!@#$% Alpha Cleaner

Q: !@#$% Alpha Cleaner

Hi,I'm new here so I hope I'm doing this right. For the past month or so my virus protection keeps "finding and blocking" alpha cleaner. I've tried everything to get rid of this <expletive> program to no avail. I think I finally found the problem in my registry. There's a folder there "Legacy alfa claner" or something similar and no matter what I try, it will NOT delete. If someone could help me get rid of this program I'd be forever greatful. The virus protection blocks it at LEAST 100 times a day. Here is my Hijack log. Thanks in advance,SharLogfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 8:21:20 AM, on 3/29/2006Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\mcafee.com\personal firewall\MPfTray.exeC:\Program Files\mcafee.com\antivirus\oasclnt.exeC:\Program Files\mcafee.com\antivirus\mcvsescn.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1141171544\ee\services\sscAntiSpywarePlugin\ver1_10_3_1\AOLSP Scheduler.exeC:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1141171544\ee\services\sscFirewallPlugin\ver1_10_3_1\SSCEvtHdlr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1141171544\ee\aolsoftware.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\alg.exeC:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\ACS\acsd.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1141171544\ee\services\sscFirewallPlugin\ver1_10_3_1\aolavupd.exeC:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\ANTIVI~1\mcshield.exeC:\Program Files\mcafee.com\personal firewall\MPFService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\slserv.exeC:\Program Files\Alcohol Soft\Alcohol 120\StarWind\StarWindService.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\wdfmgr.exeC:\WINDOWS\wanmpsvc.exeC:\Program Files\files we downloaded\Spyware Doctor\sdhelp.exeC:\Program Files\files we downloaded\Spyware Doctor\swdoctor.exec:\program files\common files\aol\1141171544\ee\aolssc.exeC:\WINDOWS\explorer.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\NOTEPAD.EXEC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXEC:\Program Files\FILES WE DOWNLOADED\hijack\HijackThis.exeR1 - Preferred Solution: !@#$% Alpha Cleaner

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Welcome to TSG!!
Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Be aware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Howdy. I just installed and ran Comodo System Cleaner, primarily for the registry cleaner, and now I can't save files off of the internet or install programs (usually). When I try to save pictures, I am told "There are no more files."
When I tried to install a program, the installer said every file path I tried was "The install folder specified is not valid."

What the balls? This clearly has to do with my running of Comodo. I don't even know where to begin. Ideas?

Thanks,

- Ross

Every time I start my computer, Internet Explorer pops up with the "Secure PC Cleaner" website. Shortly thereafter, a "system message!" appears in my notifications toolbar (the bottom corner, by the clock? Did I get the name right?) which takes my browser to "PC Privacy Cleaner." This happens every time I start my computer, and sometimes randomly in the middle of the day. I don't know how to make it stop! I followed the instructions in the Preparation Guide, and my DSS reports are below. I didn't have time for a Kasperksy online scan, but if the DSS reports aren't enough, I can do the Kaspersky scan later. A:Help...can't get rid of Driver Cleaner and Registry cleaner popups

Hi
Quite a bit to clean..Lets start with this first....

But first get this Purityscan uninstaller and run it...
http://www.purityscan.com/uninstall.html

Go to Start > Control Panels > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs if listed:
PuritySCAN By OIN, OIN, OuterInfo or similar.

Reboot and delete this folder if found:
C:\Program Files\PurityScan\
-----------------------------------

Please download Combofix: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
and save to the desktop.

1. Double click on combo.exe & follow the prompts.
2. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
3. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Notes:
* Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang.

I have used Ccleaner and REVO to clean and maintain my Windows environment.

So I am looking for your thoughts and comments as to what you recommend for cleaning Windows and Windows registry. And if you could add why I would really appreciate it. I feel that registry health is key to Windows functions. I chose Ccleaner and REVO after asking a similar question over four years ago. Thanks in advance. Stu

A:Windows cleaner, registry cleaner recomendations PLEASE!

As is commonly known, Windows tweakers, cleaners and registry cleaners are useless. There's no need to use any of them. Windows is totally capable of taking care of its registry by itself.

This extract from How To Geek:

In reality, registry entries aren?t a drag on your computer?s performance. The registry is a massive database containing hundreds of thousands of entries and individual registry entries are fairly tiny. Even removing a few thousand entries won?t make an appreciable dent in the size of your registry. Now, if our computers only had a tiny amount of memory or an extremely slow hard disk, there could be some value to shrinking the registry a bit. But this will be completely unnoticeable on computers in use today. We don?t live in the days of Windows 95 anymore. The Windows registry has also become more robust as Windows itself evolved from Windows 95 to Windows 7 and 8.

Windows just isn?t getting confused and slowing down because you have a folder (known as a ?key? in registry parlance) dedicated to an uninstalled program in your registry. It also isn?t getting confused because certain entries point to an outdated program.

No legitimate benchmarks showing a performance increase as a result of a registry cleaner have ever been released. If a registry cleaner offered boosted performance, we would have some benchmarks by now. It?s anecdotal evidence, but the majority of our readers didn?t find that registry cleaners helped improve their perf... Read more

I hope this is the right forum to post this problem.  It was suggested that I use the cleaner called Temporary File Cleaner or TFC during routine clean up processes by a forum moderator.  However, the last two times I started it, the process caused a Windows error.  I don't have an error number or message to write here as there was none.  My system just got very unresponsive and the TFC program itself started rocking or moving on the screen.  At some point there was a very quick message saying Windows needed close.  I tried to shut the program down, but it wouldn't respond.  Some files were deleted in the very brief cleaning process.  It seems my PC just doesn't like this cleaner.  The version is 3.1.9.0 by Old Timer Tools.  I'm running Windows 7.  I'm thinking I need to uninstall this program and reinstall it if there's a later version.  But maybe you have another file cleaner that my PC might like better.  I'd sure appreciate your thoughts.

A:The cleaner, Temporary File Cleaner

Here is a link to a well regarded, free temporary file cleaning program.

Is anyone familiar with this? If so, after scanning the reg. are you suppose to delete everything it finds?

A:easy cleaner registry cleaner

Q4. EasyCleaner's parts like registry cleaning- and unnecessary files-part list even thousands of unnecessary files/entries, are they save to delete?
A4. Usually yes, I recommend you to delete files first to the recycle bin (see Options), restart your computer and see if everything works fine then empty the recycle bin. In registry cleaning I haven't heard a single case where the computer has started to work strangely, but it is better be sure. EasyCleaner creates an undo-file from the entries deleted.

Windows' registry stores huge amount of data about system, programs, settings etc. Registry can be found from every Windows except from 3.xx (or earlier), Windows NT/2000/XP's and 95/98/ME's registries have only slight differences, EasyCleaner can read both of them.

When you execute a program it is most likely to save it's settings to the registry, then registry's size increases and reading from it gets slower. If you delete or uninstall a program it's saved settings might not disappear from the registry so the registry fills up with unnecessary data, registry will become "dirty". Dirty registry slows the computer down quite much.

EasyCleaner searches registry for entries that point to a non-existing directory or file. When you delete those unnecessary entries registry's size decreases and reading from it gets faster!

On every succesful startup Windows takes backup from your registry, you can do this by yourself by copy... Read more

Win 10 til July I did way to much testing, trial and error on various tools, apps, utilities, etc. I'm afraid of most website reviews because of malware and false positive reviews because of affiliation. Is there something else great like CCleaner that has both disk cleaning and registry cleaning built in for free. The problem I saw was how off other apps were. They basically have the same options but the amount of space to be cleared was way off from one another. I figured some of these listings were fake.

I'm not against ccleaner but I've been using it for years and years. If there is another safe option I want to try it. I did try Wise Cleaner about 2 weeks ago before I went to Anniversary but I read a bad review on their Wise 365 that basically put the company on blast with how fake everything it showed was. FYI I do use the built in disk cleanup.

A:What disk cleaner/registry cleaner are you using

I use CCleaner with WiseCare as a combo for years, never had any problems. I run disc cleaner as well sometimes.
I have tried literally every known free cleaner out there and I have never found anything better or more reliable.
For example Baidu looks and feels great, but give bad suggestions, Kaspersky or Privazer are specific cleaners.

I was able to run Malwarebytes and now it doesn't find any problems, but the problem is still there. Most programs stop working and I get a mesage about them. Running combofix in safe mode works, but I get a bsod (blue screen of death) about 20% into it. I hope this is a common problem and I am just an idiot. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

For some reason, after choosing a png, psd or tga that has the alpha channel enabled after saving, it doesn't appear once the texture is chosen when applying it on a surface in the material editor.

I can preview the textures in programs like windows fax/photo viewer and it shows as transparent, but is either white or grey fill in when placed in max.

Is there something else I must do to make it show through? In the viewer it would show as a mostly white texture, instead of the metal grate it's supposed to be.

I have a small wireless network and i set encryption to WPA instead of WEP for tighter security but I kept having problems with a couple of the pc's not going online and at other times all 4 didn't find each other. I tried WEP but it's not as safe as WPA and it didn't work well either. I heard of a product called Alpha Shield. I checked it out and bought it. Now, it's a firewall, blocks all 3rd party pop-ups, makes your pc invisible to hackers, stops MS Blast, My Doom and similar worms and has 100% guaranteed security. With everything it does, isn't my wireless network as safe as it would be if I had WEP or WPA encryption working?
Thanks,Jim

A:Alpha Shield

No. Alphashield is simply protecting the PC's, not the wireless network itself. Without WEP/WPA, anyone can get on your wireless network and connect to the internet through your router. ie. you're providing essentially free internet access to anyone within about 100 feet of your house.

If you don't care, then you're fine with just using that product.

FWIW, I don't think the problem you were experiencing was a WPA/WEP problem. I'd guess it may have been a shared key problem, or some other firewall (XP's built in firewall?) problem.

I thought that I would post as I have seen some software posts for invisible Web Surfing and I wondered what Alpha shield really does?

We use it at work at the request of management. We are XP, OS sp2 and are hi speed and have a router each and the Alpha Shield. The large company that looks after our computers did a test and it showed the Ports all in stealth and so I wondered under what concept this devise works and whether it is really good to use as they have given me one along with a router to use at home as I do take work home and do it on my notebook.

I really would appreciate comments. I should say that we have other security programs and have never had problems with our work computers, malware, viruses or other nasties!

I hope to hear from someone regarding this inquiry, thankyou.

Hi and welcome to TSG, there are some fairly expensive commercial programs that will do the conversion as well as some free or inexpensive ones that require a lot more user interaction to get good results. A search through some older posts in our "Digital Photography & Imaging" forum will find discussions on both types.

Due to copyright issues, this web site no longer permits members converting graphics files to DST files for other members.

A:FireFox 3.7 Alpha

It's looking good so far, but they really need to remove the title bar for it to be on par w/ Chrome. Tabs on top AND flush w/ top of screen when maximized is what makes the feature great in Chrome (allows less precise clicking, if you're like me & don't switch tabs using key shortcuts).

Has anyone ran this yet?

I haven't ran it on Windows yet, but I did run it on my Powerbook G4, I'm very impressed with it. Really the only differences between 9.6 and 10a is the rendering engine, but it seems to be significantly faster. I used to use Opera as my primary browser for any OS, and have since about 2000, but a few months ago I dropped Opera for Safari on my mac because Opera was just too slow and giving me a pinwheel at times I didn't think it should.

I did delete every bit of Opera 9 before installing Opera 10, so some of my speed increase maybe attributed to a fresh set of settings/preferences...

Was just wondering if anyone else has given Opera 10 a shot yet and what they think.

You can get it here: http://www.opera.com/browser/next/
They are of course clamining its much faster ect. And it does pass the Acid 3 test, which is somewhat cool.

I have just installed XP replacing Win 2k.
I like to have my favorites in my order and not alphabetically. I drag and drop to that order, but, every time I shut down and boot up, the software rearranges the favorites to alpha order.

How can I stop this?

Sorry, I borrowed shelley's thread title - because I have a similar problem, but different.

When I open any folder the contents are in reverse alphabetical order. I can "Arrange Icons by Name..." and get them in correct order until I restart the computer, then they revert back to reverse order.
I have done this arrange deal thru Control Panel's Folder Options and applied to all folders, and have gone thru every individual folder seperately - only to have all changes reversed when I boot up.

As an added bonus Windows will not remember my preference in window sizing, either. I like "medium" windows when I have a lot of them open, but XP insists on maximizing them (again, this is after I have resized everything - then upon a fresh bootup everything I open goes full screen).

Now, even if I arrange every folder in correct order, if I use a program that bring up a windows directory choice, that also is bass-ackwards.

Example: trying to "Save As.." from any program may result in a window such as this:

<img src= "http://forums.techguy.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=833926 ">

Reverse alpha should be evident.

Anyway, I thought there might be a registry key change that might solve this, I am comfortable with regedits ( shudder) as long as I have proper instructions

Hey everyone,

Just a real simple question. Does anyone have or know where i can download Divx Player 2.0 Alpha from?

I know there are better versions available, but i need this one...

Matt.

A:Anyone got Divx Player 2.0 Alpha??

matt choules,

I just ran a number of Google searches to see what I could turn up - there were numerous links which when opened were to Divx 2.6, or which merely opened the gateway to popup heaven

In the event nobody here can offer you a working link you might try these two sites :

http://www.mpegx.com - If need be check their extensive 'Links'.

Alternatively try here :

http://www.dvdrhelp.com

They offer the latest files for download - however click on Forums .. you might find someone who has the file you need and can get it to you.
