any info necessary to get this figured out once and for all. Hello

I have a problem with satellite C650D. My friend was working on it and she closed the lid after, and then when she open it again it wasn't working. When u press start button the 2 lights comes on, u can hear cd spinning and fan but theres is nothing on the screen, and u cant hear hard drive working. Nothing change when i switch the ram or even take it out of the laptop. Tried with battery only and on power cord only. Also did that thing about 5 times, with holding power button for 30-60 sec to clear the circuit. Im computer technician myself and tried a number of things and here i think it could be related to lid closer sensor or reed switch.
I would greatly happy if someone here could advise me where that thing might be. On the motherboard or maybe the hinges?
Soldering is not a problem although i hope it wont be necessary.

Please help.

Dear Lenovo. I would like to share my frustration on the experience with my Yoga 13 2 laptop. The time and effort that has been wasted getting the device repaired and talking to John Lewis is just astonishing. I have had two issues with the laptop and the first one got repaired after a long delay and the second time round (recent) has been rejected. The second issue I had is with the defective USB 3 port (blue), whereby the plastic has fallen apart due to poor material used. The report provided advised that this was damaged, under wear and tear. This is just not the case because the port was only used with a mouse. This is an unacceptable response considering that this is a wider issue as found on this very forum. I am not happy and would like Lenovo to contact me. Kindest Regards Mr Luong

Hi forums, it seems that my old 11S might be breaking down on me...So laptop mode, tent mode all work fine as far as I can tell.  However, when I fold the laptop all the way (Tablet Mode), it will start bugging out, constantly locking and unlocking rotation, and enabling and disabling rotation. I can't quite tell if this is caused by physical motion, but if it is, its sensitive to the slightest jolt or pressure.  At this point I'm attributing the problem to hardware, but is there anything I can do to remediate this?  I don't really mind opening it up either, its way past warranty.  Thanks!

My Lenovo 900 seems to have a defective trackpad.  The trackpad seems to have two separate clicks to it... which makes it very annoying to use.  When I'm simply moving my cursor around (not engaging a "click" on the trackpad) the pad constantly makes an annoying clicking sound as my finger lightly glides on and off the trackpad surface.  It feels like the trackpad surface is not attached properly and is loose.   Anyone else having this problem?

Mine is somewhat similar, through not nearly as bad. You'll notice that the bottom of the touch pad is not flush with the rest of the laptop causing a slight rattle. These laptops aren't cheap, so swap it out for another one because they're not supposed to be like this.

Hello all, I hope you are doing well I purchased my T460P slightly over a year ago. When it arrived, the fingerprint sensor worked perfectly fine. Then I did a reset of Windows 10 and found that the sensor would not work. I got a error Code 10 in device manager. Some research unearthed the fact that this was a known issue when resetting Windows 10 and the only solution was a clean install. Today, after finding the time to backup all my files, I finally did do my clean install of Windows 10. However, I run into the same issue. After installing all drivers and getting everything to work fine, the fingerprint sensor still shows a yellow exclamation mark in device manager and the error: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I made sure to format my hard drive when installing and did a complete clean install with no leftover data from my previous install. I downloaded the latest driver from the support page and have also updated BIOS to the latest version (as of November 1 2017). I'm not quite sure what to do next. I know there is no hardware issue as the sensor was working fine and it was the initial reset that caused it to stop working. The laptop has been taken care of well and has had no falls or knocks. I would appreciate any input and thank you for your time in advance

When I run my finger across the fingerprint sensor, the light is disabled as my finger gets close to the sensor.  Its almost as though it is detecting the change in the light.  I don't know if this is normal, but the end result is that upon swiping a finger, it does not read it and thus cannot be used.  Periodically, the light will stay on and Windows Hello will have no reaction.  Other times, ocassionally, when the finger is rolled to one side, then it flash orange and say it cannot read it. I get the impression that a USB reset is occuring.  Is there any tool to check the fingerprint sensor?  Or does anyone have any ideas?

I'm not referring to the sticker that goes on top of the touchpad but the actualy board that goes beneath it on the underside of the plastic case.I ripped the old touchpad sensor mouse board from the old palmrest and tried to attach it to the new one without any success. So, I purchased a replacement touchpad  sensor mouse board from eBay (Touchpad Sensor Mouse Board Synoptics TM1240) and I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out how to properly apply it.Here are some photos for reference:The other side of the Touchpad Sensor Mouse BoardThe adhesive side of the Touchpad Sensor Mouse BoardThe underside of the palmrest. The Touchpad Sensor Mouse Board goes in that rectangle.I guess I want to know how I should orient the touchpad sensor mouse board. I would also appreciate any general advice on how to best complete this task. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Randomly the sensor just stopped working and in the sign-in options, fingerprint isn't even an option. Windows hello says it is not available on this device. The biometrics was hidden in device manager and I uninstalled it. Downloaded the drivers from the lenovo support site and restarted, which did not work. Now the biometrics isn't even showing in the device manager. Any suggestions? My experience with Lenovo has been a mixed-bag...by far the best thinkpad I've owned and it was working great until it randomly starts dropping wifi connections and now the fingerprint reader. I don't understand how things just stop working all of a sudden. I make sure to keep the system updated - are there bad updates out there?

Getting error "sensor hub detection error on accelerometer sensor-1" on boot. Any idea on how to fix this? Machine was running on Win 8.1 recently wiped and updated to Win 10 ( Error was happening before wipe happened) - Ran Lenovo Update Utility tool updated firmware and bios - Error message still appears - Ran OS updates - Error message still appears  Any other information would be helpful going to look at drivers and see if there is one that needs an update/repair.  Thank you
