Confused by HDMI ports

Q: Confused by HDMI ports

My 750-247c has THREE (3) HDMI ports. I've included a picture. It has one in line with the DVI and Displayport (which I've label 1 and have a cable plugged in already), and two lower on the chasis, which came with removable, black plastic plugs in them. (Labeled 2 and 3.) In all the documentation for the machine, including that on HP's website, it says it has only two HDMI ports, but gives no indication what the difference might be. I would be grateful if someone could tell me for sure what each of these three HDMI ports are for and whether the capabiliy differs among them. Is one connected to the graphics card and the others not, or vice-versa? See picture. Thanks! Michael

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is what I think is going on: The Intel processor has a video graphic card built-in, and these two HDMI is what you will use if no video card is installed. But, since there is a video card installed with HDMI, DVI and PD ports, HP decided to plug those little black plastic thing there. I am sure if you pull the video card out of the computer, and plug your HDMI cable on any of those two ports, you will see video. By doing so, I think the limitations are clearly understandable.

How would you connect these drives?

Motherboard Asus P8Z68-V Pro

Intel Z68 Express Chipset
2 X SATA 6.0Gb/s ports
4 X SATA 3.0GB/s ports

Marvell PCIe SATA 6.0Gb/s controller
2 X SATA 6.0Gb/s ports

J Micron JMB362 SATA controller
1 X eSATA 3.0Gb/s port

1 SSD to hold the operating system and some programs
2 HD SATA 6.0Gb/s in a raid 1 configuration
1 HD SATA 3.0Gb/s to hold some other data

I know the SSD should go in a 6.0Gb/s port, but what are the differences in the Intel and Marvell ports? Should the SSD go in the Intel and the HDs in the Marvell?

Help!

A:Confused about SATA ports

If it were me doing the build, I would connect both the ssd and hard drives to the intel controller. Both marvell and j micron are not noted as being quality sata controllers.

Remember no mech hard drive even comes close to sata1 speeds. It is irrelevant whether the mech hard drive is sata2 or 3; it is never going to give you more than 100mps or so. If you really must use the marvell pci controller, then put the 2 drives you are going to raid on there. Again I would not do this however if you must use raid, then use the controller card.

FWIW if you must use raid, then I would highly recommend a quality card ie promise or highpoint. A quality raid controller starts at $150 or so and goes up from there. There is a reason why they cost so much; performance and reliability.

I have an interesting problem. For reasons only known to God, my Ethernet port simply quit working. Before going to work in the morning, it worked fine. I turned off the PC. When I returned home, I turned on the PC and, to my surprise. I had no internet connection, not even local access. I did all the usual stuff and nothing worked. I have another PC using Vista Ultimate 32, and it did not have a problem. So, I connected a TrendNet USB Ethernet Adapter and VIOLA, I have an internet connection. Now, I’m confused as to why the onboard Ethernet port refuses to reset. Vista does not afford me the ability to literally re-assign the card any parameters as they are automatically re-set this confusing mix of private settings. (see ipconfig /all below).

I am currently doing research to figure out what my Laptop can do to support 120Hz at 1080p on an Asus VG248QE 24-Inch LED-Lit Monitor monitor. After doing some research, I've found that HDMI 1.4b, along with Display Port and DVI-D can all support 120Hz at 1080p, and with a DVI-D to HDMI 1.4b adapter, I should be able to get this.

I don't know however, what kind of HDMI port my PC has (or if they're all the same)? How can I find out whether or not the HDMI port on my laptop will support HDMI 1.4b to get the 120Hz I desire? I am currently using a customized Toshiba Qosmio X70-A.

Is it possible to plug lets say a ps3 to the 9800GT thru HDMI and HDMI from the Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H port to your Mitsubishi 60inch DLP HDTV? Possibly using some software to record the video as well? That would be super. Thanks.

A:Is there any possibility of using two hdmi ports from my pc

Using an addon card will almost always disable the onboard gpu. You could simply purchase a video card that has two HDMI ports. Or you could simply use the DVI port. The only difference between the HDMI port and the DVI port is that the HDMI port also supports audio. The video signal (quality) is the same as they are both a digital signal.

Over the past few years I've had most all of my  M4600  or other M series HDMI port refuse to put out a signal.  I've had several company visitors bring their Dell laptops in and if they are M series laptops will not communicate with our overhead projectors via HDMI. The projector simply says NO SIGNAL.  Yet on the same projector when I connect my E5450 it will project just fine.  This happens when using a TV using HDMI as well.
In all cases it SEES the projector or TV screen as a second monitor.  I've popped open the PROJECT app and told it to MIRROR the screens.  I can see the monitor add itself to DEVICE MANAGER when plugging in the HDMI cable and see it leave when unplugging it. This happens with Windows 7 and Windows 10.
I had a an old M4600's connected it to my TV.  It worked for months on Windows 10 then suddenly would no longer put out a signal over HDMI.  Again, I can see the TV by correct name in Device Manager when it's plugged in, I tell it to MIRROR or even EXTEND the desktop and nothing happens but NO SIGNAL on the TV. I pulled out an even older M4600 one that had been offline for about a year and it worked until MS did updates.  I went through the Dell updates and Windows updates and will no longer work - NO SIGNAL.
I put a brand new fresh Windows 10 image on the first laptop (that I had been using for months) and it no longer works - with a brand new image from MS.  I tried updat... Read more

A:VGA and HDMI Ports Not Working

Assuming the built in dispaly is working OK, then it does not make sense for a driver issue.  By stating "It appears the VGA and HDMI ports are not working" just what is happening when an external monitor or display is connected?  Are you looking in the right place to enable the second screen?Right click on a empty spot on the desktop and then pick "Screen resolution"  It should show the normal display as #1.  Click on "Detect", it should then show the extra display.  Click on the "new" display to set it up.

My video card has only one hdmi port, and the other 3 are just DisplayPorts not hdmi. The screen and cable work fine as when I plug it into this it works. The problem is I need another port to plug my other display into.Is their any reason why these 2 extra hdmi ports are not working? The has a little plastic protector cap plugged into them. Are they just optional extensions that I'd have to get installed, Or am I missing some drivers? Thanks for any help,Alex

Is this a drivers or config issue?

I have a win7 x64 computer with a geforce 260, dual dvi output. i got one hooked up to my computer monitor using dvi. and the secondary using dvi- to hdmi adaper and the hdmi cable hooked into my samsung 46" (model: LE46B530 with software version: 2009/10/07_002004). oh and i have tried with 2 different hdmi cables btw.

my samsung lcd tv shows 1920x1080p as does my computer monitor. I haven't screwed with any display settings in windows and DPI is default, as is the resolution the same on both. using dvi to vga adapter and hooked up to my tv vga port it displays everything perfectly. I have the latest nvidia drivers.

Should i just buy a new GFX hard with hdmi ports or is this mess fixable? I'm rather dissapointed since i poured in a pretty penny into this little debocle.

i added 2 pictures one of tv and the other of my computer, view settings are cloned so it shows the same on both, the tv has kind-of a "ghost picture", you see the weird white glow the letters have?

A:Buy a new GFX hard with hdmi ports or is this mess fixable?

Confused. As you saying it works one way and not the other?

If so, (and assuming that the HDMI is the one having the issue) have you verified the resolution showing when using the HDMI and have you figured out if the DVI adapter you bought is actually the correct one for the video card (IOW _ are you using a 3rd party DVI to HDMI or the one that came with the card)?

I have an HP Pavilion 550-154na desktop connected to my Dell monitor by HDMI cable from the graphics card, it works fine. But I'd like to connect a second monitor (or projector). The graphics card only has one HDMI port, but the back of the machine has two HDMI ports (covered with black caps), which presumably come off the motherboard. I tried plugging my monitor into one of these ports but the screen stayed blank. What are my options? Is it possible to get output from these ports or do I need to use a splitter or something?

A:Should my motherboard HDMI output ports work?

Hi: When your model has a discrete (add-on) video card, the onboard graphics is automatically disabled. Look under the Integrated Graphics specs. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-550-100-Desktop-PC-series/8499648/model/9242957/docu... You can get output from those ports if you remove the graphics card. If you leave the graphics card in, you can either hook up a DVI cable from the DVI out port on the graphics card to the DVI input of your monitor.  I would think most monitors have multiple inputs. If your other monitor only has a HDMI input, get a DVI to HDMI cable. You will not get audio from a DVI port.

Hi,

I have a 6 month old Z30-A Portege i7 laptop (PT243A-0HW02X) running Windows 7 64bit, and the 13.3" 1920x1080 internal display screen is not working - nothing is displayed on the screen.

However I can connect an external monitor via the RGB cable port or to the HDMI port and still use the laptop that way.

I have tried various Function F5 Output toggles choosing Clone, External, Extend, Switch Display, but nothing works to get output back again to the laptop display screen.

On the External option I see a laptop icon in grey colour with a X on the screen, and a '1' on the other display icon, and a window appears for 'Toshiba Flash Cards' with red x error message " Failed to initialize Output Configuration dialog!".

There is no further help available to tell me what the problem is.
When I choose the Function F5 Output Configuration option, the 'Internal' line is greyed out, so I can't select it.

Has anyone else had this issue?
Could a BIOS update help to tell me if there is a hardware issue?
There is nothing about the display error in the Windows event viewer.

Thanks.

A:No display on Portege Z30-A screen but HDMI / RGB ports work

I have a similar problem.

When I boot up, I see the Windows 7 logo, but then everything goes black after that.

I can start the computer in safe mode and the laptop screen works no problem. In Safe Mode I can even switch to 1920x1080 resolution. So the video hardware + drivers are working, just not in normal Windows mode.

Tried reinstalling video drivers but no luck.

I also wiped the computer and reinstalled Windows 7 + video drivers and still no luck...

It started happening literally out of the blue... after six months, like yourself.

I have a Z30t-A-123.

Does anybody from Toshiba respond here or are we left to our own devices?

A:Inspiron 15 7569 loses sound when USB and HDMI ports are used

The HDMI ports are a sound output device.  If you have something plugged in which can produce sound you should hear it there.
Try opening the Playback devices window from the speaker icon on the taskbar.  You should see the HDMI listed and showing sound levels if actual sound is playing.  If you don't, look for any other device which may be showing changes in sound levels.  You may have to disable one type if it is getting your sound.

Hi there,
I've got an OptiPlex 3040 micro running Windows 10 64bit (came installed on the machine) and two monitors (Dell U2415, came as a pair) using extended display. One monitor has an HDMI-HDMI cable going into the computer's HDMI port, the other has a DisplayPort-DisplayPort cable going into the computer's DisplayPort port. (There is no VGA port installed on this machine)
Both monitors are on the correct setting for detecting what cable is plugged into them. Whichever monitor the DisplayPort cable is plugged into cuts out to a black screen with nothing on it multiple times an hour during normal computing (mostly email and web browsing). Not a steady flicker, just randomly goes black and randomly comes back on.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the monitors, checked all the settings, ran the troubleshooter (no issues found), updated my graphics card driver (it was already the latest version), and nothing seems to be wrong there.
When I swapped the HDMI and DP cables to see if it was a cable issue or the physical monitor, the monitor that then had the DP cable plugged into it started to have the problem, whereas the other monitor (now plugged in via HDMI) had no problems. Originally there was a Mini DP-DP cable connecting one of the monitors and I thought maybe that was the issue, so I replaced it with a brand new DP-DP cable the other day. Still having issues with whichever monitor is connected via DP.

This does not sound like a hardware failure. Did you check/test all of the Windows 10 power management options? Specifically the PCI Express- Link State Power Management setting? Or just set the Windows 10 power management to High performance and retest. Also, if the U2415s USB upstream cables are connected to the computer, be sure to disable the USB selective suspend setting.

This gives me two HDMI. This is what I have connected: to the HDMI of the laptop a Dell P2217H screen.to USB-C the Asus MB16AC screento USB-C  the Lenovo Powered USB-C Travel Hub HDMII can get those 3 monitors working together: Laptop monitorUSB-C Asus MB16AC screenUSB-C HDMI OR USB-C Lenovo Powered USB-C Travel Hub HDMII am not able to use both HDMI and the USB-C together but if I unplug the USB-C screen, I am now able to use two HDMI signal together.  I am on Linux dka 4.19.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.67-2+deb10u1 (2019-09-20) x86_64 GNU/Linux How can I get two HDMI + USB-C monitors working at the same time? My bet is that this laptop does not support 2 HDMI monitor + 1 USB-C Monitor. I haven't tried on windows but is that even working on Windows?I have another USB3 screen Asus MB168B+. It uses DisplayLink driver, it does not have official support for Debian but theoretically, could it work as an extra screen considering I can't use (yet) two HDMI + 1 USB-C screen together.

I have a Lenovo x240 with a Core i7-4600U using Intel HD Graphics 4400 and I am attaching a Monoprice MST Hub Mini Displayport to 2 HDMI adapter to the mini display port on the x240. To this I have 15' HDMI cables attached. These are attached to 3.5" HDMI LCD screens on both ports.  I am unable to drive both monitors simultaneously, either in extending mode, or mirror/cloned mode. I have tried everything; every combination of plugging and unplugging; booting with various states of connection to the displays. Nothing is creating two attached screens both working simultaneously - in any fashion (cloned/extended). I have tried updating my graphics drivers and bios. I am not sure what the problem is. The product I am using to split the mDP is a MST Hub:https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=21975 I am looking at the refresh rate criterion, and I am unsure how to allow windows 10 to provide those refresh rates and resolutions for my monitors. (Editing in the display settings -> custom resolution, doesn't affect anything) Please advise.   ################################## ComputerLENOVO 20AL009CUSOperating SystemMicrosoft Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)ProcessorIntel® Core? i7-4600U CPU @ 2.10GHzGraphicsIntel® HD Graphics FamilyAudioRealtek High Definition AudioIntel® Display AudioNetworking and I/OIntel® Ethernet Connection I218-LMIntel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260Update availablePrivate Internet Access Network AdapterNpcap Loopb... OK, My Grandmothers house was hit by electricity a couple of weeks ago. It blew out her phones and her computer will not turn on. I have not tried turning the computer on myself this is just what I was told. The strange thing to me is the computer was plugged into a surge protected with the monitor and other things. The monitor still works the surge protector still works and everything else that was plugged into the surge protector still works. The only thing that does not work is the computer. Isn't that strange? The electricity would have blown out anything pluged into the surge protected and would have tried the surge protector? RIGHT? Now I don't know if the whole computer will no longer work. Does it sound like it could just be the power supply? How does a computer act after getting hit by electricity? This computer will not do anything! You push the power button and nothing happens. Does anyone have any ideas? Is the computer fried? Is there anyway to fix it? Thanks for the help...

I am considering buying an HDMI splitter to get around a problem I now have when streaming music only from the Internet. Currently I have about a 15 ft. cable running from the HDMI output on my computer to my Samsung TV. With this setup everything works fine. I can watch Youtube videos or Netflix movies. The thing that I don't like is that if I want to just stream music for several hours, I have to leave the TV on since the audio connection from the TV to my receiver is not a pass thru. It is only live when the TV is on. I am wondering if I can use an HDMI splitter to solve this problem. What I plan to do is to connect the computer HDMI output to the input on the splitter. Then use one of the splitter's outputs to go to the Samsung TV and the other one to go to my receiver via an HDMI-to-2 Channel Stereo Y-adapter. Just wondering if the connection to the non-HDMI device via the Y-adapter will upset the functioning of the splitter. What about the the EDID handshaking and HDCP signal that HDMI sources and displays need in order to function?

Hey all so I have forwarded some ports on my router with Airport Utility (NAT port forwarding), but using cmd netstat -n the ports I forwarded aren't listed and using online port checkers confirms they are closed. I added exceptions to my firewall (even though it is off), and windows defender is off, and Avast's shields are all off. I honestly have no idea how to open the ports up and haven't found a way to do this using Windows 8 (not pro).

Anybody have any ideas? It seems like Windows 8 is blocking these ports from opening for some reason. There doesn't seem to be an override function in cmd to open them, either.

In case you're wondering why I need the ports open, I'm trying to resolve a "request timeout" error when pinging somebody on Hamachi - so I'm trying to open the main ports Hamachi uses (I just want to play Terraria, man).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Ports closed; router forwarded ports, firewalls disabled?

Temporarily add your PC IP into the DMZ and try again , see if the internal/external tests then notice the ports open , this will test if it's a router or PC issue....

Don't forget to take it out of the DMZ after testing...

My modem-router is in bridged mode (everything is disabled except internet), i have disabled windows firewall i have taken my firewall offline (until this issue is resolved) but still no one can access my server (they can't even join a game if i create a server)

if i go to port checker it says connection refused on all ports except port 80? how do i force open the ports?

i called my ISP and they say they should be open and there not blocking any ports.

I have a static ip address, 24Mbit up 2.5Mbit down.

when i run my filesharing program (for sharing files between my and my clients) and they try to download a file from me it says it will take (99years, 99days, 99 hours) now i don't really have that long to wait

edit: and yes my network properties are configured manually (and not on auto detect) i have no problem accessing the internet myself

A:Opening ports, i have the firewall disabled but ports are still blocked

It would be better to open the ports in the running firewall than to turn it off. Firewalls load drivers, running or not. Many firewalls block everything by default when they are turned off so that the machine is protected during boot.

You may need to uninstall some firewalls to get them to open all ports.

This is a brand new custom built PC for web browsing for a motel lobby.

Win7 Home Premium
AMD A4-3300 Llano
MSI A55M-P33 FM1
Rosewill FBM-02 MicroATX Mini Tower

Running latest BIOS and latest drivers downloaded directly from manufacturer's website.

I tried switching between all 3 internal headers and none of them would detect the flash drive.

If I plug the drive in the rear ports it detects right away leading me to suspect the case's ports might be defective but I don't have another USB 2.0 card lying around to confirm.

Based on this info does it seem likely that the front ports themselves are faulty?

A:Front USB ports not working, but rear USB ports work…

You might check to see if the case end of the USB cables are properly plugged into the front panel holding the headers. Some board need more than one brand of USB drivers, Renesas, NEC, etc.

I've had my laptop connected to a TV through HDMI for years and it suddenly stopped working. The HDMI output is no longer listed as a playback device. It now shows spdif digital out via HP dock. The picture is fine but there is no sound. Also when you go to the playback settings screen the green lights are jumping next to the spdif which is set as default but there is no sound. I have tried everything if you do a Google search on this topic it seems like it is a common problem but there is no specific solution. I believe the HDMI playback device disappeared after the last Windows 10 update. The HDMI is not under hidden devices but it is listed under audio in the control panel.
